Opinions de Le French Diner New York
Visited Mr. Purple and really enjoyed the experience. The rooftop has amazing views of the city and a cool outdoor space that includes a swimming pool, which adds to the whole vibe. The atmosphere feels lively without being overwhelming. I was also pleasantly surprised that the drinks weren’t super expensive, and they actually tasted great. Definitely a nice spot to hang out, relax, and take in the skyline. Would recommend visiting during the summer to enjoy outdoor space!
Mr. Purple is a very nice and spacious rooftop restaurant and bar. I love the fact that they have a pool which was nice. My friend and I enjoyed ourselves at an event we attended here. I would definitely come back again.
Good music, good vibes, good views I like to go here every Saturday with my friends, My favorite place and The bartender here David F he so nice, lovely and makes delicious drinks. He's also very friendly and easy to talk to.
Perched atop the Hotel Indigo on the Lower East Side, Mr. Purple stands as one of New York City’s most stylish rooftop bars and nightlife destinations. The design is sleek and industrial-chic, with reclaimed wood, metal finishes, and loft-inspired décor that perfectly complements its downtown edge. Guests are immediately drawn to the sweeping skyline views, which stretch from Midtown’s iconic towers to the bridges over the East River, making it a quintessential spot for sunset cocktails. The venue features both intimate terraces and a lively main space, including a poolside deck that elevates its exclusivity. Music is curated through dynamic DJ sets, striking a balance between lounge sophistication and high-energy rhythms as the night progresses. Cocktails are crafted with precision, with signatures such as the bottled Moscow Mule and the tequila-based Mr. Purple being consistent favorites.
Went here for their new brunch experience last weekend and had a great time. Fun rooftop party vibes and a classic brunch menu Absolutely must get the Bagel with Lox featuring that beautiful tompkins square bagel and locally sourced smoked salmon. They have all the brunch cocktails or check out their perfect espresso martini. Great for a date or group brunch
I had an amazing experience dining here thanks to yogi! From the moment we were seated, he made us feel welcome and taken care of. His attentiveness, warm personality, and knowledge of the menu really stood out. Every recommendation he gave was spot-on, and he managed to balance professionalism with a genuine friendliness that made the evening even more enjoyable. Service like hers elevates the whole dining experience. You can tell he truly cares about his guests and takes pride in what he does. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to friends thanks to the outstanding service he provided!
ricky created an amazing experience for us when we visited this spot! it’s a gorgeous rooftop bar with comfortable seating, great views, good vibes, and stellar service (thanks to ricky). she made me the best lychee martini i’ve ever had and was happy to chat with us when we were at the bar. watching her work was amazing: i could see there were some regulars that had come back because she greeted them all by name, and she made new guests feel welcome. she was friendly, efficient, creative, and just simply knew what she was doing. it was a pleasure to visit with ricky and i’ll definitely be back whenever i’m back in town, hopefully on a night she’s working!
Very nice rooftop bar with sweeping views of the city. They have a great selection of beer, well drinks, and cocktails. Wonderful staff. I had such a fantastic experience with Ricky. From the moment I sat down, she made me feel welcome and taken care of. Her drink recommendations were spot‑on, the cocktails she made were awesome (make sure you try the lychee tini), and you could tell she's a pro. What stood out most was her personality — friendly, attentive, and effortlessly professional. Even when the bar got busy, she never missed a beat and made sure I was having a great time. It’s rare to find someone who can mix great drinks and create such a comfortable, enjoyable atmosphere. If you’re visiting Mr. Purple, do yourself a favor and grab a seat at the bar. Ricky is a true gem and made the night unforgettable.
Mr. Purple is such a vibe. The views are incredible, the drinks are beautifully made, and the whole atmosphere feels like the perfect mix of stylish and chill. it just feels special without being stuffy. Huge shoutout to our server, Courtnee, who made the experience even better. She was attentive and genuinely fun — the kind of service that turns a great night into a memorable one. She had perfect recommendations and checked in just the right amount.
I was first introduced to Mr Purple by a friend visiting from LA but I didn’t accept the offer. I immediately regretted it when he sent photos of the view and shared his experience. Since then, I wanted to visit but didn’t want to go there alone.. Then my friends and I heard about the matinee disco party and we finally planned a night out there. Would you believe I ended up there alone because my friends went to another spot? I decided I was not leaving because the staff were very nice to me especially Ricky!!!!, and the drinks were amazing! They all ended up coming to Mr Purple that night… after they realized I was having more fun… and we’ve been there a second time since. If you ever feel like having a night out with friends.. or by yourself in a place where you are safe and welcomed with great service ..I highly recommend Mr Purple!! Ask for Ricky! She makes the best cocktails especially French 75!!
We had an absolutely amazing experience at Mr. Purple in New York. The rooftop views were unlike anything else, truly breathtaking. I also want to give a hugh shoutout to our wonderful server Courtnee. Thank you, Courtnee, for making our first visit so special and for recommending The Formula for our meal. The steak was cooked to perfection and literally melted in my mouth. Incredible food, outstanding service, and all delivered with a warm, genuine smile. I'm so happy we had such an unforgettable dining experience-thank you, Courtnee!
came in today for a drink with a girlfriend and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Wasn’t too busy or loud around 6pm. Drinks were good, and the views from the rooftop are beautiful! We enjoyed a special where you get a steak, fries and martini for $35 that our server Alma recommended and it was great. Will come again
I had the absolute best experience at Mr. Purple the other night! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was perfect. What really made my night, though, was the incredible service. My server, Elma, was beyond amazing. She knew the menu inside out and gave spot-on recommendations for drinks. Between the great vibes, top-tier drinks, and exceptional service, it will become my new go-to spot. If you go (and you should!), definitely ask for Elma, you’ll be in great hands!
I’ve been coming to Mr. Purple for months, and honestly, the place wouldn’t feel the same without Ricky. She’s not just an incredible bartender, she’s the reason the night hits differently. Ricky has this rare way of making you feel instantly welcome, remembered, and taken care of. Your drink is always perfect, the service never feels forced, and the energy she brings behind the bar is unmatched. You can tell she genuinely cares, and that kind of service is rare. The views are stunning, the vibe is iconic, but Ricky is the magic. She turns a great night into an unforgettable one. Once you’ve been served by her, you get it.Thank you Mr. Purple for having someone like Ricky behind the bar. She is truly one of a kind and the reason this place feels so special. Her energy, care, and attention to detail make every visit memorable. Places are made great by people like her, and you’re lucky to have her.
Came here on a weekday while visiting NYC was a bit quiet but Elma was my server and made my experience so amazing. Not only was she super personable but recommended some amazing drinks, she even invited me back for the summer when the rooftop is open. I ended up staying longer than expected ! Will definitely be back and bring some friends. Views were beautiful as well.
Horrible. DONT come here. Just kidding... I love it but it is so busy. You guys should go to other places and leave this one for me. I will sit me, my wine, owner Pear, and Beef TarTar! There is a waiter called Carl and he is so weird, but everyone and everything else - good vibes.
Came in and was told to put my number down. Had a drink across the street. They called! I came back and had the seared cabbage which was wonderful! Then I had the Hanger steak in a red wine sauce with gratin dauphinois: Outstanding!!! The marriage of the steak, the sauce, and the cheesy buttery potatoes was exquisite! Couldn't get enough! To finish I got the Cherries in cream: salted cherries in a beautiful creamy base! All with a lovely Bordeaux by the glass! Forget Balthazar and come here!
This place completely changed my opinion during one meal. The place works with modest dimensions while staying neat and inviting with city character. The plates come out looking picture-perfect. The team demonstrates adequate friendliness and clear helpfulness. I enjoy this place genuinely.
Le French Diner is one of those rare hidden gems that captures everything you love about dining in New York — cozy atmosphere, impeccable food, and genuine charm. This tiny bistro brings Paris to Manhattan with every dish. The menu is concise but perfectly executed. The staff are warm and unpretentious, and the intimate space (barely more than a handful of tables and bar seats) makes every meal feel special and personal. Whether you’re stopping in for a glass of wine and a bite or a full dinner, Le French Diner never disappoints. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A true NYC treasure for lovers of great French food and authentic hospitality.
This is a tiny restaurant with a tiny kitchen that serves amazing food. The menu is selective and everything is well executed and tastes great. The service is friendly and attentive. Once you get in, you’re not rushed, just a great cozy dining experience. We had a few glasses of wine. And the staff always pour a little first for us to try and make sure we like it before he did the full pour. For food, we ordered octopus, buckwheat crepes, scallops, skirt steak. Everything was delicious. We especially love our steak. It was very flavorful and perfectly cooked and came with potato au gratin. Over all a very fun and pleasant dinner.
I've been wanting to try a french restaurant for a long time. I just loved the vibe. It's like experiencing a little piece of Paris in Manhattan New York. It's not a big space at all, but I didn't mind, it's part of the experience. I had the grilled Octopus and my husband had the steak. It's was all very delicious. Next time I will definitely be trying a new dish. I totally recommend coming to this little cozy french restaurant. It was a great experience.
Very interesting vibe. Get online at least 1 hour before they open or you won't get in. Maybe 18 seats. But well worth the wait and the very cramped atmosphere. The food was phenomenal. Delicious takes on French standards. Casual dress, be foodie. Surprisingly well organized for such a tiny location. And very charming staff. It's like going to your Friend's studio apartment for dinner with a small bunch of people you meet while waiting for him to get home, but your friend is an absolutely excellent chef so you are all excited with anticipation
Awesome service and meal. Octopus was so simple - as close to perfect as I’ve had in a long time. I could eat the ouef mayo everyday. The escargot was well prepared but more salty than I have usually experienced. I’m still thinking about the chilled Grenache by the glass - sipping that alone at the bar on a rainy Sunday evening almost made it feel like I was in a Parisian hole in the wall. Go for the vibes. Go alone - it’s verrrry small.
Do not let the exterior fool you. Yes they could clean and wash their sign and make the entry more inviting-but this is part of their appeal. Very small restaurant-bar seating plus 4 tables. I choose to sit at the bar. The barkeep was friendly and knowledgeable of all menus. Started with the cheese board. Very very delicious. The chickpea crepe was delicious as was the octopus. I had ordered the steak and it was very good (loved the mushrooms) but the star of the night for me was the pork chop. The pork chop was cooked to perfection and the side of spicy mustard was the best I have had and worked well with the chop. Seriously-do yourself a favor and order the pork chop.
It's a big bar with dancing space on the 15th floor. I was there to dance and see the rooftop, it was some free special that night. But that night it was raining so the rooftop was closed. I just saw vague skyline through the glass walls. Overall it was nice to dance, not crowded.
Mr. Purple was a lot of fun! The rooftop view of the city was immaculate, and they had a great selection of music as well. The drinks were solid, and I enjoyed the overall vibe of Mr. Purple as a whole. Would recommend!
The food was good! But I was not a fan of the drinks. The pornstar martini was more so a passionfruit mimosa, pure prosecco! It was so bubbly rather than smooth. Any good bar serves the prosecco on the side. Our waitress and all the staff were amazing though and the view is worth the $25 drinks. Great music as well. Just really bummed by the drink.
This was our second visit to this property, both times at sunset, this time as hotel guests. The view is breathtaking, making it an ideal spot for sunset cocktails. However, regarding the food and cocktails, both are of low quality and do not meet our expectations. We had the worst Aperol Spritz we have had. Bartenders had no clue. Additionally, the bartender was arguing with a client over a card and tried to involve me in the discussion, which was very rude and inappropriate. We had one drink, enjoyed the fantastic view, and left. Many rooftop options, avoid this one.
I really wanted to love this place but was very disappointed with the food. The vibe was great and server was warm and friendly, but the food did not live up to all the hype and the price. We started with the escargot with anchovy butter. Did not taste the anchovy at all, and was not salted enough so it didn’t bring out the flavor of the escargots. And the escargots were tiny. Then we got the grilled octopus. It was extremely charred. To the point that it masked the flavor of the octopus. And sauce was light and nice though. For main we shared the hanger steak. This was the highlight of the meal. The potato was to die for and steak was well cooked and juicy. Though, one side of the steak was better than the other. And for dessert we got their only dessert, panna cotta with sour cherries. All I can say is skip dessert please. It tasted like Trader Joe’s yogurt with sour cherries. Not worth it at all, just walk a couple blocks and get ice cream around the area if you are craving sweets. Not sure if they had a bad night but the food was just ok. Not too good, not too bad. Would not wait in line for this. If it really was just a bad night, work on your consistency. Part of being a good restaurant is being consistent.
I came here to meet a friend for dinner on a Monday evening. We were greeted by a bartender who seemed to have a “too cool for school” attitude. My friend and I sat at the bar and shared the escargots (which were okay) and the steak (which was good). The options for wine by the glass were slim… too slim for a “wine bar” in my opinion. Not an amazing place that I would make it a point to go back to, but wasn’t horrible. The place itself is cozy and cute as others have noted.
Only good thing about this place is the bathroom attendant Ibrahim. Came in knowing it’s a club and drinks would be more expensive, but the tequila soda I paid over $20 for was extraordinarily weak. Having learned my lesson about ordering liquor from the place, I went back for a second round and asked if they had White Claw. Bartender hands me a Surfside (a little more than $11 for the can), and then PROCEEDS TO SIGN FOR ME, TIP FOR ME, AND TAKE THE HANDHELD AWAY before I can even touch it. This was an extremely quick movement, like he is very well practiced at signing and tipping for customers while they’re putting their cards away the moment they tap. I tipped 20% on my first round. I don’t know what the average tip at this business is or if a noticeable number of customers don’t tip, but frankly, that’s not my problem. You CANNOT sign and tip on a bill on a customer’s behalf. That is outrageously disrespectful, and probably illegal. Maybe he felt overwhelmed by his ~7 customers at his nightclub bar, but that does not excuse this. Truly appalling. I wonder how much money he steals from unknowing customers per month with this kind of behavior. Dude needs to be fired
ABSOLUTELY HEARTBROKEN…Just told we were TOO BROKE to eat at his restaurant after waiting for 2 and a half hours in the cold. As two graduate students, my gf and I were patiently waiting for our annual celebration dinner here where we have ALWAYS ordered the grilled octopus $28 and the Hangar Steak $45. We settled in and ordered with giddy anticipation. After a few minutes we saw the crew whispering with each other, after which the owner approached us and told us to get out of his restaurant, telling us “this is a restaurant where people order dinner. You can’t even feed one person with this, are you joking?” After which we laughed thinking he was joking. Nope. He said we were not worth his time. My girlfriend is in tears, back out in the cold. We were humiliated, our annual tradition was ruined, and I will be getting back on my train back to Boston, from which I traveled to enjoy our dinner. Have fun paying your rent.
KICKED OUT FOR NOT ORDERING ENOUGH. My boyfriend and I (both graduate students who earn less than minimum wage) have been coming here for 3 years for our anniversary. Today we came 10 minutes before opening and put our names down, and waited 2 hours to be seated. The food has always been worth it. When we arrive we ordered the octopus ($29) and hangar steak ($45) for our dinner. This is a lot of us to spend on dinner and that’s why we save it for special occasions. The manager/owner came up to us and said that wasn’t okay and that he couldn’t afford for us to spend that little on a Saturday night. We said we couldn’t spend more. They said if we couldn’t order more then we would have to leave. We were heartbroken. I have ordered that exact combination for 2 people maybe 5 times before at this resultant with no problems. If you have a minimum for me to order tell me that at the door when you take our names down! And definitely don’t make us feel like shit for being poor. How are we supposed to enjoy our dinner when we’ve been told that if we don’t order more we’re not allowed to stay? Disappointed and heartbroken to be treated this way.
