Opinions de Lucky King Bakery New York
No frills, good old delicious NYC Chinatown fare. Reasonably priced, a family favorite. Check these folks out if you haven't yet. They're an institution in this neighborhood! I always visit them when I'm in the area and am never disappointed.
My favorite pineapple bun in the city
This bakery has such a great variety of food and drinks. There’s so much to choose from - dim sum, rice boxes, cakes, desserts, herbal drinks and more! Everything I’ve had has done a fine job of fixing my hunger pangs. It can get busy and the staff do their best to fulfill orders quickly.
The roast pork buns was amazing. It reminds me of the ones I used to purchase in flushing queens years ago.
Classic bakery in Chinatown. Delicious HK milk tea plus all my favorite bakery items (pineapple buns, roast pork buns) and dim sum (fried and steamed!). Perfect way to spend an early Saturday morning
I love this bakery!! It is filled with a great selection of buns, cakes, dim sum, drinks, and more! I've been coming here for as long as I can remember, and the colorful seating and quick service are always a delight!
Good bakery/café with pretty cheap prices and a few tables for sitting. Caters mostly to locals. The usual crowd there include mostly elderly Chinese and some workers in the area. They also have a good variety of dimsum - may not be the best in town, but still decent, quick, and available in the evening. A good choice for authentic Cantonese baked goods, drinks, and dimsum with no frills.
I really like their steamed buns, dim sum, steamed rice boxes, and Chinese pastry. I had 1 bad experience with their baked breads as they were as fragrant or soft as other bakeries but I come here for more traditional chinese pastries and foods.
Pretty good Chinese bakery right off grand street subway station. Scallion, bacon hot dog bun was tasty. Their iced honey milk tea is excellent. We also got dry shrimp noodles and a pork bun. Overall solid experience. 30 minute time limit to eat their food, not sure how strictly that’s enforced.
I really love stopping by lucky king when I want fresh pineapple buns and lemon tea. I lived in Hong Kong last summer and the foods here remind me of being there. There are always older Chinese people hanging out inside as well as other customers but I've never been there when it was over crowded or super busy. I'm always helped as soon as I'm ready to order. The prices are also super reasonable.
Old school bakery/coffee shop. Uncomfortable seating in dimly lit eating area. Native language a must. Tasty offerings. Good turnover insures quality items. Many unique entrees.
The selection of pastries is excellent. But it goes downhill from there. The shop is crowded and noisy. There's not enough space to customers, and many customers are using the place to socialize and thus make it difficult to find a table. The worst part is that there are no restrooms.
Many of the bakeries in Chinatown close by 6pm weekdays. I am lucky I found Lucky King. I have been stopping in on my way to the train station after work, usually after 6pm. I pick-up some bao or dim sum. Staff will make suggestions to let you know similar items that are available. Comfort food. Generally friendly service.
Would try somewhere else. $5.50 for a small milk tea, pineapple bun, and hot dog bun. Milk tea was alright, but by the end, pretty sugary and disappointing. Pineapple bun was pretty dry. Pretty large space inside with tables and chairs. I think there was a homeless guy lingering near the door? Pretty wide variety of food. Just as another reviewer pointed out, quite a lot of their pastries are not in the display cases, but behind on the heating trays.
I've been here about a handful of times and most of those times have been without incident. Yes, the fried sesame balls have been a bit greasy but passable but I can usually count on getting at least a few items I really like. However, the last time I was there it literally nearly killed me. I'm not speaking in hyperbole here. One of the things I've grown accustomed to but don't too much like when I'm in Chinatown is that often I'll go into an establishment and wait to be waited on and someone will come after me. That is visibly Chinese or Asian and they'll take that person's order before mine. This is what happened on my last visit here. Now that man placed his order and like I said I understand it may be just a cultural bias so I shake that off. It's one of those when in Rome situations. However, when I order my food and repeat myself three times and you allow somebody that's come in after me to place my order for me in a language, I don't speak. Well on its face. It seems like it's helpful except for the fact that I ordered one item and he clearly ordered something different which I'm allergic to. So I hadn't eaten in about 7 hours. I was very hungry. I paid for food that apparently, the person behind the counter decided I was not qualified to order for myself. Here's the thing you may be thinking. Well maybe she just couldn't understand you or maybe he was just trying to be helpful. Two things can be true at once and there still be quite a lot of liability involved in killing someone with a food allergy. If there's a language barrier issue, which there hasn't been before but clearly there was some issue this time; then order forms can be used in order to alleviate this issue. It's far better than doing this with the wrong person and having them sue you. Furthermore, put yourself in my place. How would you like it if somebody that you didn't know presumed to order food for you and the business that you are doing business with decides that their order on your behalf supersedes your own. Because the person that took it upon themselves to order for you looks like the person that is taking your order and speaks a common language that you don't. Believe you, me. If the result ended up and you almost going into anaphylactic shock; you would have an issue with it. Now according to Google maps I'm in the top 10% of Asian grocery store reviewers so I'm not a neophyte wandering into Chinatown for the first time. Anyway you slice it, this was not acceptable and could have been deadly.
Most disgusting owner the male guy, he sneezing front the food using his finger to squeeze it, then he didn’t even bother to wash hands, awful, also there is a homeless guy at door to harass customers as well, be careful
Bought dim sum from here to go. Shumai was one of the worst I've had; super dry meat and shrimp. Fried Shrimp roll was decent but a bit cold. Shrimp dumpling was raw with starch clumps inside
