A very memorable dining experience at NYC’s famous vegetable restaurant. We tried the Summer 22’ tasting menu and it was phenomenal. Pictured below in order of serving including two “gifts from the kitchen” (photos 2 & 4). So much creativity and flavour in every dish. Amazing service and ambiance. My favourite was the Corn Mousse.
Very impressed. Thoroughly enjoyed every part of the 5-course pre-fixe, plus the two unexpected "gift" courses and amuse bouche. My favorite item was the zucchini (the filling in that roll was so delicious). My least favorite item was the corn, though it was my fiancé's favorite, and visually it was my favorite too. They also accommodated her non-cheese preferences by serving her several dishes where they substituted out the cheese (in one dish, the eggplant, I actually preferred hers to mine). We also shared two cocktails and two mocktails, The Great Wave was my favorite among them and among my favorite cocktails ever (tamarind sweetness balanced by ginger/lemon, with satisfying texture as well). Loved that it's a "non-tipping establishment", I wish more restaurants were. It's fine dining in that they also replaced our silverware after each course, and I enjoyed it more than other fine dining experiences double the $95/person cost (I hesitate to write this last part, lest management uses it as a reason to raise the price!)
reserved two tables at separate times for a large group, they were more than accommodating and let us all sit and eat together. We were in New York for 2 weeks, and most of the six meat eating friends I brought to Dirt Candy agree that this was our best meal the whole time we were there. I've never been able to do the Michelin star pay for multiple courses thing because they're always meaty or I'm too picky but you still have to pay the full meat price as a veggie, so not only was Dirt Candy a genuinely wonderful experience, everyone was delightfully surprised by just how delicious and filling it was! The only negative part of my experience is that it's ruined all other restaurants for me since I live on the other side of the world! 😂
This was my first ever fine dining experience. Went here for a celebration with my partner and the staff were all extremely friendly and personable. When I first arrived I had an awful headache and asked the FOH staff if anyone had any painkillers, and the shift leader / manager kindly pointed me towards the drug store around the corner. All of the food was obviously phenomenal and expertly crafted. The restaurant accommodated us for our vegan diets and the food was in no way less flavorful. Sat at the viewing bar and got to watch the kitchen team make all of that season’s dishes. Was overall an extremely pleasant experience and I can’t wait to come back and try their new menu when I’m in the city again. Edit: Forgot to mention, the PORTION SIZES here are phenomenal! Obviously the courses are on the smaller side, but over the duration of the meal you end up being absolutely stuffed. I couldn’t even finish the Eggplant.
We came here for their NYE pre-fixe menu. As someone who usually can’t survive without meat, this place surprised me in its inventiveness. You won’t find any “meat imitation” dishes, everything is unapologetically vegetarian. Every dish was good, some (like the French Onion soup, the sesame crusted squash, and the donut desert) were outstanding in both flavor and texture. The meal was also surprisingly filling. I didn’t get the wine pairing but someone in our party did and said it was fantastic (they source specifically from women wine producers). The service was great and not too slow as is sometimes the case at places like these. We paid ~$180 for 7 courses. It was a bit overpriced for what it was but that’s to be expected on NYE. Overall, it was a great experience that I would happily pay ~$100 for again.
Absolutely stunning experience. Innovative, bold dishes. The kitchen stands behind their menu with pride, they want to make you happy and let you taste something incredible. The fall menu was splendid. We got special treats from the kitchen as well, gummy bears, a carrot pizza and pickled beets. Inviting atmosphere and extremely friendly staff. Awesome. Amanda Cohen rocks.
Great vegetarian meal. We had the fixed 5 course dinner with the wine pairing option. All of the wine pairings were very unique and complimented the food well. At some point I lost track and over-served myself, but not a bad problem to have. The food was fantastic and you could tell that a lot of thought went into each course.
Wow. Best meal of 2025! So imaginative. The way they incorporate simple vegetables into such complex dishes is amazing! Everything was fantastic. The staff could not have been more hospitable. Special shout out to the eggplant sous chef, his dish was one our favorites. Can't wait to go back and see what they have in store for next season.
Went for the Canamex event on July 3. The food was even better than usual. Inventive. Delicious. A platter of 6 snack sticks came first. One for each person. We then each got a cheeseburger and hot dog, with multiple delicious sides to share. Dessert was a creamsicle. See the menu photo I posted for the details of this incredible vegetarian meal. Dirt Candy is always inventive and full of flavors. A must try for creative, vegetarian cooking.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC! I’ve been here a couple times, and the menu was absolutely fantastic every single time!! The menu is seasonal so you are always in for a surprise when you visit. I am a 100% sure that you’ll be mind blown by the finesse, craft, attention to detail, and the quality of food at dirt candy! I won’t believe anyone that says this place is any less than 5 stars! :D They also send you an email when the menu changes, and reading it makes me want to immediately fly to NYC from SF! This place is a gem and I hope it never changes!!!
This place is a true celebration of veggies. From the amazing staff, to the bold flavors, you will not leave disappointed. It’s hard to find a restaurant that is truly innovative with food in the way that Dirt candy is. They go beyond the expectations of what a vegetable should be, like the beet eclair that will continue dreaming about. I cannot recommend this place enough and I look forward to returning. P.S. - kudos to the restaurant for paying their staff a wage that does not depend on tips.
Dirt Candy is one of the best, or maybe even the best vegetarian / vegan place for me. They provide an amazing delicious tasting menu. They change their menu according to the season. I highly recommend to do also their wine pairing. Getting for each course a female created wine is amazing. The service is thoroughly great and so lovely. Get a seat at the chefs table. The cooks are happy to chat with you and answer your questions.
What a lovely dinner! Some very interesting flavor combinations, I loved the entire experience. They offer a lot of different, unique non-alcoholic beverages, which is awesome for those that don't drink alcohol or just want to take a break from it for the evening. The food is unique, and the menu changes so I won't say too much about our specific meal, but I would absolutely come here again in the future. They're super playful with flavor combinations and throw in a lot of extra dishes so you're comfortably full by the end of the experience. Also, this is such a well-run kitchen. We sat at the bar and noticed staff were very courteous not just to the guests but to each other. Also so fun to watch everyone prepare dishes, and see the perfectly executed timing of when to deliver dishes (they checked if either of us were away from the table, and if we were then they waited till we were both back to being the next course. They did this consistently). Just great communication and teamwork. Truly impressive. The price point is more than fair for what you get. LOVE that they pay staff a living wage + benefits so no tipping is expected or allowed. This restaurant is great. 11/10.
Literally the best meal I've had in my life. The staff was amazing, always present without hovering and very kind/professional. Also I got so excited about the pizza dish I ate two slices before remembering to take a picture. They also offered us complementary wine to help us celebrate our anniversary and gave everyone in the restaurant two "gift" bonus meals. Seriously, if you can go here please do.
Hailing from Miami and maintaining a vegetarian lifestyle for over three decades, we embarked on a new culinary adventure by choosing to dine at Dirty Candy, a Michelin-starred vegetarian restaurant in New York. Securing a reservation felt like a blessing, and the entire experience turned out to be nothing short of superb. The culinary journey at Dirty Candy was a revelation. Opting for the wine pairing added a unique dimension to our vegetarian dining experience. Every dish presented was not only delicious but also showcased stunning presentations and divine flavors. The attention to detail was evident as the waiter took the time to explain each dish before it was served, elevating our dining experience. The wine pairing, supporting female wine makers, was an exceptional touch. The person in charge of pouring the wine went beyond the norm, providing detailed explanations about each wine and sharing the stories behind them. This personalized approach added a deeper connection to the wines and enhanced the overall dining experience. One standout wine that captured our hearts was the EMME wine from California, crafted by the talented Rosalind. The entire evening at Dirty Candy was a delight for the senses, making it an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend this Michelin-starred vegetarian haven to anyone seeking a truly delicious and unique dining adventure.
Your palette will thank you when dining at Dirt Candy. It was our first time with our 8 year old as we all go tie tasting menu. My husband got the wine pairing which was very generous. The use of vegetables and the preparation with each dish was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and genuine happy to share the dining experience.
If you have the opportunity to dine here…. take it! Dirt Candy was the dining experience I was most looking forward to in NY, and it didn’t disappoint. There is a star ingredient in each dish, and they use it masterfully. My favourite was pain au champignon paired with a mushroom cappuccino. Creative and delicious! We can’t wait to come back.
This place blew my mind. I was so impressed with the hospitality of the personel, the tasty food and the wines as well. We had the fall menu with the wine pairing. We were there at first day of the fall menu. I wish I could eat that bbq squash every day of my life, and if I could pick one desert for the rest of my life it would be that potato ice cream. The wines were paired perfectly and that funky orange wine sent tingly shivers through my whole body. Best part is, no tipping. I will be coming back here every time I visit NYC.
This is place took me by surprise. Every penny spent here was worth it. Our summer menu was for 95$. Coming to dirt candy is truly an experience itself. I would highly recommend all veg folks to go here. Everything was brilliantly put together and every item was visually appealing than the last. They also accommodate vegetarian menu. The best part was the little gifts they give between each meal.
Absolute perfect tasting menu experience. Savoured an explosion of well-thought-of flavours. Michelin star food, all while in a serene atmosphere. The non-alcoholic wine pairing was divine! Bravo!!!
Dirt Candy is consistently one of the best veg/ vegan restaurants for us in the city (and this is coming from a certified meat lover). My husband and I come back almost quarterly for their seasonal menus - and we are constantly in awe of the beauty of vegetables. Their tasty, reasonably priced tasting menu combined with a woman-focused wine list and fantastic service make this restaurant a must if you are in the city.
A wonderful gastronomic experience for a curious palate, this all vegetarian menu did not disappoint. It is a prix fixe seasonal dining. We tried the fall menu. In addition to those featured on the menu, there were a couple of additional items served. The highlights were the parsnips with oaxan cheese dip accompanied with a margarita shot, the celeriac latke and Japanese sweet potato. Also featured, a refreshing brussel sprouts salad, beet Napoleon and an arugula salad. The dining service is impressive and ambiance warm.
HOW TO GET IN: this www something I booked on resy that I highly recommend booking beforehand. But it’s not too bad getting the reservation. I loved how as soon as we walked in the host was so friendly. She noticed I liked taking pictures and offered the chefs counter which I gladly accepted. I had the carrot colada which was an interesting drink but very good! All the dishes we had were so versatile and creative. It wasn’t just about being vegetarian but celebrating them and making different and delicious meals from them. I had a wonderful time.
Such a fun and delicious fine dining experience! All of the staff was great, and OMG that frozen espresso martini knocked me out of my seat. You will leave very full but satisfied!
This restaurant is fantastic. I can't believe anyone would rate this place anything less than five stars. I have traveled all over the world and have yet to find a vegan/vegetarian restaurant I have enjoyed more than this place. My wife and I chose to sit at the counter top, overlooking the kitchen. It was enjoyable watching the chefs meticulously prepare each dish. Every course brought to us was thoroughly explained by staff. Every course tasted better than the previous course. The interior also had low lighting, which set off a romantic vibe. I highly recommend bringing your spouse to this place.
I think it can be called a taste of NY. This restaurant was a friend took me,to be honest I am not so espected for that,as you know it is a vegetarian restaurant basically. But my eyes and my mouth was very honest to it's artist dish constrction designing and myriad of the flavors.which just like this multi-cultural city can be steaks ,but also vegetarian. The colour of the vege And the seasoning of that which give a very flesh flavour to NY inspired, twincled, calm down life in here which is not so easy. At last want truly appreciated my friend who took me here gave me a very different experience and thanks for the restaurant for it's wonderfully service and marvelous cousins.
After getting our schedules aligned, a friend and I were finally able to check out Dirt Candy. I have been following them before there was any inkling of me ever living in NYC and I was so excited to finally go and the experience did not disappoint. Service was absolutely amazing from the moment we arrived. Staff was informative and attentive without being intrusive. I asked a question about a dish and when they didn't know the answer they went and asked the chef. Now let's get to the food. If you follow their Instagram everything they make is absolutely gorgeous. As for taste? I don't have the words to even begin describing the culinary adventure they took us on. They started with the familiar flavor of cucumber but served it in a fun and imaginative way. Each course that followed was somehow even better than the last and got more adventurous as it progressed. The meal was 5 courses with 3 amuse-bouche sprinkled throughout. The star for me out of the savory dishes was the romanesco (4th course) it was fried to absolute perfection while still being maintaining it's integrity (no mushy vegetables here). I loved that it had flavors near and dear to my Mexcian heart but served in such a unique way. Now dessert. Not going to lie, when I read a dessert banh mi with bok choy and Sriracha merengue I had my doubts. Buy oh Dirt Candy made me a believer! It was absolutely insane! None of those ingredients scream dessert to me but they did it. It was the most adventurous and innovative course of the night. My fried and I have decided we will be going every time they change out their menu. Almost forgot, cocktails are amazing! This place is well deserved of its Michelin star.
Dirt Candy is a perfect example of creative cooking. If anyone tells you that vegetarian cuisine can't reach the heights of haute cuisine, tell them to eat here. We sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen, so were treated to what I consider my favorite "dinner theatre." We started with vegetable-infused cocktails, the Fennel 75 and a Vichyssoise Martini, both of which struck the perfect balance of ingredients. Each of the dishes was elegantly presented and bursting with flavor and the wine pairings were wonderfully creative.
One of the best dinners I’ve had in NYC. An exquisite and quite reasonably priced prix fixe menu. Loved the creativity of each dish - the real standout was the shaved cauliflower. While the restaurant decor is a little worn, it’s all about the food here. Love that there is a seasonal menu, may have to come back again!
This is our second time dining at Dirt Candy, and once again my partner and I loved it. Thoroughly inventive cooking, showcasing humble vegetables in interesting- and importantly- delicious ways. All the dishes in the five dish tasting menu, plus the little snacks in between, were superb. We particularly loved the celery takoyaki, the potato pierogies, and the cabbage dish. All much more interesting than the names alone suggest. My photos don’t do the dishes justice. We opted for the wine pairing and thought the wine selections were very good. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Looking forward to returning once again to Dirt Candy.
Amazing staff and even better food. We got to sit at the chef table and watched them prepare the dishes which was a fun experience. The courses were amazing and I was blown away by the chef treats. The standouts for me were the artichoke and the lasagna. Also the cocktails hit the spot, I thought the tamarind and ginger drink was amazing. Overall I highly recommend, i love finding nice places to bring my vegan girlfriend. One of the better plant focused restaurants I’ve been to.
This was my first experience at a vegetarian only restaurant. I was very excited to try it and looking forward to the tasting menu experience to be able to try many dishes. Each course was smart, creative, tasty, and filling. I didn’t miss the meat at all! I had a seat at the counter so I enjoyed watching the talented chefs cook during my meal. Check it out if you enjoy vegetarian dining. But don’t miss it even if you aren’t strictly vegetarian.
Nestled on Allen Street in NYC, Dirt Candy offers a truly unique and innovative dining experience that showcases the artistry of vegetables. During my visit this freezing winter evening, I had the pleasure of indulging in their winter prix fixe menu, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Every dish was a feast for the eyes and a comforting delight for the palate, proving once again why this restaurant holds a coveted Michelin star. The meal began with potato pierogies, a dish that was as comforting as it was complex. The pierogies, made from potatoes and filled with a velvety potato puree, sat atop a bed of caramelized onions that added a sweet depth to each bite. The addition of seaweed caviar was a brilliant touch, infusing a burst of umami and elevating the dish to an entirely new level. Just when I thought the evening couldn’t get any better, I was presented with an off-the-menu surprise: an onion macaron with a scallion filling and a roasted onion on the side. This dish must become a staple on their menu—it was absolutely phenomenal. The macaron’s crisp shell melted in my mouth, revealing a beautifully balanced garlic-onion sweetness that left me wanting more. The next dish was a celery-forward creation that highlighted the often-overlooked vegetable in a truly elegant way. A dumpling-like filling made with soft, subtle celery flavors worked in harmony with a delicate celery miso soup, bringing warmth and depth to the dish. Following that was a kale “soup”, which showcased kale rice cakes, ninja radish, and lollipop kale kimchi. The dish had just the right amount of heat and spice, making it the perfect antidote to the cold winter evening. Another off-menu delight soon followed: a creative take on cordon bleu featuring a sweet yellow beet with a lusciously creamy interior. While I couldn’t quite pinpoint the puree accompanying it, it was rich and unforgettable, leaving a lasting impression as one of the night’s best dishes. The journey continued with a pickled cabbage dish, stuffed with Yuba over an avocado puree. The dish had a refreshing balance of brightness and spice, with a hint of cumin adding an extra layer of warmth and complexity. For dessert, I was served a winter squash gelato paired with French toast and a spiced coffee that tied everything together beautifully. The warm, aromatic flavors of the coffee uplifted the dish, making for the perfect seasonal finale. Beyond the remarkable flavors, what stood out was the precision, creativity, and sheer passion displayed by the head chef and sous chefs. Every dish was not only meticulously crafted but also presented with a level of elegance that showcased masterful technique and innovation. Dirt Candy has rightfully earned its Michelin star, and after experiencing this exceptional meal, I wouldn’t be surprised if it earns a second in the near future. If you’re looking for a dining experience that is both comforting and avant-garde, this is the place to be—especially during the coldest nights of the season.
Totally surprised by the inventiveness, taste and presentation of this well deserved Michelin starred restaurant. I am not a vegetarian but accompanied my friend who is. There’s a set menu $105 (tip is included) of 5 courses and 3 amuse bouches (blacken/charred artichoke with heart of palm and pea greens soup with pea green gnocchi/dumplings and a pea green mousse with mustard) and a tiny carrot donut 🍩 for dessert. Every course was a taste exploration. I liked that each course highlighted that spotlight vegetable without overwhelming competitive flavors (or maybe they were just so masterful that I didn’t notice). I didn’t think I was going to be full as the first 2 courses, even with the 2 amuse bouches, were in the smaller side. After the delicious asparagus lasagna and by the Romanesco course (#4 on the menu), I was stuffed. April 25, 2024
We have been wanting to visit Dirt Candy since June this year and finally went here last weekend for my birthday! We reserved for the chef's counter (you can actually see the chef prepare the dishes) one month in advance. The fall menu was excellent and each dish was presented beautifully. It was so hard to pick a favorite dish, each one was packed with flavors and tasted so unique! They gave us two surprise dishes from the kitchen too which was such a nice gesture. The drinks were equally unique and tasted amazing. The service staff were amazing. They explained each dish and were very quick to respond to our requests. It's so great to see such amazing service even with no tips involved. The price is on the higher side, but honestly the experience made it feel worth it.
Absolutely amazing dining experience, highly recommend coming here! If I could give Dirt Candy more than 5 stars, I would. The staff were incredible - very friendly, nice, and attentive. I appreciate that they explained what each dish was and our plates were cleared quickly after we finished each dish - everything went so smoothly. The food was so delicious and creative. I loved the bold flavours and how fresh everything tasted. The staff also brought out little surprise dishes, which was very fun. We came here to celebrate a special occasion and the staff brought us two complimentary drinks that would suit our tastes (based on the drinks we had ordered) and the drinks they brought out tasted incredible! I don't recall the drink they brought out for me to be on the menu, so I really appreciated that. Overall, dining here was an absolute treat and I can't wait to be back to try their other tasting menus!
Always a fantastic meal that will make you wonder how they could possibly create such beautiful and delicious dishes!! Not only my favorite restaurant in the city but so reasonably priced for the quality, artistry and uniquely delicious dishes. Fantastic experience from start to finish.
I came here as a vegetarian with my meat eater boyfriend and we both had a wonderful time! First off the staff was so friendly and helpful. They wanted to help you understand the dishes and wines we were getting and everyone of them spent time with us rather than putting down a plate then rushing off. We got the wine pairing with our dinner and it was also well worth it! I loved how we got a story of the wine maker with each glass too. As for the food? Phenomenal! I love vegetables to begin with my boyfriend is much more picky. He is not a fan of carrots or celery but the dishes that has them here blew his mind they could make them taste so good. We came here as an anniversary treat but have decided we must come back every season to try the new menu. This place is a gem!
Dirt Candy’s five-course menu exceeds expectations and the staff explains you every dish with extra love and passion. Some of the dishes, including dessert, are a true masterpiece. Delicate bursts of flavors that you just don’t want to end. The wine pairing also deserves a special mention - organized around the theme of supporting women producers (kudos!), the selection of wines is spot on. Extra credit for the anti-tipping culture (Dirt Candy promotes paying staff adequate living wage and all). All the staff were amazing, super kind, and you get the feeling that all of that is genuine and not to get a few extra dollars. This restaurant truly has it all, highly recommended to not only vegetarians/vegans but really anyone seeking a special culinary experience!
Dirt Candy is exceptional. Went for the Summer 2025 menu and can’t wait to go back again. One of the best meals I’ve had, ever — and by far the best vegetarian meal. Every course was creative and delicious. The bell pepper shaved ice dessert was insanely good and delightful in its novelty!
This restaurant was amazing. As a vegetarian some of the most unique dishes throughout the tasting menu and love that it changes with the season. Staff was excellent and provided some great recommendations particularly the sparkling cider. All the dishes from apps to dessert were so well presented and well creation.
Literally my favorite restaurant. It's on the pricer-side but absolutely worth it-- the dushes a beautiful, innovative and complex. I'd recommend getting the wine pairing, as its a good value. The sommelier explains each and they are unique selections from woman producers and well curated. Fantastic choice, even if you are usually a meat eater and approachable as a first fine-dining experience. This is my wife and my splurge item 😋 Do the chef's counter if you are interested in cooking to see all the prep and care that goes into it
Genuinely the BEST vegetarian tasting menu we have ever had. Service was phenomenal. I was feeling a bit sick from before, the staff noticed and brought me ginger ale. Belief in humanity restored!! The food was soo good and such a unique concept. We also loved that each dish had such unique flavor profiles, down to the last mushroom dessert (which was unexpectedly delicious) A must go!!
Dining at Dirt Candy is an experience like no other. I’ve lived in NYC for 22 years and this is without a doubt my favorite restaurant. A seasonal menu that is carefully curated. Vegetables used in ways you would never imagine, savory and sweet. The staff provide an amazing dining experience with true hospitality. You do not have to be vegan or vegetarian to enjoy Dirt Candy. It’s about creativity and unique food innovation.
One of the most unique dining experiences in New York. A complete vegetarian set menu with thoughtful wine pairing if you choose. Vegan menu available as well. Each course was exceptional and creative. Menu is seasonal so the dishes I have pictured will change in the spring. I was incredibly impressed with every dish. Service is as professional and knowledgeable as I've had in any restaurant around the world. Don't be afraid to go if you're not a vegetarian. You will not miss the meat. In fact if vegetarian food was always this good there would be no more need for meat
One of two restaurants in Manhattan to get a Michelin for an exclusively vegetarian/vegan restaurant. Hoping they get a second star cause this was an excellent dinner all around. Chef counter seating adds to the whole experience and I hear they change their menu seasonally so we’ll hopefully be back.
This dining experience of a 5 course meal with unique flavors in every dish is outstanding. We tried the spring menu and absolutely loved it. (they also serve 2 pallet cleansers) The portion sizes might seem tiny but it’s very filling and fulfilling meal. This place definitely lives up to the ‘you eat with your eyes & nose first’.
As a lover of fine dining but who eats vegetarian at restaurants I was eager to try this Michelin star “naturally vegetarian” restaurant. First off it was delicious. I left feeling satisfied but not stuffed and felt that it was a great value for the price and the quality was there in every dish. The first dish was my least favorite, the croissant was flavorful but served room temp and didn’t love that, and the mushroom broth wasn’t hitting it for me. Other than that I would order and eat every item again. The desert was tasty but not something I would probably go out of my way to order. With each dish I felt like I was a lucky judge getting to taste a chopped creation, as they transformed ingredients into things I’ve never seen or tried but were familiar ingredients. The service was about two hours long, we sat at the counter and got to watch them in action in the kitchen. Reminded me of the bear but less angry! Service was confusing at times with different staff dropping the food and offering varying levels of description of each dish and not having the menu at the table as the meal unfolded I wasn’t always sure what we were getting and couldn’t hear the explanations too well at times. Some flat wear and glassware was served to us still wet which was not a good sign for a Michelin star level spot and a napkin I received had a stain on it. Otherwise it was a lovely evening for my husband’s birthday and we would go back for a different seasonal tasting menu in the future.
Just celebrated our anniversary here. Overall amazing experience. Great service. Inventive cocktails. The fall dining menu is new and really tasty. The only miss for us was the unofficial radish plate but everything else was truly phenomenal. My only complaint is that we left hungry. A possible suggestion is to add bread, a simple fix so that multiple patrons aren’t leaving unsatisfied/hungry.
Everything was beautifully plated. I was especially blown away by the little red onion macrons (which are off menu). They are bite sized treasures. The potato dish was a stellar start to the evening. Their dessert is absolutely fantastic. I love their inspiration behind the dessert comes from Ethiopian coffee culture. 10/10. Side note - I was slightly underwhelmed by the celery and kale dishes. Beautiful presentations but I feel like the flavors could have been enhanced better. The miso is what made it better for me. The kale dish had much potential (it was beautiful). I feel like it was just under seasoned (for my taste). Overall it was pretty spectacular. I recommend this restaurant for sure!!! I got the desert sunrise mocktail which was pretty awesome too.
I'm not vegetarian nor vegan, but this place let's you know off the bat that's not their m.o. at all. The whole point seems to be sharing how creative they are at prepping vegetables to show the versatile flavors. You are coming for an experience not for a huge portion to fill you up. Each dish was gorgeous to look at and tasted delicious. What I really loved was that each dish tasted entirely different from the next. I also would catch myself smiling from how they were able to make something look like caviar, but not be or look like sashimi, but he thinly sliced veggies. I highly recommend this restaurant, it just may be the most fun you have eating all year. I loved all the dishes, but my favorite was the French fries and frosty as well as the pickled cauliflower.
Upon entering Jackie the Hostess was a vibe with her popped collar and authentic self (loved)! Clinton was our kind and enthusiastic/generous server, could not rant and rave enough about that baddie, thank you Clinton for giving us your upmost uplifting energy and great customer service!!! The food was definitely like the weeds that grow all around the mountains in this area, which I’m guessing that’s where the name Dirt Candy comes from. It was a wonderful experience to see how these ingredients could create 5 star dishes! Very creative combinations! My favorite was the smoked Twinkie with the tomatoes, & the slushy ice cream dessert at the end of our meal. The polyester napkins were personally not the best idea, I think with the money spent at the establishment maybe a cotton fabric could be a nice idea. I asked for paper napkins and that seemed to be a whole thing which was funny to me.
What a truly exceptional and amazing experience. The menu is so creative and the flavors are superb. I had the vegan tasting menu and my friends had the vegetarian tasting menu. We all were blown away by each dish. They started strong and finished with a truly astonishing set of dishes. The carrot enchilada and the snow cone for dessert will stay in my mind and on my palate forever! So grateful to have been able to eat at this restaurant. I would be remiss if I didn’t highlight the incredible staff as well! Attentive and helpful. The food was so creative. I would recommend the wine over the cocktails but we truly loved this dining experience.
The tasting menu was absolutely fantastic. Every dish was very flavorful and we also got two extra courses from the kitchen. My favorites were the lettuce dessert and the peas pastry though everything was very tasty. The desert sunrise drink is a must try if you are interested in something unique. The atmosphere was very good and the waitstaff was very fast in replacing the cutlery and plates after every course. If you like vegetables and want to try something unique Dirt candy is a must visit. Loved it!
Was treated here by my partner for my birthday. He had managed to squeeze in a reservation at 9:30 PM, and the restaurant was still very lively when we arrived. We never felt rushed. We sat on bar-style seating, which I ended up loving because we got a better view of the food being prepared. The atmosphere was very comforting -- warm lighting, not too noisy. The staff were so lovely and brought a playful energy. And of course, the food was awesome. It is truly a vegetable restaurant, with each course spotlighting a different kind. I loved that the flavors and textures were being explored so deeply through this approach, and it made me rethink the "mold" that each vegetable fits into in terms of how it's prepared, what it's paired with, etc. We are looking forward to coming back and trying new seasonal and off-menu dishes!
This was above and beyond what I was expecting as I knew little about Dirty Candy going in. The vegetables shined in every way. There were salty, sweet, smokey, deliciously oily, and sometimes pungent. More sensations than most would expect from only earth grown ingredients. Tomato Twinkies will bring you back to your childhood while a rolled and grilled string bean pasta will give you new perceptions on what a long grain can be. Zucchini flowers with a tangy cream filling and sunflower array was fresh metaphorically and on the pallet. Along with the food, the service and vibe was energetic, inviting and caring. Small conversation with the staff made it obvious they care about what they do and are passionate. They'll also convey this with several gifts throughout as meal.
A MUST VISIT IN NYC. If you are serious about great food, this place MUST be on your list. The team have put together an amazing seasonal menu, that is pleasing to the eye, and even more the palate. Vegetarian or Vegan, you can decide. A very comprehensive wine list, beers, cocktails, cocktails and sodas. You will leave wanting for nothing. The staff are exemplary. An absolute pleasure. Treat yourself.
Didn't think I'd enjoy vegetarian/veggie based food this much. I very much am a meat lover. It was very interesting because I had no clue what was actually being served to me, and it was fun guessing what something was. It was great having the servers explain each course. I just did not enjoy the beet item, the cilantro was so finely chopped that it got stuck in my throat for like an hour
Went for a birthday treat, the atmosphere, staff and most importantly the food - left me speechless. Salivating in anticipation of the next course, flavour combinations, with beautiful colours and textures. All the staff were beyond friendly and were happy to engage with us, the vibe was so relaxing and welcomeing. Hands-down one of my most memorable and enjoyable meals to date. Worth every penny (sorry, dollar)
We have been to Dirt Candy four times, and every visit has been nothing less than outstanding. The fully vegetarian tasting menu is incredibly creative, beautifully presented, and always packed with flavor. It’s a place where both vegetarians and meat eaters can enjoy an inventive, satisfying meal. The pacing of the courses is perfect, with each dish building on the last without ever feeling rushed. The staff is warm, attentive, and knowledgeable, which makes the whole experience fun and memorable. Dirt Candy continues to surprise us with thoughtful dishes and unexpected flavor combinations, and it remains one of the best dining experiences in New York. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable night out.
Overall excellent experience. First night of new winter menu and all dishes as always were exceptional- the dessert is mind bending, extra kudos to the pastry team on this one. Service is top notch and as flawless as the food. I am a plant based eater but my guest who is not was blown away. Already looking forward to my next visit.
Dirt Candy’s Fall 2025 menu felt like a mixed bag. The menu’s fun and ambitious as usual, but most dishes could’ve been improved a good deal more. The onion tart’s really delicious, easily the best dish of night. The buttery tart shell had the perfect crispy texture with a bit of resistance. The whole thing ate like an aristocratic sour cream and onion thing. The only suggestion is to use garnishes more smartly. Garnishes are best when they modify bites to be slightly different from each other. The bite with the lemon peel tasted markedly different from the rest. With the format, putting three different garnishes on three different onion petals would’ve been perfect. The radish carpaccio was ill-conceived, sorry. A carpaccio is easy to eat because you can grab a corner of a large slice of beef and drag everything on it. This dish made us scrape our forks against the textured plate, like nails on a chalkboard. The mushroom hot dog was very Dirt Candy! Fun, tasty concept. Especially loved the buttery toasty airy bread. The only thing missing was a seared protein flavor from a typical sausage. Obviously, the portobello mousse would melt on a griddle, but I wonder if it’s possible to make a spread from well-browned seared mushrooms to add that flavor? The next gift from the kitchen was delightful. The texture’s totally my thing, crispy and mushy like a pajeon. Really fragrant from the sesame and chili oil too. The lettuce dish shouldn’t have been lettuce, I think. As it’s a larb lasagna, mint should’ve been the star of the show. The bites with mint were the best. I wished there were more mint. Also, I wonder if it’s possible to make bechamel using toasted rice powder instead of flour? The beet dish was a fun one. I think what made is especially fun was… the description only gave us some elements to work with, and we had to figure out the dish’s true identity on our own. It’s a samosa! I didn’t expect it to be fried. With the mint and tamarind, it’s clear the crust was inspired by samosas. The cauliflower chilaquiles dessert is as quirky as ever. It’s not just a hint of cauliflower. You can taste a lot of cauliflower in the mousse and caramel. Super creative! The components were delicious individually but kinda clashed when eaten together, not sure why. The service and wine pairing are great as ever. The chablis in particular went super well with the mushroom hot dog with its earthy undertones. And I’ll keep an eye out for the cremant as it looks great QPR.
I’ve been here three times (Winter and Summer previously), and this season’s Fall tasting menu is the best yet. Truly phenomenal, abounding with creative flavor combinations and textures, and genuinely elevating the vegetables that serve as the base. The cauliflower dessert is one of the best desserts I’ve ever had, and the candied beets and curry, the onion tart, and mushroom dish were standout as well. The kitchen always does an amazing job with the surprise dishes too, from radish carpaccio to sesame dumplings. Highly recommend the desert sunrise as an NA cocktail, and try to get a seat at the chef’s counter. Also love a restaurant that pays its workers a living wage and includes gratuity. Please go!
I’m giving Dirt Candy in New York a full five stars, and honestly, it deserves every bit of that rating. The food here is exceptional — creative, flavorful, and executed with real precision. Every dish feels unique, thoughtful, and beautifully balanced. The atmosphere is relaxed but polished, making it an easy place to enjoy a long, satisfying meal without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. One thing I strongly recommend is choosing the wine pairing. Each course comes with a different wine selected specifically to match the flavors of the dish, and they absolutely nail it. The pairings elevate the food instead of overpowering it. You can tell the team put real effort into curating drinks that enhance the entire dining experience. If you’re coming here, don’t skip that option — it’s worth it. The service was outstanding. The staff were attentive, warm, and genuinely enthusiastic about what they were serving. Dirt Candy is a no-tip restaurant, which I respect, but my server took such good care of me that I felt compelled to insist on giving her something extra. It took a bit of convincing, but she eventually accepted it with a big smile, and I could tell it truly made her day. That level of kindness and professionalism deserves recognition. Dirt Candy isn’t just a place to eat — it’s a place to appreciate food. If you’re looking for an excellent dining experience in New York, this spot should be at the top of your list.
Okay I just literally finished eating here and I couldnt move before I said how ridiculously amazing the food, the service and the experience was eating here. I was not expecting much as I thought all vegetarian restaurants were somewhat equal. Let me be the first to say, there are levels to this! Dirt Candy is above all the rest! As I am writing this I'm trying not to overhype, but I have to be very truthful. This was the best I have had in my life!! Chef Amanda is the most culinary life changing chef I have had the pleasure of meeting and dining with. Compliments to her and her staff! Simply can't be beet! (See what I did there) 😉
Amazing food all around, would 10/10 recommend going for a milestone celebration like anniversary or a birthday dinner. Definitely opt in for their wine pairing option, you won’t regret it. They not only handpick their wines but also pair those superbly with their food. My favorites dishes were hands down their dessert - which was an avocado dallop of ice cream with an egg cream and tortilla chips followed by their thai lasagna and then their onion tart, in that order. I’m so glad I chose this place for my first Michelin Star restaurant experience!
As a vegetarian, my wife has wanted to try Dirt Candy for years. We finally got a reservation to celebrate her birthday last week and the team did not disappoint. Juliet & Jackie took great care of us, and we both thoroughly enjoyed every course & wine pairing on offer. My wife doesn’t even usually like mushrooms, and the mushroom hot dog was arguably her favorite dish of the night. We’re already talking about going back next season to try the new seasonal menu. Thank you Dirt Candy! The meal stands out as one of our favorites after half a decade of living in the city together.
I posted a video review on YouTube (search for Sodafry and Dirt Candy), but this was an awesome experience. I'm not a vegetarian, but the menu is so creative and delicious. I never felt like I was missing meat. I took my teenagers with me and with a little preparation they had a great time. A highlight for me was the green bean pasta dish on the summer menu and the carrot tamal.
I first visited about 10 years ago and had an absolutely amazing experience. It is wonderful to see they are still living up to my expectations in 2025. The food is fantastic bringing so many flavors across the menu and presentation is beautiful. We tried the non-alcoholic wine pairing and I was blown away. I never knew 'not wine' could be so delicious. Kudos to the Sommelier! Staff were kind and engaging and I appreciated the acknowledgement of a living wage.
Wonderful dining experience here! The staff was great, the food was excellent. I wasn’t particularly impressed with either one of the soupy dishes; but everything else was unreal. The off-the-menu chips course was sooo addictive. Loved that the tip was already included. Tipping has gotten out of control. We’ll be back!
This is such a unique dining experience. Their all vegetarian menu is excellent. The menu can vary, so I can only comment on what we were served. While I liked the entire menu, here are some highlights. We had Brussel sprouts roasted on the stock. This was covered with a slightly spicy sauce. One picked it up with the one’s fingers to eat each sprout. After finishing the sprouts, the stalk was turned over and the soft core was scooped out with a marrow spoon I did not know the core was edible! Root vegetable chips with sauce and a type of coleslaw were delicious. The dessert course featured a spice cake, sorbet and a coconut pudding. This was excellent! The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful in explaining the menu. I will not soon forget our visit and can’t wait to return.
I came here for the first time a few days after the launch of their summer menu. As soon as you walk in you are greeted warmly and attended to promptly by a variety of staff the rest of your time there. The food and wine pairing was exceptional. For each dish you are told the story and intent, before being treated to a sensory treat. The dishes had variety of textures and flavors and the experience was well worth the price Definitely recommend!
I've been to Dirt Candy twice, once in March 2023 and once in April 2024. I loved the experience and the food in March and decided to come again this year to taste a new menu. I appreciated the effort and creativity that they put into this new menu, but the execution was lacking. I would probably go back again in the future after they switch the menu again.
We came late but the staff served us impeccably and with grace, for which I appreciate them very much. Dirt Candy introduces itself as a restaurant that focuses on how fun vegetables can be, and I think that largely came through, although there were some misses. In general, the food was on the bright and spicy side, and by the time the eggplant course came, delightful dumplings of eggplant confit, I was ready for something rich and different. I became a bit fatigued with the herbly, spicy, and sour notes, and the final savoury dish of corn was a very welcome break. Unfortunately, the dessert was confusing: tomatillo sponge with watermelon jam, and it was hard to detect them within the closed, stodgy sponge. I would like to come back to see their fall menu, hopefully with root vegetables and mushrooms.
This was our first vegetarian menu and we all loved it. The tastes were delicious and new to several of us. The atmosphere was fun and energetic but not too much to make us feel like we’re in a scene. The wine selection was superb and we shared a bottle that was exactly what we asked for. The only downside of our adventure to Dirt Candy was the staff. 1. Having these reservations a month in advance and knowing the dietary restrictions there were, the kitchen should have been more accommodating in providing a selection to replace something for the one allergy in our party. The staff was very adamant that they would only allow a substitution of one of the other courses in the problem dish. While we understand the chef didn’t want to put something out she wouldn’t like or isn’t good, the allergy and restriction was know again, a month in advance. 2. Our servers were S A S S Y, and not in a catty enjoyable way. But making jokes that a long-time friend would make. The first being a comment made about “This isn’t my first time.” When we were just trying to get reassurance for the allergy in our party. And the other was a really unneeded comment about the white dress our party member was wearing which was referred to as “I love your wedding dress” or something along the lines. Tone, time, and place all matter. Other than the service, the food and atmosphere were a hit.
An unusual vegetarian/vegan (by request) located in NYC Chinatown, offering a prix fixe menu of interesting dishes that can be paired with wines for an additional charge. Dining here was a treat, but would not be on my regular restaurant rotation. Service was top notch and servers explained each dish and paired wine. In addition to the six plates described on the menu, a small appetizer + small madeleine at the end of the meal were served. Good for a social dinner with colleagues or friends — Portions are modest; but surprisingly filling/satisfying by the end of the meal.
This place is out of this world. I have been a vegetarian whole life and yet I was surprised by the amount of flavors/textures they were able to extract out of veggies. Dirt candy will definitely make you crave for more veggies if not fall in love with them. The first three courses (fennel, peas, artichoke) along with the surprise items were mind blowing with each topping the previous. However, Broccoli - 4th course, was a bit of a let down when you compare with the previous courses. The dessert, a spin on Caesar’s salad was creative but not the best. Staff was very kind! Overall, this is a must visit place. As they have a seasonal menu, we will be back here soon!
I’ve been wanting to visit @dirtcandynyc for the longest time because I love plant based dining, and they have earned both a green star and a one star from @michelinguide ! There’s a vegetarian option and a vegan option available. The food was excellent - beautiful, creative, and really brings out the flavor of vegetables as well as natural spices. I love that they are a no tipping restaurant and respect them to be able to keep this up in NYC! It was a good dining experience, except that we weren’t really greeted in/out and it felt odd for a Michelin restaurant.
This restaurant is great, the food is delicious and unique, the atmosphere is very nice, however, for a Michelin star restaurant and for the price- I expected a little more. In terms of the dishes- the tomato and the zucchini were absolutely fabulous, the kimchi cheese roll we got as a gift from the kitchen was also delicious. The eggplant and the cord dishes were very tasty, but not good enough in my opinion. The dessert was very good. In terms of the amount of food we got- again for the price I expected a little more. I personally was full at the end of the meal but some people were not..considering this is a tasting menu and that the price is over 100 dollars, I did expect a little more. That being said, I still recommend this restaurant as they do offer some very unique vegetarian dishes that I loved very much.
Even though I am not a vegetarian, I love a vegetarian restaurant. My husband is a great sport and is happy to escort me and usually really enjoys himself. Dirt Candy had been on my list for a long time and we finally pulled the trigger on a Saturday night in early December while in NYC with some friends. Service was a touch erratic but overall good, but I was the only one that really liked the food. I thought the mushroom cappuccino was absolutely divine and enjoyed the creativity of the dishes. My dining companions liked, but didn’t love the food. They said it was fun to try something different but they weren’t blown away and wouldn’t necessarily recommend the experience to friends. I am happy to have checked this off my list but don’t feel the need for a repeat visit next time we are in New York.
I went to Dirt Candy on a Friday night with my wife.. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was interesting presentation, novel flavors and textures. The service was excellent and I would absolutely go back. It's fun, creative - not a "daily meal". My wife didn't like it as much and it's hard to pinpoint why but it's worth noting dining can be a polarizing experience. If someone's looking for a high end dining meets vegetable focused cuisine then Dirt Candy is a great place. On a separate note the no tipping policy is a very welcome addition to the NYC dining scene.
Dirt Candy is an absolute experience! I'm not even vegetarian and this was one of the best meals I've ever had. The tasting menu is pure genius—every dish is creative, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The broccoli dogs are famous for a reason, and the corn dessert was a revelation. The atmosphere is cozy and casual, and the service from Korra was warm and knowledgeable. Yes, it's a splurge ($40-50 per person), but worth every penny for the creativity and quality. Can't recommend enough!
I went years ago and it was incredible so I was excited to visit again. The service was excellent. All of the wines were excellent except the red wine smelled awful and was impossible to drink. The food was fine, all but two courses were served cold. They followed a vegetable theme for each course which I think limited what they could offer. Overall we enjoyed ourselves but didn’t walk away really loving any particular course.
I had heard great things about Dirt Candy as it’s a vegetarian tasting and it was difficult to get a reservation; however, we had mixed feelings during the experience. The ambiance was dark lit and the staff were very friendly but the food itself left us feeling unsatisfied. I truly wanted to love this place but I feel the representation of vegetables could have been better and there was no wow moment that elevated any of the dishes. I understand their menu changes, so maybe we got an off menu. Carrot Ceviche – light and refreshing from the Chef Chawamushi – I’m an onion girl and was impressed on how they used onions in so many different ways. I think this dish could have used a bit more crunch. Pain au chocolat – This one was so interesting. I love mushrooms and the pastry itself was delicious, flakey, & mushroomy. The “espresso” was good for one or two sips but then got too intense in mushroom flavor. This dish was very unique especially the mushroom espresso. Buffalo collard greens – We had mixed feelings about this one. The kale came with scissors so we can cut our own salad. I enjoyed the craft part of it; however, my dinner companion said “this isn’t my kitchen, why am I cutting my own salad ?” Butternut squash noodles – Freshly made noodles with a perfectly chewy texture, but something was missing in flavor. It could have been less bland. Stuffed cabbage - Very hearty and heavy but extremely bland. Felt like we consumed a waste of calories with this dish. Turnip – Flourless chocolate cake. Not too sweet but the perfect balance of citrus and chocolate. Tater tots - a cute snack from the Chef at the end. Overall ambiance and service were great. We were so dissatisfied even the day after and felt that the prices were not a representation of the experience unfortunately.
Most of the dishes were very good, there were a couple of stinkers, but the wait staff's reaction to being told a dish was not good, ruined the atmosphere. Had the winter tasting menu, three of the five dishes were very good one was okay, one was bad. When the servers asked how you like the course I communicated I thought this one was just okay I thought this one was bad and the reaction from the servers you would think I had insulted their mother. It felt really weird like I was being pressured to say a subpar dish was good, on a tasting menu not everything is going to be a winner. The bag of Terra chips with Mojo and sour cream with the tiny shot glass of beer is really the low point of the meal if offered I would recommend just telling them know it's a real palette ruiner, I found myself not enjoying the squash spaetzle that I was excited for because there was.no.palate cleanser between the chips and mojo and the Spaetzle. The wine pairings were underwhelming. Dining room was incredibly drafty.
DirtCandy is a vegan/vegetarian Michelin star restaurants in NYC. It is a non-tipping establishment. Overall my experience was average, not really worth the money spent. Total $272 for 2 people tasting menu + two teas. Ambiance - is nice and simple, lighting is quite dim. There is an open kitchen in the middle, where you can see the chefs preparing dishes. Staff & service - staff is very warm and friendly, explained the dishes and answered our questions patiently. Service was quite quick, they brought the next course as soon as we were done with current. We got two complimentary dishes as well during the five course meal :) Now coming to the food Complimentary welcome item - we got carrot mousse served in a savory crunchy cone. It had different textures and flavors. Presentation- 9/10, taste - 9/10 First course item - lettuce dish. Nice burst of flavors and lots of textures from creamy to crunchy. Presentation- 8, taste - 9 Second course - tomato dish. Nice pairing of donut, feta cheese and tomato jam Presentation- 8, taste-9 2nd complimentary item - it was clear broth with sesame seeds and turnip flat noodles. It was quite tasteful as well. Presentation-7, taste -8 Third course - corn dish. This dish was also good. Had few corn chips, corn soup, cilantro and little pasta bites. Presentation-6, taste -8 Fourth course - Eggplant dish. Liked the coconut curry and outer crust of the dish, however I didn’t like the texture of the eggplant filling. It also lacked seasoning in the filling. Presentation-7, taste -4 Fifth course- Caramelized onion ice cream Definitely a novel concept. Onion ice cream is sandwiched between choco chip cookies and served with framboise (raspberry sauce). If you eat ice cream on it’s own, you can definitely taste onion flavor. It wasn’t really something that I would go again for. But with the cookie and raspberry sauce, onion flavor gets masked nicely and is not overpowering. But I am glad I tried this wild flavor of ice cream 😄 Presentation-7, taste - 7
If you are NOT vegetarian or vegan, then this place is NOT worth the hype. Despite the beautiful atmosphere and exceptional service, unfortunately, some of us were left hungry with the tiny portions of the tasting menu, even with the extras. This is a creative restaurant with beautifully presented veggies with global flavors and a nice wine pairing of organic wines. I didn't care for a couple dishes, but enjoyed the creativity and though behind each element. (Also, I wish I asked if anything on the menu was spicy) It is a splurge. And if i have any vegetarian or vegan friends visiting in town and this is a must, I would come back. Be sure to get your reservations early!
