Opinions de Mah Ze Dahr New York
It was such a pleasure to meet Chef Umbar once again. The pastries at Mah Ze Dahr Bakery are luscious and I have been a devoted fan for many years. I have several favorites and ate the famous brioche donut with the pastry cream filling and then the vanilla choux paired with a hot cappuccino made by Matt, the barista. I took home a savory scone that I had at dinner with cheese. Team MZD of Jubidell and Julian were friendly and kind. This is the first bakery one sees when coming up on the escalator and one should stop for sweet and savory deliciousness. I am happy that MZD is open as I cried when the other two locations closed. I have many pictures of the pastries I enjoyed over several years.
Located inside Brookfield Plaza on 2nd floor, this Bakery Gem serves up coffee and breakfast parties. I am part of blackbird and decided to go check it out. It’s truly sensational options and the Service is quick, at least in the morning. Atmosphere is perfect especially inside Brookfield. I got the turkey sausage and egg on brioche sandwich with their fruit iced tea. Definitely go check it out if you are in the area and want some quick delicious pastries and coffee. I will be back for sure. Thank me later 🥳
***Disclaimer: VIRTUAL REVIEW I had the pleasure of trying various items from Mah Ze Dahr through a gift box. The item I would fly to New York to buy from this amazing place is the granola mix - also known as “A delectable journey of mystery and desire.” It contains angel flaked coconut, pecans, cashews, pepitas, dried cranberries, milk chocolate, and oats. It’s honestly too good to share. I mowed down more than half the container by myself. Zero regrets. Other items in the gift box are brownies and cookies as well as cheddar crisps that I plan to save for a snack when company comes. 5 stars for a granola snack that is as close to my mother’s as possible. Mmmwaaa! 💋
A beautiful space with the friendliest workers. Many thanks to Dee, Juan and Marlene who are incredibly kind and fun! The cream filled pastry is exquisite! Rich, creamy and delicate- I loved it! I also enjoyed their creamy tasty cheesecake and their dark chocolate brownie. Everything is so well done here. Just a fabulous experience. Many thanks 💜
Had the honor and pleasure of doing henna for their first Eid Chaand Raat event and the turn out was great! Was lucky to try some of the food and it’s so good! Super excited to return to this beautiful space with amazing staff.
there are many must-haves in NYC. one in most people's range is the Brioche Doughnut ($6 + tip) at Mah Ze Dahr Bakery. the doughnut is a fluffy soft yet densely layered doughnut filled with vanilla pastry cream, topped with a doughnut hole and sugar-crystal-coated. the doughnut is not overly sweet-- balanced between the richness of the brioche dough and the sweetness of the vanilla pastry cream. the softness of the dough, smoothness of the filling, and the crunch of the sugar coating takes this doughnut to another level of taste and texture. pairs nicely with a hot cup of coffee. Mah-Ze-Dahr translates to "magic that makes food delicious"-- a small luxury in NYC that you can treat yourself with or treat a friend to... this location is on the first floor of Brookfield Place, above street levelthere are a variety of sweet and savory baked options as well as a full coffee menu. take a break from shopping / errand running to enjoy a hot cup of coffee + a pastry while staring off over the lulling waters between a NYC and NJ on a wintry day.
The best cappuccino ! Croissants are flaky light and delicious and vanilla choux parfait ! Staff friendly, engaged and efficient. Thank you !
Famous for their brioche donut, also offering a great old-fashioned donut, pretty much anything they offer is tasting fresh and well. However, you really wanna be around on a Friday and get the Cinnamon roll, which tastes incredibly fresh while still being warm, my favorite pastry here.

Iced chai latte was magnicificent. Great pastries. Pricey but its fine given the area. Great view over the water as well

Visited NY to sample cheesecake at 15 popular restaurants/cafes around Manhattan. This place is by far the best. The taste and the texture is unbeatable. Couldn't resist treating myself to seconds....and taking away thirds. (Didn't do so at any of the others). If I lived in Manhattan this would, without doubt, be my regular. Was quite difficult to find. Not well sign posted, on the 2nd floor/level of the building.
This is my second year using Mah-Ze-Dahr for all of our holiday gifting here at our office, and I couldn't be happier! I reached out to them in 2024 after another bakery stumbled, and the process was SO easy! I completed a spreadsheet with names and addresses and they took care of the rest! We received terrific compliments from every recipient, and I knew we would do it again this year. A special shout-out to Radha, my primary contact, for keeping in touch this year in a kind, proactive way and following through with tracking numbers for every gift we sent! When we receive those thank-yous tomorrow, it will be thanks to these fabulous folks. (Also, the the granola is SO good that it deserves a special mention!)
One of my favorite places to get my coffee in the mornings before work. The syrups are house made and delicious, i highly recommend the butter caramel one. So good and pretty affordable compared to other coffee shops in the area. The pastries are also delicious especially the brownies. But most of all the energy is so amazing, the staff are always super sweet and have great energy! Highly recommend.
My partner brought me home one of their mocha croissants and chocolate chip cookies. We live uptown, Harlem, and let me tell you, that croissant made my toes curl. I had just several bites from the cookies and will give a full detail later, but this is some good stuff. Will be making a trip downtown ya'll.
Vanilla Bean Latte, chocolate chip cookie dough crossing and an old fashioned donut! All delicious!
The pain au chocolat with the semi-sweet valrhona chocolate running through the center is absolutely delicious! That is my favorite dessert! The chocolate cookies are very good too! The brioche donut is very tasty as well! The olive oil cake is perfectly baked as well as the dark chocolate brownie. I love so many pastries here and the staff is always so polite and friendly.

I was visiting NYC with my family and we decided to stop here to grab some pastries. Omg, the brioche donuts and croissants are to die for. Perfectly made and beyond delicious. The coffee was amazing too. I’ll definitely be back on my next visit.
Finally tried their chocolate almond croissant today and it is amazing. Was crispy on the edges, chewy in the center, excellent dark chocolate and fresh shaved roasted almonds on top. Probably their best item second only to the holiday hamantaschen.
I wanted to try the salted honey cold foam matcha but unfortunately it is seasonal. I got the matcha latte with oat milk - $9.50. So expensive for mid matcha
I’m a regular customer also experienced barista and I know the difference between latte and cappuccino… I’m ordering a latte for a reason but somehow I aways receive very foaming coffee… I end up having half of cup .. it’s a shame because I love the coffee there and I feel uncomfortable to make a comment every time

I bought one of their mocha almond croissants and it was way over cooked and burnt on the bottom. I don’t know how this location can be so much worse than the west village one but it is
Bakery items look great on their website & different from average bakery but flavors are a bit unusual. Old fashioned donut has weird flavor & somewhat salty. Not a fan of it. Chocolate chip cookies feel more normal but these goods are all cold & somewhat stale. I only like pastries fresh out of oven but these look like they were just sitting out for a while. I honestly didn't finish my old fashioned donut because it was hard, cold, & not very tasty. I think it was so hard that if I throw it at someone, it could be used as a weapon. This location used to be a Crumbl & I remembered their cupcakes were nice & soft if not warm. I ordered cinnamon buns online but when I went to pickup they said they ran out. Seems like their online ordering is out of sync with inventory which is always annoying because that's why I order online, so I don't have to wait. Not sure if I’ll come back since there are better options at Hudson Eats.

We felt like we got scammed. 😂 we ordered ice matcha latte but this was entirely milk, maybe with some matcha powder sprinkled. Definitely not gonna get next time. The staffs were friendly though.

This bakery will never get another penny from me. We had a valid gift certificate, but because I made a minor mistake on the expiration date, they flat-out refused to honor it. Their customer service is terrible—completely inflexible and lacking any sense of understanding or goodwill. Radha, in particular, was unpleasant and dismissive, offering no real customer service whatsoever. Extremely disappointing experience.
