Nobu Downtown offers a fine-dining Japanese experience with innovative flavors and fresh fish. The black cod and omakase are highly praised. Service can be inconsistent, and some vegetable dishes are considered forgettable. Great for celebrations and dates.

Opinions de Nobu New York
Nobu in Tribeca is where Japanese cuisine meets global ambition and the result is a dining experience that has influenced restaurants worldwide for decades. The black cod miso is the signature dish and it deserves every ounce of its legendary status buttery sweet perfectly caramelized and so simple that it seems impossible it could taste this good. The yellowtail jalapeno is another masterpiece clean fish a hint of citrus the heat from the pepper and you understand why people have been ordering this since the restaurant opened. The sushi bar is top tier with fish flown in daily and prepared by chefs who treat every piece like it matters. The omakase is the way to go if you want the full experience let the kitchen decide and trust them completely. The dining room has that Tribeca energy where everyone looks like they belong there and the vibe is buzzing without being loud. Nobu Matsuhisa created something that transcended Japanese food and became a global brand but the Tribeca original still feels special. It is where the story started and you feel that history when you walk in. The sake selection is outstanding and the cocktails are creative without being gimmicky. I have eaten at Nobu locations around the world and this one remains the standard. Some places earn their reputation and then coast on it. Nobu earns it every night.
The food was amazing. The besr sushi ever. Nobu has the best. This spot is amazing, a lot of celebs come here such as Rhianna etc. the only thing I was disappointed on was then we wanted to celebrate my kids birthday and my anniversary I didn't get that warm feeling. They just brought the cake out with a candle without any excitement. That's the only thing I believe they need to work on.
If you're looking for a great vibe in a beautiful building Nobu is the place. We made reservations for the restaurant which is downstairs but you can also sit upstairs at the bar or the counter. Set an an old historic building with high ceilings It's visually stunning. Service from the time we walked in was top-notch. We ordered a bunch of different appetizers so we can have a little bit of everything and then I highly recommend the teriyaki salmon for dinner and the wagyu dumplings. Don't forget to skip the drinks with the matcha Martini always being the highlight of our meal. It is a little bit loud and somewhat of a younger vibe so if that's not your thing this might not be your spot but for us it was fantastic. We have been to the one in Atlantic City before as well and this definitely trumped that. Service was super attentive and food was worth every penny. If you're looking to eat a bunch of things be prepared to spend over $100 a person. The only problem that we had is that there's not a lot of parking in the area so if you can take the train in or Uber we highly recommend that. The Good News is the WTC train station is literally across the street had we had known that earlier. I wish I can remember our server's name because he was delightful and it offered many recommendations. Definitely a great experience.
I visited this place with my family, my husband and our two children. We didn’t have a reservation, but we were still welcomed in and given a table, which we really appreciated. The service was friendly and very quick throughout our visit. I ordered the black cod as my main dish, and it truly lived up to the hype without being overdone. The ambiance was also very pleasant and well done. Overall, a great experience for our whole family. Also pretty child friendly!
Over the weekend (Sunday) I was taken here for my birthday. Restaurant wasn't busy, so it was a quiet evening. It was our 1st time. Our server Sigar (apologies if I spelled that wrong) went over the menu with us & helped us choose. Our drinks, the crispy rice, black cod, doughnuts & everything else we ordered was very good. Our waiter was attentive and very nice to us. I plan to go back soon.
My experience at Nobu Downtown was absolutely amazing. The service was impeccable—attentive, professional, and perfectly timed. I tried the tasting menu, and it was truly worth it. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. From start to finish, everything was delicious. Highly recommend for a special night out in New York!
Took a client and client here for dinner. Had a table at the bar and it did not disappoint. We did the omakase and it was awesome. Plenty of food and a great way to sample the best chef selections. Great experience and will be back. I have been to other Nobu locations and they are all good. This location was great. Will be back.
This restaurant anywhere in the world will always be my favorite. I love it with all my heart. The service is spectacular. It was my first time at this location and it’s beautiful and very modern. The bar/lounge area is excellent; the bartenders are super attentive, and it’s perfect for a date night or a few drinks with friends. Downstairs you’ll find the modern, open-concept dining room. This location keeps the same high standards as the others in both service and food. 100% recommended.
I always have the best time when I come here. The bar opens at 5 and dinner is at 5:30. The bar is literally that but then they have side tables that you can sit at. Libations were, Nobu Sidecar, citrusy and good. Pina Martini, if you like sweet & Matsushia Martini, refreshingly cucumbers. Crispy rice tuna to start and the the Summer Omakse, samples of a few dishes, well worth it. Our waiter was very informative and we were very happy with our choices. Have to make it to midtown one as well.
Nobu has come to define the fine dining experience in Japanese cuisine, and its use of innovation in combining flavors continues to raise the bar. Our experience was largely positive, except for slightly sluggish service and some forgettable dishes (vegetable sushi and veggie tempura to name a few). Apart from that, the service was hospitable, and food and drinks were great, and the ambience was exceptional. Overall, i enjoyed my visit to Nobu and look forward to being back again! Update: dropped by for lunch and everything was delicious and so efficient!
All I can say is just WOW. I loved the ambiance and the interior design of the restaurant. Great place to have a date or for a celebration. I had the pleasure of having June as our waitress and she was superb. She gave us more insight in the flavor profiles and some recommendations. Her service was great and I would come back just to have her take care of everything. Now for the food, I loved everything except the shittake salad but that’s only because of a texture sensitivity I have, the lemon dressing in the salad was great. The edamame choclo is the best edamame I’ve had, it was spicy and the Peruvian corn it comes with complements the dish so well. I loved the crispy rice with the spicy tuna, the crispy rice is so buttery and the spicy tuna on top was amazing. The rock shrimp was delicious and fresh. The yellowtail and jalapeño was a great burst of freshness with the spice of the jalapeño had my tastebuds dancing. The wagyu dumpling were soooo filling and delicious, I want to try the tacos next time. June also got me and my partner a small bite with some writing to congratulate on our anniversary which was so kind!!! (We couldn’t order dessert because we were SO full but the passion fruit baked Alaska looked soooo good from what I saw other guests) Everything was delicious and I understand the hype now.
Nobu Downtown feels a little different from some of the other Nobu locations. Somehow smaller, more intimate feel but could be layout and lighting. Casual but still very much that upscale, trendy Nobu vibe. Dark room, a little loud, but that’s pretty typical here and part of the energy. Service was good overall and the timing worked well, but when we asked for recommendations the waitress didn’t really lean into that. With a menu like this there are so many great dishes she could point you toward, so we ended up just ordering on our own. Upselling opportunity lost for her, and new interesting options unexplored for me. Food was consistently good though, which is what Nobu does well. We had the yellowtail (menu house suggestion), rock shrimp, ceviche, sticky rice 😍 and the black cod miso. The sticky rice actually ended up being my favorite, which surprised me — I’d definitely order that again. Weird right? They may have forgotten one of our appetizers along the way, but it wasn’t a big deal and we didn’t worry about reordering. Overall a good Nobu experience — consistent and pretty food, great vibe, just not quite as strong as another Nobu visit we had recently, so landing at a 4. Still happy we went — Nobu is always a solid choice.
Awesome service, excellent food in general and spacious atmosphere. Otoro sushi was the best. Scallop sushi, Snapper sushi and Wagyu sushi were really good. Sushi and sashimi were very fresh. Tuna off the bone was good. Cod was delicious. Squid was tasty and not chewy. Lobster was a little over battered so it became a little soggy.
Starting off the interior design was beautiful!! The upstairs bar era was extremely well designed with an upscale and luxury yet cozy atmosphere—really great for a casual bite and drinks. But I will say the host upstairs wasn’t the friendliest so I took a star away. Moving down to the main dining room; as per the interior design upstairs being beautiful, it was beautiful downstairs as well. We had the MOST amazing server ever named Esteban!! He remembered us from 2 months ago which was very sweet! The service was very attentive even though it was a very busy night with a private event going on. All the water cups were refilled, the tables were all crumbed very neat, plates were changed every course, and everything came out very promptly. The food was also absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the miso cod which just absolutely melts in your mouth as well as the buttery scallop sashimi. I have been coming to Nobu every week and it truly never disappoints!
A spacious two-level restaurant offering classic Japanese cuisine. The highlight was the Squid “pasta” with a light garlic sauce, which was anything but your typical pasta plate. It had no pasta, but mingled grilled vegetables and tender squid, finished with a subtle, delicious smoky flavor. The non-alcoholic lychee mango cocktail was also good.
Came here to celebrate an anniversary dinner in the middle of the week. Surprisingly it was not as busy as I was expecting at 6:30pm. Food quality and taste was ok, but presentation was amazing. Seating was ample in the lower level. Service was good but I could tell they were short staffed based on the wait times. In terms of menu items, I would recommend the crispy rice and the specialty roles.
Anniversary dinner, server was awkward and not friendly. Ordered the chefs set menu….dishes were rapid fire…we asked for a short break between the 3rd and 4th… curtly told we were on a short timeframe to turn the tables. Lost interest in the food, server and Nobu from that point on. We boxed up the remaining dishes and left. Had the server explained the tight timeframe and oversized portions we could have made an informed decision. The attitude of the place really rubs against what the kitchen tries really hard to deliver… disappointing!
Interior is lovely, service was very friendly! We managed to get a table walking in on a Sunday, and it wasn’t too busy downstairs so wasn’t too loud either. Food was good, especially the honey truffle corn and crispy rice! Tacos are small, but tasty. Baked Alaska dessert was surprisingly good, although flambé did char one side a little too much! Expected the food to be better considering the price point but okay for a nice evening out.
New review September 2025 Sorry, Nobu, I have to lower my rating again. The lunch portions are now very small—about one-third of what they were at the beginning of September. The service remains poor. I will not return until there are real improvements. Review September 2025: 4 stars There’s a new lunch prix fixe menu—$45 for a three-course meal—and it’s excellent. The service has also improved. Thank you!!!! Old review 2024: 2 stars The service is terrible. A high-end restaurant should provide much better service. On two separate occasions, a group of three people was served at different times. Additionally, the rice never arrived.
I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience was a letdown from start to finish. Despite having a reservation, we were forced to wait 20 minutes while the reception staff treated us with arrogance and dismissal. The dining area is in the basement; it was incredibly loud, stuffy, and poorly ventilated. It felt suffocating rather than high-end. The Food: We were a table of four and spent $550, yet left completely unsatisfied. Most hot dishes were oily, heavy on seasoning, or lacked quality. • Glacier 51 Sea Bass ($56): Supposed to be truffle and miso, but had zero flavor of either. • A5 Wagyu New Style: A waste of premium meat. It tasted overwhelmingly of generic soy sauce. • Squid Pasta: Essentially just wok-fried vegetables with squid. I’d expect this at a casual Chinese restaurant, not here. • Shiitake Salad ($30): Way too oily. • Miso Soup ($9): Tasted exactly like instant soup. • Salmon Tartare: Heavily over-seasoned and the portion size was pathetic. • New Style White Fish: The flavor profile was just weird. • Grilled Salmon ($40): Oily and unremarkable. • Sushi: The nigiri ($8/piece) was average at best. The Salmon Tacos were too salty, though the Lobster Tacos were passable. The Service: The service was as poor as the food. Haha when I left a standard 15% tip, he sneered at me. If you are looking for authentic Japanese food or a pleasant environment, go elsewhere. Nobu worldwide seems to be resting on its name rather than quality. Don't go.
