Really enjoyed my dinner there, the building is classy and the food is delicious, authentic French and with some creativity. It’s pet friendly too so I can bring my puppy with me. The bar next to it is also pretty, think I want to check it out next time.

Great ambiance, great foods, great experience! This French restaurant’s chef Daniel Boulod perfects his menu. I like that it’s next to a chic Beekman Hotel, with a lovely interior and live Jazz music to entertain in the restaurant lobby.

Best magret canard I’ve had. All dishes were great (NY steak, chicken and gratin)

Save the money on airfare - no need to fly to France - just go downtown. Le Gratin is excellent on all counts, you are transported when you walk in the door and every item on the menu is delicious. It's one of the few rarefied places that is perfect all around.

An authentic taste of french cuisine in Manhattan. The poireaux appetizer and the loup de mer main course were scrumptious. They transport you back to France with the first bite.

Food and service were excellent - but surprisingly the gratin - while very good - was not the star. Really enjoyed the duck and the desserts (leave room for the cream puff - it's insane). Wife had the sole fish which was pricey but delicious. Drinks were also meticulous. Looking forward to another visit - I get why this place is always jam packed.

We celebrated our marriage ceremony with five of our friends. For parties of 7 or more, you’re requested to work with the GM and his office (Stephen Denaro). Overall, the process was smooth prior to the event to reserve and pay for the meal. We had an amazing prix fixe meal, served family style. For first course, our favorites included charcuterie and escargot. For second course, our favorites included the rotisserie chicken and steak. You must also have the namesake gratin (we added pomme frite as well). For dessert, my favorite was the apple tart. We had several servers helping us, including the sommelier, who we worked with before the guests arrived to choose a half bottle of Champagne and a gorgeous red Burgundy.

My wife and I dined at Le Gratin in mid-OCT 2025 for her 50th Birthday Dinner. Simply an amazing experience. The decor/ambiance was impeccable, the food was inspired and the service was attentive and engaging--cannot say enough about dining at this venue...you will be pleased and you will be back!

Absolutely spectacular meal at Le Gratin! The space itself gorgeous, and the food is absolutely delightful. I highly recommend the tuna crudo, spit roast chicken, and foie gras. And you can’t forget to get the Gratin potatoes!! (Will forever dream about those cheesy layers!) GM Adam was incredibly attentive, and our bartender Stephen made incredibly refreshing and unique cocktails.

Boulud just never misses. The $29 lunch is perfection. The chicken is one of the best rotisseries I’ve had. And the “chopped steak”, which is really just a burger, was awesome. String beans were Devine. We also had the steak tartare, which was excellent.

Loved the experience! The service was top notch, the place was buzzing with activity, and the food and drinks were exceptionally good. Le Gratin is living up to the hype and expectations and Daniel Boulud continues to impress. Worth a visit if you're seeking a fine dining experience in FiDi!

Everyone in our table of 7 was so impressed with the flavors on the table, the attention to detail in service, and the atmosphere of the space. The prix fixe menu was fantastic. Thanks to the server who did everything right for our special occasion.

Haven't had French food in a long time and I'm glad my first experience in a while was here. Went for the restaurant week prefix and not only was it a great value, but also incredibly delicious. The escargot was exceptional and the bream may have been the best piece of fish I've ever had. Finally the creme caramel was fantastic and I could have eaten 2 more. Great ambiance too and prompt service. Can't recommend enough!

This wonderful Bouchon Lyonnaise located in the Financial District offers classic specialties with an innovative twist such as Tempura Escargots, tasty Terrines, Onion Soup, Canard a la Poivre Vert, Hamburgers and many others. Chocolate Profiteroles and Apple Tart are the way to finish the experience. The bistrot has an authentic French aura, sophisticated and cozy. Service is exceptional. A memorable experience!

Once in a while I need a bistro fix: frisse aux lardon, MR liver, gratin, etc. went here for mothers Day and had a very good meal including all the above. We brought a bottle (bring a nice one to cover the strong corkage!) and bought a lovely Sancere. The Somm was great. It’s expensive, but was well executed and delicious.

F
Fernando Torales Acosta

A bit stuffy, but I was a poorly dressed walk in and they took me. Tartare was good, and the duck was great. I thought the cod was ok but my wife actually really liked it. Not crazy expensive but not cheap. Overall was a fantastic, satisfying meal. Slightly on the salty side so be sure to ration your bread.

A

It was INCREDIBLE! Thank you to the GM Adam and manager Anais for an unforgettable experience. The food was unbelievable, we a French person I can tell you the quality was there and it was really traditional French cuisine. The location is breathtaking and the staff really attentive. Will be back again and can’t recommend enough!

As French expats living in the city we've found it exceedingly difficult to find some authentic "bistro" food in NYC. Thankfully Le Gratin solves that niche for us. We must have come a dozen times or more and everything is always flawless. Food is very authentic and well-made, proces are reasonable, and staff is great. We'll keep coming probably until they close their doors!

One of my favorite restaurants. Being from Lyon, I love going there for quenelles especially as they come in a bechamel sauce. My last visit there was for brunch so I had the eggs Florentine which were the best I ever had. A dish common in restaurants brunch menu I've had many times at various places over the years and none came close to the eggs Florentines at Le Gratin. Melt in the mouth, just fantastic! Desserts including the profiteroles and apple tart were also delicious. The executive chef Guillaume Ginther and the pastry chef Kristyn Onasch create delicious dishes.

We celebrated my daughter's engagement with a group that started out as 7 people, then went to 9 people and then to 11 people. I had reserved an extra table for two but we had even two more. The staff was so accommodating and helpful even though it made the serving much more difficult. We had the best time and everyone loved their meals. I can't wait to go back when it is a regular meal and I can focus more on the food. I already know what I want to order. Thank you, Le Gratin for a perfect night.

I visited this restaurant on two separate occasions. The first time was an attempt at their restaurant week menu but arrived for their brunch. This French toast we amazing and so were the drinks; I knew I needed to come back for dinner and I was right. This fulll meal was so delicious, every part. The bass skin was the perfectly seasoned with the right amount of crisp. The combination of the different flavors in the salad blended so well. And that chocolate sorbet 🤌🏾 perfection.

Daniel Boulud is a genius restaurateur. Every visit to one of his establishments is a delight, and Le Gratin is no exception. The staff here, like at all of his restaurants, are warm and welcoming, creating a dining experience that feels genuine and gracious—far from the pretentiousness sometimes found at Michelin-starred venues. My server at Le Gratin was attentive and kind, making the evening even more special. The French onion soup was a perfect antidote to the chill of Lower Manhattan. The rich, caramelized onion flavor was beautifully balanced with just the right sweetness and bitterness. However, I did notice a couple of burnt pieces, which slightly detracted from the otherwise excellent execution. Moving to the main courses, the duck was tender enough to melt in your mouth and paired wonderfully with the green peppercorn sauce, which added a lovely depth. That said, the duck itself lacked a bit of that signature rich flavor and could have used a touch more seasoning. The POULET FERMIER À LA RÔTISSERIE was a pleasant surprise. The roasted chicken sounded almost boring. But I was surprised to it is paired with the Gratin. It’s “Le Gratin”. It has to be great. And he added “DB’s mother” to the gratin. I had to order this dish. The chicken was perfectly cooked—juicy, tender, and infused with a subtle hint of garlic. The gratin, while flavorful, could have benefited from a bit more cooking time to soften the potatoes further and bind them into that luscious, almost creamy texture I prefer. I added truffle to the gratin but don't waste your money for it. To end the evening, we were surprised with a complimentary chocolate cake with three layers of ganache to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This thoughtful gesture made the night unforgettable. The cake was rich, moist, and decadent, a perfect finale to an already memorable meal. Overall, Le Gratin delivers on the promise of its name with comforting, flavorful dishes and an ambiance that makes you feel truly cared for. A few minor tweaks would elevate it to perfection, but it’s already a gem in Lower Manhattan’s dining scene.

They probably don’t need another glowing review but I have no choice! I had my parents join my wife and I after we had a our wedding ceremony in City Hall. We were the first clients at 11:45am and from start to finish the kindness of the staff shined through on this very special day for my wife and I. From the champagne to the food, every choice was spectacular. We had too many to document here. The main ingredient to this delightful brunch was the staff. Offering attentiveness and an appreciation for our occasion. We felt truly like a newly married couple having a special lunch with close family. The words don’t do it justice. Forgive me for not remembering everyone’s names but the main hostess was a kind French woman who was truly so sweet..:even when my dad was asking if we were gonna receive anything for free. lol. Two glasses of Champagne later dad is taking a nap. Loved every moment and dish of the lunch. We ordered so many appetizers and entrees. There are zero bad selections. Keep room for dessert!

Had a celebratory dinner with my old colleagues. The service was great and really enjoyed what we ordered along with the drinks. Ordered the July special which was highly recommended by the waitress. We finished it off with a few desserts to share and they were all good. The vibe of this restaurant was very fitting of what chef Daniel Boulud envisioned of the bouchons in his hometown in Lyon, France. Glad I was able to check off one of my saved restaurants.

Amaury Peltier

The executive chef is simply the best cook in NYC. The food we ordered was just amazing, super balanced and with extraordinary flavors. IMHO it's the best french restaurant in the city. The ambiance is great, you feel in France, and the staff is super welcoming. You can come here either for a date, with friends, or for business, this place is great for any occasions!!

U

Had a great experience from the moment we walked in. We were a little early and they were able to sit us right away. The restaurant wasn’t busy when we were dining but got busier towards the end of our dinner. It was a Monday night and from water to the dessert we were in and out within an hour and a half. Knowledgeable staff, friendly servers. We loved it. My husband came for their November special Pithivier De Volaille and I got a duck breast. Both were delicious. Escargots were out of this world, so tender and delicious. Saw a comment in a different review about a ton of papers on top of the tables and I can understand why they’re there from a convenience perspective, but I almost dragged all of them to the floor as I was trying to get out of our booth. I feel like the place would feel better without them on the table for the price point. Other than that everything was great!

Le Gratin is such a lovely spot! The atmosphere is warm and elegant, with that perfect French bistro feel. The food is rich, comforting, and beautifully done — every dish feels classic and full of flavor. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the whole experience feels effortless. I have to thank The Good Lord for inspiring me to select, for my Thanksgiving Dinner, "LE GRATIN". I have been, always extremely pleased, at other restaurants from Daniel Boulud, but never at "LE GRATIN". And what an UNFORGETTABLE experience! The super elegant décor, the exquisite food, the outstanding service, the friendliness of the whole team, made my Thanksgiving Dinner, AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER! I can't wait to go back to "LE GRATIN", for the pleasure of all my.senses! Heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS, Mr. Daniel Boulud!

Food was absolutely delicious and service was amazing. The space was a little crowded for my liking but the overall experience was excellent. We ordered: Planche De Charcuterie - all of their pate was delicious. Soupe A L'oignon Gratinée - French onion soup was a must! Escargots et Pied de Cochon - this dish was my least favourite of the night. I did not like the breading of the escargot, but the mushroom and sauce in the dish were delicious. Magret de Canard - duck breast was cooked perfectly and so so tender. Moules Poulette Saffrannee - the white wine sauce paired perfectly with the fresh steamed mussels. I would do without the escargot next time but overall, it was a great dinner experience.

Y

The service was great here! Our waitress was patient, resourceful and courteous. The food was decent as well. It was our first time eating escargot deep fried instead of baked. The duck chest and steak were tender and juicy. The crab salad was fresh and refreshing. The fries were very aromatic. One of our saucers was chipped - it didn't impact our dinner at all but was just surprised to see that at a nice restaurant like this.

Chef Daniel Boulud has done it again! I'm telling you, this guy NEVER disappoints! Every single dining experience I've had at one of his restaurants has been phenomenal. Le Gratin is on the smaller side, with beautifully elegant old-world decor that still feels cozy. We started with the oeuf mimosa, caviar de truite, thon à la menthe et olives grillés, and quenelle de brochet au gratin. My only complaint about the deviled egg with trout caviar and pickled onions, was that there were only 2 of them per serving. The pickled onions added a bit of a tartness and the caviar provided the perfect touch of saltiness. The tuna crudo with grilled olives, arugula and mint dressing was bright and fresh, with the olives adding just a bit of tanginess, making the dish more interesting. The star of the group, and dare I even say the entire dining experience, was the quenelle de brochet au gratin. Admittedly, it’s not much to look at, but this cylindrical pike dumpling smothered in gruyère-mushroom béchamel is the stuff dreams are made of. The dumpling itself was surprisingly light and airy, serving as the perfect vehicle for the decadently rich and creamy gruyère-mushroom béchamel. Divine! For entrees we had the pot au feu royal truffé and the magret de canard au poivre vert. To me, the best part about the special was the poached foie gras. It was rich and savory, whereas the braised beef and veal to me seemed to lack the flavor punch I was looking for, even with the truffle bouillon. I will say a redeeming feature of the dish was how tender the beef and veal was. I’ll chalk this one up to personal preference. However, the roasted mallard duck breast in green peppercorn sauce left nothing more to be desired! Juicy, tender and bursting with flavor, this duck was perfectly executed. The leftovers were just as delicious the next day for lunch, and I was delighted that it wasn’t greasy or overly soggy after a night in the fridge. Overall, delightful experience and I will definitely be back!

A delightful restaurant! Exquisite atmosphere, excellent service. The interior is elegant, the music is pleasant. The staff is attentive and friendly. The dishes are delicious and fresh. The menu is varied, and the prices are reasonable. The desserts are a culinary masterpiece! I recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or a pleasant evening. The restaurant exceeded my expectations. It is a gastronomic paradise. Definitely visit this restaurant! It is worth it. It is a great place to relax and enjoy yourself. It is an amazing place!

Sometimes you need a place with a proper bar to sit at and have lunch on a random Wednesday. Having selected this pot as my destination I found myself lost in the neighboring restaurant and entered though a secret (not so secret) door which made for a great start. The menus offered all the classic front entrées and since it was just me I decided on the steak tartare as who doesn’t love French fries in a bistro. The bartender was great checking up on me but allowing me to enjoy my solitude. He fixed me a cranberry and soda and warned me it would be tart as they use all natural cranberry juice. Point number two for this spot. Then came some fresh warm bread and a side of butter. I tried to limit myself but wow, that is great bread. When my order came it took me a second to realize it was the right dish. Instead of a typical mound of meat with everything premixed, here it’s served deconstructed so you mix in what you want or edit. I went to town and mixed it all up and dug right in. As expected it was delicious and yes…the fries were amazing. I will certainly come back and be sure I make a reservation, by the time I left it was packed. As I was about to leave through the front door, I checked myself and exited though the secret door…just because.

A strong 5 stars restaurant. Location very classy. You travel immediately when you enter. Service is very cordial and attentive, all work together. Food spectacular. Difficult to choose from the meal but top would be salads lyonnaise and gratin. But duck Magret was exceptionally melting in your mouth! Too difficult to rank! Manager, she was very sweet and always checking on all tables. Nice interaction with the head sommelier too and the help servers. Trully a great experience last night.

Went here for our anniversary. We love French food and this did not disappoint. The décor is very authentic French of what you would see in Paris. The food was great. We had an ample choice of 1st and 2nd courses. I highly recommend you get the chicken as it was prepared perfectly. The soup was just right. The Au Gratin potatoes are not to be missed, well worth the calories. Our waitress was great. She was able to guide us through the menu and ensured we had a great dinner.

My visit was an amazing dining experience!! Absolutely loved the environment. The atmosphere really enhanced everything and that was upon entering before being escorted to our table. Staff was vey warm, pleasant and attentive. The menu provided every palette desire! The escargot was very tender and savory! Delicious!! Beverages were spot on! I especially enjoyed the dessert selections. The cream puff just blew me away! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience during my holiday visit to NYC!! Happy New Year!!

What a fabulous dinner from start to finish. From the warm and friendly atmosphere that makes you feel like you are eating in a bistro in Paris to the excellent cocktails and food -- my husband and I are hooked. The service was exceptional. The bread (which my husband rates restaurants on, was warm with a crusty outside and a chewy inside -- perfection!) The steak frites and cod were fabulous as was the chocolate layer cake. It reminded us of a special place we frequented in the West Village "La Metaire" which is no longer open. We have found our new favorite French restaurant. Now if they make a mushroom torte or garlic flan with mushrooms we will run back!

Le Gratin is an absolute gem. The ambiance is cozy and elegant, and the food is classic French perfection. The gratin dauphinois is heavenly—rich, creamy, and crisp on top. I also loved the duck. Service was warm, attentive. A must-visit if you love French cuisine done right!

This is my favorite among all the Daniel Boulud restaurants in which I've dined, both in NYC and elsewhere. The level of professionalism, the authentic Parisian ambiance, the quality of the food, and the presentation are usually of a high standard. I really cannot recall an instance of having been disappointed with any aspect of the dining experience. The salmon I had on my last visit was truly amongst the best example of this common offering I gave ever sampled. I always order the tuna Niçoise, and have never been disappointed. Their wine list is quite nice, and one can tell it's been curated to pair with the menu selections. I have yet to tire of dining here.

Le Gratin offers a memorable French dining experience with perfectly cooked pasta and expertly crafted cocktails. The fried escargot was a standout tender, and bursting with flavor. The cozy yet elegant atmosphere made for a relaxed yet refined meal. I’ll definitely return next time I’m in NYC 🗽

Great food I was impressed! This is a good option to go for a nice meal, we went for a birthday! We had the restaurant week menu, which had more items than the menu online which was a nice surprise. We ordered the charcuterie and the burrata salad, they accidentally brought us the soup instead of the burrata but they were quick to fix it. The burrata was melt in your mouth, and the charcuterie was different than I expected since it had pate but it was really good! The coq au Riesling was great I highly recommend! The chicken was fall off the bone tender and the sauce was super flavorful. You could taste the bacon, mushrooms and onions. There wasn’t a lot of gnocchi in the dish but with 3 courses I was okay with it since it was a lot of food already. The steak frites was good, but not my favorite steak frites I have had in NYC. The fries were hot but not super crispy. The chocolate cake was the star of the meal. We loved the rich chocolate flavor with the hints of coffee. Overall a positive experience and the restaurant week was a good deal!

Had a wonderful dinner at Le Gratin in NYC. The space feels quintessentially French — warm, intimate, and effortlessly charming without trying too hard. We started with oysters, impeccably fresh and beautifully presented — clean, briny, and perfectly chilled. The endive salad with grapefruit was absolutely outstanding — that bright citrus against the gentle bitterness of the endive was beautifully balanced and refreshing. Simple, elegant, and incredibly well executed. The gratin was its own moment: deeply golden on top, bubbling and indulgent, with that perfect contrast between crisp crust and creamy interior. Comforting without feeling heavy. For mains, the calf liver was beautifully cooked — tender, flavorful, and clearly handled with care. The saucisse purée was comforting overall, and the purée itself was silky and rich. The sausage, however, felt slightly industrial and a bit dry inside — less rustic than expected. It didn’t ruin the dish, but it stood out against the otherwise thoughtful execution. Service was polished and warm. I mentioned it was someone’s birthday, and the waitress surprised us with a complimentary slice of chocolate cake — such a gracious and thoughtful touch. The music selection was also excellent — a lively mix of pop and dance on a Saturday night that added energy without ever being overwhelming. Overall, a lovely experience and absolutely worth returning for — especially that endive with grapefruit and the gratin

Everything was pretty amazing! We took advantage of the nyc restaurant week and had the 60 dollar dinner course. Every plate was an experience, I liked the uniqueness of the food. Although you have to pass through the very crowded hotel lobby? next door to get to the restroom. The staff were all very nice and was welcoming. One of the places I'll be remembering from our nyc trip!

I went to Le Gratin and once again it was such a great experience. Everything was just perfect. The food was absolutely delicious, you can truly taste the quality of the ingredients. It feels authentic and carefully prepared, not just beautiful on the plate but genuinely flavorful. The presentation is stunning, every dish looks thoughtfully crafted, thanks Chef Jules ! :) And the service really makes the difference. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming. They are attentive without being overbearing, always smiling, and it genuinely feels like they are happy to have you there. It’s always a pleasure to be served by such a warm and professional team. I’ve been several times now and I’m honestly never disappointed. It’s consistently excellent. Highly recommend!!

Absolutely dreamy! The room is gorgeous and transporting! They nailed the lighting -- like the magical, flattering golden light in Paris. The aethestics of the restaurant and the way it is situated in the stunning Beekman hotel is all beyond. A mini vacation! The long walk from the table to the WC was as thrilling as the meal (very!). We were three people and enjoyed all of our dishes. The endive salad was especially pleasing. We had expected the Boulud standard we have enjoyed at his other restaurants and were not disappointed. Excellent execution and presentation. The service was excellent, flawless but not hovering or stuffy. Truly delightful!

One of the best restaurants we have been to in a long time! We absolutely loved every dish we tried and we definitely ordered a lot! We even compared it to our favorite restaurants in Paris and St Maarten and this one is definitely one of our favorite French restaurants!!! Hostess was such a sweet girl and we had an amazing time. Can’t wait to come back!

The Atmosphere at Le Gratin is impressive. From the decor, lighting, and especially the staff. My wife and I felt such a warm and pleasant aura immediately as we entered. From the door, to the bar, to our table, the night was a journey. Dinner Reservations for restaurant week was our treat as this was our 4th Dinner from the Daniel Boulud group. Jack at the bar started us off with wonderful recommendations of the menu and Clara did not disappoint when it came wine service. Staff were attentive and very approachable, keeping us laughing and intrigued through our meal. Oysters, Steak Tartare, Baked Cod, the selections of fromages and even the fruit tart, were all a delicious surprise. Thank you, to the entire staff and GM Stephan Denaro for making our night memorable.

Came here for a 5pm dinner on a Saturday. We had a reservation and got there on time and our take wasn’t ready since they just open at 5pm. Service was excellent. I had leftovers, about a quarter of the burger and fries. It came with pork belly which i asked to be on the side and also ate later. The burger was delicious but messy. Came with lettuce, tomato, cheese and aioli. Since i had the French onion soup which was very delicious, that filled me quite a bit. I tasted the crème dessert which was like a crème brûlée without the top being charred. The space was exactly like French bistro. The bar area isn’t large and by the time we left at 7pm there was about 5 people waiting and ask the tables were occupied. I will say they are quite pricey but their restaurant week menu made it somewhat affordable. My items were only on the regular menu.

Le Gratin – A Perfect Lunch Spot I went to Le Gratin for lunch and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent—attentive without being intrusive—and the food was absolutely delicious, classic and comforting with beautiful execution. What stood out most was how quiet and relaxed the dining room felt, which made it the perfect place to truly catch up with a friend without distractions. The atmosphere was elegant yet welcoming, and everything flowed seamlessly. A lovely lunch experience and a place I’d happily return to.

It’s rare for me to be blown away by a French restaurant these days. There’s a lot of great ones out there. I was blown away by a meal at Le Gratin. Every aspect of the meal was the best of the best. The cheese plate, the chicken, my wife’s steak. Easily worth the visit. Service was a bit of a miss for us. Our waiter didn’t take drink orders and didn’t give us any info on the cheeses served, but that can largely be forgiven when the food is that good.

not bad french restaurant in fidi. i think mostly everything was done very well and the ambiance was the show stopper. the salade verte was light, although a little underdressed and i could’ve done with a different cheese. the french onion soup was delightful. the moules frites were okay — i had so many sandy mussels. the crème caramele was fantastic!

Chef Daniel’s casual French bistro. The food was delicious. The ingredients were fresh, the seasoning perfectly balanced, and nothing felt overly heavy or pretentious. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was smooth from start to finish. t The atmosphere is warm, relaxed, and charming without trying too hard. It has that perfect balance between casual comfort and a touch of refined French elegance.

Loved the French feel of everything here from the interior to the authentic menu to the service. Quenelle is a must have, as well as the chou faci special (which was divine). Great wine selection. Don’t sleep on the creme caramel too.

Such a nice experience! And surprisingly, they had RW on a Saturday?!!!! Loved their escargots but I forgot to take a picture. We also loved the sea bream and the baked cod ❤️ I felt a bit bad yesterday, it took me forever to finish my dish 😂 probably because I had a headache so eating super slowly, lol. But they were so kind and let us continue eating at the bar 🥹, and the bartender even helped us get some nice photos! 🥹🥹🥹 It was a really wonderful place to celebrate my friend’s new chapter as she starts her PhD! 🥹🥹

We saw Le Gratin listed on NYC’s Summer Restaurant Week and decided to visit. Every dish was wonderfully crafted and beautifully presented. The escargot was phenomenal with a wonderful mix of herbs that made each bite soar. All our entrees were great as well. The Sea Bream was a very unique fish, the steak was perfectly charred, and the cod had a very nice citrus/acid note on it. The sommelier was also incredibly knowledgeable and kind. The restroom is quite a distance away from the dining room, but you do get to go through the stunning restaurant/hotel lobby next door!

5 Beekman Street, Downtown Manhattan (in The Beekman Hotel) We visited Le Gratin during Restaurant Week and opted for the $60 three‑course dinner—an absolute steal for the quality and ambiance. We paid $60 each—3/4? I think you meant $60 for three‑quarter meals, but it felt fully satisfying! For starters, I had the soup of the day, which was beautifully prepared—warm, flavorful, and a perfect opener. For my entrée, I chose the Dorado (grilled sea bream in beurre blanc sauce), which was delicate, buttery, and paired perfectly with rice pilaf. Finally, dessert was a classic crème caramel (caramel pudding)—silky and just sweet enough to round off the meal. An interesting tidbit: the restaurant sits in the Beekman Hotel, built in 1883, and features a stunning atrium with wrought‑iron balconies—stepping inside feels like time‑traveling to 19th‑century Paris . Highlight summary: • Cuisine & service: Warm, lively, Lyonnais‑inspired menu, connecting you to Chef Daniel Boulud’s hometown of Lyon . • Menu quality: During Restaurant Week, the three‑course dinner at $60 included soup du jour, a Dorado-style entrée, and crème caramel . • Unique atmosphere: Located inside a historic hotel from 1883, the dining room’s architecture and decor evoke old‑world charm and elegance . Overall, Le Gratin delivers soulful, refined French cooking in a gorgeous, storied setting—an excellent place for both Restaurant Week treats and memorable evenings.

Another very solid offering from Daniel Boulud. I came to El Gratin for Restaurant Week and had a great time. The space is beautiful and the service was top notch throughout. I started with the soup of the day, a gazpacho that was refined and full of bright summer flavor. For the main, I went with the steak frites. Normally I’d opt for something a bit more adventurous, but I was curious to see what he’d do with a simple French classic—and it hit the mark. The beef was excellent, and the caramelized onion sauce added a rich, satisfying depth. Finished with a lovely chocolate cake and left feeling very happy. All in all, a great experience.

Absolutely beautiful spot for our anniversary dinner! The fixtures, lighting, furniture all come together for a seamless & pleasing French bistro experience. The mixologist served up top-notch drinks, including a delicious take on an Old Fashioned. We started with an amazing beet salad with pistachios & goat cheese dressing. The poulet fermier (half a rotisseire chicken) may be the best chicken dish we've had in years, and it was paired with DB's Mother's potato gratin that was heavenly. We also had their steak frites, and the meat was cooked absolutely perfectly. We topped off the meal with an order of profiteroles (with Gianduja Ice cream & chocolate hazelnut) that was a delight to the senses. Service was outstanding throughout. Daniel Boulud has struck gold here and Le Gratin is one of our very top picks of NYC restaurants. Bravo!

Absolutely perfect! I have been there for Thanksgiving and besides the amazing surprise of having the Chef in person opening the door for me on his way out 🙀 everything was absolutely perfect! They have Gluten Free and Dairy Free options so my kid was able to order gluten free bread, dairy free salads and steak with separate dressings and a choices of sorbet!!! Super excited to share this with everyone in need of options without losing the quality! The staff was incredibly professional and helpful in any way!!! Highly recommended!!! I will definitely go back and try more dishes!!! Enjoy

The restaurant is beautiful! The service is friendly. The food and dessert was just okay for me. The escargot was yummy. The duck was good. For the price of the food, I thought the quality would be better. The ambiance is pretty vibrant. This is a nice food option in the area. I would recommend this place. The prices are high but worth checking out still because of the ambiance and the vibe!

So, Le Gratin was alright. I love the Beekman Hotel and Temple Court and this is adjacent to Temple Court. This is a straightforward French Bistro and executed everything very competently. Everything was good, uniformly rich and not great which is what I was really expecting. I had the onion soup which I finished half of and the mussels. The mussels were okay hence the review. The other person in my party had escargot and chicken and they were likewise both good but less than we were expecting from a Boulud restaurant. One thing is they have an awesome room!!! This all being said, if you’re in the mood for French Bistro food, this is the one in lower Manhattan.

Le Gratin has an elegant atmosphere with a lovely interior design that makes you want to linger. The food was delicious, however the service could use some polish. Our waiter was sometimes impatient, even raising his voice at one point, which detracted from the upscale ambiance during our birthday celebration. Additionally, there is an old leak on the ceiling that should be repaired to fully complement the sophisticated style of the restaurant. Overall we enjoyed Le Gratin, but small details regarding staff demeanor and maintenance could be addressed to match the restaurant’s refined aesthetics.

The service was ok but not too warm. The food is overall comfortable but not impressive Love the chicken liver, duck confit and its lentil base. The soup is good but lack of flavor

Very charming place! The hostess is very sweet. The service was fantastic. Everyone is very polite, although a bit slow paced in general. The Scrabbled eggs with truffle were very tasty. Just keep in mind that because this is a French restaurant, these are not your typical hard scrabbled eggs; they are soft and a bit runny... Reminder me of polenta in texture. If you're ok with that, you'll like the flavor. The omelette was good. The French toast brioche was excellent if you're opting for something sweet. Loved my coffee.

Great food, decent service. I've been here a few times now and it's safe to say dinner service is a bit stronger. Lunch was lovely but service was painfully slow. Excellent wine selection (btg and bottle) food solid too.

Great spot for classic French comfort in FiDi—Le Gratin delivers soulful Lyonnais vibes from Daniel Boulud. The food was excellent: steak tartare was fresh and perfectly seasoned, French onion soup rich and cheesy (top-tier), and DB's Mother's Potato Gratin was creamy, indulgent heaven. Tried the quenelle de brochet too—light yet flavorful. Service was friendly but a tad slow when busy, and the room is warm and bistro-chic with marble and wood, though it felt a bit noisy/crowded. Solid for a hearty French meal downtown!

Beautiful french bistro feel with delicious food and good service. Beef tartare was presented unmixed and the server asked if we wanted it mixed. She went to a side bar to mix, wish she would have done it table side. The meat was tender and i liked the flavor but another at our table felt it was to heavy on mustard and too tangy. Bread was perfection, so crispy on the outside and warm and soft inside. Quiche was beautifully done, dark green from the spinach and very flavorful. Not what I am used to for quiche, it was not light and creamy but more dense, not at all bad just different. The omelette was a bit of a disappointment for the guest who ordered it. Was served open faced with some greens on top. We ordered it with ham and a couple of pieces of ham were laid on top. It looked beautiful and perhaps this is a traditional French way to serve an omelette but it was more like a plain omelette with toppings. Beet salad was great. Dressed well and the pistachios added the perfect texture. The profiterole was a little disappointing. It was very dark, I’ve never had one baked as much as this. It was still light and airy on the inside but for me was verging on burnt on the outside. The service was friendly and attentive and the courses were well spaced. I would like to come back to try more items from the menu.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with the bread at the beginning. We had the Restaurant Week dinner course, and the soup was really good. Overall, everything tasted great. Since it was a birthday celebration, they decorated the dessert with a "Happy Birthday" chocolate even added a candle, which was a very thoughtful touch.

Le Gratin is a great French restaurant in downtown NY. I love the aesthetic and feel of the restaurant- it's a very charming white tablecloth French bistro vibe. The smoked salmon appetizer was a light and delicious start (although it might be seasonal because I no longer see it on the menu.) For our mains we got the duck breast which was super tender and flavorful, the roasted chicken which was juicy and came with an amazing gravy, and a white fish that was good but not super memorable. The fresh bread and butter and side of fries were perfect, the potato gratin was good but definitely under salted and under seasoned, and the green beans were sadly overcooked. I recommend the citrus profiterole and chocolate mousse for dessert. Drinks here are on the pricier end at $20 a cocktail, but overall great food and service.

Food top notch, friendly service (a bit understaffed, we sometimes had to wait for our waiter a bit to reorder something). Great next door bar (Temple Court) for pre-dinner drinks.

After some spectacular weekend adventures, we decided on Le Gratin for brunch. This is the signature restaurant of chef Daniel Boulud, located in the Tribeca area of Manhattan. Upon entering one is transported to old France with notable and opulent appointments throughout the space. The open dining room is flanked by gorgeous wood and tile work and adorned with gorgeous ambient lighting throughout. We were seated in a corner booth that provided an entrancing view of the entire space. We began our meal with an order of the Escargot Gratines Au Persil and the Francine Salad. The Escargot were prepared with ample garlic and butter and served simmering with crusty bread as an accompaniment. The salad was a fresh and beautiful mix of frisee, lettuce, thinly shaved carrot, radish and onion, topped with a beautiful housemaid white cheese. Both were delectable starters to what would be a spectacular lunch. For our main courses we selected the Steak Frites and the Branzino. The steak was cooked to medium perfection, tender, juicy and well-seasoned and was accompanied by a generous portion of crispy french fries. The Branzino fillet was perfectly cooked, flaky and moist, bathed in a sinfully delicious beurre-blanc, probably the best version I have tasted and accompanied by a delicately flavored rice pilaf studded with minced zucchini. Craving a bit more green, we also ordered the Haricots Verts a la Ciboule, a green bean dish with an absolutely delightful scallion butter. We finished our meal with the Apple Tart Tatin. The soft apple caramel atop a luscious cookie, served with Rum Raisin Ice Cream were a delicious denouement!! Le Gratin has pretty big boots to fill with chef Daniel Boulud at the helm, and I believe it does so effortlessly! I highly recommend it for French food aficionados!!!

The main dishes are great. Seasoning and sauce on both the chicken and the fish was awesome. I didnt like the flavor of their escorgot so much. The appetizers and desserts are just mediocre to below average for a fine dining restaurant. The service was just ok, not too welcoming but wasn't rude either.

Came here to celebrate and treat myself to a nice dinner. My bartender Jon, made my whole experience. He was so engaging, friendly and attentive. I mean we talked almost the entire time about everything it seemed. He made great recommendations for drinks and food wine being in the industry we just had so much in common. Yes the place was upscale and fancy and French, but Jon made me feel very hospitable and comfortable. Honestly I wasn’t completely blown away by the food, but I enjoyed it for what French cooking is known for. I know they love butter, and while I also love butter I felt my rainbow trout was swimming in it and there was just too many almonds. I wanted to really taste more of the fish because it was cooked so well. But I did enjoy the cocktails a lot! Overall I had a pleasant experience mainly because the service was really great and that elevated my time there. Thanks Jon 😁

I visited Le Gratin with high expectations. Having visited Bar Boulud and Boulud Sud, I expected Le Gratin to deliver the same culinary punch. Le Gratin however, delivered a limp hit rather than a confident punch if service and flavor. Our server though pleasant knew little about the ingredients and overall, the food just didn't impress me. Except the Quenelle - that was breathtaking. The rest were effortlessly forgettable.

I was there 3rd day of opening. I went to the Beekman hotel by accident actually. They share an entrance and bathroom. The restaurant was beautiful by design. Atmosphere and service great. However, I was pretty disappointed by the food. I was expecting phenomenal Lyonnaise dishes and the quenelle fell short. The steak was good but the sole, I felt, didn’t taste up to par. The apps were also just ok in my opinion. The potatoes gratin was the best and in my opinion probably the only thing worth getting. Dessert: creme caramel was good and choux was ordinary. Understand that it is a casual restaurant but I might not come back. The chef was there and selectively dropped by tables.

T
Thomas Evans

Ordinary and vastly overpriced. I have lived in Paris, so when I was traveling through New York on Christmas Eve I thought I would treat myself to a nice French meal. I left disappointed. The highlight was the scallop crudo to start which was delicious. The sommelier also recommended a nice wine but all of the wines were obscenely overpriced, probably marked up 3x. I was really looking forward to the Dover sole for dinner, expecting it to come whole and sizzling to the table. But it was tepid! It must have been reheated and poorly at that. Then I had apple tart for dessert. A typical safe French dish I thought. But again it was lukewarm. Only the top layer had been heated. Most was cold and raw apples with a bit of apple sauce in the middle and bland pastry. I didn’t bother eating it. Given how expensive this meal was it was exceptionally poor value.

After reading many positive reviews, I went to Le Gratin with very high expectations. First of all, I have to say: the ambiance is truly stunning. A very chic, wonderful place. You immediately feel like you're in France. After we were seated relatively quickly, we were placed very close to the cold door, which was a bit of a shame since I had made a reservation three weeks in advance, but we weren't going to be too picky about that. The waiter we had was very friendly and served us promptly at the beginning. However, after we took a few extra minutes to choose our wine, he sent over a sommelier who then helped us with our selection. After that—I can't tell you why—the waiter showed little to no interest in us anymore. We had the three-course menu, which was delicious. When our glasses were empty for the first time, I had to call the waiter over, who hadn't noticed for several minutes, so he could refill them. He apparently didn't even realize that we had ordered a bottle of wine that was already in a cooler and asked me which wine by the glass we wanted. Then he poured the rest of the bottle, took it away, and didn't even think to refill our glasses again on his own. When we finished dessert, he put the bill on the table without even asking if we wanted anything else to drink or perhaps a coffee. We weren't even sure if our bottle of wine, which was in a cooler, was actually empty. You could hardly feel less welcome, which is a real shame because we actually enjoyed the ambiance and the food very much. To then expect a tip after this kind of service is frankly quite cheeky. I gave a $10 tip out of politeness. All in all, a great restaurant, but terrible service that evening. For over $250, I expect something completely different.

I went to Le Gratin on 2/26 for a business dinner with a potential client. For most of the evening, the experience was strong. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the beverages were well-executed. The overall atmosphere made it an easy place to host a professional dinner, and up until the end of the meal, I would have considered it a reliable option for future meetings. The issue arose after we finished dinner. The restroom is not located within the restaurant itself but inside the neighboring hotel. Getting there requires passing through a lounge and down a flight of stairs. It’s inconvenient, but manageable. The real problem is the hotel security presence in that area. While my colleague was in the restroom, I waited outside in the hallway. The space was empty. No one was being disturbed. Nonetheless, an extremely aggressive security guard approached me and immediately began chastising me for standing there. He insisted that I needed to be a hotel guest to be in that area. I explained that I had just finished dinner at Le Gratin and was waiting for my colleague. His tone and posture were confrontational and disproportionate to the situation. Fortunately, another security staff member intervened. He was professional, assessed the situation appropriately, and de-escalated it. He acknowledged that I had been dining at the restaurant, walked me back upstairs, shook my hand, and apologized for the interaction. That professionalism was appreciated. However, the damage was done. Ending a business dinner with an unnecessary confrontation leaves a lasting impression, and not a good one. I should not have to worry about being harassed simply for using or waiting near the restroom associated with a restaurant I just patronized. It creates friction where there should be none. It’s unfortunate because I did enjoy the restaurant itself. But I do not see myself returning if it means risking another encounter like that. A strong dining experience should not unravel at the finish line.

What a disappointment! For such a big name as D Boulud I expected more.. I orded escargot, all there was on the plate was mushrooms My steak was un eatable, and I ordered it rare. The saving grace is that the waiter was very accommodating and pleasant..

Starters: - Escargot: savoury and pleasant; - Marinated makerel: the marinade made the texture of the fish rather mushy and unpleasant to eat. Garnish is nice. Mains: - Sauage and mash: sausage is delicious, although on the salty side. Mash is creamy, but also salty. - Baked cod with beans stew: cod is well cooked and seasoned. However the beans stew is way too salty. The salt just overpowered the natural flavours of the beans and vegetables, which made the dish a bit sad to taste. The beans would have otherwise complemented the fish very well. What a shame. Dessert: - Tarte tartin: in my opinion it shouldn't be called a tarte tartin the way it was dished... It's oversweetend stewed apple mush sat on top of a crumbly biscuit, served with some bland cream. The natural sweetness and tartness of the apple is lost in all the sugar. Cream didn't help anything.

Service was inexplicably horrible. I genuinely don't understand how expensive restaurants like this have such poor service. Our waiter was inattentive and had no interest in explaining or recommending anything off the menu. Our water glasses were never filled once; we refilled our glasses as our waiter walked by us. We were seated at a smaller table, so the dishes cluttered the table; we stacked and cleared our own table. Two waiters walked by, and we stopped a busser to remove the empty llayes. The bussers were great, though, and brought us more water when we asked; they were far more attentive than our waiter. Additionally, the sommelier stopped by our table but realized he was at the wrong table and abruptly walked away when we told him he was at the wrong table. The hostess at the front was pleasant; the decor of the restaurant nice. The food was great, and this would've been a nice meal and a great experience if there were even a modicum of hospitality.

One of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had in years. Hard pass. I used to bring people here and will not step a foot here anymore. We were done with the desserts for their four-course menu in one hour. The place became very commercial and has no soul. The size of each course was meant for a pigeon, not a human. Ordering uber eats now to have a real dinner. The sommelier was great and the wine was really good.

This is from 5/16/23. My wife took me here for my birthday. This is not your typical experience but this did happen to us. Usually at an upscale place like this you receive the food you order. I don’t know whose fault it was but they never cooked our food. The waiter was clearly avoiding us after some time. After waiting two hours we asked to speak to the manager , Thomas. He apologized about the situation and did his best to make up for the strange reason why our food never made it to us. I will say the restaurant did make up for the whole experience in the end . They comped our whole dinner which was very nice. We were absolutely starving. We arrived hungry but then had to wait 2+ hours to actually eat. The manager gave me his card and said to call him next time we came. I have never returned here and probably never will. I did appreciate what the manager did. I have never experienced the lackluster communication between waiters and cooks or maybe it was the waiter’s fault ??? I guess we will never know. This was really the most bizarre experience I have had especially at an upscale restaurant. The food is very good here. My rating is low because of the freak experience I had here not because the food is bad . This will probably not happen to anyone else. It did happen to my wife and I.
