Best ramen I’ve had! The miso ramen I swap the pork for chicken. It was superb. Mi husband gets the Red ramen and loves it (spicy)
This place truly is home . I came here a few times already and me and my husband always come back. Junni is always so nice and hospitable. . The food is amazing and they always have a great selection. I love spending my time here on a cold winter night. Please try the octopus wasabi!!
This place rocks, especially for lunch. Great deals and delicious, deep flavors with excellent appetizers. I come here constantly for their $3-$4 onigiri when I don't know what to get for lunch, and I get their TanTan Ramen when I'm craving a big portion for the same price as a tiny salad nearby. The back area is a nice quiet spot for lunch and the staff are attentive and smiley. Always a pleasure!
I’ve been coming to Nishida Sho-ten on 49th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue for the past 13 years, and it’s still one of my absolute favorite spots in New York City. I’ve been to a lot of ramen places over the years, but this one easily ranks in my top three. It has that cozy, comforting vibe that feels like home, and the food is consistently amazing. The portions are generous, the flavors are rich, and the broths — whether you go with pork, chicken, or one of their specialties — are always deep, hearty, and full of soul. Everything on the menu is great, but a few of my personal favorites are the Black Kakuni Ramen - is one of my long-time favorites — the pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender, the black garlic oil adds such incredible depth, and the broth is so flavorful you’ll want to drink every drop. You can choose between wavy or straight noodles, but I’m partial to the wavy ones — they hold the broth perfectly. Sometimes, I even order an extra serving of noodles because it’s just that good! The White Kakuni Ramen, the Miso Ramen! ( love it!) and Tan-tan Ramen are also fantastic! Tan-tan Ramen, which has the perfect spicy kick and that yummy ground pork with the bean sprouts. My latest obsession is their seasonal special, the Mole Miso Ramen. I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical at first, but after the first few bites — I was hooked. The flavors are bold, rich, and unique — it’s a surprising but perfect blend that works beautifully in a ramen bowl. The service is just as wonderful as the food. Beverly, one of the longtime servers, is incredibly friendly and always makes everyone feel welcome. She’s been there for years, and her recommendations never miss. Over the years, I’ve met people from all over — Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, even visitors from other cities and countries — who make the trip just to eat here. Once you try it, you’ll understand why. Nishida Sho-ten has a loyal community of regulars for a reason — this place is comforting, consistent, and absolutely delicious. Hands down, one of the best ramen restaurants in NYC. Highly, highly recommended!
Great ramen spot 🍜 A small, cozy, and authentic place — be ready that it’s quite tiny, but that’s exactly what creates its charm and vibe. We got lucky to find a table on a Sunday evening, which says a lot. The service was very welcoming, and the ramen was excellent. I’m not a fan of spicy food, so I asked to tone it down and they happily adjusted it without any fuss. Highly enjoyable experience — thank you! 😊
I got the white ramen and added the house chili oil which was yum. I went alone during work lunchtime and it was perfect for the winter - they have a counter you can sit on and some general seating. Would go again to try the black ramen which looked amazing. Seems they usher people in and out kind of quickly but all in all good real ramen spot.
Something to keep in mind before you go in, the woman who runs the place can be intense but once seated she will be super attentive to all customers. Upon walking in I didn't have to wait too long before I was seated (about 5-7 minutes). As soon as I was seated I was given my water which was nice and they refill your cup throughout your stat. Ordered the White Ramen, you can choose between thin and wavy noodles and theres a lunch special where you can get an appetizer on the side. Waited about 10 mins for my food but it was incredibly worth it. Broth was incredibly delicious and savory, the bits of onion mixed in the broth add so much depth each time you take a sip. It comes with 2 pieces of pork that are quite large. They were super juicy and tender. I was surprised by how much meat it came with. I’m used to it being 2 skinny strips of pork. The egg was more delicious than most eggs in ramen. Noodles were perfect, no complaints. Left very satisfied and will be back again for lunch.
Not an easy find since the google doesn’t pick up “ramen” from the shop name (lol). A pretty good ramen & drink place with unique atmosphere and lots of drink & appetizers choices. Ordered two appetizers and two ramens, ramen is especially fulfilling. - Appetizers: A Fried Corn is especially delicious! Not sure if it’s always on the menu, but please bring it back if not. - Ramen: Red Ramen is definitely on the spicy side, make sure you can handle spices first. Black Ramen seems to be Tonkutsu soup base with garlic oil (quite a lot of garlic oil), the soup is dense but delicious!
Nishida Sho-ten is a hidden treasure for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine. The moment you step inside, you're transported—everything from the minimalist decor to the warm, welcoming service sets the tone for a genuine and intimate dining experience. The menu is a celebration of simplicity and quality. Every dish is thoughtfully prepared, with fresh ingredients and precise technique. Their ramen is rich and flavorful, with a depth that speaks to hours of careful preparation. The broth is perfectly balanced, the noodles have just the right texture, and the toppings are always fresh and complementary. Other offerings, like their donburi or small plates, are equally satisfying and beautifully presented. Nishida Sho-ten isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to savor. It’s clear that passion and tradition drive every aspect of this restaurant, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a true taste of Japan.
Been craving ramen for a bit now and this hit the spot big time! I went with the pork gyoza to start off and they were delicious! They were crispy on the bottom and packed a ton of flavor. For my meal I got the tan tan ramen and it was fantastic! It had an excellent amount of spice and a decent amount of pork. The service was also great! The ladies behind the counter kept our drinks filled and also checked with the chefs to make sure that a meal didn’t have shellfish in it for my fiancé. I definitely plan on coming back here when I get my ramen cravings again!
This place was bustling on a Thursday evening in January. The ramen was quite good. You get to choose thin (straight) or wavy noodles. The broth was not too salty but flavorful. All the ingredients were very nice, a bit heavy on the scallions perhaps. Would definitely come again, seating is a bit cramped, but what place isn’t in Manhattan.. ~$20 for a bowl after 20% tip. The staff is quite efficient, professional, and kind.

This is the most perfect spot for a quiet late night dinner. I had a late dinner on a rainy night and the entire ambiance was perfect. The pho is delicious.

Well if you l ow me you will understand that hen I saw WOW !! Quality top notch small and personable.. should not put this out to keep it to myself. It just can’t.
A good ramen spot that's open nice and late! I was there at 1am on a Thursday night and the restaurant was pretty lively! The atmosphere is warm and cozy (I sat at the bar), and the service was great too. As for the food, I got the black garlic ramen with thin noodles. The broth was definitely the star of the show. It was rich and creamy, and the distinct flavors of garlic and pork melded together to create a wonderful synergy. I really liked the broth! The noodles were good too, with the signature chew that good ramen noodles are known for. Unfortunately the pork chashu was tougher to chew than I would've liked, but at least it had great flavor. I do also wish they put another piece of bok choy in the bowl, as I thought it was a great addition. The price of the bowl wasn't bad either relative to other ramen spots in nyc ($17 for the black ramen as of this review). Also, as someone who LOVES bidets, I was really surprised to see one in the bathroom, they're super rare in nyc! I would recommend this spot if you love late night food. Also, If you're like me and have zero self control there's a pizza place around the corner open late where you can satisfy a completely different craving afterwards... (and then I got Popeyes even after the pizza... my cardiologist is gonna kill me! 😭)
This cozy traditional ramen shop has been in the neighborhood for decades. I love the intimate traditional Japanese ramen and shop vibe. Their ramen is amazing with rich delicious broth and chewy fresh noodles. I particularly love the white ramen with wavy noodles (thick). It has been hard to find this type of ramen place with this traditional vibe and ramen these days. They also have a number of other Japanese bar food menu.

Overall, a cute place with nice decor and attentive service. The ramen was just okay, nothing special but not bad either. You're able to pick between straight and wavy noodles.

Craving ramen late night? This is the place to go! Location: It is located along 49th street. There few seating inside with bar seating. The interior has a Japanese vibe. Service: they are super nice. We were seating at the bar first but when the table is open they moved us. Food: This is honest review, the ramen noodles was great you can choose from thin and wavy. I chose wavy. But the broth was bland, we even asked for soy sauce because it was lacking flavor. The broth has that ramen broth consistency but me and my friend both thought that there is not flavor. BLACK RAMEN: this is what I got, again the broth does not have too much flavor. The noodles are well cooked and the pork was soft. RED RAMEN: same as the black but spicy. Even it is spicy the broth is lacking flavor. DUMPLING: the pork inside is juicy and delicious, I wish the broth on the ramen was the same. Price rating: 7/10. It was a typical ramen price. I will come back and try again. Hopefully they will add more seasoning to the ramen.

Fine ramen, think the 4.4 rating here is very generous. Ordered the white and black ramen, broth on each was ok but didn’t stand out in any way. The pork was unfortunately tough, and I personally didn’t enjoy so much raw diced onion as a topping. Karaage was average as well. Service is very nice though, and I loved the vibe inside.
I am very disappointed with the delivery order I received. I ordered the chicken ramen and the noodles were the wrong kind, gave little chicken and there was hardly any broth which wasn't hot to to…
