Opinions de One White Street New York
I was very excited when One White Street opened in my neighborhood. The young lady host was very helpful when my husband went to the restaurant and reserved a table for us at the downstairs causal side of the restaurant. We sat in the high table in the outdoor hut. It was a cold night and the heated lamp kept us just warm enough. The menu was small and the description didn’t do justice to the high quality of the ingredients and deliciousness of the dishes we had. We started with the seasonal veggies with hummus. The carrots, radish and lettuce were farm fresh. The hummus was full of flavor. Then we had crudo with garam masala and sesame crackers. Our favorite starter was the foie gras paired with a buttery Parker house roll. A little salad on the plate cut the richness of the dish. Our last dish was the duck. The dish came in two plates. A tasty duck breast perfectly cooked with crunchy skin on one plate. Another plate held creamy mashed potatoes with crispy duck confit on top and sprinkled with matchstick fries. All the portions were generous. Service was professional and helpful! Good wine list. Can’t wait to try the Upstair Tasting menu! My photos of the dishes were a bit dark because of the lighting in the outdoor hut.
One White Street truly offers a phenomenal dining experience from start to finish. The moment you step inside, you're enveloped in an atmosphere that perfectly captures that cute and cozy New York City charm. It's the kind of place where every detail contributes to a memorable and incredibly enjoyable evening. The food here is undeniably a highlight. You can immediately tell they are committed to using top-notch, incredibly fresh ingredients. The dishes are wonderfully light and fresh, offering a delightful palate experience that really lets the quality of the produce shine through. The service was also good, contributing to a smooth and pleasant meal. My only slight reservation is the pricing; I do feel that the prices are a bit higher than what you might find at comparable restaurants in Manhattan. Even with a Michelin star restaurant I feel like they are one step higher than other restaurants we love in the city. However, putting that aside, almost everything else about One White Street is stellar, easily ranking above 8.5 out of 10.
I went to One White Street for the tasting menu with a few girlfriends to celebrate my birthday and everything was exceptional! The ambiance was extremely unique and beautiful - you can tell everything in this establishment is so well thought out. The service was incredible - everyone was super friendly and attentive. I also appreciated the small details such as having new cutlery and plates for every course. The presentation of every dish was so beautiful, the ingredients were super fresh, and tasted amazing! Would highly recommend to anyone.
Love the food (great burger)- great service. Giving the atmosphere 4/5 because the restaurant is vertically stacked (several floors) as opposed to larger traditional dining areas.
Had a date night with the hubby here mid week. The townhouse set up is really cozy and warm. We dined on the top floor for an early dinner and went with the ala carte menu. The cocktails were delicious (really enjoyed the tequila based 1). I found the fennel salad to be fine, even though that's a mainstay on the menu & also came recommended. The razor clam pasta was really flavorful, we both loved it & wanted another for dessert :) The duck was generally cooked well but we prefer the skin to be cooked through (seared a bit more). I wouldn't order it again. Service was very attentive - had nice chats & suggestions from Anna & Mirko. Dessert ($20) was a rhubarb pavlova + ice cream that was surprisingly very good! Less pavlova and more balanced with the ice cream - really well done. Since the menu is seasonal/changes often, would come back for another dine. And to try the burger which looked incredible.
We had a dinner for two with my son. 1 White is a very fine restaurant with simple interior, in Tribeca, New York City Downtown. 1 White has a Michelin * 2024. A small building that has open kitchens on every floor and offer seating at every floor, also offers street patio seating at the enterance floor. Great staff welcomed and served us. Perfect attention to details Great wine selection, offering a very wide quality and price range. The cuisine is also wine friendly. 1 White offers a tasting menu and wine pairing option. We went to alacarte menu. We shared shaved fennel salad with blue cheese, Tagliatelle with red shrimps, a very fine hamburger, Roasted pork collar, Black forest cake and Apricot-Raspberry tart. We had a bottle of French Crozes-Hermitage wine. Great people, great food, that was a very enjoyable experience. Very much recommended.
I’ve never been a big fan of tasting menus, but the one upstairs at One White Street delivered. Everything was so flavorful - our favorite dishes were the sunchoke, monkfish, gnocchi, and the sorbet. We will definitely be back and also want to try downstairs, which seems perfect for drinks and individual meals.
Really loved it. We did the a la carte menu and dined outside. We arrived at 5 on a Saturday as a walk in and we’re quickly seated. The service and servers were all really exceptional and the food no cocktails were delicious. Really standouts were the Parker House Rolls that came with the fois mousse and the gnocchi. Soooooo dreamy. Loved it and can’t wait to go back. So excited to have them in the neighborhood!
One of the best meals/experiences that I’ve had. Excellent food, presentation, as well as service and knowledge of the menus. I loved the vibe of this place- It’s set in a historic townhome that has been beautifully renovated. Very smart/casual but upscale feel. Absolutely recommend
They killed it. The tomato carpaccio are you kidding 🔥🔥. Corn stuffed pasta, to die for. 1ws cheeseburger, best burger I’ve had in a long time. The service was fantastic, everyone on staff was so kind, considerate, attentitive to detail. The atmosphere was very quaint and wholesome. I would 10/10 recommend and go again
Visited for my birthday. Had a wonderful dinner at the bar. Loved the super casual nature and atmosphere of the first floor. Started with the beef tartar which was good. Then I had the honey roasted duck! This is one of the best ducks I've had. My mom had the beef tenderloin which was also very good. I ended the night with the chocolate ganache. Great meal all around, I'd come back for sure!
Came here for my fiancé’s birthday, and the whole experience — from first interactions with the maître d’ to goodbyes — were unparalleled. We sat at the chef’s counter and enjoyed banter with the chefs! The food is outstanding: extremely fresh and flavorful, and presented like art. Expertly curated wine list and interesting cocktails. We found the staff to be warm, friendly, and attentive. Shout out to our server, Kevin! The ambiance is both inviting and unique, in the way you can’t help but feel as if you’re dining in a friends living room. Pro Tip: don’t skip on Eileen’s “crouton” rolls; they’re much more akin to a buttery, flaky croissant, and melt in your mouth!
The service instantly knew exactly what we were there for. THE BURGER! Absolutely blew my mind. Thanks to our waiter I also felt so comfortable and our time there short and sweet (the gentleman with glasses). Perfect in-and-out experience😁
What a wonderful way to spend our pre-city hall wedding! The whole team at One White Street provided an exceptional experience and the food was delightful. There are few places in New York City, despite the wealth of dining options we get to enjoy, where I immediately would want to return. We shall be back for more tasty bites sooner than later. One White Street is not to be missed!
One White Street is the newest kid on the block in Tribeca, serving mouth-watering classic dishes with a twist. Chilled foie gras. Shaved Fennel Salad with Candied Pistachio.Stuffed chicken breast Saltimbocca. The Baby Gem Lettuce and the Summer Vegetables are must-have items. Do not leave without having The Warm Chamomile Madeleines. Talk to the Sommelier about their extensive wine🍇list; You will be pleasantly surprised.❤️❤️❤️
Every dish at One White Street was extremely well done - we had absolutely no complaints. The potatoes were amazingly crispy and paired with a unique and tasty green sauce. The snap peas were so fresh they popped in your mouth, and the steak was just perfectly done. This is perfect for a lovely, sit-down dinner with good conversation and company. Every dish was a delight!
Amazing ambiance and staff. A special shout out to our server Kevin and the sommelier Alicia. The staff was attentive and personable through out the entire restaurant. The food was amazing with the two opening courses really stealing the show. The cocktails were crafted to perfection as well. Highly recommend and looking forward to returning.
By far one of the best restaurants we’ve enjoyed in NY ever!! They checked every box. The burger is an absolute must. Wine selection was so vast. Service was impeccable. Sam waited on us and was extremely knowledgeable, attentive and professional. Everyone else was great. It was run like a well oiled ship. Thank you again for making our experience everything we had hoped for. You now have another lifetime customer. See you in the spring!!
Delightful dinner, surprising combinations, unique flavors. Great service, ambience and food. Linda, the hostess, made our night with her jokes and stories. Food was great, I was very skeptical about the chamomile strawberry cake and since all the staff raved about it, we ordered and it was phenomenal. We liked the broccoli salad, burger and squash pasta. Mushroom was ok. Overall great night.
One White St. has been on my list since it opened, so when we saw an opening on resy we jumped on it. We did the tasting menu, which I thought was a bit pricey ($168) given the quantity and quality of food to be honest, but overall it was an enjoyable experience. The atmosphere upstairs where the tasting menu diners sit is cozy with a cool vibe - perfect for an intimate dinner. The service was very friendly throughout. There were a couple of dishes that stood out to me in particular: the foie gras served with warm, pull apart bread, the corn cavateli, and both dessert options were excellent. Very unique flavors in each dish. I would go back to try the a la carte menu next time.
Amazing food and welcoming environment. They turned a townhouse into a restaurant and it feels just like home. Their ingredients are from local farms and they’re healthy and delicious. We really enjoyed our Friday night dinner at this lovely place, thank you one white street! It’s hard to get a reservation for the tasting menu, but I did see some cancellation happened on the same day. So make sure to turn on Resy notifications!
I have had the opportunity to enjoy Austin’s food over the years in Paris and London, but with the doors opening at One White Street I can share his genius with everyone who lives near or visits New York. We arrived at 5:30 and were able to get a table on the first floor (casual by the plate menu). Each dish was spectacular. The monk fish, fennel salad and simple perfection of the focaccia and tomato relish are all in the running for “bite of the year”. Austin’s partner Dustin and his team made certain our wine experience matched that of the food. I cannot wait to return for the fixed menu second floor experience or just to see what One White Street comes up with next.
I went to One White Street with a few girlfriends and sat outside. It was a beautiful evening and the service was second to none. Every desire was catered to, from perfect wine pairings to accommodating my food preferences (vegetarian). I even caught Chef Austin Johnson watching my response to his menu from across the way. You KNOW someone was meant for their craft when you catch them caring about your reaction to their work. A true artist, a visionary, Chef Austin has leveled up my taste for fine food. Now, to get back there again!
Loved this place! So small and intimate and the food was delicious and had a variety of flavors. We got the foie gras, salad, crudo, and lamb neck. Everything was great! Highly recommend all these items.
Nestled within a historic 3-floor townhouse, this restaurant exudes a charming intimacy. Despite its modest size, the space never feels cramped; instead, the close quarters foster an inviting atmosphere. The soft, dim lighting adds a lovely touch to the overall ambiance. Seated at the bar counter overlooking the open kitchen, we enjoyed the spectacle of skilled hands crafting delicious dishes, evoking the feeling of attending a friend's cozy housewarming party. The food itself was authentic. The mushroom stuffed pasta, enveloped in a creamy sauce, delighted the taste buds, while the seasonal veggies retained their crisp freshness. The white chocolate dessert provided a symphony of flavors and textures - a delightful fusion of sourness, sweetness, crunch, and smoothness, culminating in a memorable culinary experience. As expected, the restaurant quickly filled up on a bustling Friday evening. I highly recommend making reservations well in advance, ideally two weeks prior, to secure a suitable time slot. Whether it's a romantic date or a fun night out with friends, this charming establishment provides the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience.
This was my first visit to the restaurant and I will certainly be coming back on my next visit to New York. This place is a gym of a neighborhood restaurant and although they offer the typical Michelin experience, it can feel like a neighborhood haunt as well. I opted for the tasting menu, which you can get anywhere in the restaurant. The space is beautiful, the staff is so polite and attentive, and the food tastes incredible. I love when a chef puts something interesting in front of me and it surprises me, and that’s what happened on this visit. I was told to stop in next time for the burger, which is clearly a favorite based on the number of them i saw being prepared. Can’t wait to go back.
Wow!!!!! One of my favorite dining experiences I’ve had in NYC. I picked this place last second by searching for Michelin star restaurants near where I was staying for evening. The tasting menu is really something special - especially accompanied with the wine pairings. We were blown away by some feature every course. More than that though, the service was spectacular. Every server was attentive and enthusiastic. The somm, in particular, is unique. A wonderful combination of deep knowledge and vibrant enthusiasm. Thank you for a great evening!
Took my husband here for our anniversary. We were sested at the chefs counter on the third floor, and ordered the tasting menu. The atmosphere is stunning and sophisticated. We both ordered the non alcoholic cocktail, “Pink Skies” (grapefruit, rose, coconut) it was absolutely delicious! We ordered two more over the 10 course dinner. All the food was amazing, each course was better than the next. Stand out dishes for us were the foie gras & smoked trout. 10/10 recommend. We watched over the counter as the a la carte chefs prepare food for guests and we knew we’d be back to try that menu as well. Can’t wait to come back!
Excellent! Finally made myself book a table downstairs right after they received their Michelin star. Loved the vibe - as everyone says, not pretentious at all, very welcoming, intimate. Every dish we got was stellar. Great cocktails. Really just a perfect date night destination, casual or for a special occasion. Looking forward to coming back with each season!
The downstairs has individual menus and upstairs has tasting menu. We went for the tasting menu and the atmosphere , service and food was great. We got to choose between two options for each courses and they were all delicious and refreshing especially smoked tomato. The only thing about the tasting menu was I wish I had more choice for the main meal. I was given a choice between chicken and ratatouille but I would choose neither and the downstairs menu looked more appealing and interesting to me. I would definitely go back to the downstairs and try individual dishes.
Lovely experience, we did the tasting menu for a special occasion and enjoyed the vegetable forward offerings, although the fish and the lamb were our favorites. The restaurant is located in a beautiful historic townhouse. This isn't stuffy fine dining though, the atmosphere was relaxed with a killer soundtrack. Would return to try the a la carte menu.
This restaurant is one of a kind. Service is Michelin level but not pretentious. Food is thoughtful, technically sound and delicious. My favorite is the fennel salad on the a la carte menu. Pastry program is excellent. Wine list is superb. We enjoyed some champagne the entire meal because it was too good to stop drinking. Can’t wait to return!
One White Street is simply one of the most chic night outs one could ask for. A subtle yet glamorous atmosphere lends way to one of the most fabulous gastronomic journey you will ever embark upon. Very accommodating to a gluten free diet!!! Big thanks to our server Sam, for their knowledge, and fine dining finesse! We started with the Rigor Hill Farm Salad, which stars radicchio, its bitter taste uplifted with the house made blood orange vin, shaved fennel, and honey goat Gouda. A definite must have for your table. Up next was the tamari glazed mushrooms. Earthy and delicately seasoned. The flavors used really complimented the umami rich mushroom. For our next round we ordered the 1WS burger. A mouthwatering premium meat burger with house made pickles and bun. Truly a showstopper. Our sides included: an order of crispy potatoes, which had such a lovely texture, the pickled garlic scapes really added an extra wow factor; and the celery root and leek gratin, which was so wholesome and really celebrated both of the vegetables natural flavors without adding too much. For dessert we were treated to a gluten free chocolate cake which was to die for, and separately a horchata ice cream served with jam. An absolutely stellar way to end the dinner. Overall it was such an amazing experience I’m already planning on going back with my whole family. The entire team at 1WS is one of the best and most accommodating I’ve experienced in the entire city. Thank you for giving me and my sister an incredible night!!!
Had a great evening at One White Street. The service was outstanding, and they gave me a perfect seat at the bar with a great view of the chefs in action. I started with a salad that was incredibly fresh and flavorful, full of green beans, cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers sourced from the restaurant’s own farm. For my main, I went with their much-hyped burger since it was my first time here—and wow, did it deliver. So beefy and juicy, and the Stilton just took it over the top. Definitely one of the best burgers in the city. Finished with the fig tart, which was an outstanding way to end the meal. Overall, a fantastic dinner. I’ll definitely be back.
We had the 5 course tasting menu with intermezzo included. Food was excellent. I really enjoyed the breads (free seconds) and Waygu beef. However, when I peaked over to the couple next to us, I wish I ordered a la carte. The burger looked so yummy. That wasn’t included in the tasting menu. Overall, I believe a la carte would have been a better value.
One White Street is truly one of Manhattan’s best-kept secrets- a cozy, charming space in Tribeca that effortlessly blends fine dining with the comfort of a home kitchen. From the moment you step in, you’re welcomed with warmth and attentiveness by a team that truly cares. The farm-to-table ethos shines through in every bite of their thoughtful, seasonal tasting menu. Tonight’s meal was nothing short of exceptional. It began with a refreshing summer squash salad- light yet complex, with delicate basil notes and a luxurious touch of smoked trout roe that transformed the humble squash noodles into something extraordinary. The house-made tagliatelle was perfectly tailored to my dietary request (no shellfish), and it had a comforting, rustic elegance that felt like something passed down through generations. It’s rare to find that kind of heart in a Michelin-starred setting. But the undeniable star of the night was the Montauk Sea Bream. This was, without exaggeration, the best fish I’ve had in the last seven months of dining across Michelin-star restaurants. Perfectly crispy skin, tender flesh, and a bed of braised fennel in a dreamy chamomile butter-accented with just the right amount of onions and herbs to lift the dish to something sublime. My compliments to the chef, this was a true masterpiece. The American Wagyu followed, and it was a worthy second favorite. Meltingly tender, deeply flavorful, and beautifully balanced with fresh spinach, scallions, and herbs. Every element on the plate had purpose and polish. One White Street delivers everything you’d want from a Michelin-starred experience and more: precision, creativity, and soul. Highly recommended for anyone seeking elevated food that still feels personal and grounded. A true gem that I’ll be returning to again and again.
We had the most amazing experience! James was our sommelier and Ceasar covered our table. It was worth every penny. I'm also gluten free, and they made the tasting menu completely accessible to me including pasta and tort shells. The tastings had a huge depth of flavor and were just really phenomenal. All around, great time.
One White Street delivered great food and excellent service Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. The award-winning chefs use the best quality ingredients to produce dishes that are simply delightful. The restaurant also offers a wonderful drink menu, and they offer one of the best wines in the region. They get new menu every couple of months and make it more fun to try new dishes.
Decadent and inventive fare with a cozy and romantic ambiance, but ultimately fell short of lofty expectations. Went with my wife and we had the upstairs (tasting) menu. The menu gives you an either / or option for four dishes with three more that are “fixed”. The harissa and grains dish was fabulous. So was the tuna tartare / foie hybrid. And the potato and onion tortellini was exploding with flavor. However, the main pork dish and sea bass were both excessively creamy / heavy and even the tempura squash, while yummy, felt overly fried / greasy. The pork in particular was VERY fatty and not really our style. The alternative was a cauliflower dish that similarly looked overloaded with cream. Both desserts were magnificent, especially the Angel cake. And the bread served was practically a croissant! End result was that we both felt uncomfortably full by the end of the meal. The dishes tasted great (besides the overly fatty pork), but much like eating a massive portion of fondue, our innards were suffering after! So 4.5 / 5 stars on food and presentation. Service was a mostly good, but two complaints: (1) a little slow between courses at times and (2) we were asked about champagne when first seated and said yes — at the conclusion of the meal, we realized each glass was $35. Not cool to up-charge like this — menu had $20 glasses and $15 Prosecco, but we were simply given the expensive option without being made aware until the bill. I expect better from such a classy restaurant. So 4 / 5 stars overall, and for the price, better fine dining options exist (Luthun, Coarse, and Crown Shy spring to mind in this price). A good spot, but a little disappointed given the lofty critical acclaim it has received.
One White Street makes friggin’ good bread, which is also sold at Rigor Hill Market next door. If you love bread, don’t walk; RUN! I can’t recommend the tasting menu as the a la carte looks far better value. The food was consistently good but felt generic and uninspired. As someone who loves plant-focused food, I expected to be blown away by One White Street’s access to fresh produce. However, other than the corn and the amuse bouche, the cooking was not produce-first. Yes, the plants were there, but the dishes didn’t highlight the plants’ attributes. The food felt like vegetables dressed up to make it palatable for people who don’t like vegetables, like how you’d get a kid to eat their broccoli. One White Street needs to assume that their patrons at a farm-to-table restaurant absolutely love vegetables. Overall, I’d return to order the breads a la carte (including the foie gras), but I’m not too enthused about ordering the other dishes on the menu. P.S. Forgot to take a picture of the mignardises: strawberry macaron, cherry pate de fruits, and chocolate peanut butter crisp (best one).
Nice room and attentive service. The courses were nicely seasoned and balanced with the exception of salty gougeres. The portions are too small. It was 6 courses plus a palette cleanser. An extra piece of duck or even more bread would have made a big difference. After dropping $600 including drinks, I had to get more food afterwards, which is sad enough to not make me want to return.
The food is great! Everything was cooked exceptionally and loved the flavor combinations. It’s a really cute space too. I booked a client dinner for 6 and wanted to add an additional 1-2 people but they would not let me without a 2500 minimum spend. Kind of silly for a Monday night… I thought they didn’t have the room for it but when I got there there were def tables that could’ve been pieced together. Being inflexible like this leaves a bad taste esp when they want so much more than what a tasting menu costs per person. Wait staff were great and friendly but just not sure how this restaurant is run in the back.
Wonderful dinner at the beautiful One White Street, very inviting restaurant with very attentive service. The bread is all indeed exquisite as noted by other reviews, from the sourdough with black garlic butter to the brioche with the foie gras, outstanding! Interesting play on the fluke ceviche from Long Island with a touch of curry, which was very nice but perhaps a bit overpowering. The foie gras with grapes was outstanding, with an excellent glass of Sauternes and killer brioche, my highlight! Striped bass had a wonderful structure, turnip and beans were excellent, only the skin was a tad bitter, but that could be a personal taste. The restaurant is highly accommodating to dietary restrictions which is highly appreciated. The chicken, the perfect skin with Meyer lemon flavors and stuffing were all superb on flavors! I will return for the tasting menu, the downstairs a la carte is cozy and warm and casual. I think upstairs is a tad chiquer and even cozier. Thanks for a wonderful evening!
We ate here on a Friday evening after snagging a downstairs table for the a la carte menu a few weeks prior. The space is intimate, yet buzzy, with the kitchen and bar adjacent to a small inside seating area opening to a larger patio area on the sidewalk. We were seated at a high top inside, and started with the Just Rosey and Frequent Flyer cocktails. For food, we started with the sourdough, foie gras, and scallop crudo, followed by the stuffed chicken and burger. The sommelier recommend an interesting bottle of French red, which was a nice find. All of the food was great, albeit a little rich. This would have been a 5 star experience if not for the service. Our server perpetually seemed overwhelmed and disoriented, and it took over 20 minutes to get our cocktails. It then took another 20 minutes (and asking 3 times) just to get the wine list to choose our next round of drinks. It was a little disappointing and surprising for such a highly regarded restaurant.
Pleasant meal but wasn’t a « wow » for me. While the food was good it felt every dish was slightly over complicated and there was perhaps less a focus on quality of products. Especially considering the price, I wouldn’t come back. The service was excellent but the atmosphere is rather simple and could use a more « fun » crowd.
I visited One White Street for a Saratoga Water & Michelin event. I had been wanting to visit One White Street for a while and the value for this evening was amazing ($125 for the food and paired wines) so I booked up and went solo. We started with the fennel salad, I asked to have this without the blue cheese which they kindly accommodated. I have to admit I am not a huge salad person and very rarely order it. However, this was lovely and paired so well with the wine selected (I will be ordering fennel salad again in the future). We then moved onto the Foie Gras, which is the dish I had been looking forward to the most. This was delicious, so rich and decedent (there was an extremely generous serving of truffles with this). The bread served alongside this was some of the best I have had, so light and with a great little bit of salt on it. We then moved onto the gnocchi which was somehow dense but light at the same time. The sauce this came with was divine and I could have eaten another portion of this dish. By this point I was feeling pretty full but the duck was next. The duck was cooked perfectly and the sauce was so rich and tasty. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to finish my dish but this was due to me being full, not the quality. The only dish I did not enjoy was dessert. I love chestnut based desserts but the sweet potato and chestnut dish was just not for me. I did not enjoy the texture of the dish or the taste. It was interesting to try though and have to admire the creativity. The restaurant itself is very small and homely feeling. I only saw the second and third floor (both small) but understand the downstairs area is a little bigger. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant and think it would be lovely for a date night. All in all I really enjoyed my evening and the food and wine was lovely. I would definitely return to try other dishes here.
Tasty menu, but without something very unusual We visited this restaurant for a dinner with tasting menu. Good and nutritious menu: starters and lamb were excellent, other dishes were good, but not extra striking. I think, Chef plays safe and cautious: no bright experiences with tastes. Small cocktail card, but cocktails are tasty. Not all staff is smiley - some of them just bring dishes and clean the table, no easy talk and smiles.
My partner and I recently celebrated our anniversary with a special 9-course meal and wine pairing at One White Street. The food was absolutely fantastic - every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The wine pairing was also top-notch and perfectly complemented each course. However, we were a bit disappointed that we didn't receive any special recognition for our anniversary, especially since we chose One White Street specifically for this special occasion. As a Michelin-rated restaurant, we were expecting a bit more in terms of personalized service. Nevertheless, we still had a wonderful evening and would highly recommend One White Street for anyone looking for a fine dining experience with exceptional food and wine
I visited this restaurant on the 7th of October and had a reasonably good time. I ordered the Wagyu Burger, which was absolutely lovely. It was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. I had a brief chat with the chef (lovely south asian girl) while I was there, and she was so warm and genuine. I complimented her on the burger, as it really was excellent. The service was okay - I had three different servers throughout my visit. They all seemed nice enough, though a bit ambivalent or slightly off in their interactions. It might’ve just been the start of their shift or a quiet moment, but the energy felt a little subdued. Overall, though, it’s a nice spot and one I’d certainly recommend.
I recently had a wonderful meal at One White Street. The wagyu cheeseburger was good, but the shaved fennel salad was truly the star of the show—it tasted incredibly fresh, which makes sense given the restaurant's reputation for using produce from their own farm. The service was a mixed bag, but the bartender serving me was absolutely amazing and a total highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, the other waiters weren't quite on the same level, but the great food and excellent bartender made it a memorable experience.
One White Street Coffee is such a charming little spot! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to slow down and enjoy a coffee. Their baguettes and sandwiches are fresh and delicious, and the bakery items are a real treat—everything tastes homemade with so much care. The coffee is excellent, rich and perfectly prepared, and the staff couldn’t be lovelier—friendly, attentive, and always welcoming. Definitely a neighborhood gem that I’ll keep coming back to!
You will like this place if; You have a preference for health food, Prefer low profile/subtle flavours, Your name is not Emily. Looks great, tastes like nothing I've ever had before, but 2 out of 3 people in my group claimed it was not on par with other nyc eats and that it does not deserve the Michelin title. Non veggie items were oily, veggies were bland, dips were fantastic, service was the most deserving of the Michelin star (amazing people.) The stairs could have been an issue if we were leaving full or drunk.
If you're planning a fine dining experience in New York with young children, I highly recommend this place. It was fantastic to be able to order a la carte for our child while the adults enjoyed the tasting menu. While they had a kids' menu, even the regular main dishes were perfectly suitable for children. We'd definitely revisit on our next trip to New York! The only area for improvement we noted was the dessert course within the tasting menu. It seemed to lack the strength and innovative flair seen in previous courses, especially in integrating the subtle Asian influences. The desserts didn't feel as harmonized with the overall tasting experience, which was a slight disappointment at the end of an otherwise excellent meal. A refresh of the dessert offerings would be a great enhancement.
Amazing! Will definitely come back. Went for dinner and it was so nice. The atmosphere is a little loud but not too noisy, which gives you a very comfortable feeling. The service was also incredible. Our waiter was so friendly and attentive. It was pure joy and delight eating there. When I thought I had just found my favourite dish, the next dish was even better! We ordered the chilled foie gras, seared scallops, honey roasted duck, Rigor Hill farm summer squash, and strawberry shortcake. Let me just mention the bread quickly: the most delicious bread I have. Ever. Had. It was unbelievably soft and buttery, and the pumpkin seeds on top added was a nice crunch! Also normally I detest seafood, which includes scallops. However, the way One White Street cooked the scallops and the sauce they added really made a huge difference! (I would fly to NYC again just to have their scallops.) The summer squash was also incredible. There is just no other word to describe it! (I would fly back for the squash too!) All the dishes’ flavours played perfectly with each other, making this meal a real treat. The only thing about my experience is that the dessert was way too sugary. The whipped mascarpone and honey and caramel ice cream made the strawberry shortcake incredibly sweet. The shortcake itself was also very hard to bite into, not sure if it was meant to be like that. Though all the savoury dishes were so incredible, this unpleasant dessert left a bad taste on my tongue (literally and figuratively). Overall, it’s still an amazing restaurant and I would definitely make time out of my schedule just to eat there! Would highly recommend if you’re in NYC.
The good: The somms were super helpful with pairing wines with the dishes (we did an la carte) and the hosts at the front asked if we were celebrating anything and wished me happy birthday. The wines were awesome and we liked most of the dishes - the textures of the meat and fish were delicious and the veggies tasted super fresh. Also, towards the beginning of our meal the upstairs water glasses had large dust in them so they immediately replaced them which was great. The not so good: Our waiter didn't tell us his name and also didn't acknowledge the event being celebrated. He asked the table next to us (also celebrating a birthday). We didn't get a complimentary dessert which was surprising given how another table got one and at the end there was no "thank you for dining with us" just a check placed down. This felt very rushed and odd and I didn't realize how much it could effect finishing touch of what was otherwise a decent birthday dinner.
Lovely restaurant, very intimate and warm. Nicely decorated. I felt the service was too attentive, sometimes too distracting. The food is tasty, but it doesn’t warrant the prices. I don’t think I’d return but I would recommend it to tourists (not locals) willing to spend $60 for a slice of chicken and a square cut of suckling pick.
I had eaten a salad and dessert by myself a month ago, but did the tasting menu with my wife last week. It was during a hot humid stretch and the AC was not working on the 2nd floor where the main kitchen is. The manager came over without us asking after the first course and proposed the 3rd floor with functioning AC. That was much appreciated. Start to finish, the dishes were all very beautiful and utilized fresh ingredients. In general, many dishes had very salty additions like bacon, roasted shallots or puffed sorghum. It took away from the simplicity of those dishes. Further, many dishes had a very smoky flavor that was repetitive. I actually expected more, but will be back. The yellow gazpacho and roasted cherry tomatoes exploding in my mouth were the meal highlight. My strawberry rhubarb drink was perfect, not too sweet and very refreshing. For the money, I would give it 6.5 of 10 stars and hope a bad night from the heat and no AC for the poor chefs on the 2nd floor. I liked the windows looking onto W. Broadway and the seats were very comfy.
Beautiful restaurant. Service felt rushed, unpolished and a little pretentious. Maybe the tight quarters, but I was touched 3 times by staff throughout the evening(the water pitcher touched our gnocchi). Although a cold evening, the temperature inside the restaurant required the staff to provide blankets for chilly guests- which I’ve never seen inside an establishment. Drinks came after the first course was dropped. Ultimately, the meal was forgettable and there is no reason to return.
We have dined at many Michelin restaurants and unfortunately this one will be remembered for its many misses. The atmosphere is lacking a vibe and table spacing makes it feel like you are dining with the many strangers in the room. We went out of our way many times prior to our reservation to check on the tasting menu, provide my dietary restrictions and to explain we would have our six-year-old with us. We wanted to be sure she would be able to sit thru the meal and even offered to pay for a tasting menu for her, of very basic items (cost honestly didn't matter) but purely to pace her with our courses so she could feel included and make our experience more enjoyable. Never heard back from anyone at the restaurant prior. Upon arriving, they seemed to be unaware of my dietary restrictions (which were provided a month in advance) which led to me having a very mixed matched tasting of what seemed to be the same ingredients, rearranged but with the same flavor profile. We did appreciate the tasting that was put together for our daughter but unfortunately was a bit too elevated for a 6 yr which defeated our purpose. Had the team actually connected with me prior, as per my request, we could have created a home run for us all, adding to the experience. We had no intention of judging the culinary ability based on her meal but was really hoping to make it work for us all. Which leads us to our major hit of the visit, the service. We will go back to a restaurant that has mediocre food but great service. The service, at all points (with the exception of the Sommelier who delivered our pairings) was a miss. There was zero personality shown, very little interaction, and a ton of details that were missed. It had just had a snowstorm that AM, our coats were checked. At the end of our meal, we were led into the outdoor enclosed host stand to wait for our coats to be brought to us. Seems to me when the guest check is brought to the table the service team should grab the coat check # and have those coats waiting for you at the bottom of the stairs PRIOR to going outside. Not to suggest that myself in a satin dress and my 6-year-old in a dress wait 'outside' in the cold for our coats to be retrieved. It was a jumbled hallway where the service team seemed more concerned getting to their location rather than the guest experience. Wanted to love it, was attracted by the green star, unfortunately there are much better places to spend $850-900 for 2.5 people in the city for us to suggest this place. We ate at Gramercy the following day (also a one star) and the experiences were night and day. The one star makes sense, as the step to 2 stars is in the service, unfortunately your service outshines your culinary talent. Best of luck.
let’s start with the good parts… the upstairs restaurant has incredible vibes & seats only 14 people. the starters were incredible so we had high expectations… but the mains were very disappointing. the monkfish was over cooked and the foie gras was too salty/not balanced. the chicken was good, but the cavatelli was basically pasta in cream. it was like eating cereal and very disappointing. the dessert was solid, but nothing amazing. the highlight of the meal was getting to color in the postcards that the restaurant mails out.
Our overall experience was pleasant, but was only just average. We came in for the a la carte menu and were seated on the second floor. The ambiance was cozy and service was good. The focaccia bread was a standout, but everything else was alright. The burger was called out as a guest favorite, but we found it slightly bland and the buns incorrectly paired. We still much prefer Au Cheval for gourmet burgers, or any other smashburger spot in the city for a good classic burger. All in all, we were a bit underwhelmed by the experience, especially when compared to other great 1-star’s in the city.
I was disappointed with the food on the a la carte menu as a vegetarian, especially given the high price point. There were no protein options for vegetarians. The mushrooms and beans had nice flavor, but were not cooked well. The focaccia and burrata were good, but not outstanding.
My last meal at One White Street was disappointing. While the food was good, the service fell far below expectations. Plates were cleared before my partner had finished eating, water was left empty, and the staff carried themselves with a lazy and unprofessional attitude. It also felt like they were trying to rush us out to turn the table. Good food does not excuse poor hospitality—service matters just as much as the meal, and here it was lacking. Management should focus on properly training their staff.
This was a disappointing meal and experience from start to finish. We were so excited for this meal. We booked it before it got its Michelin star and were thrilled when they did get the award. Now I’m reconsidering trusting the Michelin system again. Service was good, not great. Amuse: a decent little tart and a greasy room temp tempura broccoli fritter Salad: shaved Brussels sprouts. I’ve made better at home. Soup: fine veg soup with pretty garnishes Pasta: somewhat dense hand-made garganelli with a lovely mushroom sauce. Enjoyable. Chicken: poorly cooked chicken with inedibly firm root vegetables. Boiled potato flesh shouldn’t be crunchy. Fish: fine. Pretty color to the beet-based sauce. Dessert: some unmemorable bland blob with a nasturtium leaf on top For a relatively expensive meal, this was pretty mediocre, ho-hum food. Should have trusted the other ⭐️ and ⭐️⭐️ reviews.
I came here with 2 friends last weekend and was disappointed with the food and service. The food we were served did not match the description on the tasting menu and multiple items were left out. In addition, our waiter seemed to have a judgmental tone throughout the night. When we received the check we were charged for drinks we did not order and the incorrect bottle of wine. We politely asked him to correct the bill and he responded by saying “This IS the correct bill.” He followed up by saying the total was correct even if the items weren’t accurate. We had never experienced this before so we explained to him again that there were multiple drinks we did not order on the check and that we did not order the bottle of wine that was listed. He finally agreed to print the correct check but when he brought it back the extra drinks were removed and the bottle of wine was unchanged only the price was changed to be the same price incorporating the additional drinks from the first bill that we did not order nor receive. After enough energy spent trying to get a clear explanation with no success we decided to just pay the bill as it was and leave. Long story short: We will not be back.
The manager should retrain their staff. I had the worst service experience dinning here among all other western style Michelin star restaurants. Every server on second floor seemed doesn’t know how to smile. The manager should have a look of their cold faces when serving customers. I have Anna as my server and she doesn’t know the menu well enough, neither did she act professionally. I have to doubt if it’s related to our racial identity. She acts impatient when we asked her questions. When we wanted to order a bass strip, the server didn’t hear it, which is fine. When we asked where is the fish, she replied coldly that we didn’t order it and then pointed out she confirmed our order with us. Does it really matter? We want the food so you just add it. Take action to make customer happy rather than trying to blame customers and making them feel guilty. Is it hard for you? I also believe she need to be retrained. For example, when asked what’s the crispy potato, I am genuinely curious how is it different from French fries. She simply replied in a cold tone “it’s a real potato.” Good explanation! Can’t some French fries be cut real potato? Even I can explain it better after eating it: it’s a baked and then fried whole potato. For the food, I recommend foie gras, passion fruit dessert, and the crispy potato. We 2 people ate about $160 for dinner. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone since their staff is so poorly trained.
Had very high expectations for this restaurant and went here for my birthday. We had the tasting menu for which they stated they would be able to make a vegetarian alternative for each course. Unfortunately, the vegetarian alternative usually meant they simply left the meat out of the menu item and served it exactly the same just without the meat. This was very disappointing as that is clearly a very different experience than I was expecting from a very expensive Michelin star restaurant. The service was good, and although I really did not like my main course, they were able to make a new main course for me that was good, but certainly not worth the price.
This restaurant falls short of the standards expected from a 1 Michelin-star establishment. It's hard to understand how it earned such a distinction. **Service:** Our reservation for 8:15 PM was not honored, and we were only seated at 8:50 PM. A more professional approach would have been to manage table turnover more efficiently, ensuring all guests' reservation times are respected. They did comp us 2 drinks for the wait which was nice. **Food:** While the dishes were good for a major city, they lacked the "wow" factor that should define a Michelin-starred experience. At ~$183 USD per person (including taxes), the value for money was disappointing. For example, the exterior of the sourdough bread was so hard that it was difficult to cut with the provided steak knife. The monkfish was the standout dish, but even that didn’t elevate the overall experience. Neither of us finished the dessert, which was underwhelming. **Value:** If the price point were closer to $60–$70 per person, the meal might warrant a 4/5 rating. However, at $180+, the experience leaves you feeling let down and overcharged. In summary, this restaurant does not live up to the expectations set by its Michelin star, particularly given the high price tag.
To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement. This was my second time dining at One White Street. My first visit was just okay, but I wanted to give it another chance because I appreciate the restaurant’s commitment to sourcing from its own organic farm. Unfortunately, this experience left me genuinely confused as to how the restaurant currently holds a Michelin Star. I rarely leave negative reviews, especially for restaurants that have worked hard to earn a Star. But after this meal, I genuinely cannot understand how One White Street currently holds one. I had a 9:00 pm reservation and arrived about ten minutes early. I was immediately told the kitchen would be closing at 9:15 pm and that I would need to place my order pretty quickly after I got seated. Being rushed before even settling into the table felt strange, especially when we then still had to wait for our table anyway, despite being told only minutes earlier via phone that a window table had opened if we wanted to come sooner. We started with the pear, blue cheese, and pecan salad. It was fine, but extremely basic—essentially chopped pears (which weren’t even ripe but crunchy with no flavor), blue cheese, and pecans. The braised Wagyu short rib was even more disappointing. The moment it was placed on the table it wiggled like gelatin. I understand Wagyu and short rib contain more fat, but this dish was overwhelmingly fatty. The “guanciale” turned out to be unrendered lardons, something that absolutely should have been clarified in the description. The carrots were also undercooked, hard and crunchy rather than properly prepared. I didn’t eat the $95 dish; my husband did simply because it had already been ordered and he didn’t want to send it back. I’ve dined at Michelin restaurants all over the world, and this experience was one of the most disappointing. The service was flat and rushed, the food was unremarkable, and nothing about the meal or experience was memorable or exceptional. At the Michelin level, consistency and hospitality should apply to every guest. After all, anyone could be a Michelin inspector dining anonymously, and every table should be treated as if they might be. Unfortunately, that level of care and refinement simply wasn’t present during this visit. I cannot recommend One White Street. There are far better restaurants in the city offering exceptional hospitality and dishes that truly reflect Michelin-level standards.
Our family enjoys treating ourselves to a lovely dinner to end the year. We have gone to a number of venues around the city over the years, and this was the most disappointing experience. The main issue was that the music was much much too loud. If I enjoyed going to clubs to party for the new year, I would have set that up. I chose a fine dining experience. I wanted to speak to my table mate but could not hear them above the music and the rest of the room shouting over the music. Even in the restroom, the music was blaring. (Again, I have done fine dining for the new year in the past, some have had music, none have felt like living in a boombox.) I could not enjoy any of the food because the music was so loud that I had a migraine by the second course. That being said, the food was fine but not spectacular. The dishes lacked the subtle balance of flavor that truly refined dishes possess. The service was very friendly both for booking and at the restaurant, but there also lacked a degree of professionalism expected of fine dining. For example, the staff just did not know how to place themselves to serve and pick up dishes given where we were seated. It was unneededly awkward every time.
A disappointment… I came here yesterday to bring my sister that was visiting from out of country and would not recommend this to others. The environment was very nice however I was quite disappointed to find a bone and fish scales in the sea bream part of the tasting menu dish! I informed the waiter and did not get any acknowledgment upon receiving the bill.. received no apologies for this. The wagyu and the syrup drink was really yummy but otherwise the other dishes were mediocre and service was not attentive and slow. Overall the atmosphere was good but the food was not returning for!
Dined at their a la carte floor, arrived at 6:25, ordered 6 dishes and 3 rounds of drinks. Food is slightly above average, but the service is very very very slow and feels off. Each 2 dishes took about 40 minutes to come, and drinks took at least 25 minutes to make. Service is rude and rushed to make up their slow kitchen time. The servers took away our unfinished dishes multiple times, and we were told to leave because “our time is up” right when we were about to finish the last pork loin dish (like after 7 minutes after we got that dish), and they took away the unfinished dish shortly after. A little background here: we are two Asians, and was told to leave after 2 hours. The table next to us are 2 white couples that arrived 15 minutes after us, and that table was never told to leave—in fact when we walked past the restaurant again after 45 minutes, they are still there toasting. Their food came much faster as well. No personal grudge, but you can sense the disparity here. Slight racism? I’ll let you decide… I feel uncomfortable and sad after the dinner.
The tasting menu barely had any good dishes. The salad was even bitter. Every dish had strange and awkward combinations, and when put together, they didn’t make sense at all. Each element felt random, like they just threw things together without thought. On top of that, when the dishes were served, the server introduced each plate in about 2 seconds, speaking so unclearly and incoherently that it was impossible to understand. It honestly felt like they just wanted to run away immediately after dropping the dish. Also, we went there for a special occasion, and unlike many other restaurants at this level, they didn’t even bother to offer a small cake or any gesture. At $178 per person, after tax and tip it’s over $230. Honestly, not worth it. Plenty of better options in NYC at this price point.
