Opinions de Pomodoro Rosso New York
My first time here, in a word? Outstanding. I was with a regular and her recommendation was spot on. This is a cozy, welcoming place with food that is made with care. I had the penne and sausage, a simple dish, but oh so good. The staff was accommodating and I, personally, like nothing better than a visit from the owner to check on things. His personality shines through the restaurant, the food was delicious and the atmosphere perfect for a neighborhood Italian place. You really can’t ask for more. I can see why my companion loves the place. 5 stars! With the thousands of choices on the West side you won’t go wrong with Pomodoro Rosso.
We stumbled upon this restaurant on a first date after going to amc on Broadway. When I tell you that not only was the food great, the service was outstanding in every way imaginable. We felt welcomed, and the service was so attentive!!! This made a first date so memorable for what could be an otherwise awkward situation. We shared a salad w grilled shrimp and feta, it was huge. I had the chicken parm, he had the halibut and we shared the tiramisu. Soooo good! Thank you, everyone! 😊
I came to this restaurant because I saw a video where my favorite actor Mark Consuelos came to eat here. I will never regret my choice. The dishes were delicious, the service great, and the decorations superb. I can only recommend this restaurant.
Loved this place. We had a great Sunday night meal here. Bread before the meal is delicious, and they even toss in a few pieces when you box up your leftovers to take home, which is a nice touch! We had the lobster ravioli and the natural linguine with shrimp. Both pastas were perfectly cooked and seasoned well. Service was friendly and the atmosphere is nice and quiet. Highly recommend!
We came here yesterday with a party of four. I have to say, it’s the best Italian food in the city. The atmosphere is great and so is the service. Our waiter, Omar, was exceptional. He recommended dishes and he was right on. Also, the owner, Panagioti (Peter), is a class act. He’s so friendly, funny, and personable. He treats you like a friend and makes you feel so welcome. We ordered the soft shell crab special - unbelievably delicious! Also, the chicken parmigiana was the best ever. Also, the branzini was so fresh. And the pollo rugantino is a must try. Great experience! Also, you can have the best food in the world, but if the service isn’t good, then it’s not a keeper. This place has it all!
Best Italian food anywhere. Best service. Best atmosphere. I love this place.
This is so far the most inviting and delicious Italian restaurant. We were greeted by Peter and seatted almost immidiately. The food was absolutely delicious and presentation was high class. The atmosphere is the restaurant reminded me real Italy.
Beautiful food, superb service. Highly recommended.
one of my favorite dining experiences in NYC. the staff was very friendly and insightful, and the food was unforgettable. I will certainly return for another meal in this wonderful establishment
This place is great. The food is fantastic, the vibes are welcoming, and the service is excellent. Highly recommend!
I recently went to Pomodoro Rosso for the first time, and it was a wonderful experience. There was live music down the street, so I sat outside to enjoy the sun and the atmosphere. My server, Mx Goran had a great energy and had excellent recommendations. I made a mistake and didn't realize that I had ordered a dish with red sauce instead of alfredo (again, it was my mistake), and they remade the dish to what I had expected to eat. It was very kind of them, and I appreciated them going above and beyond. The food was delicious, the complimentary bread came with yummy oil and olives, and all of the staff were attentive and on top of their game. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely go back and read the menu more carefully and have another great time.
Great atmosphere, great service, great food. What more do you want?
Had another great meal here! We love the pastas and chicken parm. They serve a lovely plate of bread, olives and olive oil to start with which is such a nice touch. Very generous pours of wine here and the best martinis. Food portions are generous too.
My husband and I ate at Pomodoro last night. We live nearby, and it was our first time visiting. We sat outside, and the service and ambience was great. It really felt like a neighborhood spot. Everything from the bread to the salad to the lasagna to the pasta was delicious! Highly recommend. We will be back!
10 all the way! This place made you feel like home, you walk in and the owner is there showing people to their seat and chatting it up. The table bread and olives were a delightful surprise. Now let's talk about the food!! Out of this world with flavor!! Marking this down as a must come again.
Ended up here after an unexpected turn on my valentines date, and I'm so grateful that I found this place on the way. Since the first step into the restaurant we had an incredible and warm welcoming experience by the management and employees. I'll love to give an special mention to the server Goran. He showed us an incredible knowledge of the menu and help us with some amazing recommendations. Food taste and quality matches with the outstanding service received.
Very nice old school Italian restaurant. The wait staff is very nice and attentive. The decor is old school Italian with Old Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra playing in the backround. We ordered the bruschetta for appetizer and a ceasar salad. Both were delicious for our main entree we got the eggplant parmigiana and the chicken parmigiana. Both entrees were delicious and the portions were more than we expected. I highley recomend this nice little place if you are in the Lincoln Center area.
I love this place. We've been coming here for years - dating, anniversaries, birthdays. They have never disappointed: great service, great food, amazing pasta and desserts and drinks. There is a reason that now we've moved to NYC, this is where I chose to come for my birthday. Wonderful.
Absolutely delicious authentic Italian food! This place is a must visit in NYC! The service was magnificent and the staff were all friendly, helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. I was stuffed after eating the bread service and pasta, so my only regret is not being able to have dessert. I will be back!
One of my favorite Upper West Side restaurants. Peter the owner has done a fantastic job at running the establishment over the years, we have been dinning there for over 15 years. The food and service has always been outstanding but the charm and welcomeness of Pomodoro is what really makes this place special. I couldn't recommend the restaurant highly enough, it's a must visit if your on the UWS!
My friend and I went here for dinner, and it was a lovely experience! We had the Pappa al Pomodoro, the Farfalle Con Salmone, and the Spaghetti Squash. I recommend them all; they were all tasty! The servers were charming and created a pleasant atmosphere. I recommend coming here and sitting outside on a nice evening!
I've discovered Pomodoro Rosso almost 25 years ago(!) when I visited my cousin who lived on Broadway at the time. We had a great meal, and I enjoyed it very much. Since then, every time I'm in Manhattan - this is the first restaurant I go to, and the first one I recommend to everyone. Their tomato soup, served inside a freshly baked bread is simply marvelous. And then, every pasta dish I've tried was delicious. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
What a great dining experience! Came here today with my husband and son. We each ordered the Pollo Rugantino. OMG! It was delicious! Chicken breast with goat cheese, sautéed mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes all in a delicious brown Sherri sauce. It came with potatoes, broccoli, carrots, and string beans. We also ordered fried calamari and lentil soup. The calamari was delicious as was the lentil soup. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive, and the water boy made sure our glasses were constantly filled. The atmosphere is so Manhattan and so Italian. We will definitely be coming back. It is one of the best Italian restaurants we have been to. This place has it all - great food, great service, and great atmosphere!
A gem of a place with an authentic neighborhood vibe. Our waiter was patient and very helpful. We were a party of Eight with kids. (Not your favorite dinner guests and he still was wonderful ) Grandchildren parents friends and grandmother. We ordered a variety of dishes and even split one without any hesitation from our waiter. Everyone joined the ‘clean plate club’ at our table. The food was delicious. Salmon with fresh vegetables that were not overcooked or mushy. Gnocchi with lamb Gnocchi with pesto Pasta with sausage Spaghetti with meat sauce Bread was crusty and so yummy with just the right amount of seasoning. A highlight of NYC dining!
I am so in love with this restaurant. It is nestled in a gorgeous neighborhood close to Lincoln Center - so it's a perfect dinner place before the Opera or Ballet. I am teach from OK who takes a group of 15-20 students to NYC for a week each January, and we have been here 3 times. The food is beyond amazing - so many amazing options. And the service is unmatched - we have been repeatedly been overwhelmed by the kindness and skill of the servers and staff. The kids feels so fancy eating an Italian restaurant before the Opera, and the cozy feel of the restaurant really seals the deal. This year, one of my students had a birthday the day we visited and they came out singing with cake and a candle - we couldn't ask for more!
My favorite restaurant. Everything is made fresh to order. Want any substitutions, no problem! The best servers/waitstaff in the game. No waiting or trying to get the attention for service. You’re served from the moment you open the door.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Pomodoro Rosso! After a long day in NYC we stopped to look at the menu and I’m very happy we did. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff and seated promptly. The ambiance of the restaurant is so inviting and it was an absolute pleasure meeting Peter. I felt like I was home and I can’t wait to come back! We decided to start with the Cozze Al Pomodoro E Prezzemolo, which was so flavorful, and then had the Rigatoni à la vodka, and that was absolutely perfect. The service was impeccable, with attentive waitstaff who made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. The menu offers a variety of authentic Italian dishes, from traditional pastas to pizzas and seafood. I HIGHLY recommend Pomodoro Rosso for anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Italian night. Buon appetito.
Excellent place with authentic Italian menu, a beautiful atmosphere, but most importantly a very attentive and friendly staff and host. They can accommodate almost any request for you meal. We recommend making a reservation, especially during the holidays since it gets very busy. It has a cozy, small neighborhood setting with nice artwork on the walls. They even helped us perfect our Italian pronunciations! They have a mix of both fresh hand-made and dry pastas to choose from, as well as a good selection of wines in several price ranges. Our party had chicken parmigiana, lobster ravioli, a made to order penne with an arrabbiata sauce, pesto gnocchi, rigatoni grapa, and a molten lava cake and limoncello to finish.
We ordered chicken parmesan and roast beef, and both were very delicious. We were too hungry to take a photo They have a nice atmosphere, but we used to take it out. This place is recommended.
We were in the city celebrating our anniversary. Made a reservation 3 months prior for 5:30 on a Friday night in July. We had tickets to see a concert at the Beacon Theater. It was a 10 minute walk between the theater and the restaurant. Place was intimate and surprisingly not busy. However, more people were seated as time progressed. We ordered the mozzarella e zucchine fritte; 3 large pieces of each. They were light, airy and crunchy. Not greasy. Would have liked a little more pomodoro sauce. We ordered the spaghetti polpette and the lamb shank special. The pasta was freshly made with 3 nice size meatballs, several slices of sausage and ricotta cheese. The lamb shank was a large bone with plenty of meat on it. It was served with seasonal vegetables. Thr dishes were well presented. We enjoyed our meal very much. There was plenty of food that we skipped dessert. :( Would eat there again the next time we're in the city.
If there's one must-stop inspired by movies and TV shows, it's eating at an Italian cantina in NY. And Pomodoro ticks all the boxes, and more. It's located in a prime spot, just a few blocks from Lincoln Center and Central Park, on Columbus Avenue. Inside, the ambiance is typical, but more importantly, the staff offers excellent service, and the value for money is outstanding. Everything was plentiful and delicious, with a flavor profile friendly to tourists. Highlight: the pesto. Just for that is all worth it. And the chicken parmigiana — "la milanesa" was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, served with tasty al dente pasta. Highly recommended for anyone looking to recharge after a walk or for those wanting to enjoy a great Italian dinner.
What a GREAT restaurant!!!! We used the party room for a small family event. Our server, Nefthali (I hope I spelled that correctly), was amazing. All of the staff were accommodating and pleasant. But let's talk about the food. Oh. My. Goodness. The food was AMAZING! I ordered the creamed lobster risotto special. It was so mouth wateringly delicious. I also ordered the stuffed clam appetizer. Again, delicious. Of the 15 people in our party, I didn't hear a single complaint. I highly recommend this restaurant as a MUST VISIT while in New York.
Such a classic NYC experience! Amazing bar, great service, and delicious food. If you’re looking for a great martini, this is the spot. Servers were lovely and so kind to us. The city is lovely at night around here, outdoor seating is ideal. I highly recommend this spot!
As a NYC native, this is one of the best Italian spots I've been to in the city. Everything we had was delicious. I highly recommend the bruschetta, the spaghetti polpette, and the espresso martini - it's perfection. Although the waiter was a bit inattentive, it's worth mentioning that when we arrived we alerted the wait staff we were in a rush to catch a movie in the area, and they ensured we were served quickly despite the dinner rush. Can't wait to return again and again.
This classic Italian is full of great New York character and kind of a must visit maybe pre-Lincoln Center. Had a couple of seafood pastas - the seafood part was great except the lobster and shrimp were clearly frozen but the red sauce was amazing! Better than anywhere. Service was nice except the uniforms they wear are kind of ridiculous. Wonderful atmosphere and a sense you could be in Queens or anywhere in New York. Crowd was older and local.
This restaurant has established itself as a great spot for homemade Italian cuisine in the Upper West Side, and I prefer it even more because it’s open for lunch. The 12-3 menu is a fantastic daily lunch option. You can select from four different pastas, with a choice of Caesar or house salad, and for dessert, tiramisu or cannoli, all for a reasonable price of $26. The salad is fresh, and the pasta is truly authentic.
Absolutely amazing gem right by Central Park. I had a group of 7 and we all had a craving for Italian food. We stopped by for a late lunch and were quickly seated. The wait staff was super friendly, always had our water glasses filled and answered all our questions about the menu. Even offered us a few off menu items that were great. Pictured are the antipasto salad, burrata, calamari, tri color salad, chicken parm, chicken francese, seafood pasta, & the spaghetti and meatballs. Fun fact, chicken francese was not on the menu but the chef made it and it was absolutely delicious and came paired with spaghetti made in the francese sauce. After about an hour, we cleared our plates and we were on our way enjoying the great weather in the park. Stop by Pomodoro Rosso for a great meal.
I had an absolutely wonderful experience at this restaurant. The staff was friendly and attentive, treated me like family from the moment I arrived til the moment I left. The food was fresh and delicious, the portion sizes are huge and the pricing is reasonable. For an appetizer I ordered the Ricotta, walnut, and cranberry stuffed zucchini flowers with a red sauce. It had a mild sweetness from the cranberries, with a nice crunch from the walnuts and when paired with the sauce it was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. I would definitely order this again, and again if I lived closer. And for my main course I ordered the Ravioli alla Aragosta - Fresh ravioli stuffed with lobster meat in a light cream sauce. This was a perfectly balanced meal, it was sweet, it was savory, it melted in your mouth, and none of the flavors overpowered the others, instead they complemented each other with every bite. The experience was definitely a 10/10. Next time I'm in New York I'll be back.
Service very good. Food delicious. Chicken piccata, the sauce is good but I like thinner chicken, this is a personal preference. My husband loved the shrimp and The penne vodka is good. Pasta needed to be cooked a bit more But it’s was still great. My daughter loves the salmon here. The bread is great served with dinner. Updating my review Went back it was great !
We really enjoyed this place. Took a chance and popped in with an empty stomach. The staff were nothing short of excellent. Started to pick up around 5ish. As for the food, it was great. I asked the waiter what was spicy or had a kick to it and he replied with "we can do that for any dish you like". So my dish was delicious and catered to my liking, and as for my girl friend, she loved her meal too. Would highly recommend.
Well we weren't exactly dressed for it , so we sat outside. Inside look a bit like u should be dressed right. . I ordered the short rib with mash potatoes. Omg was it good. It was sooooo good. The portion was big enough. Not cheap. Came here with my uncle , mom , aunt. They eat like they on a diet . Not me . I loved my food. Would def eat here again next time. Price is not low but not too high. Parking is street parking. . . Ladies bring a sweater inside the A. C was great. Felt it as I went to bathroom. All the waiters were all very nice. . Thank u all u made dinner very very nice. I didn't get a picture of my food. But I did get these 2 pictures. A small video of this beautiful fire place. .I loved it. Not sure if it was real.
I love this restaurant, been coming here for years. First time back since the pandemic and it is better than ever. I was here with 2 friends, we all got different entres and the food was yummy. Love that they served cookies for desert, a perfect end to a wonderful meal. This a local gem worth visiting.
Consistently excellent Italian food. Love the Shrimp Parm. Great pastas and deserts. Amazing amount of specials. The atmosphere could use a refresh and the service is hit or miss depending on the night. Love the Great Food though.
We found this restaurant on Open Table after completing a 2.5 walking tour of Central Park. Our group was tired and HUNGRY and the fact there was immediate seating available for a party of 9 had me feeling grateful and maybe wary. But we walked around the block and found an adorable restaurant with an "A" health rating posted and cute outdoor seating. We ended up seated in a room of our own which was good for us. The menu included brunch which was a nice surprise for an Italian restaurant. It wasn't the most amazing meal, but I was still delicious and there were not a lot of leftovers. Service was quick and the staff snapped pics for us also.
Cute little restaurant we chose to stop by for dinner before seeing the Whipped Cream ballet. I saw photos from Instagram and decided to try it out. It's a hidden gem and the waiters there are all so nice and sweet. We ate outside although we probably should have dined inside because it was incredibly hot that day. Food was delicious and fresh but I felt like I couldn't finish it all because of how hot the day was. Sometimes the heat just makes your energy and appetite levels low. The waiters were so nice and kept refilling our drinks regularly bc of how dehydrated we were though.
We ate outside at their outside structure due to rising covid cases, they kept the door cracked so there was good ventilation. It was a cold night and though they had heat lamps it was still a bit chilly but we were sitting very close to the cracked door because I wanted all that air flow. The outside structure is well decorated and doesn't feel kitschy. Service was great, suggested a good wine replacement for what we originally chose since they were out. The pasta was yummy, I think the pizza we got to share was just ok and the salad I got was fresh but nothing special. Still good and I would visit again for just the pasta and maybe try something else on the menu just to see what else might be good.
We stumbled onto this place by accident. The atmosphere was very similar to Italy. Small, narrow, authentic, with outdoor seating on the street. The food was pretty great. The pizza is a bari style pizza. Thin and crispy and very flavorful. The mozzarella was extremely creamy and fresh. The bread at the beginning was awesome. The chicken parm was ok. And the service was a bit slow (very authentically Italian). We enjoyed the cheesecake dessert. Overall a pretty wonderful time.
On Columbus between 70 & 71st, perfect location to stop by after a nice walk in the park. Staff is very friendly and the food is good. Weekends have brunch, but traditional Italian is excellent. Featured on Seinfeld, this was the popular breakup spot. This neighborhood trattoria serves good home cooked classic food and drinks. It was a nice lunch, in a nice setting. Tables are available inside and outside. Great people watching if you can get a table that faces the street.
No wait for lunch and the service was very prompt and friendly. Tables were separated by a thin curtain which made it feel cozy and exclusive. Meal included some bread. Calamari was a surprisingly large serving for an appetizer. It was noteworthy that one of the servers seemed to have a few local regulars, which usually speaks to the legitimacy of a place not being a tourist trap. Food was pretty good, fairly large serving. House wine was fine. Tap water was good as usual.
Waited for more than an hour for the food, no attention from the waiter or the manager. The Fillet Mignon main course was good but the sole fish was too salty. Not coming back or recommend.
While the food is good yesterday is the poorest experience I have had here. Our order was incomplete, the melanzane appetizer bland and undercooked, but the service was terrible. Our waiter was glued to his phone, we waved people over several times and our conversation for a time focused on how inattentive the staff was, especially since the restaurant was nearly empty mid-afternoon. I will think twice before returning
Want to start off by saying that for the most part, the food wasn't bad. It was just not worth the price they're charging. We ordered the calamari appetizer and four different pastas. The calamari looked great and I was excited to dig in; but while the crunch was good, there was just no flavor at all. We ordered 2 fresh and 2 dry pastas. They were are good, and I would've rated this restaurant closer to a 4/5 if it was priced around $20/pasta rather than $30. At around $30/plate for pasta, I expect something mind blowing.
The staff was super welcoming ! You need a new chef immediately. I spent the majority of my life on the UES and UWS… new chef or better quality of food needed I rarely write reviews but my friend and I have upset stomach post a very “basic” meal Again the vibe and staff were awesome !!!
Had high expectation for this place but was disappointed. Despite restaurant half full, service was not attentive with server forgetting request or walking away as soon as they ask what we wanted to order. Food was just ok and not justify especially when you look at the price. Ambiance was ok and the restaurant is a mix of locals and tourists. Would not come back again - lots of better other option nearby.
Very disappointing and overly expensive! A $15 salad that was very underwhelming. A dishonest waiter added a $40 tip on my credit card AFTER I had left a $40 cash tip! I called the restaurant to report this and I never received a call back from the manager who was "busy" during a non-peak day and time. Please go to another Italian restaurant with better food and honest service. I did file a dispute with my cc company for them to investigate this fraud.
Don’t let the outside vibe fool you!! My bf and I had lunch at pomodoro but this was definitely the wrong choice. The service wasn’t good, we didn’t feel welcome. The food seemed very cheap. We had two starters and two mains, nothing was tasty - the mozzarella tasted like plastic, the vegetables were not cooked well, and the overall presentation was mediocre. We paid almost 200 USD - really not worth it unfortunately.
Got the 12-3 lunch special, the food is too expensive to also be mediocre. Servers are also a little too attentive. It felt like I got checked on every 2 minutes.
The staff were attentive and friendly, but the food is very ordinary and bland (although the portions are generous). We tried three different pasta dishes and only one we finished - and not because we were full. Overall, you can do a lot better for the price.
For being an italian place at that zone, i was expecting so much more… Service was great but we where really dissapointed on the food. We even found a fetuccine in a spaguetti plate I mean, i guess everything was well cooked, but the lack of flavor even from the calammari starter was kinda dissapointing Bread was nice tho!
In honesty, we had a reservation elsewhere, but we decided to come here because we were running on a time crunch. Huge mistake. I don’t think they season their food. The starter bread was fine, but it was a bit odd because they were like crispy naan sticks? The olive oil with garlic and rosemary(maybe oregano?) was flavorless and just didn’t taste like good quality The rigatoni alla vodka was NOT alla vodka. It tasted just OK, but not enough peas to quality and simply too overpriced. You’d expect a $30 pasta to be “lick-the-plate” good, but we didn’t even think twice of finishing the plate - let alone take it home. I got the spaghetti with meatballs and sausage… i don’t think I’ve had a less flavored meatball (sausage too). Honestly, the entire pasta dish lacked any semblance of flavor. Absolutely not coming back here. If you’re looking to pay $30 for tasteless dishes, you found the place. Don’t wait for a table, don’t reserve a table, don’t even think of coming in. I’d say you could eat here if you were desperately hungry, but at the price point they’re offered for the quality - you can definitely find 10000 better options just walking down the block
I’d booked a table months in advance (and had specifically requested a nice one). When I arrived and let a waiter know I had a reservation, he ignored the fact and just asked how many were in my party, after which I was left waiting and waiting. I later asked another waiter for a specific table that had just opened up, only to be given the same treatment. Soon after, another couple swooped in off the street (without a reservation) and the manager gladly gave them the table I’d been waiting for. When I protested, he simply shrugged his shoulders and said, ‘They were here first’, even though he’d passed by my mother and I repeatedly. Seeing he didn’t care at all, we promptly left and ate at nearby Ella, which not only looked far better (Pomodoro was a bit of a dump), but also had a far better menu. As Kramer once said to George, ‘I’m sorry. We’re through.’
The food was either undercooked or overcooked, one of the worst veal parm ive ever had
Been eating here for many years - one of our go-to places for decent UWS Italian food. Had dinner here last nite with another couple as our guests. Horribly disappointing & embarrassing with no acknowledgement from owner(s). 2 of our 4 entrees were completely wrong with 1 pretty much inedible for me. Server & other staff ignored us/disappeared. When bill arrived, I asked staff to let owner/manager know we had a big problem - was told he was very busy and would tell him later. 15 mins. later we left with no word from anyone. We’ll find another UWS Italian restaurant as plenty of good choices.
Maybe go to Italy before you eat here. Food is really average minus, We were at the back of the restaurant “vip style” said the “owner”. You are next to the toilet and it stinks… won’t ever come back. Much better option around here
Haven’t had too much bad food in NY but this has to be the worst food I’ve had in years. The good: The drinks and dessert were actually good. Lava cake was nice and tasted fresh. The bad: The meat sauce tasted like it was 2 weeks old and was soaked in grease. Yes grease. It tasted burnt (somehow) and there were only 8 noodles in it. This “fresh pasta” was about as fresh as the lean cuisine. The worst part is that the noodles didn’t bother half as much as that disgusting sauce. The pizza somehow was worse. Crust frozen with a glutinous about of cheese on it to try and hide it. The texture of the crust was lunchable-ish. I felt scammed walking out of that restaurant. Spending $125 - $175 on a dinner with my wife is expected in NY but the quality of this food really upset me. Won’t be going back and I hope they change some things around there so it doesn’t happen to someone else.
