Incredible place! Executive Chef Adam Ben'Ous is a first-class chef and wonderful host. Made my sister and boyfriend feel right at home and so welcome. The Apple tart desert was amazing and my absolute favorite. Wonderful venue for date night and celebration. No wonder why Quatorze has been around for over 40 years. May Adam deserve all the success in the world! And a nice raise to boot! -Sam D
Bienvenue to Paris! There’s clearly a reason this place has celebrated 40 years. If you're on the Upper East Side and looking for a French bistro that checks all the boxes, Quatorze is the place to be. From the moment you walk in, it feels like a cozy Parisian getaway, and the team here makes every visit feel special. Alex, one of the managers, is always on top of things, ensuring everything runs smoothly with a warm and welcoming vibe. He’s definitely a big part of what makes this place feel so personal and inviting. Adam, the chef, always has something up his sleeve but keep the flavors true to a French bistro. Now, let’s talk about the food—the steak frites here are out of this world. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and tender, with the crispiest, most addictive fries in Manhattan. No exaggeration, they might be the best fries you’ll ever have! The tarte de pomme is the perfect dessert to finish off your meal—it’s light, delicious, and just the right balance of sweet and tart. Maybe a Roquefort and a Sauternes to really round out the experience. But the day they make a crème brûlée I will be ordering dessert with every meal. The staff here makes all the difference. Carlos is always there with a smile, ready to lend a hand if you need anything. Justin is another standout—this guy can carry more drinks than I thought possible, and he does it all with a huge smile and effortless style. And of course, Gabe and Fernando, the bartenders, are a gem. It’s the perfect spot for great food, amazing wine, and a team that makes every visit memorable. It makes you feel like you’ve taken the quickest flight to Paris possible.
My visit was on a Saturday with my relative the food Delightful and Delicious. The staff was very kind and show great customer service. Chef did a EXCELLENT job on everything. I will be back again, to try other foods.
I came here after reading an article in the Financial Times about Eric Ripert's favorite restaurants in New York City. Ripert's favorite Choucroute garnie did not disappoint. The sausages were delicious as was the sauerkraut. The restaurant's name derives from Louis Quartorze, as also demonstrated by some nice artworks in the restaurant.
Quatorze feels like a warm hug from your chic French aunt. As soon as you walk in you feel at home and totally transported at the same time but without any pretentiousness that can come with NYC French restaurants. We were there to celebrate my husband’s birthday and had an amazing night. The staff was wonderful and our server Abbey was lovely and there when we needed her but didn’t hover or rush us even though our reservation was late. Everyone that came by our table wished my husband a happy birthday which was such a thoughtful touch. The wine list is great and I loved the cote du rhone by the glass. My husband judges restaurants and bars by whether or not they stock fernet branca and obviously they do which made him very happy. The food was fantastic. Fresh, briney east + west coast oysters, a goat cheese salad with an herby dressing that I wish I could make at home, and perfectly cooked duck magret. The standout for me was the short rib with potato purée which was incredible. We hope to be back soon, or whenever we want to feel like we’re in Paris for an evening.

Our favorite French restaurant in NYC. The food is incredible, the room is beautiful and charming, and the staff is wonderful. A true UES staple. Highly recommend!!
Everything about this quintessential French bistro is perfect. From the wine selection to the bread, from the apps to the desserts. Don’t skip the warm chicory salad with crispy bacon, the steak tartar, oysters, duck confit. French fries are a must!
This was our first time dining and we will definitely be back! Beautiful atmosphere, kind and attentive staff, and excellent food. The duck confit, french onion soup, oysters, and apple tart were standouts but everything was delicious. Can’t recommend enough!
Very high end atmosphere. Wonderful staff. Steak frites is incredible.
Romantic night out with my boyfriend. We had a heavenly meal. Quatorze has a laid back, but classy atmosphere, and the food is divine. Highly recommend the duck magret, as well as the boeuf bourguignon, which is SO tender it melts in your mouth. I had foie gras for the first time in years when I learned it was ethically sourced from farms that do not force feed their ducks. Also enjoyed their roasted oysters dabbed with pesto. Fave dessert is the apple tart. Service is friendly, the chef came out to say hello. What a fantastic date.
This place deserves the highest ratings!!! From happy hour oysters at $1.50 to the perfectly crafted soft shell crab…cooked to perfection. The dessert special last night was a Myers lemon tart topped with blackberries…outstanding!! I’m going back tonight!!!
Love this nice French restaurant/ bistro. The menu is point on, a good variety of wine. Have been there about 4 times and I believe that the steak as well the duck are must try.

The reason why NYC remains the food capital of America—if not the world—is because of gems like QUATORZE and the masterful touch of Head Chef Adam Ben'Ous. You don’t need to endure a 7.5-hour flight to Paris to savor the best Beef Bourguignon, Duck Confit, or French Onion Soup of your life. Instead, skip the $600 round-trip ticket and simply make your way to QUATORZE. Every bite delivers that soulful, comforting elegance you’d expect from a tucked-away bistro in the heart of France. For dessert, don’t miss the Hot Apple Tart, Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse, or Crème Caramel. The caramelized butter sugar on the apple tart is a work of art—crisp, golden, and just the right balance of sweet and savory. Whether you’re on a romantic date, celebrating an anniversary, or simply treating yourself to something extraordinary, this is a place you’ll walk away from already planning your return.
Located in the UES, this restaurant offers traditional French cuisine with specialties such as Foie Gras and Onion Soup. We also tried the Escargots but were not something to write home about. The Duck Confit was crisp and tasty. The Apple Tarte for dessert was very good. Service was attentive and the ambiance was classic bistro.
The food is great here. Love the onion soup among all the French restaurants at UES love the one from here. Duck is fabulous, I did not love the apple tart, the crust is so thin that tastes burn when reheated. Staff is friendly and chef is super nice, he touches the tables.
Walked in with friends on a weekday and got a table. A nice place to eat, good atmosphere to chill with friends. Service is good and attentive.
A solid performer in our UES French Bistro rotation. We’ve only ever dined at the bar and the service is professional, friendly and entertaining. The Steak Frites is always top shelf and the Cassoulet special did not disappoint.

Decadent, rich food. The duck was fabulous, however the recommended main (sausage and kraut) was a bit disappointing. The service was fine, but not focused on the attention to detail or polished. The decor was cute and had the desired French feel. It was obvious they were catering to an older clientele, so it makes sense that the lights were bright, it was very very warm, and there was no background/mood music - I felt very sleepy by the end.
Very nice place on the UES. Unfortunately the best dish was the dessert! Out of this world. The chicken tasted like it was reheated from the previous night and the steak was tough.

Three things to recommend: the half chicken, the salad with goat cheese and the French fries. After that, skip it. The salmon was a bland, overcooked and unseasoned nothing and the coq au vin was a gloopy dark mess. Only one person at our table of four found their meal worth eating.

Everyone is so rude in the restuarant look at the way you responded to my review MY GOSH you have no manners what do you mean if cat ate my tongue first go learn how to respect customers and give them good service then write back assuming thinmgs SHAME ON YOU! The one star was for food that was cold and not cooked right and everything else was the worse I have seen especially after your respond! SHAME ON YOU
This is the worst place, bad attitude and think they are above everyone. They need to get over themselves. The food has gone down and now way overpriced for what you get. I've tried it many times on first avenue with pleasure and used to like it on 79th street but not anymore. The last few times were just a very bad experience. Just to see an owner respond that way says it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clearly he did not read the entire review.
This was one of the most horrendous dining experiences I’ve had. The bartender was horrific. He put the olives for a martini directly on the service bar mat, which is disgusting. Those mats are filthy and dirty cups, shakers etc are placed on them. He was inattentive and helped another patron who sat 5-7 minutes after us before even considering acknowledging our existence. He was incredibly rude, I was the only person of any type of color and by that I mean tan from the summer and I can’t help but feel it was a result of that he purposely chose to give us bad service. I will NEVER COME back and caution anyone I know to pass it along. The Sancerre he poured was terrible.
