Opinions de Sake Bar Hagi New York
The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. You can really tell care and quality go into each plate. The service was impeccable. Our server was attentive, professional, and genuinely warm. On top of that, the restaurant itself is gorgeous, elegant, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. The ambiance perfectly complements the dining experience. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!
I grew up in a cuban household with an amazing cook for a mom. The food here was as good as I've ever had. The vacation frita was insanely flavorful as was the ropa vieja. The sangria was delicious and my wife enjoyed the arroz con pollo which was also fantastic. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and quick. Would absolutely recommend
My family and I went to Victor's Cafe for a pre-theater dinner and we were also celebrating my husband's birthday. Unfortunately we were 15 late to the restaurant due to a delay with our Uber and our reservation was no longer available when we arrived. However after speaking to Diego, a manager that truly worked magic and got us seated, served, and out the door by 7pm for our show! Cannot say enough nice things about the food, ambience, and service! Thank you Diego and team for a fantastic experience! We will definitely be back for more memorable experiences!
The food was so delicious here my fiancés favorite cuisine of food is Cuban and he said this is one of the best Cuban places he has tried in NYC. We got this dish called Fritas Cubanas and omg we could’ve eaten like 20 of them so good. Octopus was very delicious sauce that came with it was perfect. My fiance fell in love with his Cuban sandwhich he ordered and I was obsessed with the “lechon asado” the pork was so tender and the rice was some of the best beans and rice I’ve had. Their coconut mojito was delicious I had to get 2. Interior design also beautiful inside.
Went here for pre-theater dinner with not much of high expectations and we were blown away. Service, food quality and attention to detail were noticeably everywhere. I joked that our server was the owner in disguise since his name was also Victor and he wasn’t above and beyond with his service and recommendations as well. I’m Brazilian and you guys have the best flan I’ve ever had in my life! Also the fried cod fish was to died for! Thank you!
I always love to stop in at victors cafe when in NYC. Centrally located and close to Times Square. I love the menu, you can’t go wrong with anything. The vibe is also amazing in the restaurant. Nice music, polite staff, and beautiful decor. Make sure to do a reservation, they can get very busy. Perfect place for a celebration, I went for my recent birthday and received a card from my waiter, Gabriel. He was amazing and very kind.
We had Christmas dinner here and it was amazing. The service was very good and the food very tasty. The live music was nice too. We were a very large group (15 people) yet we all received our food simultaneously so we all are at the same time with no long wait. Very good customer service
The food and hospitality at Victor’s Cafe is unmatched! I went with friends to celebrate a birthday and I cannot rave enough. The staff is so incredibly nice, the food is phenomenal and their drinks were amazing. We had such an amazing start to my friend’s birthday as we went for brunch. I came here about a year and a half ago, as I live out of town, and could not wait to come back as I am obsessed with their Cuban eggs Benedict. I cannot say enough good things about this establishment!
I am biased because I’ve known Victor’s Cafe for decades. My late Mother loved the restaurant. And we all love Cuban food. The menu has changed over the years but it’s still delicious, based on what my wife and I had this last time. We both enjoyed the palmito salad. She had the salmon ceviche (which was presented more like a tartar), and I had the Pargo en Camisa de Plátano. And delicious café cubano. Excellent service from our server Armando. We also enjoyed the live music.
Love this restaurant! Ropa Vieja for me and my wife had Paella, both as good as it gets! We also enjoyed 2 appetizers, Croquetas and Bacalaitos. It just doesn't get an better if your in NYC and want Cuban Cuisine! FYI, ask for Armando as your server, he's fabulous!! They also gave me Guava puffed pastries with a wonderful cream dipping sauce!!
My husband and I have been going to Victor's for about thirty years and would go more often if we lived closer. It never disappoints. Last night we went for an early dinner and ordered our usual: Hemingway daiquiris to start, lechón asado for my husband and my all-time favorite Cuban dish, vaca frita. Everything was delicious. We ended our meals with wonderful desserts and Cuban style coffee. Gabriel, our server, was very efficient and friendly. The host (I didn't get his name) was very welcoming. This is a truly sophisticated, elegant restaurant that is not pretentious. It has a very pleasant atmosphere. I look forward to our next visit.
Really good food!! Every dish was superbly delicious. We emptied them in no time. Loved the plantains. Waiters were quite friendly and energetic. Restroom was clean. Pricing was fine. Music of moderate volume. Decor was cute
We had an absolutely amazing dining experience at Victor's! Their summer special was what we needed to be able to try different dishes in manageable quantities.
My boyfriend and I diner here on an early Tuesday evening before going to a show. The place was hoping at 6 pm, and we were quickly seated at our reserved table. We began with two fantastic mixed drinks. I went with the traditional Cuban Mojito and my boyfriend started with a Cuban twist on an Old Fashioned. Both drinks were extraordinary! For appetizers we feasted on Salmon Ceviche and Bartolito. For dinner we switched drinks and ordered a pitcher of red sangria...which was made even more special because it was referred to in the menu as "slutty sangria"!! For our main course he had Lichen Asado and I had Camarones Enchilados. Both dishes were incredible! I highly recommend this incredible restaurant that is spectacular both in terms of taste and service.
2/15-party of 2 for dinner Juan was our waiter( excellent knew the menu and could answer questions)..needed one person to have everything plain no seasoning or anything. Me? classically trained chef. Dinner spectacular! Get the empanada app! Service, food flavor and presentation all excellent. A ZILLION STARS!!
Beautiful place, I luv’d it! We were seated right away. Waiters were attentive, courteous & friendly. Food & dessert were delicious. They have great cocktails as well. I enjoyed the cod fish corn fritters as Appetizer, Sooo scrumptious! And I had Salmon as main course with rice n beans sauce and tostones as side. There was a shrimp dinner ordered as well, presentation was impressive. For dessert I highly recommend the guava cobbler with vanilla gelato. Victor’s was a Great Experience, I would absolutely go back.
Sake Bar Hagi in New York is a great place to eat after going to the theater. It’s located right across the street, which makes it very convenient. Overall, the atmosphere is warm, cozy, and perfect for spending time with your partner. The food is authentic and stays true to Japanese flavors, which we really appreciated. The service could use a few adjustments, but nothing too unusual considering the cultural style of hospitality. One issue we experienced was with the billing — we wanted to see a breakdown of the charges, but unfortunately we were only given the final total. We tried several times to explain this to the server, but he seemed more focused on having us pay the final amount rather than providing the detailed receipt. Still, it’s an affordable spot with great food and a nice vibe, especially for a casual dinner after a show.
Went there for dinner and had a great experience. We ordered the DIY hand roll set, mentaiko pasta, sashimi salad, yakitori set, and takoyaki. Everything was absolutely delicious, the drinks were excellent as well I also loved the double shots with the random question cards, it added a fun and playful touch to our dinner What really stood out was the service. Special thanks to May and the Japanese waitress for the warm welcome and attentive care. We’ll definitely be back!
Anytime I come visit NYC, I always try to find Japanese places with authentic food and vibes to remind us of our time in Japan. The bar staff here is very warm and welcoming just as so! Yohei-san even spoke with me in Japanese for a bit! Watching the staff move and communicate in sync was a joy to watch as it showed innovative and efficient service. Each time Yohei had to help another table, another staff member came in to take his place. There was always two people at the bar attending to customers. Lastly one of my favorite things about this place was that it was very clear that the staff really enjoys seeing regulars. There happened to be a guy who was friends with the other female Gyaru bar tender and everyone was so happy to see him. This place serves the taste of Japan, coupled with the warmth of a small-town bar in a lesser known part of the country. Please take a seat! よへいーさん楽しかったよ、ありがとうございました😊
The atmosphere is casual and fun. The food is excellent if you're looking for Japanese bar food. We recently had the mentaiko udon, hagi "pizza" and hamachi sashimi. All very good. Also had a salmon avocado oshi sushi and while it was good, I wouldn't say it stood out. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there for that. Can't wait to go back!
My friends and I go here regularly and sit at the bar to eat and drink or I will bring my kids and sit in the main dining area. I have been going there for over 14 yeats. It is one of my go to places in NYC. They have a wide variety in their menu so they offer something for everyone from basic rolls and sashimi, ramen, skewers, and sushi and rice bowls. There are many additional items on the menu and I have tried nearly everything over the years and nearly everything is tasty. I would never say 100% of any menu at any restaurant is tasty as we all have our own taste buds. But I guarantee you that Sake Bar Hagi has multiple items on their menu that will appeal and be tasty to each individual taste. Also their wide variety of items wards of food taste fatigue that happens when you go to one restaurant on a regular basis. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
My best friends are regulars here and I just tag along. Great service and super comfortable vibes, very mood lighting. Shoutout to the Bartender/Host Marie! Lovely lady always with high good energy! Food and drinks were great! We ordered the skewers, beef tongue curry, some sushi, the fried chicken, ramen and a bunch of highballs. I heard it’s been under new management and things have only gotten better. Again, super friendly staff and great food! Looking forward to coming back again!
Amazing place. Great vibes, good music, decorations, and the bar hostess is such fun! The restroom is Mario themed, and you can play Pacman while waiting for the restroom. I had nabeyaki udon and it was SO GOOD. The soup was rich, poached eggs were glorious, and the udon texture was perfect. Great soup, tasty and nourishing.
My go to Japanese, everything was perfect! The ambiance was great Mentai pasta is my fav!! What truly made our evening special was the outstanding service. A big thank you to May, who went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. She was warm, attentive, and had the best hospitality. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a good Japanese spot
This place was a nice little surprise. It's kind of like a blend of many kinds of small Japanese restaurants into one, almost like a restaurant sampler and a great bar in one. What this meant to us is that while I am not sure that any single food dish we had was a 10/10, the vast amount of unique foods we could try alone made the place a good spot. The vast selection of sake and other Japanese beverages that pair well with those dishes made it a great spot. There were grilled meats, ramen, sushi, onigiri, okonomiyaki, and more. If you are an adventurous eater, you would likely be satisfied with many of the options. From the grilled meat side we tried beef tongue which we both agreed was good and chicken gizzards which split our group texturally. We had gotten the pickles with this (oshinko) and I would highly recommend pairing any grilled meats with those and a drink. I would comment that the kimchi didn't really fit with the pickles, but we loved the pickled daikon and the spicier green pickles. The monk liver and salmon roe (ankimo) was another adventurous dish that we thought was okay. The spaghetti with creamy spicy cod roe (mentai pasta) was another very unique one, we could have taken or left. Overall though, I would suggest trying maybe fried and grilled meats with the pickles and booze. We also tried two types of onigiri which were both very good, plum filling the non grilled one and spicy cod roe filling the grilled one. Both of the onigiri were excellent, but I really think the grilled onigiri stands out as perhaps the best dish of the night. We did try the miso soup, which was very good, however there is a lot of salt in all the food so I would tell anyone to consider if they really need that much salt before ordering. We tried a sushi roll, which was good, but it was hard not to find the sushi selection just a little bit disappointing. There were maki rolls and sashimi, but no nigiri or temaki which just seems like such an easy miss. There's a big difference between a quality slice of yellowtail nigiri and a maki roll. I wish we would have gotten to try more, but we left very stuffed and also a bit tipsy. We were very free flowing in our orders, ordering just a few items at a time and the staff seemed very prepared and acquainted with that. We also ordered a nigori bottle of sake to start (this was a great deal and kicked us off properly) before we later finished with a higher proof shochu and mixed drink. I do think I would have appreciated the option to get flights here to lean more heavily into the trying everything vibe. I have never had shochu before and while my selection was fine, it would have been nice to know if I just picked the wrong one or if I'm just not a huge shochu fan without having to order several entire drinks. Same for the sake honestly, need flights. The restaurant itself seemed fairly clean, was popular but not overcrowded, and was very well themed. There were anime posters, manga, a vertical standing record player, the bar looked cool. Overall a good vibe.
Came here for lunch with a group of 7 on a Thursday and was able to be seated immediately. I'm so surprised this place isn't more crowded because the food was amazing. While they offer some sushi rolls, I say skip them and go for the other meal items. We shared the fried chicken was tender and seasoned well, not super spicy which was appreciated. The salmon bowl was fresh and filling, but the main event was the eel. For $25 you get a platter of 5-6 pieces of eel over rice which was just melt in your mouth good, soup, salad, little sides and a broth you can pour over the eel and rice. It really was a steal and you will walk out full. The waiter came over at the end with some much needed complimentary hot green tea which was much appreciated and needed to help digest all the good food.
I went to Sake bar Hagi last Tuesday. That's fun time to find the new spot of the Japanese restaurant. The atmosphere inside was cool. They decorated their restaurant with Japanese comics and they got nice stuff from Japan to make you feel like you have a drink after you finish work in Japan. They also got the arcade game in front of the restroom. For the food is little bit high sodium in everything. But the waitress told me that their chef went on vacation so the temporary chef but overall is great. Just highly recommend you to told your waitress when you order for low sodium food and you should be okay. We also have the unagi don which if I forgot to take a photo. That's awesome dish too. If you looking for something to drink after work in Manhattan. This place is not the bad idea.
First time here. The place is very nice the atmosphere is pretty chill. I came during restaurant week and their prefix menu is very limited so keep that in mind. Also be prepared to pay more since you are dining in downtown area. The restaurant is conveniently located near the E-C subway station and also the orange lines on 6th avenue.
I recently visited Victor's Cafe Cuban Restaurant and had a solid 4-star experience overall. Every aspect of the visit was remarkably consistent; I rated the food, service, and atmosphere each at a dependable 3 stars. It is a reliable choice if you are looking for a steady experience where the quality of the meal, the attentiveness of the staff, and the overall vibe of the restaurant all meet standard expectations.
Seriously the cutest decorated Japanese restaurant in the city. It's music themed throughout the entire place even in the bathroom. The place is pretty big and good for larger parties because they can push tables together. The waitstaff was super friendly and not intrusive at all when checking on you. The lunch special was a good size. It came with soup and salad.
A chill spot to grab lunch in a rather busy part of Manhattan. A lot of corporate groups come here and I see why. The service is quick and the food is delicious. They have a decent sized menu consisting of sushi, ramen, and fish/meat entrees. For the area that you’re in, the prices are pretty fair. Would definitely stop by again if I was with a group looking for a spot to eat nearby.
We had a good experience at Sake Bar Hagi. The food was tasty, and one thing we really appreciated was how fast everything arrived—definitely a plus when you’re hungry! • Glazed Edamame: I liked the flavor, but it was a bit spicy. • Gyoza: The taste was great, but it was a bit crispy. I enjoyed it, but my partner prefers a softer texture. • Chicken Yakisoba: Really good! One of the highlights of the meal. • Sweet Potato Sushi: The taste was nice, and you wouldn’t even guess it was sweet potato. • Veggie Sushi: My partner liked it but didn’t love it. The presentation could have been better.
The food here is just ok and they are certainly not generous with their portions. The best part of our meal was the guac with chicaron, salsa and fried plantains chips. That started us off on a good note but then it just got kinda boring after that. The lechon (pork dish) was lacking flavor and the baca frita was kind of dry. The drinks were ok and our dessert didn't impress..
We ended up here by accident. We had tickets to see Jersey Boys and wanted to locate the theater before we grabbed some food. We saw the burgundy awning and headed straight there. There's no where in our hometown of Maui that serves Cuban cuisine so we were excited. ATMOSPHERE: Quaint bistro-style look with a big skylight in the back seating area. Looks like there is a private dining room off to one side. BEVERAGE: Presidente Beer Good tasting. FOOD: Croquetas Corral con Salsa Especial It's similar in texture to a falafel and shaped like Vienna sausages. The mashed up mixture of ham, peppers, and tomatoes is breaded then deep fried. The flavor was mild and was better with the salsa for dipping. Ropa Vieja I got it because it's listed as a specialty and the ingredients sounded yummy. Super tender shredded steak, onions, and green peppers cooked in a tomato broth and scooped into a plantain basket. The taste is exactly like beef & tomato, a staple in Hawaii. On the side was a mound of lightly-salted steamed white rice and a bowl of blackbean soup which I was told to pour over the rice. The soup tasted exactly like pork & beans from the can, which is a good flavor to me so I'm not complaining. Lechón Asado al Estilo del Puerto Boniato con Moros y Cristianos My partner's dish. Simply put, it's roasted & shredded pork with a side of yuca and a scoop of blackbean rice, topped with 2 pieces of deep fried pork skin. Uncannily tastes like kalua pork, another Hawaiian staple, with its mildly salt flavor and similar texture. The yuca is a potato that looks like squash, and tastes like a mixture of the two. The blackbeans are mixed in the rice and has a nice mild salt flavor. SERVICE: We walked in without a reservation at 6pm on a Tuesday night and got seated immediately. The hostess was friendly and our male server was very friendly, professional, and helpful. OVERALL: While the flavors may be new for some, it's very familiar and not unique to me, who was born & raised in Hawaii and grew up with very similar ingredients & spices, so that's the reason for the 3 stars. That said, the food is good, prices are average and the service was great.
Tip Included, Bad Service, Smelly Restaurant - Not My Place Anymore... We’ve been to Sake Bar many times before, across their different locations, and have had a lot of great experiences. Among friends and family, I’ve always recommended Sake Bar as the go-to place to hang out. Even though they’ve moved around, Sake Bar was my number-one Japanese restaurant, and I didn't want to lose that connection. However, my recent experiences there were awful. During my last two visits, the food was either overly salty or incredibly bland. The okonomiyaki was the worst—it tasted like it had just been microwaved, with an unreasonably salty flavor. The karaage and spicy karaage were over-fried and rock-hard. Sure, they were crispy—so crispy they made my jaw hurt! The sunakimo, on the other hand, was dripping with oil, making every bite unpleasant. To make matters worse, main dish; eel over rice arrived around 15 minutes after we had finished all our appetizers—talk about bad timing. The entire restaurant had an awful smell, and it was a relief to get outside and breathe fresh air. It really makes me wonder what’s wrong with their ventilation system. And to top it all off, they charged a tip automatically for our table of just two people. I’m pretty sure this isn’t legal, and the server didn’t even mention it when handing us the bill. Wow. Expecting extra tips without providing good service? No thanks.
