Opinions de Sala Thai New York
We were greeted with an happy hello from all the staff as we walked in. Our server Hanley was kind, charismatic, and friendly. The food was amazing! My bestie and I travel from NJ just to enjoy this restaurant. We had a variety of things this time around and nothing disappointed.
Love love love this place. The food is fantastic and the service is even better. Alice and Lulu were exceptional at what they do and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Tarn and the manager Beck. Sala Thai, you’re fortunate to have these four on your side. Please thank them and your chefs for us.
Best Thai food ever! This spot is truly the best Thai food I’ve ever had in my life! The lunch special was priced between $16-20 - unbelievable pricing for the sheer quality of this place! We tried one of the green curries and pad see ew… both were mouthwatering. Unbelievably good and definitely the best I’ve had of both dishes. This is a must-do for any fans of Thai food in town or visiting… don’t miss out! Kuddos to the very attentive staff and the speedy service. Incredible meal!
Go early for fast seating. Friendly, very efficient service. Food was excellent quality - fresh ingredients, rich flavors, perfect temperature. Highly recommended and we'll be back.
Incredible Thai spot on the Upper West Side. The place was packed, with a line out the door for both dine-in and takeout—a good sign. We had the papaya salad, green curry, and thick noodles, and every dish was absolute perfection. Bold flavors, fresh ingredients and super friendly staff. A must-try!
Most authentic and yummy Thai food we've ever encountered on the east coast! Again we tried our random luck before a show at the Beacon Theater and again we hit gold. This place was jam packed at 5:30 pm on a Sunday afternoon. We thought we had to wait for a table but the Maitre D was able to squeeze us into a nice corner. The fact that all waiting staff spoke Thai was a sign of assurance. There are so many items on the menu that you'd never find in a typical Thai restaurant, and this adventurous couple was extra excited about trying out new things! We ordered 4 dishes, 3 of which we've never tasted before. The Yum Kao Tood Salad was an explosion of flavors that left one want more with each mouthful, and my husband didn't even recognize that the main ingredient was rice :-). Our waiter recommended the Taro Samosas - they were very nice, but I generally don't eat sweet things during the main meal. The Kao Soy noodles were a pure delight - move away Pad Thai (a government invented dish for cultural promotion anyway), here is the genuine traditional fare! Our waiter was a very young man, who was super attentive and polite. We were quite amused that he'd come over every 5 minutes and enquire if our food was too spicy. Well we both love very spicy food. When we asked him if most people couldn't tolerate the spiciness, he told us that he himself, although a native of Thailand, didn't like spicy food :-). The whole restaurant features beautiful Thai decor, from carved wood panels to the door handles and wash basins in the bathroom. All in all an amazing dining experience!
We started with the curry puffs, which were crisp, golden perfection...light, flaky pastry filled with a perfectly seasoned, slightly sweet curry mix. For mains, we had the Tamarind Duck and Pad See Ew, and the combination worked really well together. The duck was tender with a tangy tamarind glaze that balanced sweetness and acidity, while the noodles had a rich, smoky wok flavor. Every dish was fresh and layered with authentic Thai spices...nothing felt heavy or overdone. From start to finish, Sala Thai delivered bold, balanced flavors and top-notch consistency. Definitely one of those neighborhood spots that reminds you how good simple, well-executed Thai food can be.
Tain was our server and she was lovely. The food and cocktails were outrageous. They have koi soy, which is sometimes hard to find and it was fantastic. The vibe is very nice and plenty of space in the dining areas. Will definitely come back
I had an amazing dinner at Sala Thai. The place is incredible. Thai wood work and traditional Thai paintings on the walls. Great vibes, fast service and food to die for. Every dish I had was delicious. The grilled river prawns were a great start, the muscles in coconut broth were the best I ever had, a must-have dish! The Chilean seabass in coconut bisque was wonderful, and so were the cocktails and the dessert I had such a great dinner. I am running out of superlatives, but felt like I have to come back, come back for some of the other items on the menu. An incredible Thai restaurant!
Sala Thai in New York City was a great dining experience for lunch. We were lucky to be seated right away since we arrived on a weekday for lunch. For food, we got: Krapaw Gai Sub: Krapraw Gai Sub is the kind of dish that ignites your senses from the very first bite. The minced chicken is cooked to juicy perfection, beautifully absorbing the bold heat of both fresh and long chilies. Crisp string beans add a lovely snap, while the generous handful of Thai basil infuses every mouthful with its signature peppery aroma. But the real crown jewel? That perfectly fried egg on top — its runny yolk melting into the spicy stir-fry creates an irresistibly rich and comforting sauce. It’s spicy, aromatic, and utterly satisfying — a soul-warming Thai classic with just the right balance of fire and flavor. Chicken Fried Rice: The chicken fried rice was simple yet deeply satisfying — fragrant jasmine rice stir-fried with tender chicken, crisp vegetables, and just the right hint of soy and garlic. Each bite was flavorful without being greasy, and the portion was generous enough to share. A comforting, no-frills classic done right. Thai Crepe Dumplings: The Thai Crepe Dumplings were as stunning to look at as they were delightful to eat. Wrapped in delicate, violet-hued crepes, each bite revealed a savory mix of minced chicken, peanuts, and sweet turnips — a beautiful blend of textures and tastes. The dumplings were subtly sweet and nutty on their own, but the rich, thickened sweet soy sauce on the side added a lovely umami depth. This dish felt like a true work of art — both visually and on the palate. A must-try if you’re looking for something unique, light, and flavorful. We got another pork-based dish that was delicious and hit the spot. The mocktails that we got(including White Lotus) tasted great too! The staff were attentive and polite. We appreciated that they constantly checked in on us. The restroom inside was clean. Seating is spread out across two floors. Overall, we loved our dining experience here, and I highly recommend visiting.
A taste of Thailand in the UWS! I ordered the coconut duck curry, pad thai, duck roti roll, lychee thai tea, passionfruit cocktail, soft shell crab mango salad, and mango sticky rice. The most noticeable standout weas the pad thai, which had a rich umami taste and was packed with juicy shrimp, not to mention the beautiful presentation. I also loved the soft shell crab salad, which was perfectly crispy and rich with ripe mangos. You can't skip the mango sticky rice, which is actually made with stick rice, unlike other establishments in the area. For more food reviews, check out chloenicholle on IG!
Amazing Thai food and wonderful service! I had a great experience at this Thai restaurant. The food was authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented. What really made the visit special was our server, Alice. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Alice made excellent recommendations and checked on us at just the right moments without being intrusive.
Amazing place! I’m a foodie person and wow! Everything we ordered was amazing ! Perfect portion and such a vibe !!! And ofcourse our waitress Maria was perfect! 🤩 p.s if you are a martini person the espresso martini is to die for ! I highly recommend this place. 10 ⭐️
The go-to place for Thai on the UWS. Expect a wait until your entire party arrives and there a 90min max for parties during busy times, which is fair. Enjoy the nice HH 4-6p, and there is a great broad menu for all to enjoy. We loved everything! Tofu crispy appetizer and curry puffs. And the crab glass vermicelli was a great special. You can't go wrong with any of the recommended meny dishes. Lively and loud. Skip the wait and come before 6p! Enjoy!
What a nice surprise. Dropped by on a Saturday evening without reservation, spur of the moment. Front of the house and servers were friendly and attentive. We were seated quickly. Food was very flavorful. Prawns in the mango salad were grilled just right. Prices are right. Nice ambiance and the tables are well placed, easy for conversation. As good as it gets on all counts.
Potentially, the best restaurant I’ve had in the upper west side so far. Not only is the atmosphere amazing with a beautiful interior and spacious seating, but the food is on a whole different level. Definitely recommend the thai street foods and any of the desserts honestly (esp. the Mango sticky rice, it is amazing)
This was the best Thai food I have ever had in the United States! Tastes exactly like a high quality spot you would find in Bangkok. I can’t believe how good it was - the Khao Soi was amazing and so was the Pad Kra Pao. Pretty reasonable prices too!
not bad of a place we got curry puffs which were okay i thought it would be crispier. then we got the some roti and then some curry which were both good. a little small but filling. then we got the khảo sôi which was good. i didn’t finish it was pretty filling. then we got a lycheetini. the vodka but strong ngl but i’m a light weight but still slay.
My go-to Thai restaurant in my neighborhood! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Every dish is packed with authentic taste—never disappoints. But there’s almost always a wait, even when I reserve a table.
The food and ambience are fantastic. Their lunch specials are excellent value, offering a salad or soup, a starter, and a main dish—perfect for solo diners wanting variety. We ordered the combo with a salad, steamed dumplings, and massamun curry. To finish, we had the mango sticky rice, which was the highlight of the meal and quickly became our favorite. Every dish was delicious, but the mango sticky rice truly stood out.
Came here with a group of 5 on a Friday night and was seated within 10 minutes, just make sure your entire group is present as they do require that! The food was amazing! While the portion sizes were quite small for the price, the taste and quality more than makes up for it. The service was great and everything our server recommended us was perfect!
Nice and warm welcome place spot on UWS for Date night dinner @ Thai place me and my boyfriend very happy with the food and atmosphere so much Especially our superb service of all staff especially our server Cream which so attentive always keep coming for check and make sure everything perfect. Thanks so much ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Anyway don’t forget to try the dessert so amazing and great drink from the Bar. Thank to our Bartender Pang for the great drink and your service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hard to believe but the Upper West Side has one of the better Thai restaurants in Manhattan. Though you'll find all the staples, everything was presented better than you'll see in the usual Thai joints that dot the West Side. Food is also delicious. Papaya Salad may be the best I've had. The special soft shell crab and Mango salad was divine. Very good curry as well. Only issue was host who had some attitude like we were trying to get into an exclusive club and warned us that we had a time limit at our table despite plenty of empty seats. Our waiter though was excellent. The food is worth the attitude.
Really love the friendly service here but the portions are quite small. Bathroom was cutee and our favorite was the shrimp donut aahahah. My personal fav was the yuzu lemonade, delicious refreshing just too much ice. Oh and that coconut pudding dessert is good it tastes like how I had it at other places.
We came in for a night cup after a failed meal at Miriam’s across the street. The bartender was the most welcoming person and attentive. We ordered two dishes and both were splendid and delightful. We hang out at the bar for a bit because the atmosphere was so cozy. I highly recommend this place. I wish I saw it before the other one we visited earlier.
Excellent service from store front team to serving team. And the food, especially the "Street food" menu, is incredible at excellent price points. Well cooked and yummy rice. And a fried egg makes everything tastier, especially with crispy pork 😀. Waited a little for seating but the constant flow of diners and take-out patrons simply reflects how great is this place. Will definitely return! 5 stars! I would highly recommend reservation for maximal time saving and best when the entire party is there on time for seating. Very very busy place, deservingly.
Outstanding Thai cuisine. Great place to go, particularly before a show at the Beacon. We shared the Tom Yum Chicken Wings. These were no ordinary chicken wings. They had a delicious spicy glaze that was simply extraordinary. For my main, I had the Beef Pad Se-Ew which was basically broad noodles with Chinese Broccoli in a thick soy sauce. This was a huge portion, with an abundance of tender, tasty beef. It was a culinary marvel which was filling and delicious. I was too full for dessert, but my wife had the Mango Sticky Rice which was amazing. Service was super friendly and efficient. Prices were very reasonable for Manhattan. You can't go wrong here.
Wow!!! I love thai food, and this was great! We ordered the summer rolls and calamari for appetizers and were blown away! The mint in the roll was spot on and so fresh. The entrees were perfect. I don't know the name of mine, but if you show the picture the staff know immediately. Speaking of the staff, everyone was so nice and helpful throughout the experience. The desserts were also good, not sweet at all. I took our server Mark's recommendations for drinks. When they say it's spicy, they mean it! They were all good anyway! Overall, I can't wait to go back!
This was my most unforgettable Thai place in the UWS. We went during winter, their winter specials appetizer Tofu Prig Klua and regular appetizer Kang Kap Peuak (taro samosa) are 10/10, the Curry Crispy Duck is unbeatable, the curry is on the creamy sweat and spicy side though(pictured). Would definitely come back again!
I have been coming to Sala Thai since they first opened in 2018. I have visited also many of the Thai places in the area, Thai 72, Senn Thai & Land Thai among others however, Sala Thai has a more authentic flare with it’s decoration as well as the variety of the plates. This time it was my wife and I for a casual dinner. She had the Pad Khing Ginger with shrimp and I had the vegetable Pad Thai. Both delicious, well presented and the right portions. When in the Upper West Side, stop by and enjoy. Place is small and always busy, I will recommend reservations if it is a party of at least four. "Eat deliciously"
Arrived at 6p on a Friday night and only had a 20 to 30 min wait! The interior is warm and had temple like accents. We first looked through the cocktail menu and didn’t recognize a lot of the ingredients so we differed to our waiter for a rec. He suggested the petchaboon - makers mark base which was a delicious start to our night! We ordered the red curry with beef and Gai Yang Tra Krai entree. Both DELICIOUS. The curry was full bodied, warm, and so satisfying. Every vegetable soaked up the flavor, especially the eggplant. I wish the beef was cut into chunks because the long strips over cooked in the hot curry. The chicken was perfectly cooked, came with a sweet/sour sauce and an umami sauce option. It was lying on top of a bed of bok choy, asparagus, and mushrooms which was the perfect bit of texture and bite. It came with black sticky rice which was herbaceous and delicious dipped in the curry. We left feeling refreshed and satisfied. Although the wait staff did start by letting us know that we had an hour and a half to eat - which in my opinion is the antithesis of restaurant culture. So we sat, chatted, lost track of time and also wanted to see if they would kick us out (which they did not even after 2 hours). I understand that NYC is busy and populated but I don’t think restaurants should be rushing people out. This extends beyond just this restaurant but it is the first time I experienced it so wanted to note how it affected our experience.
Great food and service. We tried their Pad Thai Bolan And Chilean Sea Bass. Both came out hot and delicious. Keep in mind that there might be a longer than usual wait time if you during their peak hours if you don’t have a reservation. We had a 30 minute wait for a table for 2 because we didn’t make one. I would definitely go back. Highly recommended.
I have to do better with food captions; etc BUT the food was gooood and the service was FAST, we love that. Everyone was polite; only 4 stars for service because she asked me if I wanted dessert, I said yes the chocolate lava cake and then she came with the bill 😩😩 my husband said that was a sign that I didn’t need it lol but we still gave her a good tip. Oh, the appetizer we had stated a type of samosa but it was sooo sweet! Wasn’t expected. Lychee martini so good - the winter cocktails were good.
We had a wonderful dinner experience at Sala Thai. From the moment we arrived, Kamon welcomed us with such warmth and genuine kindness — it immediately set the tone for the evening. The Yum Ped (crispy duck salad) was bright and flavorful, the Pad Thai Bolan was a work of art both visually and in taste, and the Tom Yum Koong was perfectly balanced. We ended with the Thai tea Chocolate Lava Cake, a creative and comforting finale. Everything — from the service to the atmosphere — was exceptional. Thank you, Kamon, and the Sala Thai team, for such a memorable night in New York. Highly recommended!
This is on my top list of Thai Restaurants in NYC. We loved everything we ordered. From the appetizer : Chicken Satay, the peanut sauce and the vinegar is so good, Pad Thai anf Pineapple Fried Rice is so flavorful and not salty at all. Thai Iced Tea is bold and refreshing! Servers and staff are very accommodating and attentive to your needs.
5’s across the board for me. My Massaman curry was maybe the best I’ve ever had. Everyone who ordered the basics enjoyed their Pad Thai, and the crepe dumplings were something I’d exclusively go back for. Wow! The service did a great job—no complaints. Wish I had a more thorough review but in this case it’s a great sign!
This is the one and only Thai restaurant I keep coming back to in New York. I’ve dined here twice, and each visit has left me deeply satisfied. In fact, it’s hands down the best Thai food I’ve had in the city, no exaggeration. The flavors are refined and beautifully balanced, capturing the heart of authentic Asian cuisine. Every dish feels intentional, with just the right amount of care in both preparation and presentation. The staff are warm, attentive, and professional, which only enhances the experience. If you’re a fan of spicy food like me, don’t hesitate to ask for traditional Thai heat. If not, they’re more than happy to adjust the spice level to your comfort. The space is cozy and lively, tables are close together, but it never feels cramped. I’ve tried six dishes so far, and not one has let me down. If you’re craving the bold, soulful flavors of home or Southeast Asia, this place is not to be missed. Make a reservation on Google to ensure the best service, it’s worth it. The cocktails might lean more toward New York tastes, strong and didn’t quite hit the mark for me, but everything else more than made up for it. This is a gem I’ll keep returning to, and I hope the team continues to keep up their amazing work.
Excellent Thai food at a very high level. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The service was friendly, fast, and professional, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. You can really tell they care about the small details. Highly recommended and definitely a place worth coming back to.

Banging food. Loved the beef ribs and some of the best Tom yum I've had. small portions for high prices though. Mediocre service. Portions are much smaller if you dine in. Sketchy situation w the staff's tips from the looks of things. The staff probs don't get to keep takeout credit card tips Very busy
This is a great little Thai restaurant that offers a quick lunchtime happy hour meal deal. However, it's important to note that the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible and not pram-friendly due to the 6 steps of stairs leading up to the main seating area. The ambience was laid-back, and the service was friendly. For appetisers, we tried the vegetable soup, which had a rich mushroom-based broth. The vegetarian spring roll was nice and crispy, and the salad with peanut-based dressing was delightful. The edamame was decent but could have used a bit more salt. Regarding the main dishes, the pad Thai with prawns wasn't the best, but the pad kratiam with pork was excellent. I would recommend this place for a quick lunch with reasonable pricing close to the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park.
6/26/25 first time here. We met friends here for a pre-show dinner. They have some very interesting and new Thai dishes on the menu. We all loved everything we got. I had Kao Soy noodles with chicken, a little less than medium spicy because i didn't know how the chef makes it. Next time, medium spicy (American Hot, what our waitress Aoey said) . It was a really tasty dish. Service was perfect and very attentive. We never had to ask for anything, they just did what they were supposed to. Love it. It's a nice vibe inside And it's larger than it looks... Although the bar which is right inside the front door is very cramped and tight, I wouldn't mind actually hanging out there. That would be fun. I might actually do that soon. They had some good beers, I had a Left Hand Milk Stout, nice to see that on the menu! There is in 1 hour and 30 minute time limit for eating. So just be aware of that. There are metered spots out in front of $13.25 for 2 hours.
Authentic dishes and beautiful decor. Service staff need to be more attentive and friendly. Dishes are absolutely delicious. I suggest making reservations since often times this establishment is busy and there is a small wait. There was one dish, I can’t recall the name that wasn’t great. It was noodles with a variety of sauces and one that appeared purple like. Not a favorite. If you want some authentic dishes than I recommend visiting Sala Thai. The decor in the main room is beautiful and detailed.
Nice Thai place with very good ambience, it was a 40 mins for a party of 8 on Sunday evening..we had Red Curry, masaman curry and fried rice for entree and it was all good , however the mango sticky rice was bit different for what I had previously at other places, it was a bit salty.. we had garden role for appetizers and it was bit of a disappointment.. overall a good experience and a very friendly service.
8/10 Atmosphere is nice cozy. However, not a fan of dividing a 4-top into 2 2-tops by means of a plastic divider, especially one that’s translucent. Luckily, I was able to avoid having to dine next to a couple, but we did get seated next to one as they were finishing up. Food was delicious. The Tom Yum soup had 3 pieces of shrimp, plenty of mushroom, and a not too creamy consistency with a slight spicy coconut taste. Very fragrant, very comforting. The killer was actually the appetizer. We got the fried pork seasoned with tamarind and dipping sauce. It was the star of the night and reminded me a lot of Korean Short Rib, but more savory and packed with flavor. The chicken pad thai was definitely better than just your typical take-out. Personally, not a fan of how large the cuts of scallion are presented off to the side. We also got the chicken penang curry and the consistency was not as creamy as you’d expect from a curry, but the chicken was tasty. Solid dish, nothing too exciting. Fast service, no issues there. Though I was surprised they use wooden chopsticks and I had to ask for them.
We had to wait +10 minutes. We were given a table that goes against the only thing we wrote down in our notes when doing the online booking: to not be next to the AC. We said that we had asked for a table that was not that close (under) the AC and they made us wait 5 extra minutes. Service wasn’t amazing (ie., no explanation of the meals). The place was too loud and crowded. The food was very very yummy!
We highly recommend a reservation, This is a busy place. It’s across the street from the Beacon theater and if there’s a show you wanna have a reservation. My husband ordered the Pad Thai, I ordered the Massamun Curry Nuer & Roti, for dessert we shared the trio of sorbet. It was a perfect dessert for the ending of a delicious meal.
Love the papaya salad and prawn cake! Also the Thai iced tea, love it’s not too sweet. It was already busy right when they open in the morning. The food was great, solid flavors, like the appetizer better than the entrees (we ordered the duck and crab fried rice). Overall, a decent spot to check out if you’re nearby.
Curry puffs were great. Pad see ew was a bit too strong on the sauce, and became overwhelming at one point. Kao moo dang was good. The chocolate lava cake dessert had too much thai tea flavour and not enough chocolate which made it a bit weird to eat. Overall good place for after hours dining, but there is better thai out there.
A must-visit spot for authentic Thai food in NYC. The food is outstanding, offering true Thai flavors. We did have to wait about 30-40 minutes for a table, but that was likely due to our large group; otherwise, the wait time might be shorter. Regardless, it was definitely worth it. We sampled a variety of vegetarian dishes, and loved almost all of them—though I deducted one star for the Garden Roll, which wasn’t quite up to par. The Red Curry and Massaman Curry were absolutely delicious, easily some of the best I’ve had. The atmosphere is fantastic, making it one of the top Thai restaurants in the city.
We got the wings for the appetizer and I got the basil fried rice with beef, medium level spicy. The wings came out with our entrees and they were lukewarm. They tasted good but I think they forgot to bring them out first so that is why the review is 4 stars and not 5. My parents both got pad thai with chicken and said the chicken was really good. The basil fried rice was about as good as any I have had on my travels.
The appetizers were excellent, especially the beautiful purple one which was almost too pretty to eat. The drunken noodle was absolutely phenomenal and everything we tried was delicious. The atmosphere had great energy but it was really loud, to the point where I couldn’t hear much. It was also pretty hot inside even though the fans were on. Still, the food alone makes it worth a visit.
Food is good I recommend the red curry with chicken in it it's very good I like it The service is good and the restaurant we only can eat one and a half hour. This is not too good.

I enjoyed the food overall. Nothing was outstanding in particular. We ordered the Penang curry with tofu which was over fried. The ginger pork dish was very tasty. I didn’t particularly care for th…

Love this place. Best Thai food in UWS, friendly staff, beautiful restaurant, even outside is very cute!!! Update…little disappointed this time. Wednesday night was packed and busy at this place and we couldn’t get a table until our party are all arrived even though we had reservation, which is understandable. However, we still waited about 10 minutes after all party arrived and the told us we only have 90 minutes which no one said anything when I made reservation. The sad part is the food was as good, and we came for our friend’s birthday and the were RUSHING us. The second I put my fork down, they came to ask if I was done. Same for everyone in our party. I’m not sure if they got a little arrogant because they’re more popular now or just lack of staff for a busy time, but I’m not gonna go back as often as I was for sure. Very sad.
Decent quality food and cocktails. Great ambience, service, and presentation. For the price charged, there's room to increase both quality and serving size. The cocktails were creatively made and well presented well but again, not enough alcohol in them for the price tag. I do not recommend the papaya salad here.
I came here for a birthday dinner and the experience was stressful. Tables are packed close, it’s very loud on weeknights, and the 1.5-hour table limit made the night feel rushed. They also won’t seat you until your full party arrives, which added pressure when some of my guests were running late. I tried calling and even stopped by in person earlier to see if we could adjust the reservation or make any accommodations but got no help—the answer was always: “We have a strict 1.5-hour limit per table.” I even asked what would happen if we were in the midst of eating or ordering more food and the time was running short and the response again was “we have a strict 1.5-hour time limit.” They have great food but due to the strict timelines, I would not recommend for a big group or big birthday dinner. It was not worth the stress or the countdown. This is better suited for small groups where noise and timelines are NOT an issue.
Rating: 6/10 Date Last Visited: 8/1/2025 We ordered the Thai Crepe Dumplings ($15), Green Curry ($20), and Pad Se-Ew ($19). The crepe dumplings were a good appetizer, it was unique and a good combination of meat and wrapper but was a very small portion for $15. The green curry tasted standard, what you would expect from a standard Thai restaurant. The pad se-ew was decent too, nothing special. For the taste of the dishes, I don’t think the prices were justified. The service was slow too and the waiter was not very attentive to us. Overall, the food is just standard for Thai, not bad but not delicious either. It’s a nice place to go to spend time with someone, but I wouldn’t recommend it for the taste or price.
Stopped by for a quick dinner at Sala Thai last night and stuck to the classics like Pad Thai and Massaman Curry. The special taro appetizer missed the mark (a bit too soggy for our liking) Pad Thai was quite good but the Massaman Curry was a bit bland for our liking and tasted watered down. Dessert was lackluster as well for us (coconut pudding). With that being said the bar is high with so much amazing Thai in NYC. Maybe we just didn't order the right dishes as the place is always packed and some of the dishes other tables had ordered looked amazing. Good service and they are very efficient.
My experience at Sala Thai was a bit of a mixed bag. The atmosphere was excellent, earning a full 4 stars for creating a great environment. The food was also decent at 3 stars. However, the service was lacking, landing at only 2 stars, which brought the overall experience down to a 3-star rating for me. It’s a beautiful space, but the service needs a bit more attention to match the vibe.
We recently dined at this Thai restaurant and overall it was good, but not quite great. The food itself was solid — flavorful, nicely presented, and clearly made fresh. The Pad Thai was well balanced without being overly sweet, the noodles in the Pad Se Ew were delicious, however the “crispy duck” - as stated on the menu - I ordered on the PSE was not crispy at all. The skin was mushy, and it was one big duck breast sitting on top of the noodles. I was expecting it would be cut up and mixed in with the rest of the dish, as is done with the other proteins like chicken, beef, or shrimp. Portions were fair and everything came out hot and timely once we were seated. The only hiccup was with the reservation. We arrived about 30 minutes early and were told we would need to wait until our actual reservation time before being seated. While we completely understand policies around reservations, it was a bit frustrating when we were finally seated and noticed several empty tables around the dining room the entire time. It left us a little confused as to why we couldn’t have been accommodated sooner. Service was polite and efficient, and the atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable. Overall, it was a good experience with tasty food, but the rigid seating situation took away slightly from what could have been a smoother start to the evening.
Had a show at the Beacon Theater across the street, came here around 530 and got seated pretty quickly. The food (Pad Thai and Praram) had good flavors, the tables drinks were a hit or miss. The dessert was sad. Prices are high for small portions. The check hit the table the same time a shot glass sized lava cake did. It was ice cold and empty. No one touched it. When they came to collect payment they didn't even ask why it wasn't touched. I paid and she grabbed the paper receipt off the table, I selected a texted receipt from the machine and 48 hours later still haven't received it. The doorway is packed with delivery orders making the small bar area super crowded.
As you enter the restaurant it's cramped. They have a full bar as you walk in and it's tight. The dining area space has as many tables as you could fit and they have acquired and small area for more …

Ordered delivery and was surprised to see how high the reviews were for this place. Maybe I just got a bad batch but I would not recommend this place. I got the pad thai, massaman curry, calamari, and mango sticky rice. Pad thai was strangely flavored and was salty; there was no tamarind flavor. The curry was lacking in flavor and salty as well. The mango sticky rice was strange because the rice grains were congealed together. I like sticky rice but not a gelatinous dough. The calamari was good though. Of course it’s a little soggy being delivered but it was the most tasty out of everything else. Curry wasn’t horrible either. Maybe other ratings are by people who aren’t used to Asian cuisine or the sit in dining food is monumentally better but this was definitely not the best i’ve had. At least the drinks were well packaged and didn’t spill much. It’s not that bad but was definitely disappointed for an almost $150 price tag. So expensive for what it is.
Very good food and service BUT unbearable noise and awful acoustics. We were barely able to have a conversation during dinner. A very mixed experience.

Had to wait 30+ minutes for my table even though I booked beforehand. Very bad. This should not happen in 2023 in America.
5-Star Potential? Not Even Close – Major Disappointment for Authentic Thai I've visited Sala Thai twice now, hoping for the bold, authentic flavors I fell in love with during multiple trips to Thailand. Unfortunately, I still don't understand the glowing reviews—this place falls far short. If you've experienced real Thai street food or restaurant cooking, these dishes will feel like a pale, flavorless imitation: Curry puffs: Gooey, tasteless dough with no chicken filling detectable. Papaya salad (Som Tam): Flat and watered-down, completely missing the bright, punchy spicy-sour balance that defines the dish. Pad Thai: Dry, under-seasoned, and lacking any wok hei (that essential smoky char).—it had no tangy-sweet depth at all. The extra chicken I paid for didn't arrive either. Cashew chicken: Bland and underwhelming across the board. Everything tasted muted and uninspired. The lack of flavor made the whole experience very disappointing. I won't be going back, and I can't recommend it if you're seeking anything close to genuine Thai cuisine. 1 star (I'd give 0 if possible)
I ordered Pad Kea Mao from Sala Thai last night through Uber Eats and was completely disgusted to find a very long black hair mixed into the dish (photo attached). Uber Eats refunded me, but when I asked for a replacement dish - after walking 30 minutes to pick it up - they refused. I also tried calling the restaurant several times to let them know what happened, and they didn’t answer their phone once. Between the unsanitary food and the total lack of responsiveness, this was an unacceptable experience all around. I will not be ordering from here again.
The place is very cute and everything is tastefully decorated - food included. However, the food itself was a huge disappointment. None of the dishes we ordered tasted good nor felt fresh. I was looking forward to eat there based on good reviews and nice videos on Instagram, but I will not come back. There are plenty better Thai places in NY!

Sala Thai: Your Reliable Thai Spot in the UWS
There are certain neighborhood spots that just become part of your routine, a reliable friend when you need a good meal without a fuss. For many on the Upper West Side, Sala Thai is exactly that kind of place. Tucked away in the vibrant UWS, it's become a go-to for those seeking authentic Thai flavors, whether they're settling in for a quick dinner or simply ordering in after a long day.I’ve heard from plenty of folks, and my own experience echoes this: Sala Thai consistently hits the mark. Sala Thai: NYC's Cozy Corner for Stellar Thai
Stepping into Sala Thai in New York, you're immediately greeted by a vibrant energy that's hard to ignore. It’s a place that feels authentically bustling, a true snapshot of city dining. Some might find the entrance, with its full bar, a bit snug, and the dining area does maximize its space with tables, creating an intimate, lively setting. But here's the thing: that initial impression quickly gives way to something truly special.Despite any initial observations about the snug quarters, a cho
