Opinions de Bagel Talk New York
Never even knew this place existed. Their Gluten free bagels were delicious and fresh when i order from them. Recieved a new regular 😊❤🥯
Really pretty darned good bagels. Go early in the morning when they are fresh. Definitely no need to have them toasted. Try the plain with strawberry cream cheese. Yum!
FIVE STARS. One of the few authentic bagels in New York City. These are not rolls with a hole in the middle. These are bagels! And the line moves fast. Ignore the negative reviews. Ignore BlackSeedBagels. Ignore pick a bagel. Go here.
Wonderful! Came here on the advice of a “best bagels” article and was absolutely not disappointed. Got the ultimate nova on sesame.
The best of the best bagels in the city. The guys inside are also absolutely amazing!
I cannot understand the negative review on this place. The bagels here are the best I ever had. I love this place. Every time I'm in New York I'm going to Bagel Talk.
I'm sure there are better bagel places in the city, but this is my go-to place when I visit the city. Every time I go, it's always a great experience and I leave happy. Also, it's really close to Central Park, so you can grab it to go and do some nice walking.
Einstein Bros is my only place for Bagels. I go 3-4 times a month. The place I visit most offend is at 5705 N> University Drive in Tamarac, FL I buy 6 bagels to take home & freeze for later on. I also sometimes go with my wife and have their classic egg sandwich, Applewood Bacon & Cheddar with coffee and eat in. I have ordered lunch to take home their Albacore Tuna Salad with lettuce, sliced tomato, celery, red onion and mayo. On a bagel of course. It come with a side of fresh fruit salad. I get a 10% senior discount. Every little savings helps as well. The food always tastes fresh. service is quick and friendly. It always great to start the day with a Einstein Bros Bagel. PS I'm from Brooklyn and I know "Bagels".
Great bagels including really heathy and delicious fully whole wheat bagels and whole wheat everything Bagels. Also try their sunflower seed whole wheat flat bagels with her incredible especially when toasted! They do have a variety of vegan cream cheeses including plane vegetable and scallion plus others!
We were on our way to church and we needed a quick breakfast. This place had a line out the door, which wasn't hard to do. But it went really quickly, so don't be discouraged. Bagel sandwich was to die for. You could see them baking bagels fresh in the back. We will definitely be back!
I’ve had A LOT of bagels all over the world... but these are the freshest and best I’ve sunk my nashers into! Even my wife who’s the pickiest of eaters LOVES this place!!! Fresh orange juice to wash it down is an additional treat! Great value for money... would eat here more days a week if it was closer!!!
Delicious bagels- theyre definitely not stingy with the ingredients they use or the cream cheese. The orange juice was delicious as well, its squeezed in-house and is fresh (you can definitely taste the freshness). 10/10 and would definitely come again! If you're looking for a bagel stop- this is it!
Great place. Bagels are fresh. Toppings are varied. Really good food.
There was a misunderstanding with my order and they didn’t hesitate on giving me 2 new bagels and they even let me keep the ones they gave me first. Thanks so much! This is what I call customer service.
Great bagels made in house. I'm staying nearby at the Lucerne and it was recommended by their staff. I have gone every morning for a bacon egg and cheese
Popped in late afternoon for a quick bite The Bagel was great The service was excellent, server was great and even made sure I got a cold drink after I chose myself one that wasnt so cold (thanks) Enjoyed the bagel, was fresh, quiet and tasty salmon. Cld use some remodeling but recommend 100
If there's a cream cheese, this place probably has it. If you can stick it in a bagel, they sell it. Quick service, good food, friendly staff and somewhat decent (albeit drip) coffee. Come for the bagels though :)
Hit and miss. I had an absolutely flawless bagel here and then came back a couple weeks later and they forgot to put in our order and REALLY skimped on the cream cheese. So, it can be amazing. But it can also not.
Solid bagel/sandwich place. I did not taste them, but there were no less than 20 different cream cheese options. I enjoyed my honey turkey on multigrain bagel sandwich immensely, and they made the bacon extra crispy just like I asked.
The bagels are very good. They're not quite up to ess-a-bagel or pick-a-bagel levels, but I don't have to schlep across town for them either. The guys behind the counter are busy, so don't hem and haw in line. A good combo of tasty bagels and low pretentiousness. H&H on Amsterdam near 84th has better fish, I think, but worse bagels.
3.5. Doesn’t deserve the hate from some of these reviewers. Average bagels that hit the spot, and generally average NY/UWS prices. I do find it strange they charge an extra $2 for a flat bagel, which is the same thing as a normal bagel but squished prior to baking. They called me back in to charge me the extra after I’d already paid, acting like I’d tried to pull a fast one on them. Maybe it was listed somewhere but I didn’t see. My experiences in here have been semi-odd, so not my top choice in the vicinity
Good bagels with plenty of different options for cream cheese and bagel type. Ordered a lox and they gave a great amount of salmon.
Gluten Free bagels available! Can get quite crowded on weekend mornings. Fresh squeeze OJ is delicious. Lots of different cream cheese flavors -- jalapeno, cinnamon raisin, chocolate chip!
Convenient spot to grab a bagel in the Upper West Side. This place is more of a grab and go but they have a few seats inside. A variety of selection on their menu, something for everyone. Easy to customize. They have all kinds of bagel. A good spot to grab an easy breakfast. Service was quick and friendly. The nova special was a popular choice, filled with salmon lox, tomatoes and cream cheese. Very filling and simple.
Great spot. They do not like to toast the bagels usually. Although if you stop by mid to late morning they don’t seem to mind as the bagels are not as hot as they are in the AM. Staff moves quick so place your order, get to the front to pay, and then wait for your food to be ready. Bagels are great and very fresh. Quick easy and tasty breakfast or lunch!
Great place if you like your bagel crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Perfect size too, not too big. Highly recco the Everything bagel toasted with scallion cream cheeses. Definitely coming back!
Service is gruff and leaves a lot to be desired, but the egg white and bacon bagel was good. There are a few tables to sit at, but the place is very cramped. The strawberry cream cheese was just ok. Overall not too bad for the price.
Fast. Friendly. Ok prices depending on what you get. Great cream cheese. Decent bagels. Fresh squeezed orange juice (sold by weight ~$4-6 depending on how much juice you want) no public restroom. They accept credit cards. Ok amount of seating. Someone else accidentally touched my bagel for one second thinking it was theirs and they offered to make me an entire new one for it even though they didn't even open up the wrapper. (I said no thank you, it's fine because I was running a bit late already but the jesture was appreciated)
Solid bagels and do all day breakfast. Coffee is okay but not standout. If before 11:30am I'd say check out Lenwich around the corner where I prefer the breakfast and coffee. Bagel talk has a great selection of cream cheeses. Opens really early so this is my go to when I'm leaving the city early a.m. and need some food To go!
This is a great spot for an Ultimate Nova bagel. I've eaten here about five times. My only criticism is the price. I know Nova's not cheap though. It's been around since 1998 for a reason. They have plenty of options for folks that are gluten-free too which I appreciate. You won't be dissatisfied with what you get. It's worth the extra money that you pay. If you want something slightly cheaper you can go over to Zabars but you won't get the capers or onions or tomatoes. And sometimes you just want the whole kit and caboodle. There's a spot on 79th Street that serves the same sandwich with more Nova which is also nice. You also get a few more onions but this is just enough of each to make a perfect balance and not be spilling out of your bagel. That said, I noticed that my bagel was tougher and smaller than it's been in the past. You'll notice that the texture and size of the bagels at the aforementioned spot at 79th and Amsterdam, Zabars and Barney Greengrass are bigger and softer.
Food was good, moderately priced, but the manager was berating one of his employees for literally 20 minutes behind the counter which I found highly inappropriate. I don't know what she did to get into trouble but no one deserves to be treated like that in front of customers.
I just go there for the apple turnovers , they are amazing!!! Some of the staff look like they need a Doubleshot espresso to get them motivated. But overall a good place to eat .
Bagels themselves aren’t bad. But kind of overpriced, and it’s very unorganized when it gets busy. Ordered a very standard egg and cheese and they forgot to put in the cheese!!! Also I found out had my initial order had been grabbed by someone else when I checked in to see what was taking so long :(
Ordered a soft scooped out bagel and came home with a toasted, slightly burnt, not scooped out bagel. Also asked for cucumbers to be added to my bagel and got charged an extra 75 cents for 3 slices of cucumber, which I think it a bit ridiculous. I'll stick to Zuckers, not that they're so great either.
Service was pretty prompt. The sesame and cinnamon raisin bagels were fresh but had very little flavor. We added eggs and american cheese. Still very little flavor. I’m sure there’s much better bagel shops around but Bagel Talk gets an unexcited ‘OK’ from us.
I ordered a pastrami sandwich for takeout and there was only one slice of pastrami; rest was lettuce and tomato. For $15, it was not enough pastrami. However, the bagel tasted pretty good.
I’m new to the area, hardly get myself a bagel but decided to splurge. I got a Plain bagel with lox, cream cheese & tomato. The lox was good. The bagel was not fresh, unfortunately (hard and dry) and it took over 12 mins to pay from the order to getting rung up. Not the smoothest and the sandwich was unfortunately, a disappointment.
I walked past it and decided to stop and give it a try. I got a poppyseed bagel, with nova, and sun dried tomato & basil cream cheese. I also added capers. The bagel looks nice and was packed tightly. I love how the nova glistening in the natural lighting. The bagel was on the smaller side. The texture of the bagel was chewy, and perhaps too chewy. The flavor of the sun dried tomatoes and basil cream cheese was nice. It had a lot of sun dried tomatoes. I didn’t taste, not even a hint of, basil. The quality of the nova was pretty nice. It was clean tasting and sliced thinly. Overall, it was a nice bagel. The staff were nice, but I don’t understand why I have to give my order twice, once to the person who’s making the bagel, and then to the person who is in charge of charging. Also, I don’t know why they don’t make the bagels in order. I might come back, if I’m in the neighborhood.
This place charges $3 extra for a gluten free bagel so I expected it to be somewhat decent. Instead I got an oversized cheerio that was so dense and rubbery I’m pretty sure I burned calories attempting to chew it.
Inside of the bagel was too bready. Inconsistent cream cheese amount between my wife's and mine. There was a fake chemical like flavor coming from either the bagel or cream cheese.
Not sure why this place is always packed when so many better bagel options available nearby. Inside is dirty, machines for coffee look like they haven’t been cleaned in years, and bagels are worst in the area.
Honestly I've gone here several time and I'm usually disappointed with the bagels. They are efficient but the flavor just isn't there. Also does not seem that clean.
Two stars means it’s edible. Despite the line, service is fast. Sure the bagels are small and tasteless, but where I REALLY have an issue is paying $12 for that. Shouldve just put a $20 in the trash. Avoid
Credit for having vegan tofu cream cheese. Unfortunately, the bagels are lackluster and taste like something you’d get at a rural cafe somewhere.
The bagels are ok, but the service is terrible, they often get right out angry for very simple requests. Came more than once as it was next to hotel I was staying at, and each time they were rude and unpleasant
Impossibly bad service if you want your bagel toasted. Sometimes they will flat out refuse to do it, but they're always jerks about it. The bagels are decent, but you can get good bagels at a lot of places nearby so this shop isn't worth the hassle.
Beware, a pat of butter costs $2.50!! Solid bagel but overall negative experience, given that butter costs $2.50, which is more than the bagel itself! Further, the exorbitant butter pricing is tucked in the corner of an extremely busy, multi-panel chalkboard menu. I left feeling deceived and misled. Will not return. There are better bagel places that treat their customers fairly.
Food is fine but there are other places with the same or better food nearby that won't be so busy and will probably get your order right. The ordering is all verbal and requires repeating yourself, frequently, that then leads to errors. If you want an okay bagel that was made different than what you asked for, definitely go here.
Great Bagels/Frustrating Experience I really would like to give this place 5 stars because they do have great food, however every single time I go in here, it feels like an ordeal simply placing an order. The main point of my frustration is that they don’t seem to pay attention to you.. they ask what you want, and then like clockwork they turn away from you while you’re trying to explain the particulars of your order, missing the details of what you want, which subsequently leads them to asking you repeatedly what you ordered, like it’s your fault. God forbid you order more than one sandwich.. it’s like “ hellooo, I wasn’t finished!” They’re just kinda rude and I always leave there feeling angry and betrayed as a frequent customer.. maybe it’s time to find another bagel spot. And look, I’m not a timid person.. you always have to get to the point while ordering in nyc bagel shops, but if they’re just not gonna even pay attention to you then it doesn’t matter how seasoned you are as a fast talking New Yorker. Let the client finish explaining what they want before running away from them and you’ll save everyone time.
Dunno what to say really, it was just awful. Terrible service, they kept mistaking our order even though we just ordered off the menu. We eventually got what was supposed to be a $5.95 'Vegi Bagel' as just a stale bagel with cream cheese. They charged us $3.50 for what was supposed to be a $2 bottle of water. Really there's nothing redeeming about the place, just don't go there. Simple as that.
One-time visitor = one time too many. Terrible, lazy, bordering on rude service, and the bagels? Bad. Just ... bad. How you make a delicious, tasty bagel taste bad, I don't know. But Bagel Talk accomplished it. Avoid. Unless you like gross bagels and mean employees.
I thought I would give it a post-closure try. Ordered a bagel with whitefish. The bagel was good, but the whitefish was merely a think spread layer ... not a sandwich quantity. I thought it was lame. Counter guys were grumpy, not sure if this is new management but I don't remember them being so dour.
I ordered their goat cheese and cucumber sandwich. Was told they were out of goat cheese and they suggested I substitute chive cream cheese—I said ok. I get home to find that there was no cucumber on the “sandwich” at all, and so I ended up paying $8.50 for a plain bagel with chive cream cheese. Bagel itself was very good, but clearly there’s some issues with staff communication.
I have tried these bagels several times over the last few years, and each time was left underwhelmed. After seeing that it was recently ranked among the best bagels in the neighborhood, I tried again, and was once again disappointed. Although the bagels have a delightfully crisp exterior crust, the interior of the bagel does not have what I consider to be the proper texture, which is density and chewiness. Instead, it’s light and airy, and also not very flavorful. All right, I’ll say it, downright bland! In a neighborhood with other decent bagel options, such as Zabar’s, you can do better. And also, it’s among the most expensive.
My first impression is that the price and quality does not match. My bagel was not fresh. I specifically like my bagels not toasted so that I can enjoy soft bites but it was as hard as a rock and cold (probably sat in the fridge overnight). Latte was burned.
I only ordered an onion bagel toasted with cream cheese. I watched him take down the wrong kind of bagel and ignored me when I asked him to please make the bagel I asked for. I asked again at the register if it was an onion bagel, because it had been taken to the back to be toasted. The guy at the counter (not the first guy) said yes. I was almost out the door when I saw it was an everything bagel. I went back to the counter and they were rude about their mistake, and it took 10min to get an onion bagel made. Ridiculous.
The cooks were very nice. The dictator who checked me out was truly awful. Mediocre bagel. I will not be returning.
just two tourist girls (one who’s vegetarian, one who’s gluten free) we asked for egg and cheese bagels. I got the gluten free option which was a $3 up charge (nothing crazy but I had high hopes) my friend said EGG AND CHEESE. she was given an egg, cheese and SAUSAGE bagel. the staff seems very friendly but the menu wasn’t clear at all. The bagels were tasty but the experience was not what we expected from such high reviews.
Shady. They will overcharge you. I ordered an avocado BLT. It’s $11.99 on the board. They charged me $13.49 + tax for the food, and when I asked, they said the advertised price was wrong and I had to pay the higher price or leave the food. I left the food! The food isn’t even that good, so I probably won’t ever come back. There are better options that won’t rip you off.
Unfortunately, I don’t understand what these poor fellows leaving 4-5 star reviews are going on about. Once I was finished with my whole milk latte and chocolate chip cookie, I was left only with poor service and a scowling barista. My dearest companion and I were tormented for for ordering our most cherished lattes separately, and the barista pooh-poohed me when I requested a white-chocolate macadamia cookie (which, may I add, is right there in sans serif upon the battered menu board!). Overall, this experience was poor and all that remains is a scorched tongue and a broken heart. Colleagues, do abstain from visiting this unfortunate anomaly of the Upper West Side landscape.
Decent bagel, although my wife's gluten free bagel was a flat and pathetic joke that cost an extra $3, no kidding it was like a sticky potato chip. Update: thank you for your generic response, literally word for word what you wrote to my wife. It was the whole bagel that sucked, not just the size, I've chewed plaster easier than that thing you called a gluten free bagel.
Absolutely the worst bagels my wife and I have ever had. After a very long wait. I’m perplexed as to how so many people waited on line for this place. I will never be back. Bagels were stale and tiny. Lox was very fishy. Honestly, I can’t believe what I just experienced.
Not clean and not tasty. They have a card minimum of $10 and the bagels are hard with unspread cream cheese. Save yourself the trouble and take the extra couple minutes to walk to lenwich
They put virtually no vegetable cream cheese on my bagel. A real gyp. I was too far away to take it back or I would have
Tried to order from GrubHub they cancelled it bc they didn’t have an item on the order. I ordered an egg sandwich on a bagel and coffee. Yikes. That’s not a good sign.
The guy was very rude; bagel is small, hard and flavorless. the cream cheese is not spread well. very disappointed with the experience. Worst local bagel I ever tried!
The other bad reviews are actually true. Extremely expensive and very small gluten-free bagels for which you have to pay a 3 dollars surcharge. So many other good bagel places around to go to...
Honestly disappointed with today’s experience. White gentlemen does the same thing when I come in every time to get my daily sandwich from 4pm-5pm he always says “no more cold cuts” “no more hot cuts” why when he is not their the Spanish guys always make it no matter the time I come in? Honestly dissapointed with the service he gives, tall white chubby white guy with the only attitude. After addressing it today about his service he decides to Do. Why? Isn’t it his job to get things done no matter the time? I never realized their was a specific time you guys stop making sandwiches. I work across the stress in a restaurant as well and as a manager of my store I give 100% to any customer at that a loyal customer who comes in everyday. If I can give today’s experience less than a one star I would. The only person who helps me and gives me 100% perfect customer service is the Spanish guy always with a smile and no matter the time in the afternoon is never a huff or puff to make my sandwich!!
Other reviewers rave about their bagels. May be that was our mistake for not going with the crowd. We tried omelette and panini with turkey and swiss. Worst breakfast ever. Absolutely tasteless, like eating cardboard. Impatient staff. Finishing on positive note: at least it's clean and relatively cheap.
The bagels here left a LOT to be desired .. they might "Talk", but they definitely don't Walk. Even Andy's deli across the street has better bagels than here. I can't say much about the rest of the menu, but anything with "bagel" in your order, I would avoid.
Over priced gluten free bagels. You need to have extemely sharp teeth to bite through them. It was unorganized caos. They ask for your order, then the guy turns around and stops listening. Your left standing like a confused fool. When he's good and ready, you have to repeat it again, and again, at least 5 more times. Mind you I was ordering for 5 people, with different requests. When you are finally ready to pay, you have to repeat the entire order again, to top it off, they are very rude and absent of any customer service. After your blood pressure is elevated, they tell you to calm down in an extremely condescending voice. To think it could all be resolved by writing the order down in the first place.
I used to love this place. Bagels were always so fresh it would be a sin to toast. Simple bagel with butter and egg. Was toasted which I did not request, without butter which he confirmed I wanted and so flavorless I had to throw half of it out. And over $7. Scratch this place off your list. Plenty of other places to go for bagels.
I am 100 percent down on Bagel Talk. On my last visit, I ordered a flagel and asked for it to be toasted thinking it would be sliced in half like a regular bagel for two extra thin halves. I wanted thin and crispy, hence my ordering a flagel. No. They just halved it at the width and stacked it high, giving me more-or-less a regular bagel. Today, I thought I'd try a gluten free bagel. Again toasted with cream cheese. And it was the price of two bagels with cream cheese. I asked and it turns out they charged me the regular bagel/cream cheese price plus another $3 for the special bagel. So I've paid double the price for half the order. And then I see it -- it's half the size of a regular bagel and so gooey, there's no way it was ever toasted. Hey Bagel Talk -- let the buyer beware -- warn the next customer about your paltry size and double price. I'm placing my next order at Barney Greengrass. And ps - The only reason you're in business with these practices is because of your elderly neighbors and the kids from the local middle school looking for a cheap lunch out. Ugh. No more.
This past used to be one of the best on the UWS. I went today and they gave me such a paltry amount of cream cheese on my everything bagel that it is laughable. The bagels were also very dry and not fresh. I threw the second half away it was so bad. Disappointing to see such a good place slip so far.
Way too expensive for anything here and the bagel size is tiny. Please go elsewhere as there are many other bagel spots for better quality and price. I live right around this place but I will never go back.....coffee is also way too expensive. They are not also friendly at all....not worth spending your money here in every possible aspect.
Slow service. Very inefficient. I should charge them for waiting. When you buy a dozen bagels with nothing on them, they should take your money instead of spending 10 minutes waiting for an espresso and matcha tea to be made by the "barista" and cashier. I have walked out multiple times because of this stupidity. Rule #1 close the deal right away. Your customers should never wait long to "get the check".
Just went into this so-called business to order breakfast for me and my family (we were the only people in line), and when the "gentleman" behind the counter asked for my order, I briefly turned to my daughter to confirm her order. Then, I turned back to the "server" and began to order my four bagels and a croissant (not to mention the 7 drinks we were holding among us), and as I was speaking a woman entered the shop and the man taking my order, while I was in mid-sentence, turned and said to her "can I help you?", then he stepped away and began serving her, and when another customer entered he motioned her in front of me and began taking her order. We naturally put the drinks back and left, and as we walked out the guy shouted "okay, thank you" after us. Now, I am not sure what my family did to deserve being ignored and disrespected, but I caution anyone that this shop is rude to people who they judge as not good enough for their food. Went across the street to Bagels & Co. and was treated wonderfully and the food was great. STAY AWAY FROM BAGEL TALK!!
This place really isnt good. I get bagels every Sunday and thought I'd try it after Eater ranked 3rd on UWS. Was there about 8:30a and ordered Everything bagels that I'm pretty sure were from yesterday. They tasted stale and really weren't good. We bought 2 extra to have during the week and threw them out. There's just too many good bagel places in the neighborhood to waste my $ here. I wont be going back.
Truly terrible bagels. Maybe the worst bagel. I’ve eaten better frozen bagels. Stale, flat, and even taste bad. Go across the street to Bagels and Co instead, where you can get top tier bagels. I only went to Bagel Talk because they’re open on weekends. Will not be returning.
Avoid at all cost, just picked up 2 dozen bagels all of which were stale and hard as a rock. This place has gone downhill big time.
These were honestly some of the driest, saddest bagels I’ve had in the city, on par with crappy generic bagels you can find in a high school cafeteria or a hospital.
Dirty place with an old woman who rolls your eyes at you when you return a bagel order that was improperly done. Grow up lady! It’s not a personal insult, you just don’t know how to do your job right. I would not recommend this place for breakfast, rushed lopsided sandwiches and $9 orange juice. might as well go to zabar’s!!
Skimpy, dry, flavorless bagels. Order from here if you enjoy wide, gaping holes. If you look closely at this whole wheat everything, you will also notice it is covered in just sesame, poppy, and garlic. What kind of amateur doesn’t put salt on an everything? This place also charges extra for normal flavors like cinnamon raisin and blueberry. They are an embarrassment to local bagel spots.
