Opinions de Star On 18 New York
My favorite diner in NYC! It has retained its original feel of a true mid-century or earlier eatery with its counter space and booths. The menu is varied with generous and tasty meals any time of day. The service has always been great too! I loved to see the hand painted pictures on the side windows during seasonal holidays.
Stumbles across this diner..coffee great ice cream Sunday gorgeous tasting, also fab service&price..only place I never felt ripped off in price. I really wanted to go back to this diner but was too busy in other places. We will definitely reccomend this gaff to our friends&will definitely go back if we visit New York again. Overall great little traditional diner. Well done
My favorite diner in nyc. I lived there for 18 years and tried many dinners but this sweet, cozy spot is absolutely the best. The waiter is so nice and kind, serving fast and prices good for nyc. Food is just amazing- I loved eggs florentine (huge portion!) and drool just thinking of them. I love the way they make potatoes too. Great coffee and muffins. Miss that place and make sure I stop by each time I visit nyc
One of NYC's best secrets... In the meat packing district, right off the High line... $12.95 for a cheese burger deluxe, can't beat that! Waiters are welcoming, inviting and personable. Cut and dry, with no attitude. A must. Before it's gone. Like another New York Minute.
Simple back to basics diner where everything looks old and dated but is covered in charm. Great staff. Menu is overwhelmingly large. Perfectly crispy Hasbrowns are the highlight
A blast from the past. Food: American fare Service: friendly Atmosphere: frozen in time...
Tradicional place! We discovered it by coincidence and It was perfect!! The food was very good and the staff very kind!
Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. We’ll definitely be coming back.
The food was excellent. Lots of fresh blueberries in the pancakes. The French toast was also amazing. I loved the home fries. Really a great breakfast and reasonably priced for Manhattan.
Old school diner. Good food and service. I've stopped in several times.
Love love love it here! Stayed in NYC for 1 week and was excited to try out so many restaurants, we ended up going back to this one twice! The staff are friendly and it’s old fashioned diner vibes!
Great little diner. Homemade ranch dressing was so good. Great gyros and souvlaki. Sampler appetizer platter very good. Wings and onion rings have excellent flavor. Good fries.
Classic American Diner! If that’s the vibe you’re looking for definitely go there. First of all, a big variety of options, the menu was huge! The portions did NOT disappoint and the prices aren’t high. Value for money! 100% recommend!!!!
Great, freshly made and various dishes for fair prices. Also great service and very nice ambient. Definitely a recommendation if you don’t want to go for other way pricier options.
The experience is amazing every time I go there!
great service huge and delicious portions in the classic ambience
This was my first diner in NYC and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
What a gem! This is what a NYC diner looks like. Menu is HUGE, service is friendly and efficient. Food is solid and portions are generous.
What an amazing find in NYC! It was no wonder we found other families there who were evidently repeat customers. The food was good and there was so much that we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. This was not a place that served 1 sq inch of food on one sq mile of plate. The atmosphere had the comfortable charm of old diners. If you haven't eaten here yet, you should!
Best food place I went in NY by far, the waiters are the most gentle people you can imagine and their roast beef sandwitch is absolutely mind blowing, they even brought me a small pot with the gravy to bring it to the next level. Got there by mistake while I was visiting the highline and the edge!
Food was delicious. Big portions, really yummy, great service. Lots of variety on the menu, including options for vegetarians.
I was looking for a classic American diner experience — like the ones you see in movies, where the waitress tops off your coffee from a pot, and they serve burgers with fries and pancakes with maple syrup. This place is exactly that! Great atmosphere, super nostalgic vibe, and comforting, no-frills food just like you’d hope for. Loved it.
Nice diner. Good food, good service, good prices. It's a nice, airy atmosphere, and everyone with me thoroughly enjoyed their time here. It's hard to find a good diner in NYC, with good prices, and this place is a hidden gem! I've been looking forward to coming here again. Next time I walk the High Line, this is a must-dine!
It was great to be at old school place with fantastic food, reminds me scenes from few movies I had traditional burger during lunch time - excellent! prepared very fast with exceptional service! Definitely will visit this place during my next trip to NewYork!
I’m very fussy and I like this place. The 2 eggs any style are great and priced at $9.95, which is why I’ll be returning, because the price is fair and the food and service is really good. Just don’t change your prices please.
We went down to Chelsea and went into this diner. Its small but the food selection was pretty big. I got the Thanksgiving wrap. I loved the way they toasted the wheat wrap. The turkey was very moist and the stuffing and cranberry sauce, yum! It was delicious!! I also had sweet potato fries. Everything was very satisfying. Next time I am in the neighborhood I will try something else. I can't wait.
Had a fabulous breakfast, eggs sunny side up, ham, fried potatoes and corned beef hash! Full of flavour and the waitress was lovely. Highly recommend if you want good food
For the location this place offers decent price. The food is good and the milkshakes is definitely the highlight, I love the milkshakes here more than Big Daddy's which is known for their milkshakes. I'd go here any time of the day to get a milkshake here. Service is ok. It's a very convenient location if your hanging out on the highline.
I enjoyed fluffy French toaste with perfect well done 🥓. My daughter enjoyed her delicious looking Mykonos Style Greek Salad with tomatoes, nions, cucumbers, peppers, feta cheese with homemade Greek vinaigrette with imported extra virgin olive oil and chicken. Enjoyable, comfortable and clean in an old style atmosphere diner with excellent service.
What a great spot! The food was tasty, and the servings were huge, leftovers made for an excellent lunch the following day. The place had that cozy, old-school diner atmosphere that’s hard to find these days. I can see why people keep coming back. Highly recommend!
Small NYC diner. Service was fast. No wait for tables. Food was tasty and menu offered plenty of options. Our waitress was especially cordial and pleasant.
I went with my bestie for dinner. The Greek Chef Special of Lentil soup was delis. I had Spanokopita(Spinach Pie) and Greek salad. Margaritas had steak quesadilla with yellow rice and black beans My Iced Tea was served in. A vintage mug like my father used to have. Roberto our waiter was amazing. I can’t wait to go back.
When our family came for dinner we were not expecting such good food! It was Thanksgiving, so my wife had holiday turkey and 2 great pies. Kids which are usually very picky eaters were totally happy with a salmon and chicken. Waiters were super friendly and nice. You should check out this place!
This diner must have been there for around 50 years, give or take. I was not a customer at this diner prior today. However, the restaurant allowed me to use the restroom few times before I decided to sit in there and eat. today, I stopped in and I decide to order The Greek Gyro platter with french fries and Greek salad. With 2 Pepsi’s. The food was so good to a point where it tasted like a grandma had made it. And, nothing like a taste of grandma’s food. Of course, mother‘s food are always great, but grandma‘s food are even greater. And the best part is , the view of this beautiful painting across the street from where I was sitting. See picture below to see for yourself. The waiter, Roberto was amazing , very polite. I would definitely eat there again.
After visiting Chelsea Market and the High Line, Star on 18 caught our attention as a dining option. While my companions opted for breakfast, I chose the Reuben Sandwich, served with fries. I also ordered an iced tea. The Reuben featured toasted bread, sauerkraut, and tender pastrami, accompanied by a sauce on the side. Our server recommended adding mustard to the sandwich, a suggestion I followed. The blend of hearty, sour sauerkraut, tender pastrami, and flavorful mustard within the toasted bread created a rich taste experience. The thick-cut fries, to which I added some more salt, were a pleasant accompaniment. Overall, I was satisfied with the meal. The service was prompt, attentive, and patiently answered our questions with a smile. I recommend Star on 18, especially given its reasonable prices for a popular tourist area.
We spotted this place from The High Line. My family were a little nervous as it’s next to some wasteland and you can’t see inside from the street! With a little encouragement I demanded we go inside as it looked like a proper authentic NYC experience! For once, my demand was met!! It quickly became our favourite place to eat in NYC, in USA, in the whole world! This isn’t a 5 year old diner made to look like a USA diner! This is the real thing. Photos on the wall of the diner from years ago, amazing food, lovely staff and food you don’t need to remortgage a property portfolio in London to afford (which is unusual for NYC) We returned again whilst in NYC and loved every second of it. I had the best burger I’ve ever had and we all loved it, Compare this to Chelsea Market where you’ll pay 4 times as much for half as much food…. Please go to Star on 18…. Book your flights immediately! 😀
It is so nice to find an old-school diner in the Big Apple, considering so many classic diners have bit the dust. Those that have not often charge such exorbitant prices that you'd think you were eating at a Michelin star restaurant. This diner did not disappoint - we went at an off time after traditional lunchtime, so we received exceptional service. The food was excellent and the prices were reasonable. My 2-year-old granddaughter had a grand time rubbing butter on her lips like lipstick and squealing with joy. While two older women weren't amused, the waiters didn't blink an eye! I will definitely go back here on my next trip to NYC to visit my daughter and granddaughter.
We noticed this place from the High line and we went there because we found Chelsea Market too crowded and noisy. What an amazing decision to visit this place. Very friendly staff and great food. We all ordered something different and all of it tasted great. Size of the portions were also very good. If you're in the area and hungry, you should definitely stop here!
Small diner with great service. We come here to get lunch a few times a year. The portions are generous for the prices. Meals that come with soup or salad are a good deal. The soup is a generous bowl size and great starter. Meatloaf with mushroom gravy is my favorite. Steamed veggies and fries are my go to sides. The fries taste unsalted and baked. I’ve had the baked potato side as well. I douse on the condiments here. The garlic bread that comes with this is very basic diner style quality. I wouldn’t think it was garlic bread because it really tastes like plain toasted bread. But the meatloaf is my favorite. The Greek Spinach Pie was delicious with the Greek salad and side of soup. Then it happened. The cook brought out hot fresh corn muffins from the oven at 2pm. We smelled the corn muffins. We saw it. We got it. We asked for honey and butter to go with it. Otherwise the muffin came with grape jelly and butter. We inhaled the muffin like it was dessert. $4.50 for an oversized house made corn muffin. The man seated next to us also got a muffin. The waiter had a good handle on his patrons. As if he could predict what we needed, he’d ask us before we needed to ask him. Amazing service. Edit: I noticed my latest dining bill included a $2.50 charge after items are added up. Then this total is taxed. If you pay with credit card, you are charged an additional tech fee. Great place to go for groups of 4 or less.
Really cool atmosphere. Typical diner food but a really cool spot, if you've ever seen the Tick Tick Boom movie, this looks like the diner from there. The wait-staff was super nice and everything was good.
Nice little diner offering a wide variety of American and Greek food options (for example, Moussaka). This is a good place to take a family because you're guaranteed to probably find something on the menu that everyone will like, including even impossible burgers for vegetarians. However, don't expect anything out of the ordinary. The food is good, but not extraordinary or memorable. The decor is fifties-themed and it looks like they've been there for a very long time.
After battling the mass if visitors at Chelsea Piers I went looking for something nearby that was quiet and cheap. The Star on 18 was perfect. Quick service, reasonable prices and excellent value for money. For the record I had a Ruben sandwich with pastrami and real chips, not those thin and anemic fries most places serve up (see image).
We stumbled onto this diner after coming off the High Line. I had a wrap here that was fantastic, and the fries were wonderful. My wife has a vanilla egg cream that tasted like the ones 60 years ago did, during the World's Fair when a subway token cost 15 cents and a pizza slice was a quarter. Oh, the memories! Try this place, you'll like it!
Great food and service. Well located. Only kill buzz was the door has a broken spring and allowed to slam shut every time a client entered and left. I guess New Yorkers are used to noise. 😈
Classic and I mean classic Greek diner. Excellent food for this type of place. No frills. Inexpensive. They have sweet potato fries and at reasonable price as a substitute. AND grits are one of the options with egg dishes ... and they are very good.
It's a local diner - nothing fancy, but the food is consistently well-prepared and the service is friendly. It's just off The Highline, so lots of tourists find there way to it. For us it's a good solid NY diner.
Had breakfast there today , had a good experience. The food prices is reasonable. Service is prompt, the ambiance is a nostalgia. Highly recommend. Food portions are good and tasty. Try it out. Please be aware there is fee for credit card , which I did not appreciate. This affect from giving the restaurant a five stars.
Tight knit, cheap food , hard working Latinos who are very friendly. But not my taste level.
Good food, the omelettes were delicious and fresh, good hot coffee. Service fine. Not fancy or chic but solid diner motif.
The food was good, but the service made it a bad experience. I understand that NYC is a fast-paced city, but the staff seemed to provide service like if they were a car with no brakes. When my order was served I wasn't provided with many of basics like silverware.
It was hot as heck in there and to make matters worse, the server was a total jerk. I've been coming here for years and never had a problem, but the female server was rude and had a massive attitude for no good reason. She was incredibly mean and dismissive because I was taking a minute to figure out what I wanted and how I wanted it cooked. Makes me never want to step foot in this place again.
We went here on a warm day, and because we had our dog we sat outside. One of the waiters set us up with a couple of extra chairs so the four of us could sit. The service was slow and we were surprised because it wasn't busy inside the restaurant. The bathrooms are tiny, and the food was OK. I am a vegetarian and ordered the fettuccine without chicken, but it still came with chicken. If we had more time, I would've sent it back and waited, but we were on a tight schedule. We probably won't go back.
I've been working in the area for 20 years. This place used to be good.. now it's awful..$24 for a hamburger rings and a tiny chocolate shake.....this place is done for me...awful....slowwwww
Check my pictures out.Every time I order it's a different price probably stole $50 in fake taxes from me already. There's only certain foods I trust from this place don't get the New York cut shell steak if you ever heard about people gluing steaks together this is one of those places when I was removing my steak from the takeout to my plate it fell into two pieces you can see where they glued it together. Pork chops are Superdry and tasteless I ordered them twice both times Superdry but I give a 5 star for the Apple stuffing very delicious. The burgers taste good if you have the lettuce tomato cheese ketchup and toppings but if you take a bite of just the burger alone it has a weird taste to it my girlfriend said it's probably not real meat she said this is why they don't ask you how you want it cooked I like medium well but they always overcook it which makes me think that it probably isn't real meat. Or maybe a mixture of meat and something else. The milkshakes are a joke half of a cup is filled with foam real ice cream shouldn't be foamy. Chicken cutlets are delicious the salads are always fresh chicken salad was delicious I always ordered a breakfast combo but this will be my last meal from this place I don't deal with Crooks
Great looking diner and cuisine. However, it took 45 minutes to deliver my scrambled eggs and sausage breakfast. And the place wasn’t busy. Major service FAIL.
$70 for what tasted like school lunch food and I’m not even exaggerating, if you like your food unseasoned this is your spot. A plate of just tenders (no fries) is $20, fries are another $8.50. &&& to top it off there was no heat on a 15 degree day.
