Great food, great atmosphere. Staff was extremely accommodating to our needs (we were a large party). I've had multiple special occasions here and they've always been very friendly. The food is excellent. This is my go to for any Japanese food craving.

Delicious food and nice service. If you are beef-lover, I recommend beef roll with scallion.

This is a go-to place for me. I’m always searching for the best restaurants - I don’t have enough time or money for subpar food. Only the best of the best gets added to my rotation. And this place is firmly in my rotation and it has been for a while. Always good. Honestly I waited too long to write this review, they deserved it right off the bat. Spicy tuna crunch roll is the best I’ve had. Highly recommend.

Phenomenal experience and food. Checked it out while visiting Albany based on reviews from reddit and they did not disappoint. My only regret was not being able to try more of their menu!

Excellent service. Delicious, authentic Japanese food. Spacious, clean & relaxing ambience. I'm so glad I chose this place to treat my guests who drove 3 hours to visit me--they enjoyed everything this restaurant has to offer. Will definitely recommend it.

I have ordered take out from here several times but just ate inside recently. Very nice atmosphere and attentive waitstaff. Prices are very reasonable. Very clean, they had hand sanitizers on each table which I really appreciated. Food was delicious as always there was a promotion when we went for $5 cocktails, they were delicious but strong so plan accordingly.

Wonderfully prepared food, very calm quiet peaceful environment, with a very respectable environment and atmosphere, amazing quick and kind service, the food was well prepared and was very delicious. They take good care of their foods and their customers as well. This place is the perfect spot for a formal respectful dinner, I would highly recommend

The atmosphere was cool but the food was fantastic. The rolls are made to order and tasted great. The portions are pretty big as well so be mindful on what you order. And if you like pork dumplings give those a go here... you won't regret it.

we had a lovely experience while we were driving from Buffalo to Boston. the ambiance is really nice, bathrooms are clean and the food is awesome. we had a Maki, a salad and some sushi and the rice to sushi fish ratio was excellent

The sushi lunch box was almost perfect. It came with 2 rolls, soup, 3 dumplings, and a salad. The only negative was the dumplings were kinda cold, but they were still delicious. The people working there were very nice and the food was packaged well. No spilling! Reasonable price, I’d be interested in dining in at some point.

Went there on a Saturday night and the place was packed. The woman that served us was actually the hostess who was doing what she could to keep everything moving. She did a great job. The food was also delicious, which I guess is pretty important. My son recommended this restaurant which tells me that my son is pretty smart.

I’m sick of the poor quality food of Japanese buffets restaurants so I did some googling. And I’m glad I chose to try Sushi Tei. We ordered some salmon sashimi, edamame, old tofu, angry dragon roll & salmon lover roll. All are great taste. The best i think it’s the angry dragon roll, the layers of tastes combined perfectly. We ordered some hot sake and coffee as well, and the bill was only $82 before tips. Love the price! Overall, it’s a great place to have sushi & sashimi👍

What a nice dining experience! I stopped in hoping I would find some rice bowls - so few Japanese restaurants have them these days. I lucked out with a spicy gyu donburi. Since I’ve been trying to learn to make tamago, I tried the tamago. It was lovely - especially with the nori wrap and perfectly seasoned rice. I’ve not even tried it with wasabi, so that was an eye-opener. The tamago itself was balanced and robust. The spicy gyu donburi was also balanced and robust. They’re not kidding when they say spicy, and it was nice to get something so zesty. Even the mural was entrancing. Check it out.

Excellent experience. The music was relaxing and on-brand, the waitress was prompt and considerate, the special was delicious. Salmon over sushi rice with Salmon roe and shrimp tempura udon on the side. Yum! They brought over pineapple slices for a little dessert on the house, no idea if that's typical but it was lovely. In and out on my lunch hour. Definitely will be back.

BEST FOOD IN THE CAPITAL AREA HANDS DOWN!!!!! I've tried all the other ramen bars that have been popping up, they're efforts are valiant, but no one has yet to top the experience and flavor that sushi tei delivers. I travel to Boston a lot and even the shops there don't quite cut it for me. This place holds number 1 in my heart and stomach for food in the capital area.

This is one of the few true Japanese restaurants in the state of NY. There are countless mediocre sushi restaurants everywhere, but this place does it right while offering a variety of other traditional Javanese food. The ingredients are fresh and the flavors right. Staff is attentive and friendly. The restaurant is very clean. Highly recommended.

One of the best sushi places I've ever been to. It's great for not only sushi, but also Japanese food. There are a lot of traditional menu items on their menu that either you can't find in other Japanese restaurants in the area, and if you can, I don't think they get much better than Sushi Tei's. For takoyaki, I think this is my go to place. Their sushi rolls are extremely good as well, as are their Donburi bowls. Highly recommend if you have a date night or you just want to treat yourself to some superb food!

M
Michael Cuciti

Food here is excellent! Very reasonable prices too! We got two appetizers and two entrees plus dessert for under fifty dollars. Very good vegetarian options (the kimchi udon was out of this world. Highly recommended if you like kimchi). Taiyaki was AMAZING and hard to come by in the area so it's great to see a place near the capital region doing it so well! I definitely recommend checking this place out!

Consistently excellent food and friendly atmosphere. I travel all over the country and this remains one of my favorite places for sushi. My favorite specialty roll is their "Pirate Roll", a hot, gooey, roll of deliciousness.

Staff was nice- except for one server, he was a tad odd. Nice bar, cool interior design throughout. The sushi took a while before they served it, but the quality and taste was great- you can tell it was fresh. The exterior of the restaurant isn't much, but they definitely made up for it, on the inside. Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream was alright, but the Regular Green Tea Ice Cream was better. No all-you-can-eat sushi option. Lots of sushi options. Recommend for sushi lovers.

This was the first time I dined in. I've previously ordered take out and enjoyed it. The restaurant has revamped and the ambiance, decor, and service are great. Our waitress was very attentive, answered our many questions, and provided some excellent guidance. The food was great. Enjoyed the fresh Shrimp Shumai and well-balanced Miso Soup for an appetizer. We then enjoyed a bowl of Chicken Katsu-Don, 007 Roll, Salmon Lover Roll, Hawaii Roll, and New England Roll. The meal was rounded off with a Green Tea ice cream tempura. Each of the rolls was well made and delicious. The 007 was a personal favorite as I enjoyed the contrasting textures of the soft inside and crispy outside. Two minor critiques - the fried oyster in the New England roll had a slight bitter taste, which probably came from oil that had been one or two too many times. The Green Tea flavor in the ice cream was a bit strong for our personal tastes, but that's entirely subjective. I look forward to coming back and introducing more people to the plethora of options Sushi Tei has to offer.

The owner couple lived in Japan nearly 9-10 years and they know what they are cooking and the food is authentic Japanese food of course. I love their hot noodles and the soup is the best in the area! I'm originally from Japan so I'm telling you the truth, they are real good!

Very polite staff and amazing sushi at a fair price. Came to Sushi Tei on a Sunday night around 7pm and it was packed. Nice atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. We did have to wait a while for the food but that's understandable as it was so busy. The food was worth the wait. Ordered a "Winter Wonderland" roll as a appetizer (shrimp tempura w/seaweed salad and scallops). For the entree we had a crazy good beef donburi and a sinful tempura ramen. Alcohol was also fairly price. Total came to $65 for 2 entrees, 2 drinks, and sushi. Definitely coming here again!!!

Such a great sushi spot! A wonderful portion of fish to rice. Fresh flavors and attention to detail! The rolls I had were balanced with flavor, excellent rice and fresh fish. I had takeout but would definitely dine in next time. Attentive staff and a warm atmosphere were evident.

discovered Sushi Tei randomly last year, and it’s now my favorite place to get sushi; and I drive from an hour away. the sushi is always on point, and we appreciate their creative rolls. hot food is also great here, although the sushi keeps us coming back. the wait staff is very attentive, and will visit back to your table several times, and will help with any request - even if it’s to find out how they made the gyozo sauce. interior is well decorated and comfortable - may be a little cold for some, especially the ladies. bathroom is very clean.

idk what happened to the old review i posted so i’ll write a new one. this is my favorite restaurant, it’s clean, the food is always good, and everyone is always super friendly and generous. my favorite things on the menu are the mermaid roll, shrimp shumai, tonkatsu ramen with a little bit of oil, and the volcano salad.

This was a refreshing stop on the road to check out! (Sorry!) I didn't take a picture of the HaruMaki. The HaruMaki is a crispy, tasteful, crunchy roll which I munched off of on every bite. I enjoyed eating the chicken katsh curry dish. The mochi Mango dessery dish was a pleasure to have as a follow-up to end my meal at Sushi Tei. Also, the waiter offered wonderful service and was attentive to my needs.

My husband and I have been looking for a new sushi place in Albany to try, and Sushi Tei was recommended to us. It is definitely worth its good ratings. The service was fast and attentive, the sushi selection was very reasonably priced and delicious, and the kitchen options were not just your typical sushi/hibachi fare. There were donburi bowls to choose from, as well as Japanese curry, which was very exciting to see!

Had to wait for my daughter to be done with work so I looked for a place nearby. I instantly fell in love with its cozy and welcoming atmosphere. I purchased the dinner bento with the 2 rolls, appetizer, soup, crab salad and fruit. It was delicious. I ended up ordering more food to go as I had to leave to get my daughter. I would recommend Sushi Tei to everyone.

Review time! We looked on google and said let’s try this place, it’s pretty close and seems to be okay. as soon as parked and entered, changed my mind from Okay to This seems a cool place. very nice and warm design, great atmosphere for hangout, party or dates. I ordered beef ramen and i have to say Absolutely best ramen 🍜 ever had in the region 🤤. Menu: They have large menu for drinks , for sushi, and also specials for the days. dessert menu is outstanding, you can ask or look for anything you want. Please take look at pictures I updated. I have to say I LOVE Sushi Tei! 😁 Reasonable price, authentic cuisine, good customer service, large portions and MUST place to eat if you like Japanese food! Also, sushi and sashimis are delicious 🤤! Outstanding, highly recommended to anyone for any occasions. Enough parking spot if you are coming here as group for party 🎊 🎈 🎉 or etc. special party room for family and private surprises. they have separate cozy waiting room with light music for you. if you are waiting, order a drink and warm up for sushi 🍣 🍱 😅 I would say one of most amazing place to eat. Liked. the diversity of menu. Quantities substantial. Very good service. A steady but manageable flow of customers. I suspect with a bar that Friday and Saturday would be more lively. We're in Albany from Massachusetts for other scheduled events but met friends for dinner. Recommended.

Best sushi ever! Also, my first sushi in NY, and yes, the fish is better in New York! Spider roll, mackerel roll, crab and eel/avocado rolls were all great! Had a tap beer. Microbrew from CT. A little expensive at $9.50, but was very good, and with tip at $50 I was definitely satisfied!!!

Wonderful experience dining here during UAlbany's Family Weekend this past weekend. Came here on a Friday after 7p and we were seated right away. Server was helpful and knowledgeable on the various sushi rolls and dishes. The sushi was fresh and delicious! The salmon teriyaki bento box was good! It didn't come with the usual California rolls as other bento boxes I have had at other establishments. It came with my choice for a house salad. Everything was delicious and priced well! Will definitely return when in the area

My go-to Japanese place! I probably come at least once or twice a month. I take my friends and family here whenever they come to the area. Extensive and authentic menu, my go-to order is the sushi deluxe or sushi sashimi combo. The fish is fresh, the fish to rice ratio is also delightful, never too much rice. I’ve not ordered a bad item from the menu. Will continue to visit!

I'm here often, a big fan for sure. The ramen here is also one of the top 3 of at least 20 mi. Of Albany! Just called in a day prior to book a reservation for 17 people. Not only were they able to accommodate, but the service was incredible! We had a blast and all the staff was amazing! Food took very little time. It was prepared well and tasted incredible!

Hands down the best sushi in the capital district. If I could eat here multiple times a week I would. When you walk in you are immediately welcomed with a delicious aroma and a smile from the nicest staff. Every item we’ve tried has been phenomenal. Service is excellent. The staff are friendly and sweet people. It can get busy on Fridays and Saturdays, but be patient— it’s worth the wait. The spicy tuna crunch roll melts in your mouth. The pizza roll is a fun choice. Appetizers and soups are great. Everything is high quality and visually stunning.

Favorite Japanese restaurant in Albany. I love this place. I come here all the time for lunch. The food is amazing and the staff are so nice. Edit: So I just devoured the sushi in the image I posted with this review and that was the greatest sushi I have ever had, and I have had a lot of sushi. Just wow... So flavourful!! They even gave me fruit after I was finished eating! I'm gonna keep adding photos of the amazing food.

Found this place after I was overwhelmed by the Christmas crowds at Cross Gates Mall, it's just down the road from the mall. It was the perfect retreat and it was not too packed. They have a fantastic menu and the selections that I've tried so far have all been really well done and super fresh. I've been a half a dozen times and haven't even scratched the surface of what they have to offer. The draft beer selection of Japanese domestic brews is top notch, and the sushi bar is professional as they come. They have a cool back room that I think you can rent out for an authentic Japanese dinner party. 10/10 so far. Goin back(thirty min drive) to get another lunch special and a brew! Cheers y'all!

Update: So I should update my review. Since my last review, the owner reached out and helped get things squared away with the double charge so I do appreciate it. It did take quite some time to get it fixed but I am just glad it is done. Again, the food isn’t bad, service isn’t bad, place is clean. Prices for the dishes were reasonable. I just had a bad experience at the payment stage. Original: I came here with a group of friends for a lunch. I wanted to be nice to my friends and treat them all to a meal. We had a good time and had no complaints on the service or the food. It was actually quite nice. The issue I have is with what happened at payment. Things seemed to be normal, but the manager at the time said the machine restarted and the payment didn't go through. I checked my application and it showed "pending". But she ran it again. I was a bit confused, but they assured that they will chargeback the amount. Well, I got charged twice. It posted twice on my card. I called and they again reassured me that they will chargeback the amount. It's been 2 weeks. They hung up on me twice since the initial call. They didn't notice a second large charge at the end of the day? Or week? Just left a horrible feeling with this place. I would not trust them again and double check your card statements.

I’m not an authority on sushi but everything here is consistently fresh and tasty. I have two minor issues-they don’t make ramen without meat or meat stock, and a long time pet peeve is that they charge for each soda refill. Still the go to for sushi in this area. Recommend shrimp shumai, gyoza, crab salad, and rolls including California, Philadelphia, avocado and peanut. I’m not into sake, but they look like they have an amazing variety.

Even though the food is good…I have to give it a1 star because I asked for Gluten Free and it was NOT. I was horribly sick for 2 days and had to miss work. If you need GF, I would NOT go here. This was one of the worse attacks ever. I now changed my review to 4star because the owner, Freddy reached out and politely wanted to “make it right” and figure out what happened. I value that . I appreciate that. I frequent this restaurant often and would like to keep it that way. No hard feelings. A good restaurant owner would WANT to know this and Freddy did! So that is a good and responsible restaurant owner to me! I will go there again!

My family has been going to Akanomi for quite some time, but we have heard a lot of great things about Sushi Tei. I was slightly disappointed and really wanted to like it. I ordered a special roll that had tempura, but my roll was only warm and not very crunchy. The appetizers though had larger portions and had good flavor.

B
Brittany Lopato

I've ordered from here a few times but today I dined in for the first time. I thought the food was pretty good and it's really awesome that they had 1$ sushi deal to celebrate their 13th anniversary. The avocado roll was hands down the best and I highly recommend it.

The dragon roll and seafood udon was great. Get the inari too; inari is great anywhere (it's sweet tofu skin pocket filled with sushi rice)

S

Good sushi place in the area. Compared to Kuma Ani, the rolls are more traditional and comes with more fish than rice. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for an authentic experience. Comparing the Sashimi from Sushi X (Here in the picture we ordered 20 pieces--picture with cucumber sticks) to the sashimi here (look how big and thick one slice of salmon is).

R
Rob

Another great sushi place to add into the rotation. The decor is full of Old world charm that you wouldn't expect from the outside. A lot of appetizers that you don't normally see in other restaurants in the area. The Miso soup was excellent and very filling and the couple rolls I had were just as good.

k

Sushi Tei has a trendy interior and is popular place for lunch. It turns tables quickly and had good service throughout. Their onion soup was flavorful with many slivered mushrooms. The 🍣 rolls were okay, but ther Tuna Takaki had sour ponzu sauce. The Oyako Donburi was a sumptous bowl of chicken and vegetables. I'll time my next visit with their upcoming Japanese Whiskey feature.

V G

We came with a large group of 15 people. They were able to accommodate us fairly quickly and they gave a private room. Large parties get 18% gratuity automatically. In private room it is up to 20%. Food was good. Miso soup has more scallions than usual but still good. Some order mistakes were made but we took it.

The food was okay. Nothing in particular stands out from other sushi restaurants. The service was subpar. We felt like an inconvenience being there. Definitely didn’t feel welcome or like we were appreciated. This was our first time coming and I don’t think there will be a next time.

Calm, no-nonsense restaurant with good food and bad service. I love the interior and the relaxed music. The service is too slow though. Last time I went we spent way too much time waiting to place our order and waiting for the check.

I ordered to pick up. I ordered the chicken and shrimp teriyaki. For a $23 dish I was expecting a decent sized meal. It was a tiny small portion. It is advertised with soup or salad, and rice and noodles ... Didn't get either a soup or a salad and no noodles! The person who handed out the order was very friendly and polite but this was ridiculously expensive for what it was and half of what is advertised wasn't there. Unfortunately, I'm not ordering here again.

Bartender seemed to disregard me since I was ordering take out when I did order it was reported back to me with his back to me then a receipt thrown at me to make sure everything I ordered was correct. I was asked by a server if I needed anything to drink when I was responding the bartender interrupted and said I was there for take out, got it but I wouldn’t mind something to drink in the mean time. Food was average nothing to write home about for the price I paid to take out.

My mom and I ordered Sushi Tei through Mealeo tonight and it is was fully not worth the money. The spring roll was barely cooked and almost no filling in it. Biting into you just tasted oil, no crunch or other flavor. We tried ordering 3 sushi rolls but one was cancelled and refunded with no explanation. Of the two rolls we ended up receiving, they were falling apart and were overall poor quality. Through Mealeo, with delivery and tip, our meal was over $40 and it was barely edible. I've eaten at Sushi Tei in the past, and have had takeout several times, and usually it is quite good and reliable. It was definitely shocking to receive such low quality this time. In the past, I would have recommended it but I'm not sure I would do that now

Horrible. The waiter was rude. Made me move out from my seat because an employee wanted to have lunch there. Not helpful also. Never coming back.

Terrible... first time and last time . My to go sashimi and sushi , looked like it was prepared hours before . Raw fish was looking dry , and the scallion on top was drying out. Never had a piece of sushi with skin on. Never . Tuna tataki , was very thin and very dry . You should not have to cover the taste with Wasabi. I know there is a clientele crisis, but it is wrong on every level,to get something that isn't fresh, especially we talking about raw fish. Plus is isn't very cheap, paid $43 for this. I only ate very little and I threw the rest away. I am gladly willing to pay whatever for good food , but not for this . I am really sorry, I hate written bad reviews... but the fishy smell is too strong for me.

I ordered today using delivery. This restaurant delivered the wrong food. When I called them they were very rude and argumentative. I paid $46.00. I ordered tempura soba but received tempura udon. Photo uploaded. I did eat the Gyzo it was bad. Spoiled meat. Greasy vegetables. I would give this 0 stars if I could.

Sushi had a decent taste but not only they forgot half of our order (we waited almost an hour) but also when we requested bill, we had to ask 3 different people for bill and waited about 20 min for that as well. It's okay to forget the order ( Even though it was written on the sheet that was given to us) , the main problem is that we didn't receive the bill when we asked for it and had to wait for that as well.

We spent a good time there. I paid and left some tips. When I was coming out the host asked me why was so little tips and that I must left from 20%. That was Chinese guy. I was so surpprised that didn’t know what to say. He began to scream on me when I was leaving the restaurant «sir ,sir ,sir… wait, I said you wait. We will charge more from your card». I’ve never met such situation in my life. I noticed not friendly views from him but he was really angry. Just imagine people, you paid the bill, left tips and the host put you in situation where you are greedy man. All my impression was spoiled. I was assuming that Chinese people always want maximum tips from you, but that I didn't thought that host would scream on me that I must left maximum. So you are welcome to Sushi Tei guys if you want to test your self how greedy you are ))

We just received our takeout order. Simply 2 rolls, a chicken entree, soup and salad. It came to close to $50, including the delivery fees and tip. So, about $40 of food. The portions were horribly small for this cost. We expected much more. We will never order delivery/takeout from here again, even if it's delicious.
