Opinions de Sushi Yoshizawa New York
I’ve had the best Omakase at Takeda. I’m Japanese and this is one of my favorite place now. The space is quiet and intimate with focused art of serving. Takeda-san puts a lot of seasonal flavor to the course, it’s beautiful and delicate. You will not regret going there, it’s one of my favorite omakase sushi.
Absolutely fantastic. Top quality. Sushi and corse items are all great. A grilled lobster was ace! Highly recommended.
Good food, great service, chill environment, but price over quality is just alright among all the Japanese Omakases I’ve had. Won’t particularly recommend.
Amazing perfect sized pieces with a great atmosphere and amazing hospitality. I had an amazing night here with my fiance and would definitely revisit.
Takeda is an exceptional combination of perfect fish, expert preparation, and relaxed but precise service. It’s easily the best sushiya on the Upper West Side and one of the best in the city. I’m not an omakase veteran so if you aren’t either there’s a few things you should know: - This isn’t a normal western restaurant where you go to laugh and chat with your dining companion over a meal; this is a temple to sushi and you’re here to watch a master at work. If I had to describe the energy I would say it’s pleasantly reverent. Everyone at the counter was very respectful but also quite hushed. - There’s one 20 course menu and you have to trust Takeda-san will choose the freshest seasonal fish. You will pay around $300 per person (menu, drinks, and tax + tip) for the privilege of enjoying what Takeda-san has selected for you and it’s going to be a work of art that is unique to that evening. The price is both completely extravagant and an incredible deal when you consider the sourcing of the fish, the virtuosity of the chef, and the level of service. - The service is relaxed but also precise. The staff to diner ratio is higher than 1:1 and everything was timed for a perfectly paced meal. We arrived at 6:33 and realized we were paying our bill at 8:03.
I have never had such an incredible experience in a restaurant. It was amazing to watch Chef Takeda work. He obviously takes great pride in preparing each dish in a masterful way. The staff were professional and polite; I felt like an honored guest. If you love sushi, this restaurant is a must in NYC.
I’m so glad I got to experience such high-quality Japanese sushi at TAKEDA in New York. Having the omakase dinner here was truly a special and memorable experience — I feel lucky to have had the chance. In my opinion, TAKEDA is the best Japanese restaurant in NYC. Not only was the food outstanding, but the atmosphere and attention to detail made me feel deeply connected to Japanese culture. If I ever come back to New York, this will definitely be one of the first places I return to. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic and unforgettable sushi experience.
I came to TAKEDA after a friend mentioned they were serving ayu, the delicate and seasonal sweetfish of early summer. I'm so glad I listened—it was truly an exceptional dining experience. Ayu was beautifully prepared both as sashimi and in a light, crispy fried preparation. Each showcased the subtle flavor of this rare fish perfectly. Other highlights included a clear soup with a crab meatball, which was refined, warming, and deeply flavorful. The seared bonito was outstanding—lightly smoked with just the right char, full of umami. The sushi courses were all elegant and balanced, with every piece showing thoughtful attention to harmony and texture. TAKEDA offers a quiet, focused experience where seasonal ingredients shine and every dish feels intentional. I’ll definitely be back.
Delicious meal, with the freshest of ingredients and attention to detail. From start to end the dishes were creative - not just in flavors, but also in their delivery and presentation (also appreciated the huge range in dishes). There is also an extensive sake menu! The service was attentive, friendly, and the restaurant has an intimate setting with nice ambiance.
Takeda has completely changed sushi for me. Each piece of fish was so meticulously prepared the fish and rice enter and leave your mouth at the same time. Obviously the sushi is amazing, but you definitely do not want to brush over the cooked dishes either. I especially loved the seared lobster. The sauce is so amazing and the ginger is perfect to cleanse your palate. The 19 course meal is the perfect amount of food. I left feeling completely satiated but if my stomach permitted, I would have ordered everything again haha Highly recommend Takeda to spend a special night with your loved ones! Definitely coming again.
Lovely dine in experience. It was us and another couple, very relaxing and intimate atmosphere. First time we had omakase and worth it. The owners of the restaurant were very welcoming and kind, and it was very nice to learn about them and their story. My favorite part is when the chef was checking the scallop(?) and it moved!
Arguably the best omakase experience in NYC, this restaurant showcases the masterful artistry of Chef Takeda, a kaiseki-trained chef from Osaka. His expertise in Osaka and Kyoto-style techniques is evident in every dish, setting him apart from even the most renowned sushi chefs in the city. Every piece of fish is meticulously cured—some marinated in fermented rice or kelp, others smoked with wood chips or straw, and some dry-aged for weeks—each method enhancing the depth of flavor. The precision and craftsmanship behind these details result in an unforgettable dining experience.
Excellent omakase for a special occasion. Lots of variety in the courses, so it wasn’t exclusively sushi. The chef and staff provided above and beyond service. It was an intimate dining experience and an overall very pleasant evening!
Omakase for $280 includes 18 courses. Originally from Osaka, Chef Takeda-san has created a traditional menu of very high quality nigiri and a rotating mix of native dishes like sobazushi, buri shabu shabu, Okinawa salmon, etc. The interiors and service really resemble a Tokyo sushiya, making this a personal favorite in NYC
Nice omakase experience! The attention to detail and flavors / textures was very well.
This place was simply fantastic. Fresh, well prepared sushi and every Omakase piece was so flavorful. Chef Takeda prepared our food in front of us and he was very humble and kind. Everyone here was gentle, knowledgeable, and friendly. I also loved the vibe and energy of the space. This space is intimate, cozy, and modern. It is now one my new favorite restaurants, and the best sushi I have ever eaten. Overall I enjoyed a phenomenal meal and will definitely comeback!
The experience was heavenly. This is far and away the most subtle, delicate dance of flavors you can get at omakase. The rice was a particular standout amongst every piece. Completely blown away, we'll be back!
Amazing experience from start to finish. The sushi was the best I’ve ever had. The chef is a master at his craft. Artful and delicious and the service was incredible.

Minimal interior and intimate space with no ventilation. Great food and service but it wasn’t worth $280 per person in comparison to omakase we’ve had in Japan, Hawaii, etc. The last course (dessert) was disappointing - blueberry mochi and green tea felt out of place especially given the price point.
Very solid omakase for great value. The fish were very well prepared. However, the only improvement is (in my opinion) that the shari could be more flavored. The fish definitely outshines the rice at this place.

This place must be avoided. I don't write reviews often but I feel this is a must. This is my second time back at Takeda, first being in 2022. Now the place has not only gone downhill it really is sad from the dirty entrance to the bathrooms to stained uniforms on the chef and the waitress. The food is not bad but here is the problem: I suspect they switch wines. I frequently bring wines for corkage. This time around I also brought a well chilled (3 hrs in the fridge) wine. When I was delayed receiving the wine, I asked and got "it is warm." I was perplexed and demanded I get a glass and was served lukewarm wine that is clearly not the pedigree of the wine I'd brought for a 100 bucks corkage. Now there is no way for me or anyone to demand to see the kitchen in search of my chilled wine. Then I began to wonder is anything they serve what they claim it is? Hokkaido uni to kinki from Hokkaido? What about any wine ordered? I've frequented many omakase places and this is the first time in my twenty years dining in NY that I witnessed a blatant wine change. Lesson learned. But I felt obligated for others to be warned about this place. Do not order drinks unless you are fine with not knowing what you are drinking.
