Husband and I had a wonderful lunch experience here while on vacation. They have great lunch deals with a cozy atmosphere. The best part of our visit was being taken care of by Goshi. Conversing with him and hearing his stories was such a fun and pleasant experience for us! Definitely worth visiting.
I’m impressed by the food. We ordered lamb biryani. Lamb was so tender, the rice was flavorful.
Overall, a 10/10 experience! Truly a gem to find after a long day at the museum and brisk walk through Central Park. The food here was amazing! The vegetable samosas, chicken saag, and the chicken tikka masala with the garlic naan was the perfect combination. I really enjoyed the samosa sauces and the spices in each of the chicken dish… the garlic naan was also some of the best I’ve had. The owner was so welcoming and kind, which made the experience even better. Definitely coming back!
Such a wonderful neighborhood gem. The food is delicious, but the highlight for me is certainly the hospitality. The atmosphere is welcoming, with design that feels cozy but not overbearing. It is clear that the main waiter takes pride in welcoming you to his space. From suggestions on what to eat, to replacing silverware and filling water, he evokes the care that is hard to find in today’s fast paced restaurant scene. Can’t wait to go back.
Amazing food, staff & service! I’ve been coming here for years & they are my favorite Indian food in the area. Recently someone mistakenly took my takeout order & the kind owner re-made it on the spot. They provided me tea while I waited and gave some extra rice pudding. Wonderfully generous. Highly recommend stopping in, their space is incredibly warm & inviting!
Misma (owner) was extremely friendly and hospitable. Took great care of me on Tuesday, and I will definitely be coming back. Garlic naan is out of this world!
Excellent food and warm hospitality. Everything is cooked with love for great affordable prices and great portion sizes. Highly recommend
We love takeout from this restaurant! Like home cooking Indian food (they offer mild which is great for us). The owner is so nice. This is a real neighborhood gem!
I live nearby and mostly pick up takeout. Everything I’ve tried has been great. The curries, the biryani, the samosas, the naan and paratha—nothing misses!
Excellent food, very flavorful, not too spicy. Fresh ingredients! Very kind staff. Vegan options.
Loved this place. I have been on the hunt to find my go to Indian spot and this has taken the place… for now at least haha. The service was exceptional, I was greeted nicely and offered a seat to wait for my pick up order. The dishes provided were rich and full of flavor while keeping with traditions. The sauces were flavorful and complex enhancing each bite.
The area needed a spot like this, and now we have it. The people at Indian Tanpura are remarkably kind and provide help with any matter. Delicious offerings. Nice environment. The amount of food per dollar is impressive. All components of the meal impressed.
I live 1 block away & get to enjoy Indian Tanpura's food whenever I want! Pictured are the vegetable samosas (2 per order), Saag Paneer, garlic naan & aloo paratha, and Chicken Kashmir. Every time we order we get the samosa: absolutely excellent with the sauces & garlic. Saag Paneer is a standout too, that's part of most of our orders. We've tried almost all of the curried dishes, and others like Rogan Josh, lamb moglai and have enjoyed them all. Proceed with caution on the vindaloo, one of the spiciest I've had! The staff is warm & welcoming, vibe inside is calm & classic. Highly recommend!
Amazing food is incredible, it is delicious and creative, amazing service, the owner is very kind, the atmosphere is really good as well and the prices are very affordable. I discovered this place when going to work and now I am a regular costumer, definetly more people should take the chance to eat here. The restaurant is been open since 1996 and I just think is a really good option beacause is and Indian place run by Indian people that really know their culinary culture. Don't miss it :)
This fantastic restaurant was recommended to us by a local in a nearby coffee shop. We were the only ones in the restaurant but we had a great time. The papadam that was served before the meal came with three chutneys, the onion was my favorite. For entrees we got the chicken tikka masala and the lamb korai which is a specialty of theirs. Both dishes were extremely flavorful and left us wanting more. The garlic naan that we ordered was the best we have ever had, baked perfectly and seasoned well. Overall we had one of our best meals in New York here and would recommend it to anyone looking for great Indian in the area.
August 2022. We came for lunch on a Saturday around 1:30 pm and were the only patrons. The restaurant is not huge but I liked the music and ambience. I had the lamb korai which was great and seasoned with the perfect amount of spiciness. The naan and chaputi were also very nice. The prices were surprisingly reasonable for a restaurant in NYC!!
Our waiter was fantastic. His name is Khan. Don't forget it. I have 4 stars cause 5 means you're out of this world. The tandoori chicken was a little drier than it should've been. Everything else was delicious! Go here. Eat and enjoy.
It is a hole in the wall type of the restaurant. I like it. The waiter was very attentive and polite. Food was pretty authentic. Whenever I go to the Indian restaurant, I taste a lot of sugar but this restaurant is very good with spice. I would like to come back to try other dishes. I wish they had a gobi appetizer in the future.
