Opinions de The Broken Shaker New York
Great rooftop spot. Nice and low-key compared to some of the other big rooftop places. The drinks are wonderful. I love the cocoa puff old fashioned however the bartenders make pretty good drinks so anything and everything is delicious. Great vibes.
Such a fun place! The atmosphere is so cool, the music is great, staff are super nice and happy, the drinks are wonderful... I have nothing bad to say about Broken Shaker. If you're in the area and want really fun cocktails, I highly recommend coming here.
Great music, ambience and service. We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere
Marz was the best!!! Made the experience amazing and so fun. We had the best time ever. This place has the best vibes, the best drinks, and the best staff. If you wanna have a fun time with friends go here! Wont disappointment.
Food never came after last time we were there, but been here bunch of times for drinks, always great! Their bartenders are amazing! Rotating DJs that are always solid. Great time, day or night
I’ve been going here for 4 year and it has always been a good vibe but it’s gotten better. The workers are so cool and the atmosphere is a vibe and the host Marx & Aida are such good energy! It’s hard to find this type of energy in New York
Great space that feels like a beautiful garden away from the city even though it's right in the heart of Manhattan. Drinks are fun. Lots of outdoor space. Easy to find nooks with friends. Best part - views and feeling of getting out of the city!
Get experience at Broken Shaker- the staff was incredible! Oma, Kyle and Gerald were so accommodating and helpful! It’s so nice to see a place with a great team of staff. I would highly recommend! Drinks were great! And they have a great happy hour until 6!
So fun, great cocktails, and if I remember correctly they had a cute lil happy hour. An easy yes for anytime want to grab drinks.
From the amazing views, to the great staff. Can’t think of a better night out in the city. The music based on the DJ also adds more to the night.
Food and drinks were delicious. Interesting cocktail options, including a daily punch. Good assortment of shareable apps. We loved the tuna with sticky rice and a platter of 3 spreads w pita and crudite. Mmm. Its best to make a reservation for outdoor seating.
I had a terrible week at work and just wanted to find a rooftop. I actually stumbled upon THE rooftop. Thank you *Marz, Ida, Oma* for turning my whole mood around! Excellent service enhances the incredible view and the food is the cherry on top. Drinks are well poured and flowing! I will be back. ❤️
I like to consider this one of the “hidden gem” bars in midtown. It’s located on a pretty quiet street near Baruch college, but the bar is a quick elevator ride up. There has always been ample space, good drinks, and a DJ in the main room. The staff and bartenders are all really nice as well. Good drinks, I’ve been here a number of times with my friends and will definitely be going back!
Nice low key rooftop with good views and vibes. Had our "Clueless" cocktails made by the stylish creator of the drink and they were delicious and made with love! Went again and it does get swamped at weekend nights, with potentially not enough bar staff to handle the crowds with the same love. If heading here again I'd go for the after work drinks (shot+beer+cocktail will get you going!) rather than braving the crowd.
I love this place! The vibe is excellent, and there are two great employees I'd like to give a shout-out to: Oma (server) and Mars (host/gadfly). The drinks are affordable, as is the food. Highly recommend!
Awesome rooftop bar. The view is quite nice. The outdoor space is smaller than a high-rise rooftop, but the interior dance floor makes up for it. Prices are.... Well they're rooftop premium. Overall, one of my new favorite rooftop haunts.
A hidden gem in the area. The bar is so cozy and i loved the decorations. There's only a few seats at the bar so we got a table instead which was shared with another couple across it who were really friendly. The drinks were really good. My boyfriend got some wine and i got their punch of the day, which had soju and raspberry. It was so good and tasted like juice. In the early afternoon it was more quiet and nice
Mickey the manager rocks! Our party of 7 was able to get a table without a wait. The menu is nicely varied without being overwhelming. Vegan, vegetarian, fish, and meat options. The drinks were fantastic and the atmosphere was lively but chill. Definitely recommend! Say hi to Mickey, he'll be wearing the orange pants!
Great rooftop - it’s large/spacious and beautifully designed - I love the beach shack-like theme they have. Drinks are okay, not exceptional. They have some food and it’s decent. Service is good too. I would definitely recommend for the vibe/decor and the great sunset views (obviously)
Popped in on a Sunday for a midday drink, got seated right away. Comfy atmosphere, chill music, nice lighting. The patio is very extensive! Cocktail menu is a little small, but they made an off-menu tiki/beach drink no sweat. Staff was knowledgeable and super friendly - I asked for the price on a whiskey pour and they ended up giving me a free taste! 🍹
Super cute spot with the most beautiful views of NYC! It was at the top floor of our hotel, so super convenient location. It was kinda annoying to have to leave the hotel & go around the corner on the street to enter, but they mentioned it was b/c it was under construction, so I'm sure that'll get better soon. Drinks were delicious & so much variety on types of seating!
Such a relaxing atmosphere with great music and people. The views outside are stunning and the inside is very chill. The lounge offers a few drinks, which are on the expensive side but considering the location and the view it's justified. We found it by accident walking around in the area and loved the vibe. It is already in my favorites list.
Really liked the rooftop bar, had a natural feel to it with lots of greenery. Tables were spacious and spread out, the drinks were really solid but prices you’d expect in Flatiron. Bikini Bottom was my favorite! With the nice weather this is a great spot for hanging out and chatting, not necessarily a high energy vibe.
Drinks are relatively affordable. Their interiors and rooftop are both good places year round
Great vibes, amazing views Excellent cocktails. Good food Staff kind
We had the best time. The service was fantastic and Aida the host was so welcoming and ensured my friend's birthday was perfect. The East of Eden was delicious! The music could have been better though as it dragged a bit. This place would be awesome with a DJ! But will definitely be back again
I was exploring Murray Hill neighbourhood in New York and I walked into Freehand Hotel to look in the lobby and saw a sign that said Rooftop Patio, the front desk staff said the entrance is outside at the side of the building, it was a cool setup to go up in an old elevator. Once I got up to the rooftop the atmosphere was super cool, great views and the vibe was amazing! FOOD: Dips and spreads DRINK: Prosecco Delicious!
Of course, here's the revised review with all em dashes removed: --- I'm only reviewing based on my experience going there at 5pm on a Tuesday. I had read some reviews saying it gets too crowded, but that wasn’t the case during my visit. I walked in and got a seat at the bar immediately, and there was also plenty of seating available on the beautiful outdoor patio. The vibe was relaxed and not too loud, which made it a great happy hour spot. The happy hour deals (from 4 to 6pm daily) are excellent. Cocktails were really well-balanced, not too sweet, and fairly priced for NYC. Guac and chips and burger were both excellent!! Service was great too. Friendly, quick, and easygoing. Overall, it was a really pleasant experience. I’d definitely come back again, especially during that sweet spot before the after-work rush hits.
The staff was very kind and supportive. The common areas clean, and I really love the low light atmosphere. The single room where I slept was tiny but really clean, the bed super comfortable, the bathroom very small but cute. Instead the shower was quite big! I loved to stay there even though I was there for work.
Suuuuper cute, bartenders are so hawt and on it, very good at what they do <3 Dj was bumpin and vibes were perf, pretty decent views, the roof is decorated so nicely. It’s on top of freehand hotel, entrance is around the corner from freehand on 24th. Drinks are pricey about $20 a drink but they’re so tasty
Big fan of good well crafted cocktails and Broken Shaker definitely did not disappoint. They got great selection of specialty cocktails , outdoor seating and easy friendly vibe . By far Kiwi playhouse and Strawberry fields Marg is my favorite cocktails on the list - highly recommend to give it a try. Bartenders are cool and the whole atmosphere pretty relaxing, perfect way for a weekend night out, date or just stop by for a drink. For a good quality time prices are pretty reasonable, hidden NYC gem
What a cute little rooftop gem! The outdoor space isn’t huge, but definitely a nice space, there’s a side of the building with multiple two top tables, so it’s a great place to come on a date. Great happy hour menu, we got the watermelon margarita, a regular margarita and the bikini bottom. Service was fast and the staff was very nice, the outdoor space was great and it was quiet too, we were there about 430 pm so we were at a low time but it was perfect for us. Would love to go back and I highly recommend.
Lovely space indoor and out. Inside feels like a beach party in the 70s in all the best ways. Secret garden vibe outside makes it feel that you’ve wound up somewhere outside the city, except when you look you find a beautiful view of the Chrysler building. Cocktails are delicious and inventive. Arrive early if you have any hope of grabbing a table, and be prepared for the crowds.
This rooftop bar is very inviting aesthetically and hospitably. The decor is warm and tropical and the bartenders/servers personalities match. The drinks themselves are incredibly tasty. Alcoholic drinks can easily have terrible ratios, but these guys know what they’re doing and bring the punch of unique flavor with it. It’s a little pricey but definitely worth a few drinks. Also I feel like people neglect talking about restrooms at bars, but here everything is kept tidy!
They have a nice roof top place. The corridors are too narrow but long enough for many small groups to stand. They have private reservable places too. Overall a good cozy roof top bar. The chicken sandwich wasn't great but overall ambience and the feel was good.
A very nice spot with an amazing rooftop bar. Be sure to reserve a table as they are usually quite busy. I am only giving 4 stars as we had an encounter where we met friends there and they were adamant that we need to leave because we can't be a party of 10, even so we were just spread out across the area. That made 10 sense to me and I don't understand how you just throw out people like that. Apart from that only positive experiences
Awesome rooftop bar. The bartender, drinks, and snacks were great! My only complaint is that the host gave us a hard time about not having a reservation (7pm on a Fri night) to go to the bar. I was under the impression it was standing only for no reservations, however the bartender told us seating is available first-come-first serve outdoors. We got a small table no problem, so I am not really sure why the host gave us attitude. It was great after we passed through the not so welcoming hosts!
Nice bar with great views. Gets a bit busy and every table is "reserved". WARNING: Do not get the Pickle Rick, truly rancid mold in a glass. Asked if something had gone wrong in the ingredients and was told that's how it's supposed to taste. The bartender was nice and replaced our drinks with something better.
Friday night, 10pm, first sub-70 degree night of the year... so it was pretty crowded but I was helped almost right away. Bartender was super straight forward and on-point. And from what I could tell, the staff communicates across all positions really well too. Even their strongest, most booze forward cocktails tasted smooth and well balanced. However, I was a little disappointed that the menu doesn't declare that the Oscar da la Hoya is a pre-batched cocktail, but I get that things with lots of ingredients can bog down service especially during a friday night rush etc. The decor was modest and tastefully themed, lighting was warm and welcoming. But I gotta say the music playing in the indoor bar was deafeningly loud. Like full on live concert levels in a confined space. I have a feeling the nice weather wasn't the reason why nobody was ordering or seated at the bar inside.
We came for happy hour and it had been my first time since the pandemic. Drinks were strong but service was very slow as it started to get busier. There was literally one bartender for the entire outdoor space. They also have table service too but it was still very backed up at the bar. Vibe is good, outdoor space is kind of small and cramped.
Nice view good atmosphere, the lady who was taking our order was very friendly and attentive! The only thing is that there were some staffs keep coming to our table to be lifting our cups randomly to check if it’s empty..? It felt rude sometimes since they would suddenly come from our back to lift the cup up that I was clearly still drinking..
Solid rooftop bar in Kips Bay. There are beer and cocktail options as well as nonalcoholic options. When I went they were sold out of some n/a beers so I got an n/a cocktail. I don’t recommend the imitation gin cocktail I got because it drank watery and like tar but I look forward to returning for hopefully better alcoholic cocktails. The outside is nice and the inside has some seating.
Overall rating: 4.5 The only way to truly enjoy this place is to come in with low expectations between 4pm - 8pm or so. This is not your 1am type spot (which is mostly all of the 1-star reviews). I went with a large birthday party around 7 on a Friday night & similarly to the other reviews, the service is not great. That said, I just went to the bar and got a drink lol it wasn’t that complicated. These pictures are actually terrible. Because let me tell you- this place is a vibe & the music was great. I vaguely remember the food was good & it wasn’t that crowded (which is shocking). Getting a table does seem impossible, but even going with some friends at the bar is cool. I’d probably go again if I was in the area and was seeking a tiki vibe. It takes a specific level of energy to come here. Good energy. But I prefer more of a chill vibe. 🤙🏽🏄♀️
If you’re coming here for drinks I’d say it’s pretty worth it although I wish there was a better and larger selection of food. I came here with my girl friends and we had a nice time for the most part. Manager had some strange animosity towards us from the start. She threatened to have security escort us out for standing right by our table for a picture without a mask. (We were very much more than 6ft apart from any other people). I definitely respect the guidelines but it seems as she was VERYYY rude to us from the start.
Cute bar with rooftop seating! Happy hour available (I believe it ends at 6pm). Not a lot of food options and the ones available were pretty expensive. Drinks were delicious and staff were helpful.
Fun bar, great drinks, good bartenders, really rude hostess. Came tonight with a group of friends. We didn't have a reservation but were willing to stand or squeeze and were lucky to find an open space to fit our group. The group next to us had an extra chair and offered it to us. Some time later the hostess approached our group and asked if we had taken a chair from the neighboring table. We said yes and moved to return the chair but she continued to scold us, asking why we thought it was okay to move a chair and who gave us the chair. We had been laughing about our conversation when she approached and she asked what we thought was so funny about this. She said (as we were trying to hand her the chair) "don't touch my chairs. I'm trying to seat a reservation here, you can't just move my chairs." We were not trying to keep the chair to her and there were also several open chairs at other non-reserved tables nearby. It was a really weird response and a really uncomfortable interaction in what was otherwise a good time! We were having a great time and were planning to stay and order more drinks but this interaction kind of ruined our experience so we decided to head elsewhere for drinks. Would definitely have recommended Broken Shaker to friends but now I would hesitate to do so.
Was excited to check this place out so made a reservation for dinner and drinks. Got seated pretty quickly, only to have pretty much non existent service. Our food came out 20 minutes before we got our drinks, we were actually done eating before we got our drinks. I’m the middle of our drinks an employee came over and accused us of sitting at a reserved table that wasn’t for us, after we told her we had the reservation and we’re seated by the hostess at this table we didn’t even really get an apology. We asked her for the check since we hadn’t seen our waitress in a long time and then went and spent our money at other places. It was a shame because I normally love places with a tropical flair but the service and vibes were just not it.
Below average experience. Cocktails were meh for the price, staff was pretty rude about where we could sit exactly despite the place being empty on a Tuesday afternoon, and the layout is the most confusing layout of any bar I've ever seen. (A guy came up through the wrong elevator as we were leaving and they made him go all the way back down and around the building just to get back to that exact spot?) Overall, I'd say there are much better rooftop bar alternatives nearby.
I recently went to the Broken Shaker before an event we were hosting. It took me 3 days to recieve a response about even having space for my party. When I arrived we were at a very uncomfortable table sitting on metal chairs. I looked at so many pictures of the venue prior to even booking and did not see a spot like that featured. They were full and said they couldn't move us. Then, I ordered a mix of appetizers with the waitress however she did not time the order and the food just kept coming out with no place to put anything because we had a tiny table. I kept asking them to hold some food but they just kept brigining it all out.The manager did come over but did not do much to help. Overall it was a bad experience, the food average and I would just reccommend it for drinks with friends nothing corporate related.
While the ambiance can be relatively good (at times) and the decor is nice, this place is quite overpriced. Further, service is slow and security is incredibly rude. Also, who closes a bar on a Saturday at 12:30am? Odd. We were asked to leave on a rush and were even denied the option of using the bathroom before leaving. As you can see in the reviews, people have mixed feelings and widely varying experiences, but most negative ones center around wait times, prices, and security. So, with so many significantly better alternatives, why even bother? I'd just skip. Just around the corner there are better bars.
Friday night, had a 9:45pm reservation. Arrived at 9:15pm and got a drink at the bar. Margarita was strong but fantastic. When 9:45 hit we went to the host for our table and were seated. Waitress came pretty quickly, but we were still finishing our drinks from the bar. She came back and we ordered drinks. Waited 30 mins and remindd her of the drinks we ordered. Finally, after an hour received our drinks. (Party of 2 by the way) finished drinks, ordered another round. Second round NEVER came. Bouncer then told us the side we were sitting on was closing. We left without that second round. Bar missed out honestly drinks were good but i dont know what Was up with our waitress … left disappointed
Vibes are fine. Drinks are fine. Service abysmal. Server after taking our order never came back. Didn't ask if we wanted more drinks. We then wanted to close out our tab for like 25 mins. Server never came by or looked our direction. Had to get up to flag her down and then it still took several minutes for her to come back with our check. Missed a train because of it. Very frustrating.
This bar is truly so awful. They booted us out of our table because we “ordered food”? Extra sad because we were here for our friend’s birthday. The wait staff continually snapped at us for like 2 hours while we quietly hung out in the cold, making zero complaints, until they kicked us out of our seats for spending even more $ on food? I just don’t really understand the appeal. Like at some point a few of us gathered around an empty table on the patio, and then this person rushed up to us, slapped a “reserved” onto the table, and hissed, “Don’t put your drinks on the table, guys.” As if tables were for something else at a bar? I’ve lived in NYC for a while, own a business here, and just genuinely wouldn’t recommend anyone come here.
I was really disappointed when the elevator door opened to the roof. The first thing you see is some dated and dusty Christmas leftovers hanging around a window. You can see there is an outside area with tables. It’s basically an outdoor hallway against a wall with no decor whatsoever. Then there’s a main bar , also pretty dated and is just sad and uninteresting. This place used to be a rooftop tiki bar but is a sad rundown rooftop bar with half dead plants and worm out outdoor seating.. they really need look at some episodes of Gilligans Island and get this sad sunken ship a makeover!
Amazing atmosphere. Really a shame, drinks are $20/each. Bartender put 0 liquor in both drinks ordered. Margarita type cocktail with no tequila (it’s obvious there’s no alcohol) and a Negroni with no gin. Had a table the waiter took 30 mins to come by. Honestly terrible execution and service makes me sad. Great views.
We sat at the bar. Unfortunately when we arrived, it’s like the lady bartender didn’t care about us, and ignored us for the whole time, while catering to the other customers at the bar around us. Maybe because we didn’t look like party-goers and they did? I dunno. It would’ve been nice if she at least said something like “hey, I see you and I’ll be right with you”. There was another guy (who wasn’t a bartender) who gave us glasses of water, and said sorry that it will take a bit more time. We thank him because at least he cared. After some minutes, a new bartender arrives and comes and takes our order. He seemed like a nice guy. Too bad the experience has already been tainted. The 2 stars for Service are for these 2 guys only, 3 stars removed because of that lady and the whole experience. Good thing we were staying at the Freehand hotel and didn’t go too much out of our way just to come here.
Absolutely weird experience. I’m staying at the freehand - not sure who this bar is for? Are the creepy club style bouncers necessary 🤮 ? Super lame - do not recommend
It’s called the broken shaker for a reason. Horrible, absolutely horrible service. I know racism and sexism when I see it. Recently stopped by for a quick drink after dinner in the area and I have never been so embarrassed. We came in thru the back area, were told by the elevator attendant to “explore and have fun.” So my group of 4 found a table to sit at and grabbed chairs since there wasn’t a hostess present. However, 5-10 minutes later we were unceremoniously removed from that table and told to find a new table because it did not follow their chair protocol. After being told to find our own table and seats, I went inside to ask the waiter who kicked us out to find us a chair to which he took offense to and called me “mamas” while arguing with me about whether or not we follows the right protocol from the start. Mind you there wasn’t a host present to direct us to a table when we exited the elevator and the security told us to “discover on our own’ Unfortunately because my friend was unaware of the situation we had already paid for drinks at the bar so we sat at a high top. After sitting for a while we were having a conversation that had no relation to the waiter and then he sent the security to shush us and told us to “relax, because we were apparently offending him. Why was he eavesdropping on a private conversation to begin with?! Mind you, a table of 3 white men had just taken over the space we had been kicked out of and no one said anything to them. So many things transpired this evening that getting into details over Google is minute. I will never visit this establishment because the staff is so sexist, racist and horrible trained. Speaking to the manager was a fail because she explicitly said she was only on the job for 5 days. So either she will implement great change or she will quit because men in there have a problem dealing with pretty women who don’t let themselves be mistreated. The barstaff was kind enough, I hope you deal with them in a different establishment.
Don't waste your money. We probably should have quit right at the point when the staff yelled at us for "coming up the wrong elevator", we were staying at the hotel and were 2 floors below the roof. Rude waitress demanded a credit card on entering the bar where we then sat on rickety metal chairs. $19 martini, probably the worst I've ever had, tasted watered down and came with a couple of limp olives and a $2 extra charge for "bar tender's choice" ? Never asked me if I had a preference for the gin. This hotel is really nice and the other bars are great so definitely skip this one, go to Bar Calico or Comodo, both highly recommended.
We walked in here on an empty Tuesday evening with a large group. The staff was absolutely horrendous. The attitude was through the roof. They asked us to leave after 30 minutes, even though the entire place was empty now let’s not even talk about the drinks no mint in the Mojito the piña colada tasted like an expired can of condensed milk And still has the audacity to charge $20 per cocktail. You can pass.
Absolutely atrocious service. We booked a table in the patio, only to be first told that they have to “squeeze” us in somewhere. We got placed at a bar table, and the person seating us did not tell us that we would have to order ourselves…we spent over 20 minutes waiting for a server to come. When we got a server to come (guy with a ponytail), and very politely told him about our issue, and he doubled down and acted like we should have know to self order. As we were talking to him, he walked away and dismissed us by saying “cool”. Extremely rude behavior - not how a server should be acting. The cherry on top was that the bar by us didn’t have some of the drinks we wanted. Although the bartender was great. In general, do NOT come to this place. I was meant to celebrate tonight for a special event, and it completely ruined my mood. We have booked at another bar to hopefully have a better night :(
Few notes: - Made reservation and no table was available, they offered that we drink standing up. - The check came and they refused to split the bill, forcing one person to pay for 6z - When leaving commented on the experience, our server’s response was a threat, saying ‘I get off at 3’ Very unorganized, place hardly functioning, manager clueless, old system doesn’t take apple pay and took 15 minutes to swipe a card. Hostess was very nice and helpful, other than that, don’t.
Incorrect hours on google. Closed on Saturday at 5pm. Advised by Freehand hotel staff, elevators & google that this bar opens at 1600. At 16:15 Security on door said that the times are wrong and that they open at 1630. Update: returned at 1700 and security said that they will open at 1730 due to ‘issues’. When questioned, I was told that sometimes there are issues. Be prepared to knock on the door as the security guy is paid to sit in the dark on his and phone.
If i could rate this place 0 stars, I would. the staff was extremely rude to my party and kicked us out from our table that we made a reservation for. They even had security guard come up to us and told us we couldn’t sit at the table anymore, and to stand at the side of the patio instead. Judging from the customer demographic at this place, they wanted to keep it all white millennials and we did not fit that aesthetic. When we went to speak to the staff, they dismissed us and told us that the manager was going to come talk to us. The manager never came, and the table they kicked us out of was empty when we left. Do NOT come here, take your service somewhere else.
