Opinions de The Village Vanguard New York
Local Gem! Coffee is delicious, made and prepared with care & love, amazing prices, & the sweetest staff! Thank you for always taking care of Maya--your coffees, attention to detail, & friendliness is unparalleled! You & the @Matto team are simply the best!
Decent coffees (hot & cold) with alternative milk options (with no extra cost 😮), plus yummy pastries & baked goodies. The Feta Cheese Bourekas was so yummm 🤤, I highly recommend it! I enjoyed Cortado. Love that all items are $3 USD (or $2.50 USD with app) 😍, with fast & friendly service too 😊
Good coffee at an affordable price! We need more locations in nyc. It’s time to ditch overpriced coffee and move with Matto.
A gem tucked into a crowded stretch of storefronts, Matto offers an elegant, cosy respite as you shuffle downtown on Seventh Avenue.
I'm glad I found the best place in Chelsea. Incredibly delicious coffee. I always order a latte and this latte was delicious . I paid 3$ in the app for my coffee , just wow ! The customer service is the best . Very friendly barista recommend to try fresh baked pastries. I'm in love with chocolate chip cookies. I recommend it 100% and now it's my favorite place. Thank you 🤩😍
I Had a wonderful experience at this coffee shop! The food was delicious , especially fresh- baked pastries and amazing taste of espresso. The stuff was incredible friendly. Atmosphere and the smell of baking made me feel like at home . It’s definitely a place I’ll be returning .
This place is amazing! Such a great customer service. Ask for Maya she is a sweetheart, always smiling and positive. Me and my family will keep coming back because of her. We love every single thing in this store! Thank you so much!
I go there very often, and EVERY time I experience best service, best food and best coffee. Definitely recommend it to everyone! Prices are very affordable, and staff is very friendly. Especially, the girl (Maya), she’s amazing and always greets you with the warmest smile😊😍
Cute coffee shop in Chelsea, I recommend their seasonal pumpkin loaf it was super yummy and fresh!
I love coming to Mattos in this location because Maya customer service is outstanding! She is so sweet, polite and hardworking. Also she makes good coffee lattes!
Very clean, very delicious hot chocolate, great workers.
Matto Caffe it's a real jewel! First of its super cheap buying throughout the app, plus they sell ALMOND Croissants!! Which Starbucks discontinued plus the coffee is 100% Italian beans which the quality is superb! I totally recomend this place for the great music, quality of products and the Baristas are very knowledgeable about each product as well as over the top service! My new favorite place to grab my beloved almond Croissants with great Italian espresso ❤❤
Small cozy place great for listening to jazz. Be there 30 mins early if you want good seats in the front. A very NYC experience.
This one was a bucket list thing for me. Amazing concert, atmosphere, you feel like you are at the place where greatness in jazz is created. However, I want to say something about the service. As a non-american, a setting like this is one where this bullshit US tipping and payment culture is screwing up the vibes. During the concert, the waiters start bothering you with the bills and come back like three times. If you want to pay with your phone, they even ask you to get away from the concert to pay in the back!!! What the heck. So, please, just pay your staff a decent salary and leave out those dumb tips. Also, the 18$ cocktails were moderately good, at most. Still though, everything is forgotten when you're there, with the great music, when you feel the metro humming underneath you. Damn, what an experience. 5 stars, no doubt.
The Village Vanguard may be the center of the jazz universe. You can feel and sense it as you descend from the sidewalk into this amazing space. The acoustics are awesome. Only the best play there. I saw Christian McBride there twice in December. A place for legends and those destined to be legends. The musicians and the music are marvelous. And so are the staff. Wonderful cocktails and whiskeys.
So excited to come and experience this famous NYC jazz club. It is everything it advertises itself to be: classic music, classic atmosphere, iconic history, and a can’t miss jazz club if you are trying to find the best NYC has to offer. There are 4-5 others I would put up there with Village Vanguard, but then again, there are ZERO jazz clubs in the world that I know of that come close to NYC’s top 5. Kind of mind-blowing that there is such a concentration of the best jazz in the world. But that’s why I come.
Maybe the most famous jazz bar in the world. This is all about the music. The very best artist play here, typically for a six night stand. On Monday nights is the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. The band is made up of working musicians, many of them all stars themselves, who come together to play big band music on Monday nights. No food. Basic drinks at a fair nyc price. Service is polite and relatively speedy.
To me The Village Vanguard is the best jazz club of the world and the times I visited I was so excited because of the history, the acoustics and the atmosphere. It’s about jazz music only at the VV. No food is served and that is totally fine. Coltrane, Rollins, Bill Evans were here and recorded some of their best albums. A place to treasure and love and to come to over and over again. Must visit for everyone into jazz. Love this place!
We went to see the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. It was fabulous. The atmosphere, the historic photos on the walls, etc really live up to the iconic status of this place. Please support these small jazz clubs because there aren’t that many around anymore. Keep live music alive at these intimate settings.
This is the Jazz holy site. Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, and countless others have filled these hallowed grounds with legendary sounds. I can't come to New York without catching at least one set. If you're a local, consider yourself lucky. Come early, get a seat in the first few rows, study the decor, and lose yourself in the music. Oh, and please respect the house rule not to photograph or record during the show!
The best jazz venue in New York - the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra is exceptional and consists of the best musicians in the country, and likely in the world. I got chatting to the bass trombone player who also plays on Wicked, and all of the musicians play on Broadway or in world renowned ensembles. There are two sets, one at 8pm and one at 10pm. It’s very tightly packed and friendly staff with guide you to your seat. There is a minimum order of one drink, and this is efficiently ordered before the music starts and the bill subtly and silently towards the end of the set. An exceptional jazz experience.
Small local Chelsea coffee shop on 7th Avenue just below 23rd. Quick and easy service and I recommend getting one of the large chocolate chip cookies which were slightly soft with large chocolate chunks throughout. The coffee was good but too hot so was missing out on the lighter flavor notes you seem to develop with slightly cooler water. Outside on the sidewalk are a couple of benches and tables and it's a nice place to strike up a chat with other people from the neighborhood.
My first time at this location and I loved it, Eride was very professional and friendly, welcoming me, which makes all the difference, she was quick and patient with my questions. I’m only giving 4 stars because you can’t tip with the card, and I don’t think that’s fair to the employees, people rarely carry cash these days. Dear owners, you should work on that! Other than that I loved the Omelete Croissant, very fresh, and the Latte I ordered was also excelente quality. Great prices, I will definitely come back.
Love the price and coffee, however they need to work on their consistency. I order the same thing every day (cold brew with oat milk), some days it’s literally like I’m drinking a cup of oak milk with no coffee which is not good at all. People come for the coffee not the cut! Still love the place and can’t beat the price. I will continue coming but that might turn others away if they have the same experience.
We had tickets to the 10 PM Monday show and were able to get inside around 9:30-9:45. You are required to buy one drink per ticket. Overall, the show was enjoyable but very crammed inside. For true lovers of jazz, this is a great place to come. If you are looking for a less formal/sociable atmosphere, this may not be the place to come. The musicians were phenomenal and we are glad we came but I likely wouldn’t go back.
A true gem for jazz lovers. We had a surreal experience—without realizing it, we walked into a sold-out John Zorn show, and thanks to the staff’s kindness, we got two seats and had an unforgettable night. The band was incredible, the vibe authentic and intimate—no phones, no photos, just pure jazz. Drinks were just good and also pricey, but the atmosphere was electric, and the staff made us feel truly welcome. The only downside: $50 for a 45-minute set felt steep, especially when the artist skipped the encore and told fans to buy a ticket for another night instead. Still, that’s on the artist, not the club. Huge thanks to the staff for making us part of such a special night.
Cute new(ish) coffee shop along 7th. Interesting specialty coffee drinks. I had the seasonal pumpkin spice latte. The breakfast sandwich was on a croissant and warmed up, but cold in the center and pre made. It had a heavy pesto flavor (which was good) and avocado paste, with pieces of boiled eggs in the middle. They also had a decent selection of to-go pastries. Good value for price, but notably one tier less upscale than other coffee spots in the area. Quick service and I’d be back if I needed something fast.
The prices are nice for an accessible dose of caffeine! but somewhere in the cleanliness of the machines or during the extraction a burnt taste comes about, sort of like in coffee from a diner brewed into those huge cambros. The chocolate in the mocha is a cheap syrup that makes sense for the price, but could have been properly mixed into the drink. Instead it was largely attached to the cup at the bottom. I don’t expect anything to be expensive or taste amazing, but if this location treated the ingredient and the machinery better I would definitely have added another star.
As a big jazz fan I was so hyped to finally get a chance to make it to this wonderful and historic venue. The music was fantastic and this building was full of so much history, however, the making of drinks was quite loud and we were offered to have our jackets taken only to realize that this was not a complimentary service. I realize that it’s only $2 a coat (which is not a lot and maybe it’s on me for not knowing), but I think it should be made clearer that this is not in fact a complimentary service. Felt a little underhanded to me. Once again I was so happy to finally get a chance to be here but I wish the service was a bit better.
I was real excited to go to the Village Vanguard for the first time. We got there about 45 minutes before the 8:00 show and asked for seating on the side. We were told those seats were for 3 people so we sat at a crammed in table. Later a single female was allowed to sit on the side by herself. The band was Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas. The music was a real letdown. Joe seemed to be tired or lackadaisical and really didn't play with much energy. The piano player was the highlight for me. I could see how this venue would be exciting with a energetic band. I will go back if there is someone I want to see.
Was very excited to listen to high quality music at this historical venue but it didn't meet my expectations. It seemed like the house band takes advantage of their reputation and puts bare minimum effort. Didn't receive any energy from the band and found the performance absolutely unenthusiastic (except the double bass player who was great!). Perhaps trying something other than the house band performance could be better.
The service was terrible, and I was very disappointed. The staff was inattentive, and the coffee was not fresh at all. I will definitely not be coming back.
Another coffee shop "chain" trying to take over nyc. The reason the prices are so low is because the quality of the coffee/espresso is very poor. The service is very robotic at this location because they employ people that have no desire to be there working. My latte was very dark tasting. Like lava azza espresso. There is a small business coffee shop 2 doors down that is much better. Don't really know why this Matto's decided to open on the same block as the small business shop on the corner?? Very bad tactic and truly hope that nyc's time with this mega chain coffee shop will come to an end very soon. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES.
Service was good Pricrs not what thry used to be, few weeks ago it was every item $3 now i got charged $4 for same item. Not worth it. I can get better quality pastry and croissant for 4buvks, last time going there
Worst night in NYC due service, unfortunately. Go to Smalls for a good time! Manager: -10 points Passive aggressive approach before, then started yelling and throwing threats after payment. I mean, wow. Good luck. Waiter: 0 points Kept bothering us during the set disturbing the flow. Bills can be settled after the show and talking done between songs. Pro tip. Coat service: -5 points Wouldn’t say anything about the cost beforehand even when asked. After all this, I was told it’s ‘customary to tip and pay for unannounced coat service in New York.’ This club must have only American customers then. Are manners customary as well in the US, or did you leave them in Europe when you migrated here? Doorman: 5 stars Ain’t that hard to have good manners.
