Opinions de Topaz New York
Topaz Thai looks a little different these days — the menu and setup have changed, and I was honestly surprised at how empty it was on a Thursday night. That said, the food absolutely delivered. We ordered the crab fried rice and the royal duck over noodles, and both were very good. The crab fried rice was the standout — incredibly flavorful, well-executed, and with a generous amount of crab throughout. The duck was also satisfying and nicely prepared. Overall, a strong meal and one that makes me want to come back again. Definitely recommend — especially for the fried rice.
I stumbled across this place by accident but I’m really glad I did. The ambience and service were great and the food was delicious and really flavourful.Would definitely recommend.
A fabulous restaurant! My wife and I were in NYC for a long weekend, and we liked this place so much that we had lunch here twice. Their Tom Ka Gai soup was great after being out in the snowy January weather. The massaman curry was the best I have ever had, my wife wolfed down the fried duck, and their crab fried rice was fresh and delicious. Further, the staff were incredibly gracious, and the decor of the restaurant was attractive and cozy. A great place to eat and relax!
I don't usually go out to eat. Especially in Manhattan. I must say, in my opinion, the experience eating here was exceptionally phenomenal. I haven't felt a welcome presence like this in a very long time. From the Host at the entrance to the Server inside, everyone in there were respectful and nice on all fronts. Truly awesome people, and everything smells amazing in here. The food was definitely cooked with love. My compliments to the Chef. I strongly recommend the Massaman Curry. And definitely the Sticky Rice. Mmm Mmm. So Good. The perfect place for a date. The atmosphere is utterly soothing.
The food was perfectly seasoned, the drinks were beautifully made and the ambiance intimate and polished. New favorite place to eat in NYC. Ploy attended to us in a way that made us feel welcome and like we were the only ones in the room. Thank you Topaz. Very welcomed and unexpected experience in a world that often feels angry.
Great food!! Cozy and charming atmosphere. Really good service. Loved everything we ordered. All the food I peeped from other tables looks so good too. In fact I was torn between the red curry with shrimp and the chicken lettuce wraps because the folks next to us had that and it looked great! The tea was lovely while we waited for our food. We passed on cocktails, but the ones I saw looked very festive. Loved the cozy holiday vibe here. Super cool to go from the hustle and bustle of the city to this charming wood walls, cozy and warm. The holiday decor was the perfect touch. I’d return here without a doubt when I’m back in NYC.
Great Thai food - every dish we had was flavorful and balanced sweet, spicy, and savory. I don't think you can go wrong. But what I want to emphasize is how incredibly friendly and kind Sara was - line to get in, every table full, and they still took the time to check on us, get more white rice when one of the dishes was too spicy, and talk to us just to see how we were doing. Having lived in New York for more than a decade I wasn't expecting anything close to this near Christmas and in midtown and I'm sure I will be thinking about how welcoming to complete strangers they were many years from now. If you want a meal, go anywhere, but if you want to be reminded that there are still kind people in the world, go to Topaz Thai Authentic. I got the massaman curry, basil fried rice, and coconut pudding by the way - all excellent and would recommend.
Thai food is always on my must try list whenever I travel and I have to say this is some of the best and most authentic Thai cuisine I have had compared to other countries I have visited. Must try out the Dancing chicken aka Basil chicken and the green curry chicken and do be sure to request for extra spicy if you enjoy a good kick of heat!!!
We visited New York for a week and discovered this fantastic Thai place!!! I had the Pad See Ew and my boyfriend got the Massaman Curry. We both finished our plates! The service was fast & friendly and we got our dishes immediately. The atmosphere is lovely and all the employees are so so nice. I can’t recommend this place enough!!!!
This is my go to spot in Midtown. Usually it’s one of my first stops when I arrive in the city. I crave the authentic flavor and perfect amount of beef and noodles. The Drunken Noodles were cooked to perfection. One of the best I’ve had. The service from Lego, my server, was just as top notch as the food. Lego was attentive to my needs and he made good recommendations for my next visit. This is my secret gem and love the location. This is the place if you are looking for authentic Thai.
The food has been absolutely delicious, highly recommend the little mermaid. Plating is beautiful. Service has also been very kind, everyone is pretty attentive :) When I was waking up to the place i wasn’t expecting the ambiance to be how it is, so I enjoyed the surprise. It has a very cozy feel that makes it very intimate yet family friendly. Will definitely be back!
I LOVE TOPAZ! My friend and I come here frequently and we’re always super impressed. The servers are sooo nice and always making sure we’re good but most importantly the food is delicious. My personal favorites are the drunken noodles, Bangkok fried rice, steam dumplings and green Thai curry. Definitely would recommend 10/10!!
This cute hole in the wall Thai food restaurant was down the street from where we were staying. Comfort food and it was just a very short walking distance. Service was good. Food wasn’t bad at all. It was just missing the fresh Thai chili because I eat very spicy Lol. New York parking is expensive we didn’t drive cuz we either walked or uber.
Dropped into Topaz NYC after checking into the Thompson next door and—wow—this place is a gem. What we ordered Spring Rolls – Hot, super-crispy, and gone in about two minutes once that sweet-chili dip hit the table. Papaya Salad – Bright, crunchy, a little spicy, and totally refreshing between bites of the heavier stuff. Chicken Satay – Juicy skewers with that smoky grill taste; the peanut sauce was so good we started dunking the spring rolls in it, too. Swimming duck – My star of the night: tender duck swimming in a creamy peanut-curry sauce with pineapples zucchini toasted tomatoes and rice. Pure comfort. Beef Drunken Noodles – Wide noodles with basil, peppers, and just enough heat to make you reach for your water but keep digging in. Vibe & service Small, cozy room with warm wood and lantern lights…cute without trying too hard. Everyone on staff was genuinely friendly and somehow got everything to the table lightning-fast without it feeling rushed. TL;DR If you’re near the Thompson and craving Thai, Topaz is the move. Fresh flavors, quick service, nice people, and prices that won’t make you rethink dessert. I’m already plotting a return for more Swimming duck and maybe a second round of that papaya salad.
Everything we had at this Thai restaurant was amazing. The crispy rice chips they serve you with the peanut dipping sauce when you sit down was a delicious start. The chicken on a stick appetizer was phenomenal. The chicken was so tender and the sauce was so good. Our main courses were wonderful, and the sticky rice on the side... Wow. I didn't even know a pile of rice could be that good. The staff we're super friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is great.
Cozy Thai and local favorite as it's been around since 1992. Flavorful food that hit the spot in a blustery New York day.
I visited Topaz today and had a great overall experience. I ordered two dishes: the papaya salad and the Pad Thai with shrimp. The Pad Thai was absolutely delicious – rich in flavor, perfectly balanced, and cooked just right. It was definitely the highlight of the meal and something I’d come back for again. The papaya salad, while fresh and well-prepared, was a bit too sour for my taste. I’d give it a 3/5 – still decent, just a little more tangy than expected. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was pleasant. All in all, a solid Thai spot worth trying if you’re in the area. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!
The food was pretty good. I recommend the drunken noodles and chicken satay. The drunken noodles were so flavorful, and the chicken satay was very tender. But the papaya salad had very little papaya salad with a lot of lettuce on the bottom, and the spring rolls were tiny. Both were delicious but quite overpriced for the amount we got. The red curry was okay but it tasted a little bland, so I probably wouldn't get it again. The restaurant itself had beautiful, cute decorations, and it felt very cozy inside. It's quite small and packed, so it's best to make a reservation for parties larger than 2. Overall it's a little overpriced, but a good restaurant.
I ordered via uber eat . Got the Thai fried rice with beef , shrimp and pineapple add on, calamari, and chili chicken wings. The rice was good, but it wasn’t as expected , the shrimp was raw like they just put it in the rice. The calamari and chicken wasn’t good at all. Calamari was did not taste well seasoned and the chicken was not really good.
Decent Thai food. Terrible service. The waitress practically told us (not suggesting but told) that we didn’t order enough food. The tipping policy was outrageous. Another restaurant taking advantage of customer’s generosity during Covid. The tip % shown on POS handheld started at 22% Disgustingly greedy. We left the tip amount as double of the tax. The restaurant had the gall to set up the printed recipe showing not enough tip and suggesting more tip!!! So sick of some restaurants are still taking advantage of ppl after Covid. Took some pics. Decided not to include. Not doing advertisement for such a greedy restaurant.
