Opinions de Dong Ting Spring Newbury Park
This place is quite literally heaven on earth. That’s it. From the moment you walk in the women here treat you like family. It doesn’t end there though, the pork belly, the fried fish, the pork belly buns, and even the green beans ALL exceptional! I will continue to come here time and time again because there is truly nothing like don ting spring and I hope they never leave!
Absolutely delicious. Incredible service. Kind staff and surprisingly fast kitchen. Everything we ate was soul warming and portioned. I can’t wait to come back and am so happy this was close to where we live and we don’t have to go all the way to the SGV.
Since we are not familiar with Hunan, the waitress explained in detail those we have ordered. All dishes are very delicious. I can't stop eating even though i am already full--a first for me. The cold chicken with chili sauce was ordered to be less spicy. It is perfect to our taste. The chow mien is fresh and was told the noodle is home made. The broccoli chicken is also delicious and neither spicy nor salty. Lastly, the roasted duck is soft and juicy on top of halfy cooked cabbage. Its sauce is yummy, a perfect match to the duck. Definitely, we will return each time we are in Thousand Oaks. Good thing our hotel Hampton Inn by Hilton is a walking distance to this restaurant.
Authentic Chinese Food, great staff, and super friendly staff. The Hunan inspiration means almost everything has a spicy kick. Don’t let this scare you away because the staff is very helpful in adjusting the spice level to your preference. We had the Shumai, BBQ Buns, Braised Pork Thigh, Fried Green Beans and the Pepper Beef. This IS NOT typical fast food style Chinese food. This is an authentic, family style, Chinese cuisine made when you order and worth every penny.
Ordered for both dine in and takeout service was really fast for both. The food is so delicious made to order so it is always hot and full of flavor. This is a local favorite of mine since 2019 since my friend brought me here and he mentioned that the food reminded him of home. They are so kind and they give you plenty of time to decide and don’t badger you with needing anything.
Best and warmest Chinese food in town! Food is perfect! and Cindy just made our experience like being home! It was raining outside, our lunch inside was full of sunshine.
My family and I were visiting Thousand Oaks for the weekend and luckily stumbled upon Dong Ting Spring on my search for lunch places. I thoroughly enjoyed the simplicity of their food matched by the cleanliness of the restaurant! Dong Ting Spring is simply delicious!
Authentic Chinese food. Fast service and big portions. The fish fixed my cravings! Not too far from the highway. Good rest stop.
Dong Ting Spring in Thousands Oaks is very clean and provides a great service. The chef special Hunan dish named Fish & Shrimp is so delicious. Eating the tender fish, shredded mushroom and tender tofu along with the soup sauce together is enjoyable.

Well well well. Simply put, the best authentic style chinese restuarant in the entire Valley. I tried this place bringing 6 chinese family members, they all loved the food. If you like authentic chinese food and can handle chinese spicy (pretty spicy..) , I highly recommend this place to you! Recoomend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Stone lamb And Pork feet Not recommend 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 sour glassy noodle
OMG! Food is absolutely FRESH and so DELICIOUS! Found this gem after picking up daughter from UCLA and staying in Thousand Oaks for the night. Must try 😋
Very good Chinese food, had the lamb, something I forget. Not super greasy, no thickeners or sugar. Just good fresh food, keto friendly too, lots of meat and filling. They got pu-erh, first time I see this tea in America, very popular Chinese tea in Russia. Definitely recommend this place.
Absolutely delicious. Cindy was an amazing server. Helped choose what to order. Everything served hot. Very clean and pleasant decor. Great experience
The best Chinese food I've ever had. So flavorful and great spice levels for someone who enjoys heat in there food.
Always bring lots of friends with you so you can share. Best house special tofu near me. Unforgettable green beans. Etc
Best dumplings I've had outside of Taiwan. Lovely, gracious, kind staff. Easy self-select menu on an ipad (BEST ordering experience!!!). Clean, distinct flavors. Gorgeous food. Wonderful variety of options. Traditional favorites and unique home made dishes. Mix of round tables for large groups and small square tables for up to 4 people. Setting was comfortable, cheerful, just right. Already made plans to go back. You can make reservations, which I didn't know. Definitely do that if you're going with a group.
All those reviews saying this place is super authentic? Oh yeah it's super authentic. I can't believe we have a gem like this right here in Newbury Park. On this first visit we tried the roast duck (crispy skin, excellent duck sauce); pork belly with preserved egg (might be the best pork belly I've had); stir-fried potatoes (new to us, excellent); and cucumber appetizer (vinegar-spicy and very good). Can't wait to come back and eat ourselves into a coma. Next time, dumplings, I think. Y'all come.
You need to try their the most delicious authentic Chinese dishes. We had: braised pork belly, stirred fried Chinese lettuce, dumplings, Dan Dan noodles, Hunan style fried rice, Shu Mai, and pumpkin donuts for dessert. Portions are a bit small, but all tasty. Prices are fair and excellent service. Highly recommend!
Places like Dong Ting Spring are hard to come by these days, especially in Ventura County. When you walk in, it feels like you're in your grandma's house being served a comforting home cooked meal. Every time time we come here, we always see elderly Asian people with their families, which I think is a strong indicator of how authentic Dong Ting's food is. We typically order the stinky tofu with braised intestine, braised pork, beef rolls, always with a side of rice. I really love it here and I will keep speaking their high praise. Haters be gone, Hunan forever!
Ended up here after it was recommended to me by a friend of mine whom hails from Shanghai. If a Chinese person recommends a Chinese food restaurant, you go. I was not disappointed. Place was excellent. Full disclosure, I picked up a to-go order but the restaurant looked clean and orderly. The staff that helped me out was beyond friendly and made sure I had everything I ordered and needed. They have two "menus" to choose from. One is what they call "Traditional Hunan Gourmet" where they seem to have what you would consider traditional Chinese food from China. The other menu is what they call "New Style Chinese" and from the looks of it, it's the stuff you would find at a certain fast casual strip mall establishment. 😉 I had the stir fried pork with fresh bamboo shoots from the traditional menu, some chicken eggrolls, and a combo fried rice. WOW! Soooooo good. The flavor of this food took me back to the 1st time I had tried Chinese food as a little boy when there was only 1 Chinese food establishment in the city. This is legit Chinese food. Wish I had taken some pictures but didn't think of it until afterwards. Nowadays, it seems harder and harder to find just basic "home cooked" tasting this-is-exactly-how-mom-used-to-make type of restaurant food. I will certainly be back.

The food here is amazing. The food was easily some of the best Chinese food I've had in years. They were super nice and my food was out crazy fast. My only regret is that I'm only visiting for work and won't be able to have their food more often!
Clean place, large portions, and tasty food. Fried rice, dumplings, duck, and appetizers were all very good.

Over expectations, under performance. Service was less than inattentive. Had to ask to order, ask for takeaway boxes, never got water refill, or an interim "how's everything?". Nothing. The food ranged from poor to passable. The kung pao chicken was lots of onions, bell peppers, and dark meat filled with joint cartilage and tendons. The taste was mainly vinegar. The mapo tofu was ok seasoned with hua jiao, but not much else (no minced pork). The wild chili beef was the best (although my wife didn't care for the flavor). The server asked if I wanted it hot (which I do), but everything was fairly bland. Prices were on the high side, but the portions were large. That's great for leftovers, unless you don't want to eat it again.
The service was terrible. The waitress walked in with no expression—looked miserable—and didn’t greet us at all. After dropping off the food, she just sat there on her phone. No check-ins, no refills, nothing. The vegetables looked old and not fresh, and the meat was tough and overcooked. For the price, you’re honestly better off going to Panda Express. Worst of the worst Chinese restaurant we had in life . Good luck fellows
When the restaurant first opened up, we loved going there. Food has authentic flavor but the dishes are pricey for the portion and the quality of ingredients. We still were willing to pay because of the flavor and the friendly atmosphere (back then). About 2 years ago, we placed a large catering order (over $300). On the pickup day, we even paid cash to help eliminate the cc processing fee. For whatever reason, the owner was extremely rude. Brought out the food but barely acknowledged us. No greeting, no “thank you”, not even eye contact. The only thing she said was “I don’t think you will need utensils”. When we said we actually did, she grabbed a few and threw them on the counter. When we asked for napkins, she looked extremely annoyed and grabbed a couple from under the cashier. And most of them had food stain on them. After that she disappeared into the kitchen and wouldn’t come back out. We were so puzzled as to why being treated like this after we gave them the catering business. Ever since then, we have never gone back and will not recommend it to anyone. Weee! (online Asian food delivery) also delivers restaurant quality dishes right to your door with exceptional customer service. It makes no sense to us to spend top dollars to get treated like dirt.

Food is fantastic but the girl at the front Cindy was just horrible. Why have someone that doesn’t won’t to be there at the front. On her phone the whole time. Didn’t great, yelling at the kitchen staff. And then had the audacity to come and ask why we didn’t tip. I truly hope that’s not the owner or some nepo-kid just there.
