The pub is truly atmospheric . Service is so efficient and always with a smile. The ales are well varied and quite a few are locally produced and top quality. I really like the upstairs bar with its own outside terrace sitting under the iconic Tyne bridge. The food is also top quality. Highly recommended.
5 Stars just isn't enough for this place. The Sunday Roast is the best I have ever eaten. ( sorry Mum ) but it was just divine. Omg, the Sticky Toffee pudding is a must...... followed closely by the Mango and Raspberry Eaton Mess. Enjoy peeps it's a must if your in Newcastle. 😋
Food was great, 2 of us dined and both had Sunday dinners (I had the cauliflower steak). I was maybe a smaller portion than I would serve myself at home but still very nice and all served very hot. We got there at 12:15 and it was very quiet but was getting fuller as we left at about 13:30
First visit. It was excellent. Food looked really nice with good pricing. Visited again 17th October before seeing pretenders concert. Had the parmo in a stottie ( shared with the wife as I couldn't eat all of it myself) Really good, big portion and really cooked well. Teesside meets Geordie - parmo in a stottie 🤣
This is a great pub with a fantastic beer selection with good food as well. They brew some of their own beer on site as well as getting some of the best craft beer available on tap and in the fridge. Sometimes it's gets busy for eating so probably best to book to be sure. Efficient staff serve quickly though.
We went to The Bridge Tavern for lunch with our son. The two bartenders were very friendly and chatted to us. They were helpful in suggesting choices from the menu and yelling us about their experiences of Newcastle. Both of them were exceptional ambassadors for the town and for the pub. The food was lovely.
Went here for a light lunch but was pleasantly surprised with the totties being so large I couldn't finish it.. hardly a complaint. Was super tasty food tho, we had the parmo totties (though the bechemal was a bit much on it). Great ales on tap and all at good reasonable prices. A must visit.
One of the best pubs in Newcastle, the team behind the bar & in the kitchen are fantastic and will look after you. Only if I lived in town it would be my regular. But when I'm back in Newcastle they will be my first stop when I need a drink.
Love this place. Lovely food, kind staff and great atmosphere. I always come back. It has two floors, and two terraces. Good for walk-ins and you can also reserve tables. Very recommended
We had a lovely table big enough for 6 adults, 2 children and a baby. The staff were friendly, and the food was great. They serve Guinness as well.
We arrived on a busy Sunday (19/05/24) and, even though they were fully booked, the friendly team said they could fit us in if we thought we could be done in an hour. Knowing how good the food is here, we said we could. 😊 They also accommodated my fussyness without hesitation (lots of places don't) and the food was divine. Best Sunday Roast (and service) in the North East. Couldn't fault a thing.
Another lovely Sunday lunch. Staff friendly and attentive. I had the vegetarian Sunday lunch, it was very nice. My partner had the beef and said it was delicious. One of the diners has a nut allergy, they were great dealing with her order. Dog friendly too. Can't wait to come back. My son says he will return with his friends to try the weekly menu.
Great food, excellent customer service and great beer
This is probably my favorite spot in Newcastle! You might not expect it from the outside or upon stepping into the joint, but the food is absolutely fantastic! My first visit I went in expecting just a standard pub, and to start, the beer selection is quite good - partnering with Wylam gives them an immediate leg up over others just slinging John Smith and other swill for cheap. We had snacks, fried kimchi balls and pig’s head croquettes, which were amazing... so that brought us back yesterday for a Good Friday afternoon lunch, and it was as expected - delicious. I can’t recommend the place enough, good beers, incredible food - doesn’t get much better than that!
Very cosy brown pub with a good atmosphere, kind and helpful staff. Quite a big portion of Fish & Chips with delicious cod, potatos, Tartar souce and a crispy green kale. Really good!!
Yum!!! The salted duck is amazing. Super meaty and flavorful, cooked perfectly, fat really nice, and cabbage absolutely delicious!!!! The mashed potatoes could be improved by the addition of garlic but so would all mashed potatoes and that is more a general opinion that I hold to be universal truth than a criticism. Bread and butter pudding definitely left something to be desired - while tasty, I'm not at all convinced that it wasn't just baked bread with custard and raisins on top. Pour some egg, milk, and cinnamon over the bread before you bake it please😂
Dog friendly. One of the best bars we’ve ever been to in the UK. Amazing choice of beers, in house brewery, outside areas right under the Tyne Bridge. Super warm outside even if it’s cold due to the space heaters. Incredible, very well done 👏🏻 Love this place. Part of the Wylam Brewery chain of bars.
First visit in a few years and delighted it's still a great pub. Good selection of cask & craft beer. Excellent pub grub and friendly staff.
Whenever I visit Newcastle I always pop in here. Nice place with a lot of character. Decent draughts.
Incredibly welcoming of our dog! Fantastic selection of draught produce and fresh tasty food. One of Newcastle’s best gastropubs
Amazing food, service & atmosphere. Highly recommended
Excellent food and great atmosphere. If you are in Newcastle and you are hungry don't miss this pub. You won't regret it.
Lovely decor, nice vibe and good beer. What more coupd you want.
Suberb selection of real ale and excellent staff had a really nice night in here. Great atmosphere.
A nice Sunday lunch. Plenty of meat and a good variety of vegetables. Service was friendly and fast.
Wednesday 24th September 2025 This is one of the top 3 real ale pubs in newcastle Newcastle there was 9 real ales on Yes it was not a cheap pub, but it was a magnificent propper localscale house Great staff and locals in here and this pub is a must for real ale drinkers to visit
I really enjoyed coming here. I was a bit dubious given the overall energy but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was really delicious and despite some of the pricing being a little high it was really good. We had a nice table with lots of space and the service was also really good. Thanks for being so attentive. The toilets are not really accessible as are up the stairs but they were clean and nice.
Nice mixed sunday roast (beef, Pork, chicken) With mash, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, veggies.. For 20£ - IPA 7£ Ordering at 17h30, it was sad they told us we could not get dessert anymore as the kitchen was closed when we asked for it at 18h20 while noone asked if we wanted some.. Friendly waiters.
First time in the Bridge tavern Really enjoyed it that I went back again a few nights later Friendly staff who knew their products Plenty of beers and choices for all tastes Relaxed ambience and comfortable seating along with benches and stools. It has an upstairs and outdoor balcony with heating Situated directly under the Tyne bridge. Outwardly doesn’t look much but really nice and welcoming inside Apparently a haunt of Johnny Depp and Sam Fender…… They mustn’t have heard I was in town 😂
Great selection of beers which are changed regularly there always seems to be something new to try. The menu is limited but the food is fine. Can be very relaxed atmosphere quiet times, although it can get rammed at peak times on Friday and Saturday nights.
Quirky, good service, however the drinks were quite pricey. 2 large white wines £23. It was quite empty when we were in but I can imagine the atmosphere would be good if busier.
Great bar to visit, lovely food, Sunday lunch one of the best in town, great range of beers, wines and spirits reasonably priced, great location near the quayside, lovely beer roof garden in the summer, well recommended
The place is in a good location and has a nice ambiance. Got their daily special of Beef ciabatta which wasn't tasty at all and meat was quite difficult to chew. They have great beers though.
Hadn't been for years. But it is a great place to visit. Hope to being going back a lot of times in the future. Just the same quality pub. Had Game Pie and my favourite pint Jakehead
The positives were the wonderfully attentive staff and how cosy the atmosphere is. We brought our dog and he was so well looked after. The roast was quite disappointing however - it was cold when it arrived. They'd also run out of veggie roast main and so offered cauli cheese as an alternative - would be nice to see some nut roast or similar on the menu. My veggie main also arrived with no gravy and it took about 15 mins to bring some (they brought meat gravy at first) so I'd finished my dinner when it arrived. On the whole the roast dinners just needed some extra love and TLC to make this place great.
Decent pub with a nice selection of beers on tap and spirits. Food was a bit disappointing. With the fish and chips, the chips were excellent, but the fish was over battered and overcooked. The burger was tasty, but the bun quickly got very soggy. We ordered a side of onion rings and they were almost all batter and just a little onion. We can commend the wines. Both were excellent.
My husband and I arrived without a reservation and were told there was no room. There were several empty spots but we were told they were reserved and to go upstairs. The grumpy bartender upstairs told us all seating was reserved and put us in the back corner of the place to eat. While we ate there were no less than 3 empty tables. We then asked if we could be seated at a table since they were absolutely empty. We were told they were reserved. A group of four came in, without a reservation and they were seated immediately at one of the empty tables. We finished eating and there were still 2 empty tables. We then moved to one of the 2 remaining tables to finish our beers.Without asking. We left when done and left 2 empty tables. We went downstairs and it was 50% empty. We were seated in the utmost uncomfortable place to eat, on purpose, for no other reason whatsoever than to be rude to us and make us unwelcome. Also, no manners at all whatsoever. I said "thank you" "greatly appreciate it" etc to the bar tender and he just gave me a dirty look. Same with the hostess downstairs. Other patrons were asked if they needed anything and how everything was but not us. The food was delicious, the only salvation. One of the best fish and chips I've had so far in the UK. Unfortunately, atrocious service and hostility towards us on purpose.
Not a bad selection of real ales (hence the 1 star) but food was diabolical. Menu attached. I had the battered fish finger stottie - fish fingers were thin to say the least, wife had the steak ciabatta - steak was just warm. And don't get me started on the triple cooked chips (why do chips have to be cooked 3 times?). I would call these cremated chips - see picture. Subsequent to this review management refunded the cost of our meal. Good on you for that and thanks. But my comments on the sub standard food don't change.
Clearly the bouncers have no sense of humour and quite frankly if you don't want our custom we can find somewhere better to have a better evening. If you have a sense of humour don't bother with this place. Many other places will take your custom and serve better beer. Avoid.
