Opinions de La Bastide North Salem
Grown especially fond of isolated, hyper-seasonal fine-dining spots in rural settings over the past year. Chef Calstier originally drew inspiration from southern France when he opened, and while North Salem isn’t exactly a postcard backdrop, the restaurant still felt intimate and romantic. Ingredient-wise, there wasn’t a whole lot of narrative to unpack. It’s winter, and at this price point it’s probably hard to justify a menu built largely around hearty comfort dishes (which is usually the reality of a cold-season tasting menu). Still, the overall composition was solid, and several elements throughout the courses worked particularly well. Bouillabaisse - The prawn head flavor was worked directly into the broth, which gave the stew a deep aroma without overwhelming the flavors. Black bass, ebi prawn, uni, and mussels were gently poached, and each ingredient retained its natural character. The mussel was borderline too seafood-y, but I personally enjoyed it even more that way. Venison - Cooked almost like a beef filet mignon. Farm-raised, so there was no gamey aroma and none of the dryness. Might be the best venison steak I’ve ever had. Cheese Cart - Not the usual, choose whatever you want from a boatload of cheese piled up on a cart, but a curated selection of six cheeses, three choices per person. My favorites were the makgeolli-washed aged cheese and Chef Calstier’s favorite 36-month aged comté. The former had a subtle fizz and creamy finish from the rice wine, which created a layered, savory profile that lingered so nicely. Could be one of my all-time favorite cheeses (Murray’s cheese) Andoa Noa Grand Cru Chocolate - Chef Calstier’s signature dessert. Didn’t know a goat cheese base would pair so well with hot chocolate foam, but it worked. The cheese at the bottom anchored the dessert and softened the bitterness of the chocolate, and kept everything balanced through the finish.
An excellent dining experience worthy of its Michelin star and hopefully more to come. Having planned a trip to come to the area for Blue Hill two Michelin star restaurant but was unable to get a reservation. So instead I found La Bastide and cen dou which was there more casual restaurant which was also great. The overall service and dining experience at La Bastide was top notch and on par with other two and three Michelin star restaurants we’ve been to. Will definitely be tracking back to dine here.
The outdoor patio was beautiful and it was nice to have tea and the beginning bites out there. The white asparagus course and strawberry dessert course were my favorites. Along with the cheese course. A wide variety of cheeses from which you can choose from or have the waiter pick for you. The first couple of dishes did take a noticeable amount of time to come out but enjoyable experience nonetheless
We had the distinct pleasure of dining at La Bastide last Friday. It certainly lived up to its having one Michelin star. The food was outstanding, the decor beautiful and the sommelier extremely helpful. It’s pricey but worth every penny!
A culinary oasis in the food desert. La Bastide is a wonderful restaurant that celebrates French cuisine. Perfect from the amuse-bouche to the dessert, with excellent and authentic service. Everyone who values quality and craftsmanship over the mediocrity of Greenwich Avenue will enjoy this amazing restaurant!
We've been loyal followers of Chef Andrea ever since his days at Papilles in NYC. When he and his wife, Elena, shared the news of their closing to embark on the journey of opening two new restaurants in North Salem, we were truly saddened. However, since the grand openings of La Bastide and Cenadou, we've been happily making the 1.5-hour drive to indulge in the exceptional cuisine at La Bastide. (Yes, it's worth the trip!) The dining experience whisks you away to the French countryside, infused with a contemporary flair. Each dish is a masterpiece, highlighting the freshest seasonal ingredients expertly paired with impeccably prepared proteins. And the wine cellar has bottles that would be the envy of any restaurant in the US or in France. It's just a matter of time before a restaurant critic discovers this hidden gem... whether it's the NY Times or the Michelin Guide, it's only a matter of time. Go now!
Best restaurant in the area, felt like I was back in the south of France 😍 Can’t wait to be back! Food was phenomenal as well as the service :). Thank you!!
La Bastide offers the perfect escape just outside New York City. As soon as you step through the door, you are transported to the south of France, experiencing an authentic French culinary journey. The warmth of this place is unparalleled. Andrea Clastier presents an incredible and surprising tasting menu, with each bite offering a unique and unforgettable experience. The expertly chosen wine pairings elevate the flavors of each dish to new heights.
Fantastique! Wow, what a culinary experience. La Bastide brings a new level of fine dining to Westchester County. We felt like we had stopped at a Michelin restaurant outside of Paris. The canapés gave a hint of what was to come, and the tasting menu surpassed all our expectations. The sea bass was the star of our show, but the homemade bread and the beautiful cheese plate (with imported French cheese alongside options from a local cheese monger) also deserve a shoutout. The plating of each dish was unique and beautiful (the photos don’t do it justice). The dining room, on the lower floor, was elegant and sophisticated, with the modern wine cellar, in center view, boasting an extensive collection. The service was personal without being intrusive. We enjoyed watching the chef, Andrea Calstier, and his team in the open kitchen. We are looking forward to going back. Bravo, Andrea, Elena, and team La Bastide!
Deservedly received a first Michelin star this year and honestly merits a second. We ate at 2 & 3 star Michelins in Paris this summer and La Bastide is on par. The finest food available in this area outside of NYC
The entirety of our experience was just impeccable. La Bastide is an absolute gem that transports you to the French country side while maintaining a simplistic modern design featuring elegance and sophistication. It’s a privilege to have a restaurant of this caliber in the area
It was a magical evening. The food, service, and attention to detail were unmatched. Thank you for giving us a wonderful family memory as we celebrated our daughter's birthday!
Exceptional food and service with a Provençal touch! Each dish prepared and presented with care. Wonderfully attentive service. Bucolic country setting!
An incredible experience overall. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Food was innovative with complex flavors. My fiancée and I had a great time.

Exceptional dinner for a special occasion. Intimate dining room. Fantastic service. Everyone so kind and went above and beyond to find out answers to questions etc. Food was phenomenal, with a lot of delayed timers of flavors. Something may start sweet with citrus, but end savory. So excited for the future of Westchester dining. Thank you to the team.
Tucked away in the tranquil hills of North Salem, La Bastide is a true culinary haven that marries rustic French charm with refined, modern dining. From the moment you step through its doors, the serene atmosphere sets the tone — elegant yet unpretentious, with soft lighting, warm wood tones, and a pastoral view that feels worlds away from the city’s pace. The food is nothing short of superb. Each dish feels both comforting and elevated — crafted with a clear respect for seasonal ingredients and classic technique. The flavors are bright, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Whether it’s a perfectly seared duck breast, a delicate seafood entrée, or a simple but heavenly dessert, every plate reflects thoughtful artistry and precision. Service is another standout here. The staff manages that rare balance of professionalism and genuine warmth, offering attentive yet unobtrusive care. Every recommendation feels personal, and every guest is treated like a regular. La Bastide is more than just a restaurant — it’s an experience of taste and tranquility. For anyone seeking an exceptional meal in a setting that soothes the soul, North Salem’s La Bastide is an absolute must-visit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Verdict: Tasty, serene, and superbly served — a true delight from start to finish. Le Bernadine and La bastide are my top two favorite restaurants! I travel often and eat well to recognize this caliber
I’m not a fine dining guy at all but been to a few fine dining experiences for date/celebration nights. I actually really liked this restaurant for the following reasons: - Concise and solid menu: their 6-8 courses with 3 main meat course is good enough compared to like 15 tiny courses with 15 different stories in other places - Excellent cocktails: thanks to the Bar shared another restaurant onsite; their signature cocktails are among the best I have had in NYC and they are all under $20; I had three, had I not needed to drive home I would have all the 6 listed there; - Private and comfortable setting: smaller place where I know they only host 14(?) people per night; servers are excellent and have a personal feeling to it when they chat with you Also, well it is a drive from the city to get there for sure; if you go early try to incorporate some scenery spots in the area in your plan on the trip there to make most out of it
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at La Bastide. The service was impeccable - balancing the perfect amount of knowledge, attentiveness, and approachability. The menu was well thought out and flowed beautifully. Each course was skillfully prepared with an abundance of flavor and imagination. I cannot express enough how much we enjoyed our evening. We will definitely be back!
La Bastide is a phenomenal restaurant, deserving of its Michelin star. The chef is creative and exceptionally talented! Each dish is memorable. The entire staff is professional, and very friendly. The welcome makes guests feel special. The atmosphere is lovely - attractive decor and unobtrusive music. We have dined there frequently and look forward to returning.
We very much enjoyed our incredible dinner at Le Bastide several weeks ago. All four of us agreed that it was one of our top dining experiences ever, perhaps even the best. The unique combination of flavors along with the exquisite presentation was beyond our expectations. We had a five course meal that ended up being eight or nine courses with all the extra treats. Service was top notch and the atmosphere lovely. Many thanks and Congratulations!

I recently had the best dining experience of my life at La Bastide. We started with a drink outside, enjoying the beautiful views. Then, we indulged in the amazing tasting menu. The sommelier made some incredible wine recommendations, and we were delighted from the first sip to the last. The service was impeccable, and it was truly a memorable evening. I highly recommend an evening at La Bastide.
La Bastide is one of the finest dining experiences I have had. This parallels Jean-Georges in NYC. Attention to detail in food, service, ambiance is clearly a top goal for this restaurant. Each dish that was presented, was artwork and incredibly delicious. Having the ability to see directly into the kitchen and how meticulous the team work was a very nice treat. This is now our favorite dining destination!
La Bastide was absolutely fantastic! From the service, to the atmosphere, to the food and drinks everything was incredible. They even have a little spot outside for you to sit and have a drink before and after dinner which gives you a nice view of the garden, where the chefs picked some of the food from. I loved this restaurant and will definitely be back with all my friends and family.
