Great place and everyone gets ice cream fun
The tuna melt sandwiches are out of this world! Love this place!
Delicious Ice Cream and friendly owner s.
Best food on Long Island with an amazing history!
Ice cream is delicious! Highly recommend!!
Enjoyed at good lunch in this adorable quaint sweet shop!
They have an amazing ice cream
The ice cream is amazingly delicious. Rich and creamy. It's also like walking back in time because of the way the shop looks.
I've been coming here since I was a little kid. I love this place their burgers are the best and their fries are crispy and amazing.
Like when my mother was a kid in the 40s 50s. I went to Dodenhofs in Brooklyn with mom and dad. This place is AMAZING. KEEP SUPPORTING THEM.
This place couldn't be cuter and the people here couldn't be nicer. Fantastic burgers and ice cream.
Awesome old school luncheonette with true homemade ice cream. We go there with the kids whenever we are in the village!!
Old time malt shop. Owner and his niece are truly customer devoted. Had a great time.
The Sweet Shop has delicious food, wonderful service and of course awesome sweet desserts.
This place is a living museum and a delightful place to eat and get ice cream. Please support local businesses like this!
The ice cream is so good and the owners personalities add to the charm
Fantastic burgers and sundaes!!! Coming back to try the malted milk shake
They have an amazing cherry vanilla milkshake here. Such a quaint and wonderful place.
Love this place, homemade ice cream, and the ice cream sodas are insanely great ❣❣❣
Bit pricey but the kids and I loved the ice cream.
A true nostalgic ice cream parlor with great homemade burgers
Such a nostalgic store, used to come here all the time in the late 2000's era; thanks for the memories.
I love being my kids here when we're in town. It's like stepping into the past.
Great little mom and pop shop. Service was amazing and food even more so.
Great place for a casual lunch. Sit at the counter and Pete will chat you up!
What a great experience meeting the owners of this wonderful historical establishment. Can wait to go back
Best tuna melt ever and homemade icecream and wonderful old fashion service
Amazing home made ice cream and chocolates! Definitely the gem of Northport.
The owner is a great person The ice cream is amazing
Best burger ever. Great ice cream.
Home made ice cream- Yum. Wonderful service.
Excellent home made ice cream with a historical shopfront.
Great old skool joint serving awesome home style cooking.
Our cousins who live in Long Island and are food connoisseur always take their guests (us) to this place for superb ice creams and sugar free chocolates and sweets. Very nice old establishment. Will try their burgers on next visit.
This place is like stepping back in time. I am thankful it’s still running because it’s the only place I’ve been to outside of NYC that makes a real egg cream and hand-pulled milk shake. Everything about this place feels like a movie set. The owners have had the place in their family for over 100 years and are always willing to talk to patrons about the history no matter how busy. They still offer homemade ice creams and candies. Everyone should come here at some point!
I've loved this place since I was a kid. My father and grandfather both came here. The best homemade ice cream chocolate and candy anywhere. Great luncheonette too.
Retro sweet shop, Home made candy and the best ice cream in Long Island!!!!! Northport classic for sweets.
This is a classic old fashioned mom and pop ice cream parlor and sweet shop with family friendly food in the back. Everything is homemade. The ice cream is creamy and full of flavor. It tastes the way ice cream should taste, and not like the pre-packaged fast food joints. The chocolate candy is awesome too. This is a great place, with fast, friendly service. It’s one of the few food joints in town that is not a bar and you can take the kids with no worries.
This is a family-owned fixture in Northport that has that vintage charm that can't be replicated. Excellent ice cream, candies and soda fountain drinks, as well as comforting favorite lunch options. Please keep coming to this local gem!
Best maple walnut ice cream I've ever tasted. And the atmosphere is so fun... step back to a simpler time.
This small quaint, old fashioned town is really a gem in Huntington. The town overlooks the LI Sound with a nice park for the kids and a sunset view to enjoy. Walking around, we stumbled upon the "Sweet Shop" that at first glance, looks like an old candy & Soda pop shop. We walk in and then realize that they also serve lunch --COOL, I was starving! Lol Service was simple, but I must say, their burgers are probably one of the BEST burgers I've ever had (Yup, better than those!) ♡ All Fresh and farm picked! Who can beat that! And the history lessons from the cute owner, you just cannot beat!
This is my favorite place to go for ice cream. It’s always homemade and delicious. The ambiance is calm and retro. The food is pretty good but I mostly go here for the ice cream.
BEST ICE CREAM in Northport bar none. Homemade and creamier than gelato ! Locally run by the Pantarikas family. They also, have the best hamburgers and fries. I have a burger and fries fixonce a week. A real soda shop with great comfort foods. Food is fresh and tasty. Delicious homemade ice creams in at least 20 flavors. Everyone should support this Village treasure.
Stopped in with my mom for icecream and it was delish! It was nice to sit at the counter instead of taking it to go for a change. Love the retro vibe!
Best place to pick up Easter candy bar none. Marlene was able to get me white chocolate Easter bunnies which no one else seemed to carry this year. Definitely went above and beyond.
I've been going to Northport Sweet Shop since childhood - same friendly owners, same hometown atmosphere and yummy food. I don't love locally anymore but visit this place every time I'm back home. It's nice to know that some things never change!
I ordered a chocolate cone with sprinkles. My husband ordered a chocolate and peach hot fudge sundae. It was all so delicious and the atmosphere and service are great.
This place is what makes Northport what it is. They're a small ma and pop sweets shop that serves delicious ice cream, in addition to breakfast and lunch. They're a great place to grab a quick bite while walking through Northport.
Historic ice cream parlor. There are fewer and fewer of these every year. You must stop in for lunch or dinner or just ice cream before it's too late! I've been going here for years and have yet to be disappointed.
This was my favorite place when I was little. Good burgers, shakes and fries. Homemade ice cream. In a fun, old school environment.
I saw that one that's across the street from Tim's Shipwreck Diner on the Food Network's TV show "The American Diner Revival" that was hosted by "The Extreme Home Makeover's" former host Ty Pennington with special guest star Nicole Roarke. Nice!!!
This place in its heyday must’ve been an amazing place to be. Still, I had rum raisin ice cream and it was real good. The shop has a lot of charm and has that 1940s/50s soda shop vibe. Closest thing you’ll get to time travel. Definitely worth a visit. They have their original menu in the window from way back when but it doesn’t highlight that it’s not their current menu so don’t fret, the hot open Turkey sandwich isn’t $40 😂 but it was 40 cents once upon a time!
This is a hidden gem in Long Island ! A lot of the old folks know this but not the younger people. Love their homemade ice creams and definitely a class apart from the rest. The recipe is a classic and has been preserved since ages. A must visit if you’re craving for icecream in the area.
Juicy, thick, perfectly cooked fresh burger, crisp fries, creamy milk shake, delicious smooth chocolate... OMG!! So happy that we stopped in! We were just visiting the town for a soccer game. Didn't know about the place. We felt the history and hospitality as soon as we walked in. I understand where all these good reviews come from!
Personally, I love this place. Came here as a kid all the time and stop in every so often. Still love this place. Burgers are juicy, fries crisp, ice cream smooth, and candy fresh. There is a reason the shop has been open for almost a century. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Northport, looking for a place to take the family, or to go on a date.
The ice cream was one of the best that we have ever had, and the owner was very kind and started small talk that interested you. Had a lot of options of ice cream and shakes. We 10/10 would recommend to everyone.
This ice cream shop had been in this family for 96 years! The man working behind the counter, hand dipping the ice cream, is a local institution. We spoke to people who have been coming here to get ice cream for the last 25 years... where you do find history like that anymore in this world? ✨️ The ice cream is homemade, as are the sauces. They also make chocolates, soft serve, and sundaes. The inside looks like a 1950s ice cream parlor. Plus, it's right up Main Street from Northport Bay. Prefect way to spend an evening on the north shore.
Really great experience here. Everyone was beyond friendly with bygone charm. The owner saw me outside with my dogs and offered water and ice cream as it was super hot out. Really appreciated the unsolicited generosity. Besides that, the peach and raspberry homemade ice cream were phenomenal and super creamy. I got a pound of chocolate too that I am pacing myself with but can’t wait. A+++ experience.
Amazing, a gift box of yours to us across the pond in West Sussex, UK. They travel well. Rich flavours, succulent textures, pure pleasure.
This place has a great old-timey, Rockwellian atmosphere. The menu offers up many classic hard-served ice cream options. We loved the scoops of ice cream and sundaes!
Iconic luncheonette, serving up juicy burgers and astonishing desserts !!
I can't get enough of their delicious home made chocolate. I treat myself regularly. The Giant Smores are my absolute favorite.

The Sweet Shop is a local institution! My family loves to gather here and we just had my daughter’s birthday party here! The whole family made it the most special day. Thank you Marlene, John, Danielle and the legendary Pete! Thank you!
This place is the best! They have been here for 90+ years so it's no secret they have great ice cream and chocolate. I go for the burger. Pete is a great guy and he cooks up a great burger.
An Old-Fashioned Gem with Ice Cream Dreams Are Made Of! The Northport Ice Cream Sweet Shop is pure magic. This charming, old-fashioned ice cream parlor has been a cherished part of our family tradition for years—first with my children, and now with my grandchildren. Every visit brings back sweet memories, and the ice cream? Absolutely beyond compare. Their homemade flavors are the freshest and most delicious I’ve ever tasted. I still dream about their peach ice cream—it’s a seasonal delight that captures the true flavor of summer in every creamy bite. You can taste the love and care that goes into every batch. A heartfelt thank you to the hardworking gentleman behind it all—your passion, craftsmanship, and consistency have created more than just a treat... you've built a legacy. Northport is lucky to have you!
Asked for and had a 50/50 of cherry vanilla & mint chocolate chip . Both are truly rich & creamy Great treat on a beautiful day (8.30.25) . A wonderful throwback store , reminded me of places I went to in the Bronx as a child . 👍👍👍👍👍
We had our son's second birthday party and it was absolutely amazing! Marlene was so great and so easy to work with! She was so flexible on everything and very accommodating. The food was so delicious as it always is. Staff was very attentive and helpful. We truly had an incredible experience and will remember my son's birthday here for a very long time!
Visited a fair few eating spots on my holiday from Northern Ireland and the burger and fries here were hard to beat. 👌 Well priced. The man cooking was very friendly and nearly forgot the milkshakes great too.
Best homemade ice cream in town and friendliest owner!! Fourth generation family owned also which is so precious.
Great ice cream!! Great burger will deff be back!
My daughter & I had lunch at LA PORTA and decided to pop in and get ice cream after. We haven’t been in years and nothing has changed…..which is perfect and the ice cream was delicious!

good ice cream but expensive. parking may be hard to find on weekends.
It was a pretty charming place, with some historic background to it.
Great homemade ice cream...... A little bit pricey for the portion size but yummy nonetheless.
Best ice-cream in Northport. Very friendly owner who takes pride in his establishment.
Nice atmosphere. Olde time soda shop. Serves very good snow creams.
This popular spot located on Northport's Main Street tries to maintain the vintage feel of an old ice cream parlor. Stop in to pick up an ice cream cone before taking a stroll along the waterside. While ice cream is not their only specialty (they have other sweet options) it is what seems to draw most of the customers.
A little pricey for what you get. Food was good, nothing spectacular. Loved the old school feel. Ice cream was homemade and yummy.
Peter and his wait staff, really show their love for customers through their high quality food and service. Burgers are made with fresh beef daily.
Such a cute store, the gentleman there was so lovely, you can see he takes pride in his shop.
The food and ice cream was delicious. The staff were very friendly. Stepping in here will bring you back to the 1950s, that being said the entire shop seemed to be run by an older couple definitely in there 70s plus , who could barely keep track of the orders and were completely overwhelmed by the amount of customers. We had to wait a long time to pay while everyone else who came in after us got there cones and paid quickly, had to ask twice for ketchup, had to wait a long time to pay and it just seemed like they were making prices at whim and typin them into the register but I'm not gna argue. Also there was a man working there in an extremely dirty shirt I understand it's an ice cream shop but have backups it was really not acceptable and kinda gross. But overall food delicious. Obviously a small owned family business so please support them and visit. Critiques are only because I hope they can grow as a business and stay afloat in these modern times.
The restaurant gives a real sense of nostalgia, a classic luncheonette menu, ice cream and a candy counter. The older gentlemen running it made you feel like your grandfather was cooking for you.
A great old-school throwback ice cream shop! Definitely not enough of these places around. Im glad I stopped by for classic Vanilla Milkshake Malted. Like the legend john T once said from Pulp.... idk if it worth 11$ but its pretty f%$#*^g good!!!

Vintage style ice cream shop with booths in the back. We recently went and had breakfast/lunch. The pancakes were some of the best I have had. The rest of the meal was ok. It's expensive-like everything on Main street.
Small town luncheonette feels like you are in the 1950s. Good for breakfast or lunch. Reasonable prices. Homemade ice cream is delicious! Also has candy counter.
Owner was very nice, we had a medium sized party of 20. Stopped in with our boat. One of the staff was all mad throwing chairs and cursing because we came in a large group. He was the reason this place wasn’t 5 stars
Maybe it was just us, but most of the chocolate candy didn't quite seem worth the money. Better than Hershey's, but the chocolate was a bit waxy. Could've purchased Toblerone & Lindor balls for a quarter of the price and been happier. On the other hand, the chocolate-toffee pretzels & layered candies were very good.

Ice cream was very "icy" not creamy. The place wasn't very clean either.
Yeah, the food was amazing but they would get mad at us whenever we asked for more water. Umm...I'm just thirsty... They also were mad at us for ordering our food altogether? I know..it doesn't even make sense.
Wanted to love it but didn’t. Couldn’t eat my ice cream. Threw it out. Sorry.
I went to this place last night. Thought the old-school indoor decor was pretty cool. I was very displeased when the workers paid no mind to us and continued their conversations with other patrons. When it was finally our turn to order, they looked annoyed to even be helping us. Ordered a milkshake and ended up getting something similar to strawberry milk. The ONLY thing that saves them is the kind younger man behind the counter. He happily made me a new milkshake. What a diamond in the ruff, the ruff being that terrible environment. He’s the reason for that one star. Will never ever be returning there.
This review is not about the food as I wasn't given a menu, but instead, I walked in and a man was sitting in the back at a table bluntly asked me if I knew what I wanted. Really? There was only one couple at the counter....no one else there. I said that I didn't know what I wanted, to which he replied,, so you want a menu? Really? He never looked up or got up to give me a menu. RUDE!! I walked out dissapointed.
I’ve been going there since I was a kid. The owner has the worst vibes he was so mean to my mom for no reason. The food is decent but overpriced. The owner literally screamed at me once for ordering to slow it was horrible. I was with a friend who doesn’t speak English very well and she was trying to order by herself and he looked like he wanted to kill her it was really uncomfortable.
The soft serve tasted like clumpy heavy cream and it was 18$ for two people! It was overpriced and not amazing.
Horrible experience. Waited 45 minutes for food, with no apology. Food was ok, nothing special. Waitress made a "mistake" adding up our check and overcharged us by $5.00. When I pointed it out to her, she repeatedly said "I dont know how that could be" and had to re-add it on a calculator 3 times before she adjusted it.
I walked in and there was no one in there, except for an older man that was working there, but also eat his lunch in the back. He was the waiter the cook, and he was not very nice. He was actually very rude. I would never go back there or recommend the place
I came in after a group was served and I waited for that group to be checked out. At that point, the counter person counted her tips and make change with her tips. I was the only one there other than a lady buying candy. I was ignored for more than 5 minutes by the 2 older men and her until I asked for a cone. The ice cream was not worth the wait. It had ice crystals and did not taste like homemade. Disappointed by the lack of service & the product.
old man in there was really rude…the kid working along side him was nervous because he was scared. Rude…yelled at me to “stand back” and there was metal in me and my sister ice cream. Terrible customer service i would never wanna be surrounded by such terrible energy when u go somewhere to have a good time and enjoy ur day with ur family?? Not possible after stopping in there
I don’t like going out of my way to write negative reviews, particularly about small businesses, but I felt I needed to in this instance. I walked into the Sweet Shop/Luncheonette on a cold, weekday afternoon with my wife last week. We had just gotten ice cream across the street at a different establishment, and we decided to look for a quick bite to accompany our ice cream, as we had been running around all morning doing some errands and were quite hungry. We are new to the area and were curious what Northport Village had to offer. We were holding our small cups of ice cream when entering. When we walked in, we were impressed at the old fashioned diner style of the place and were excited to sit down for some lunch. There was only one other family there besides us. An older gentleman greeted us, and lightheartedly told us we should try their ice cream next time as they serve Hershey’s ice cream. We agreed to this, and my wife and I looked at each other thinking perhaps this would be a good idea next time we’re in the village. We begin looking at the food menu on the wall behind the counter, and a lady approaches. She says to us “We don’t like people bringing in outside food, because we’re an ice cream place.” We told her we were unaware of this, but if this is in fact a rule of their establishment we were just looking for some food and perhaps we can get a burger to go. She looks at us and mutters under her breath passive aggressively as if to say “Yeah, I’ll do that favor for you even though you decided to bring in two small cups of ice cream from our competitor.” My wife and I suddenly developed a palpable, sour taste in our mouths and felt totally unwelcome at that point. We looked at each other in disappointment, and knew that we needed to walk out. I hope this business continues to prosper, as it seems like it’s been there a long time and is probably one of the few of its kind left in this overly corporate world. However, I just wanted to make this review as a reminder to business owners, you can have your policies. But there are ways to communicate to your customers without making them feel uninvited. We’ll continue to try ice cream and food at other local places.
