Opinions de Gangnam Jajang Oakland
Love this spot, we’ve been going for years. All the renovations they have done really cleaned the place up. Our favorite dishes jajangmyeon and the fried pork. Their noodles are so good!!! Big portions also. There’s no other place like it in the bay, would highly recommend. Staff is also very attentive and always so welcoming and nice.
Gangnam Jajang never fails to impress me with how great their food is. The signature dish is Jajang but personally I like the popcorn chicken the best. But it’s all good!
So I've been eating a lot of Korean food lately! Must be from watching all those Korean dramas and watching the actors and actresses eating during the show! Just kidding! I love jajamyeon 짜장면(black bean paste, diced pork, vegetables) and jjampong짬뽕 (spicy seafood noodle soup). Gangnam (Oakland) does this very well and is able to put both comforting dishes into one separately! And I never say no to fried chicken😋 Maybe afterwards, I'll catch up on my K-Drama?😜
We visited on a Wednesday evening around 7 PM, and the place was almost full. Despite being busy, the staff was very friendly, and the food was served quickly, considering the number of dine-in customers and online orders. The chicken was very crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the noodles were excellent. We ordered the half-and-half (jamjamyeon) and were surprised to find all the ingredients—crab, meat, and squid—in the soup, despite it being a half-portion, not just vegetables!
We were in the mood and decided to come here for Korean food, and it was really quite similar to what I had eaten before. The kimchi I believe is homemade, delicious and well-seasoned, not too sour, I really like it. The champong is quite spicy but the quality is very good, anyone who can eat spicy food should order it. The jajangmyeong noodles are probably the dish that impressed me the most because it was very delicious, not bitter, not too salty, really goes well with the fried meat. I was quite surprised with the fried chicken, the chicken was juicy, crispy and well-seasoned. The staff or the owner is really cute and hospitable, as well as the restaurant is warm and clean. I highly recommend this restaurant and will come back.
Jjampong had plenty of seafood and was very tasty! We were able to get tables right away, no reservation required. Also got Korean fried chicken (soy garlic), which was very tasty and would recommend. Would definitely come back!
“Best lunch ever,” as reported by our 7 yo and 5 yo. We dined outside because of weather. Adjacent to Telegraph Ave so definitely an urban atmosphere (parking lot part of Koryo Village shopping center) but quick and friendly service. The #1 black bean noodles were surprisingly a hit with our picky children. Popcorn chicken was super crispy, and we got chili sauce on side for adults. Complimentary fried dumpling for Father’s Day <3
As a Korean person, I love this place. The menu is small but everything is amazing! The half and half noodles are my favorite, best of both worlds! The Tang-Soo-Yuk and friend chicken is always made fresh, so it takes some time, but totally worth the wait. The honey and cheese fried chicken is so delicious that we order 2 and take 1 of them home. Reheats in the air fryer perfectly!!
This place is absolutely adorable and I love the decoration’s! Everything is super clean, and the customer service is great. The tangsuyook tastes just like what you’d get at a Korean restaurant. We ordered the ganjajjang and it was delightful. 100% recommended!
The BEST Korean fried chicken in the Bay Area! The skin is so crispy and the meat is juicy. We come here all the time. Noodles and other dishes are also delicious!! Highly recommend!
Jajjang and jamppong is so good here :) we got chicken delivered and they were good too!! Once in a while owner makes Korean trendy dessert, and they are very good - follow their instagram for more info
I love the small but simple menu. I've had the fried chicken, most of the noodle options, and the mapo tofu. They've all been really delicious. I also think they give the largest amount of spicy rice cakes for the price in all of this area.
My cousin and I went for dinner at 530 on a Wednesay and glad we did because we missed a big group that filled that filled the restaurant. Soy & Garlic chicken was great and the noodle dish was also delicious. I will return to try the other chicken flavor. We recommend this place. Small seating so good early.
Came here with my wife after a movie and ordered the jjambbong and tangsuyuk. Everything was delicious, and we were very satisfied with both the food and the kind staff. The restaurant also looks nicely renovated and has a great atmosphere. Highly recommended! 👍
My daughter found this Korean restaurant because she wanted to try black bean noodles. The parking lot is tiny. Probably big enough for ten cars. The restaurant is also tiny but clean. It was lunch time so we had to wait for a table to open up before we could be seated. The menu is small but they have delicious options. Service was professional and courteous. The food was cooked in no time and was very delicious. The portion was large and very fulfilling. The music was enjoyable too. We enjoyed our visit to this restaurant and will return.
food is always delicious! I usually get the jam-jjambong when I come because you get the best of both worlds. A nice spicy soup with the black bean noodle, yum!! The service is always wonderful as well, and everyone is very nice when I come.
The jajangmyeon jjambong combo was perfect! The honey and cheese fried chicken is always my favorite as well! Quick service, spacious and clean.
Everything is super delicious! Servers are always very kind and attentive. The price of soju and food is very reasonable too. Love this place!
The staff are very nice and accomodating, proactively offering us to move to a bigger table based on the amount of food ordered, etc. The food was very good, the JajangMyeon sauce was delicious and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The tangsooyuk was also good, with the breading being quite thin compared to the pork. 5/5
This is my second to have dinner in this place. The food is excellent and cheap compared to many other korean restaurants in bay area. And, the service is always good. Even though there is always one waitress working there, but she is nice and attentive. Do not go to Pyeong Chang Restaurant which is close to this one, their service is awful, they do not greet, and ignore me and my brother even though they saw us, and did not come to take order for us.
The black bean noodles here are delicious – rich sauce, chewy noodles, and good portion size. The staff is friendly and the food comes out quickly. Prices are reasonable for Oakland. Definitely a good spot when you crave Korean-Chinese food!
We were a large group so made a reservation in advance. Small place but the food and service was excellent.
One of the best jjajang spots around Berkeley! Portions are massive and prices are reasonable.
This is the first time we tried in this restaurant. Ja-Jang-Myeon taste very good. And the lady who serves us is nice. Will try again.
The honey butter fried chicken here is sooooo good. The jjamppong x jajangmyeon bowl is quite good too if you want to try both. The prices are very reasonable and the portion size is quite big
I absolutely love this place. Best Korean Chinese restaurant in the area.
My friend introduced me to this place and it was super yummy, the portion sizes are huge and quick! highly recommend

Casual place to get some delicious fried chicken. Menu is simple and no frills. Recommend doing the honey and cheese fried chicken 10/10!!
their jajangmyeon is the best in oakland!! HUGE portions - one bowl could feed 2 ppl for sure, the tang suyuk is also delicious, staff are very attentive and efficient, I do wish that they had more seating bc you can expect a decent wait on weekends

I love the food here! I always get the Tang Su Yuk because of the large serving. They sre very kind and I love the seafood soup and jajangmyeon here. It’s very authentic
This place is a very friendly and good vibe. My favorite food is jajjang noodle and jam bong. I can order one dish called jjam-jja Myeon. It is one for two different dishes and it fill my satisfaction. Also my son's favorite is shrimp fried rice and my daughter and my hubby's favorite is Tang soo yuk and fried chicken. This is the place can be enjoyed and satisfied by ma family.
Gangnam Jajang is honestly one of the best Korean food in Oakland if you like black bean noodles. We got the jjajiangmyeon and the jjampong which were both so good. Def recommend to anyone with the same palette!
Everything I ordered today was delicious. The portion of the black bean noodles was very large, so it was worth the price! It was my first time trying the fried bread with shrimp, and it was very crispy and tasty. The soy garlic fried chicken was very crispy too! I will definitely come again next time!

My cousin recommended this place as we were in the area. This small restaurant is located at Koryo Village in Oakland. They have indoor & few outdoor seatings. We ordered #14 Chili Kkan-pung-gi (small), #15 soy & garlic Kkan-pung-gi, #4 Jjam-Jja-Myeon, and #10 fried rice. The service was pretty fast (we got our food in about 15 minutes after ordering). - #10 fried rice: generous portion! The fried rice itself was delicious! The Jajang sauce really complemented the rice and not too overpowering. - #4 jjam-jja-myeon: I LOVE this idea of having half jjam-bong & half ja-jang-myeon. I usually like jajang myeon more than jjambong, but I actually love the jjambong taste more here. The soup is just delicious but it was quite spicy. There were plenty of seafood fillings (squid, mussels, etc) too. The jajang myeon sauce is the same as the sauce on the fried rice and it was delicious! My only complaint was the noodle on both dishes was too soft for me. I prefer a bit firmer texture but overall, this was a good dish! - #15 soy & garlic kkanpunggi: the portion was generous as it came with 7 big chicken pieces. It had crunchy coating and yet the meat was tender. When I got into the middle part of a really big piece, I noticed that the meat inside was bland. Luckily, they gave lots of sauce so I could slather my chicken. Delicious! - #14 chili kkanpunggi: again, the portion of big chicken pieces was generous. I expected the chili would give lots of heat but it was mild for me. The spicy sauce lacked of gochujang taste. Not my favorite but the meat was tender & the coating was crispy. Note: the kkanpunggi that I know is chinese-korean fried chicken with sweet & sour sauce. The kkanpungki that they have is more like korean fried chicken slathered with sauce. Overall, they have delicious food and I'll drop by if I want Korean food when I'm in the area.
Came here multiple times and it's a nice place for a solid and quick meal. It's a simple menu with their ja-jang myeon being their most popular item. There's about 7 or so tables inside. We dined inside where tables were available and clean but it was just a bit cold. They do a lot of togo orders which keeps the staff busy but they were still attentive. The food was tasty, good portioned, and priced about right. I would say that I couldn't really taste the pork in the ja jang myeon and overall things were just a tad bit salty.
I’ve been coming to this place years ago & every time they changed new ownership, I’ve tried also. This time so far one of my best black bean noodles I’ve tried here. The taste is perfectly balanced, and has more meat than previous owners. The spicy noodle soup is tastier & bolder flavour. I love the way they added the blue crab on top of the noodles. But it’s sad that the blue crabs are frozen so they are so soft & same as the crab meat. I’ll be paying extra if they have fresh blue crabs sometimes. Downside: just the customer service wasn’t friendly like before. It’s too cold on the cashier’s face. It’s hard to find parking here as well.
Some of our friends recommended this place .The jiam-bbong was too spicy for us but there were plenty of seafood inside. Impressed by the Jajangmyeong. Its flavorful, yummy and in huge portions. Its goes really well with Tang-soo-yuk.Definitely 10/10 combinations!
Decent Korean-Chinese noodle specialty, the 50/50 Jjam-Jja-Myun (짬짜면) gets all the notes right, albeit it on the sweeter side. The jja-jang (짜장) — black bean sauce is served with a hefty amount of ground pork, the jjam-pong (짬뽕) is topped with a good amount of seafood.
we ordered the 'soy garlic' fried chicken, which I guess we expected to taste like soy, but it was coated in a sticky sauce that was as sweet as a dessert. When we asked the waitress about it she just brought us a bowl of hot sauce. Either they got the order wrong, or their idea of what 'soy garlic' should taste like is way out of whack

The service was really nice but we were really disappointed. Ive been coming here for 10 years, and I think the ownership changed recently as well. However the jajangmyeon sauce was kind of bland and the noodles were soooo mushy and thin, in the jampong as well. It just kind of ruined the meal. Its really too bad, used to love this place.
Service fee was charged for my group of 5 DESPITE menu saying service fee is for groups “over 5 people”. Server did not disclose this 20% service fee AT ALL. Restaurant was also doing a raffle game for free food if you gave a review on Yelp. I gave an honest review and server asked me to change it to 5 stars. All this on top of the change in food after ownership is too much. Not coming back.
I’m writing to share some feedback regarding my visit last night. While we enjoyed the food, the service was disappointing. Our server was preoccupied with her phone throughout the meal and was unhelpful when we requested fresh ice for our drinks. Additionally, we were surprised by a $2.50 charge for to-go containers that was not disclosed on the menu. We would have appreciated a heads-up on the fee and a more attentive level of service.
I ordered in so I can’t say anything about the service or atmosphere. However the noodles I got are ice cold, the black bean sauce has soooooo much onion it’s crazy and they’re not even cooked. They are crunchy and raw. They also gave me seafood instead of pork and I don’t eat seafood. Deeply disappointed as I was craving black bean noodles.
