Opinions de Joodooboo Oakland
Came for a pop-up menu they had with Bazaar Sonoma, and all the food was great. Regarding the Joodooboo items, the tofu quality is superb, really loved their dessert, super silky tofu with a brown butter syrup and granola, perfect level of sweetness and playful textures. Variety of food and drinks are great and everything is on theme and authentic. Definetely will stop by again if Im in the area and if you want to buy tofu, this is the place to buy it for sure.
I wish I lived closer, I'd be here all the time. Beautiful, fresh ingredients - incredible, well-balanced flavor. You can tell that each dish is put together with great care. Seek this one out.
The chef was featured as Food and Wine top Korean chef. He didn’t disappoint. The menu was limited to fresh ingredients of the day. The tofu and banchan were all very tasty and cooked just right. The place was quaint and had the perfect ambience of a neighborhood cafe. Service was good and attentive. I would certainly go back if I’m in the area.
*Amazing food, DIY service at luxury prices* Joodooboo, oh Joodooboo. The food? Absolutely delicious — fresh, authentic, and with that “homemade but make it fancy” vibe. We cleaned every plate and loved the flavors. But then the reality check: $22 for a meatless dooboo set and $19 for a rice bowl that’s just rice and veggies. At that price point I expect a sit-down restaurant with real service, not a “line up at the cashier, fight for a seat, scan a QR code that doesn’t work, and beg the one stressed-out server to help” setup. Saturday was packed, things were sold out online but not in person, and honestly it just felt messy. And then after you finish your premium-priced meal (having already tipped at the register, because of course the screen asks you to), you’re expected to bus your own mountain of plates. Cute station, sure, but… come on. I didn’t sign up for dish duty after dropping $60 on two meatless dishes and a soda. Bottom line: Joodooboo serves fantastic food but the service model feels like the owner is pinching pennies while charging a premium (i get it that you need to run short in order to make money in that industry but yes it felt like too much) . I’ll be dreaming about the flavors, but not so much about the vibe.
A tiny spot known for its tofu and small dishes. They have a seasonal menu. We tried their noodle bowl and fried dooboo set, loved everything! My favorites were the fried tofu and pickles in the dooboo set! Got a small box of pickles to take back home :)
You have found the spot! Fresh tofu? Let’s go! I’ve been trying to find this place for months and today was my day. I stopped in for a late lunch and lived like a king! The tofu was delicate and absorbed the sauce, light sweet with a tangy kick that says, eat me. The sides are necessary and both clean the palate and round out the meal. Yes, I love a farmers market salad, even a mini! I’ve never had anything like the greens, mushrooms and tofu cold salad, I ate every bite! Besides the food, the vibe was right and I fully praised Oakland, diversity and kind people. I got 2 orders of tofu to make at home, with the magic sauce. Right?
Amazingly fresh and innovative Korean food. Fresh homemade tofu is the highlight, but everything was delicious.
I love the banchan and the noodles dish. I usually request eggs and tofu for a little extra protein. Their tofu is creamy and rich and their eggs are perfectly soft. The noodles are acidic, with chopped veggies and mushrooms, just the right blend. This is one of our favorite neighborhood spots when we want something healthy and fast. It’s counter service with a little bit of a wait at times. But the staff is very helpful and the wait it well worth it. Enjoy!
Had a fantastic first meal at Joodooboo today. I’ve been wanting to try this spot for some time, and so glad I was able to check it out. The arrowroot noodle dish was superb and a very inviting and refreshing mix of flavors, and the tofu in it was creamy and fresh. I think the star of the meal was the fried tofu plate though - all of it was good, but those first few bites of fried tofu with the dooboo sauce over perfectly cooked rice were divine. You could easily turn a non-tofu eater into a tofu eater with this dish alone. Thank you for a great meal and stellar service!
I wish no one knew about this special gem. But I can’t blame people for lining up everyday. It’s that good. I get the fried tofu set every time and it never ever disappoints me. Every single bite is perfect.
I cook fresh meals at home; organic, well-balanced, flavorful, pretty… It’s challenging to find places that meet all of these standards aaand fit my budget. I’m impressed with the quality of the rich golden-yolk egg. Bravo 👏🏽
The acorn noodles and dooboo box set are amazing. The tofu is so fresh, very high quality. The owner and staff are kind. We love them so much that we bought a beanie to rep them. If price weren't a factor, we'd probably have lunch here daily.
It gets quite busy during the lunch time, so plan your time accordingly. I got the dooboo set and was confused about the banchan served. I thought all the banchans in the display case are included, but only one of them is. The portion was too small for me. Food was fresh and flavorful.

a hole in the wall with the freshest tofu and farm to table ingredients in the middle of oakland! loved the menu, couldn’t get enough of the spritz! will definitely return - 100% value for money ❤️

Delicious vegetarian meal, with good ingredients and simple preparation, bursting with flavor. There were a few hidden gems (like the acorn noodles) that made it even more special. The location is modest - a few roadside tables outside, a few more inside. A nice high counter for laptopers. Service is friendly and fast.
Modern and creative vegetarian Korean while still sticking to authentic fundamentals. The highlight of their Fried Dooboo set is of course the homemade tofu, but every side dish was perfectly seasoned and well balanced. Limited seating.
Seriously delicious food! Who knew tofu could be so flavorful? Amazing depth and complexity of flavors in everything. Artful presentations, in a casual environment. Some other reviewers think the food is expensive for the quantity. To me, quality of the food is exceptionally high, and well worth the cost. This level of food quality and sophistication typically cost twice as much in a fancier environment. Check it out!
Had the fried dooboo set, which was amazingly flavorful and filling. The cauliflower soup was such a rich end to the meal! Highly recommend both the tofu and the banchan. Staff was very patient in explaining the choices to newcomers.
I love this place. There might only be three entree options on the menu, but all the ingredients are incredibly fresh and keeps to the autheticity of Korean food with a slight creative, modern twist (without resorting to heavy sauces and frying everything). The tofu is a must and the kiwi lemon drink I had that day was amazing. I just wish there was a place like this where I live in San Francisco!
Joodooboo is doing something quietly special. Start with the banchan: bright, seasonal, and impeccably balanced. Nothing feels like filler—each side is deliberate, cleanly seasoned, and deeply fresh, turning familiar Korean staples into something quietly refined. Then get the acorn noodles. They’re the move—cool, nutty, and perfectly springy, with a depth that feels both rustic and precise. Everything tastes alive and intentional. It’s creative without trying too hard, grounded in tradition but playful in execution.

Lovely place. This was our last stop from a week long roadtrip. One of our dearest friends came from SC to help Chef Steve open up Joodooboo and so we were very excited to make it. It was so lovely. The atmosphere is laid back and unpretentious. The joodooboo is unlike anything I’ve ever had as a measly southerner who has never had soft tofu. And the idea of hyper seasonal Banchan is a genius idea. I hope we get to come back or cross paths again. Thanks for the lovely experience Chef Steve and crew.
A spot in Oakland that I’ve been curious for a good amount of time and finally got the chance to go to! They serve very healthy/traditional Korean meals and some of their banchan. Taking one star off because it is a little pricey for the portion they give you ($24) I got the fried dooboo set which comes with fried tofu as a main and a couple sides of banchan (rly loved the spinach one on the top left) and soup. You can tell that everything is made fresh and with quality ingredients, leaving you guiltfree cause it’s such a healthy meal! My friend got the acorn noodle which was also rly yummy! It’s topped with some kind of vinegar dressing which makes it super refreshing but you can taste some sesame and seaweed flavors which I liked. Vibes are nice as well but not too much seating inside.
i knocked off a star because of the price. i got the fried dooboo set for $22 + tax. i was legit still so hungry after. everything tasted good but i think the value wasn’t there. really friendly staff!

The food is pretty good and tastes healthy but the portions are small. I spent $24 on a soup and noodle bowl and room to eat more 🙈 It took 2 hrs for us to order, wait for a table (you also can’t find a table in advance - must get seated by staff), get our food, and eat. Don’t expect it to be in and out quickly if you’re dining there, esp at 12:15pm which is when we arrived. The soup was good but TINY and $5 🥲 (see pink bowl in picture)
