Opinions de June’s Pizza Oakland
Tucked away in an industrial zone, June's is manufacturing banger pizza! Very simple menu -- when we were there they had two pies: cheese and pepperoni. The pizzas are like a hybrid between New York and Napolitano styles: larger pies with NYC ingredients, cut into slices, but cooked hot and fast in a wood oven, like a Napolitano. The finished pie had a slightly chewier crust than your average NYC style slice. Pies are finished with what looked like Parmesan and Ramano cheeses along side a few leaves of basil. Dinner only -- serves whole pies until 9pm, and then the slices come out until midnight. June's joins a stellar list of elite east May pizza places where it's currently in a battle for a top five spot.
Excellent experience with Junes Pizza. After a recommendation from a coworker and checking out the instagram page and seeing the beautiful pizzas they make I was sure I had to come. A very unsuspecting exterior with simple signage it can be easy to miss but don’t be mistaken, the pizza is exceptional. They are on the higher end of pricing for a pizza. At the time of writing ~$32 for the Pizza Margherita and ~$36 for a pepperoni pizza, however I would say they are massive pizza’s and of incredibly high quality compared to the off the shelf / mass made pizza. I can finish a standard size pizza (if I want) by myself and I was feeling stuffed after half. The dough itself is a moderate thickness where you don’t feel like you’re stuffing yourself with bread but not so thin it feels like a thin crust so you feel like you’re getting a good pizza to sauce and cheese ratio. The dough and crust have a very good chew and the gluten has great structure requiring a nice bite to tear it. The pizza comes with a healthy serving of parm on the crust and an optional dipping sauce which greatly enhances the experience. I would say eating half the pizza and dipping with each bite I did run out of the sauce so if you want a dip with each bite I would probably go for two sauces. Junes offers an exceptional pizza and I would absolutely come back here regularly, the quality of the pizza experience is second to none
Hidden gem pizza store of Oakland. In-house made sourdough crust, with all pizzas made freshly by hand and to table in 15 minutes. The pizza portions were large and plated well – the pizza was showered in Parmesan that gives it the Instagram worthy photo! They have seasonal flavors that rotate every month and they only make a limited amount of the seasonal pizzas each day. Pepperoni ($36): Strong tomato flavor accompanied by thick and spicy pieces of pepperoni. Large basil leaves are added to the top which give the pizza a refreshing taste after every bite and mellows out the saltiness of the pepperoni. Porcini Mushroom ($38): Extremely strong mushroom flavor with a light buttermilk white sauce to balance it out. Every few bites you get a hint of lemon zest and herbs. This was my favorite pizza of the day because it’s unique flavor and ingredients that aren’t found in traditional pizzas. I would come back to Junes once a month to try their specialty pizzas! Make sure to come with a friend because they don’t sell individual slices. Atmosphere: upon driving up to the restaurant, you would not think it’s a restaurant but instead an abandoned warehouse. Parking is extremely limited with tiny slots. Seating is also limited so recommended to order to go or come with only another person.
There is great pizza all over the world, but this potentially is the best pizzeria in the world. And that’s coming from somebody whose favorite food is pizza, is a bit of a pizza snob, and literally has traveled the world eating at the best pizzerias in the world. Atmosphere is dope and very Oakland. But you’re reading this because you’re curious about the pizza. It’s an amazing mix between traditional (Neapolitan from Naples, Italy), American (New York style pies and slices), and Oakland (sour dough crust). What we love about this place is that you can taste every ingredient with every bite. You might look at their menu and think that they aren’t offering a lot, but that’s by design. What they offer is extremely high-quality and extremely well done! They are focusing on quality over quantity, which is exactly what every person should want when they bite into a slice of pizza. I cannot stress this enough: Jones’s Pizza gives every other pizzeria in the world a true run for their money. Don’t sleep on this place.
This is the best thin-crust pizza I’ve ever had—especially the crust. The pizzeria is small, either by necessity or intentionally designed that way: the pizza reaches your table almost the moment it leaves the oven, as if you’d pulled it out yourself. The crust is perfectly fresh, crunchy, and maintains its crunchiness (yes, crunchiness is a word). The toppings are relatively simple compared to places like Pizza 4P’s in Vietnam or many spots in Chicago, but a few flavors stand out and might shock your brain if you’re used to heavy toppings. By not over-topping the pizza, the texture of the crust stays crisp throughout our meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lively and fun, adding to the overall experience and making it a place I genuinely enjoy spending time in, and the large pizza served all five of us over a family-back-together-again conversation.
June’s Pizza feels like a small, gentle lesson in joy: nothing flashy, nothing unnecessary, just a beautifully presented pie that trusts its own simplicity. The soft, yielding crust carries everything with quiet confidence, the sauce tastes bright and honest, and the pared-down menu feels like an invitation to stop searching for more and simply receive what’s in front of you. Eating it becomes less about novelty and more about remembering how pleasure can live in restraint, how care can be tasted, and how something so simple can briefly make the world feel complete.
Some of the photos on Google Maps I saw made this place look dingy inside but it’s actually quite beautiful! They only serve 3 kinds of pizzas and do they do it well. I got the special porcini mushroom pizza with thyme and leek to share with my friend and we both really enjoyed it. The crust is super thin, well charred and you can see them working hard at it behind the bar! Really delicious, need to come back!
My quest for the East Bay's best pies led me to June's, and let me tell you, it more than lived up to the hype. The line snaked out of the restaurant on a Saturday evening, but this is no ordinary queue—it's a pilgrimage. With 20 minutes to wait, we found sanctuary next door at Brix Factory Brewing, where we sipped on an IPA and noticed almost every patron had a pizza box on their table. It was a beautiful preview of what was to come. The pizza itself was a masterpiece. The crust was a perfect blend of chewy and crisp, with just the right amount of char to give it a smoky, rustic finish. It was adorned with elegant ribbons of shaved Parmesan, which cascaded over the top like tinsel on a Christmas tree, along with a scattering of vibrant, fresh basil. But the real stars of the show were the hand-cut pepperoni. These little guys curled into delicious, crispy cups of flavor, cradling pools of savory oil in a way that just makes your soul sing. I came seeking a pie, and I found a work of art. I will absolutely be back to worship at the altar of June's pizza. Five stars, hands down!
It’s a pizza place in an old industrial building. I think my ex used to train for roller derby there. Still, the food was good, but not as good as the vibe. To be honest, I wouldn’t go crazy for this place. If anything it’s a humble pizza place in a rough part of town, not necessarily your next story on social media. You don’t need to book a plane ticket to get here, but for those of us in the surrounding community it is a good pizza place. I would encourage you to celebrate your own pizza place in your neighborhood before venturing here for your next “discovery.” You ain’t gotta blow them up or go full food critic on them. Let’s just say it’s a good slice after 10pm.
Limited options. Margherita and a special that is often just adding pepperoni. But the pizza is great!!! I drive about 20 minutes to get there. It's worth it. One of the best pizza crusts ever!! Reheats in oven really well too! Try it!
I would rate this amongst the top 3 pizza places in the Bay Area. They only make two pizzas (Margherita, Pepperoni) but they are to die for - the crust is chewy in a nice way, the cheese and basil are so yum. Seating can be hard especially on weekends.
Love this place, best pizza in the bay. A bit cramped parking and seating wise, but it's so worth it. This is the kind of pizza that elicits an involuntary moan when you get that first bite. Their garlic oil dip is awesome as well, but the crusts don't even need it. Good people making good food, gotta love it 😁🤌🫶
First time at June’s. Two pizzas on the menu—Margherita and a weekly special. That’s it. At $32 a pie, they better know what they’re doing. They do. The pizza’s light but satisfying. Crisp crust with a perfect chew. You get that deep wood-fired flavor right away. The dough walks the line between New York and Neapolitan—charred, airy, and clearly made by someone who cares. The garlic “dip” is something else. More pickled than creamy, sharp and punchy. If you like garlic, you’ll want to drown the whole thing in it. Wish they had a creamy dip such as ranch. Simple menu, big results. June’s gets it right. Our new go to pizza place in the East Bay.

They were out of everything but Margarita pizza. It was delicious! Perfect crust, tasty sauce, and the basil was fresh and aromatic.
The pizza was good but albeit inconsistent. They gave us a lot to cheese when requested which was awesome. But their lamb was very varied. The first lamb pizza we got was a bit bland n kinda gamey but then the next one was perfect and very flavorful. The staff was very nice and attentive and they indicated when the pizza would arrive. They have a nice gig next to brix factory brewing which makes it for a good beer n pizza joint.
Matt continues his excellent Pizza adventure with a stop at June's Pizza. I've been wanting to visit this place for awhile. This area is becoming the new food hangout for Oakland now the the Ballers are playing baseball right down the street. June's was offering two different pies this day: a margherita pizza for $32 and a spicy coppa pizza for $38. We went with the traditional margherita pizza which included beautiful fresh basil sprinkled on top. See the photo's below. The crust was perfectly crunchy and chewy at the same time with a bit of char on the edges. The sauce was elegant and a wonderful match for the fresh mozzarella cheese. The space is modern and welcoming, the neighborhood is industrial and safe. I ride my bike along Mandela Pkwy almost weekly and have never had an issue. It's a tough decision. The East Bay in particular has a cornucopia of beautiful Pizza places. But Matt says if you want a culinary experience you will never forget - It's June's Pizza for the win!
This is one of Oakland's most acclaimed pizzerias. They only make large pizzas, and always a margarita plus a special of the day, for $35 each. Also got the roasted garlic for dipping. All praise the copious amounts of parmesan around the pizza's edges! But we (four of us) thought the pizza wasn't quite worth the hype. Too much char for some, and I felt the tomato sauce needed more zip. Definitely wouldn't get the garlic dipping sauce again; the super-roasted flavor is nice, but the unexpected vinegar tang and all that oil was just unappealing. Maybe this spot is for the pizza aficionados, and we were not them. Would happily try a daily special pizza someday, but not going out of my way for it.
Great vibe and great for the neighborhood. Pizza was good but nothing spectacular and not quite worth the premium price based on the food alone. I’ve also gone for slices after 9pm before and there has been inconsistencies depending on who was finishing the pizza. First time was great - warmed up nicely, basil was torn and arranged nicely as well as generous with the finishing cheese. Second time, not warmed up all the way, skimped on the cheese and just threw a stem of basil into the box.
The atmosphere is great, lots of sun light, feels lively. Pizza is made to order and it’s available in less than 10 minutes. Staff are very professional, courteous, and helpful. The pizza is excellent. It’s a little bit more bready than the stuff I got in Naples, Italy, but the sauce is perfect, everything is cooked exactly as one would expect for Margherita. A touch of crispy burnt edges, which is normal for a great pizza. My pizza with a moderate tip was $40, and it was enough for 2 people. There is no table service, you pick the pizza up from the counter and bring it to your own table, so tipping is kinda just to be nice to the staff even though there are no waiters. *Edited “Margherita” due to autocorrect.
This was a great pizza spot, tucked away near a brewery. The place is quite interesting as it gives off as tho it’s fancy, but not at the same time. It might be because the lighting is dim, but i enjoyed it. We ordered the pepperoni pizza with basil. The dough was excellent and cheese was quite delicious. They shred a ton of fresh cheese on top! The pepperoni are sliced thick here and the basil is added on after the pizza has been cooked. Unfortunately they cannot cook it with the pizza. After 9pm they only serve margherita pizza so if you want any of their specials or a basic pep, go before 9pm. We went around 8pm and the place was packed. The lot is small so it was full and we just parked in the brewery’s lot. Since we went when there was a ton of people, there was almost no seating but we were able to grab some bar seating where they’re making the dough. Service is quick as we didn’t have to wait too long after ordering. As 9pm approached, the crowd died down and tables started to open up. I’d be interested to go back here again and try some of the specials.
Heard this pizza place was pretty popular and my friend has been wanting to go here for a long time. We were at a picnic at lake Merritt earlier in the day and def were in need of some food after drinking. We took a Lyft/uber there and the parking lot is very small. The line was quick and they only had 2 types to order, Margherita and pepperoni. A whole pizza is like $38 and we asked if we can do half and half and the person said it’s up charged so it’s like the same thing as ordering 2 pizzas. So we ordered 2 and we wanted to eat there then later get it to go but they gave it to us to go… the 2 large pizzas came out to like $90+ including tip so I thought it was pretty pricey. We saw people getting served cheese so we were excited for that but since it was to go they already put the cheese on it. We first tried the Margherita and we felt like that one was a little over cooked because it was very hard to eat and the crust was very hard, we were also kind of drunk still so that probably didn’t help. The pepperoni pizza was much softer and the pepperonis were spicy. There were 4 of us so we ate about half of it. I enjoyed the fresh basil. But the restaurant was busy and I’d like to give it another try. Nice vibe inside as well and pretty tight.
Great Margherita Pizza (all they had when we got there, couple of hours before close) and you could choose between a whole pie or a slice of it! The food gets 5 stars because it was very good and we got it fast and hot. We had a whole pie and by the time we went home only one slice was left! Atmosphere: Music was loud! They have big speakers overhead pushing the sound against the concrete walls and the only way to hear your partner is to speak even louder making the dinner experience a bit stressful but you will survive! Cost: a large pizza, 2 sodas and a small garlic sauce, to go, will hurt you on about $51! Service: Non existent!! The process is you get to the counter place your order (whole pie or slice) get a available table and when they call your name you get up to get it and return to your table! Now you are ready to eat! The only time I saw a crew member coming to the table was to clean it after we were done eating! Parking: By the time we got there, around 2 hours before closing, it was not a issue. Lots of parking space available! Conclusion: If you want try it for the food it is a good option but if you want good food and good service then it is not!

Pretty good but not the best of its style, which is a sourdough crust artisan pizza. Got one of the margherita and one of the pepperoni. Sauce lacked some flavor, could have been more sour or spicy. Dough lacked flavor since it seemed to be all 00 flour from central milling. Oven was too hot, so the crust was both undercooked (slight gum layer) and a bit burned. Pepperoni was very good, basil was good, cheese was fine (pure mozzarella and Parmesan on top). If you’re going to make a margherita pie that costs $32, I’d expect better cheese. Probably would rate it 7.4/10. Wish it were properly cooked.

I was so exited to come here and get a pizza tha I finally made it on Thursday night! Honestly the pizza just below average, I’m really sad to talk bad to a one of the only few place in Oakland but this pizza to me deserves just at the most two stars, two stars because is cooked in a fired wood oven and because I feel like they use real ingredients! But the pizza is not good at all (I’m sorry) not well cooked, all that damn parmigiano!! And that SFAttitude!!! This place unfortunately doesn’t fit my sartsrd especially after the heavy and gassy all night! For me is a BIG NO! And please please please do not call it Margherita !!!! This is NOT a margherita!
