Opinions de The Halal Guys Oakland
Our first time trying Colombian food and it was delicious. Cute neighborhood, lovely friendly service. I definitely understand why it's Michelin recommended. The lunch menu has an excellent selection, keep in mind the dishes are very hearty. I definitely want to come back for dinner. The lechon appetizer with yucca fries was addicting, especially with the sauce. My favorite dish was the Arepas con Chocolo, it tasted like the freshest corn and the cheese perfectly balanced the sweetness. The pulled pork rice dish was yummy, Chicharrónes were a little salty and the anise Arepas weren't to my personal taste but done very well.
The ceviche with coconut milk was the standout for me (look, if you make a delicious broth/sauce, I WILL be drinking the dregs from the bowl regardless of tasteful atmosphere). Wound up here with a friend during a lunch rush and our server Maine was both swift and attentive, and a huuge help navigating the menu and putting together the perfect meal to share.
Fun, lively atmosphere; intimate & darkly lit at night. Friendly, attentive service. Ordered Chia Ceviche, Bruselas el Prado, Arepa Paisa, Posta Negra, and Pan de Yuca Waffle. Ceviche and tapa-style plates were delicious, as well as the juicy braised short rib and mash. Wasn’t a huge fan of the waffle but appreciated the unique floral presentation. Stunning bar.
The food is simply amazing. The presentation of the food is impeccable, and every dish I've tried has been both delicious and nicely put together. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a vibrant decor that perfectly complements the food and the overall dining experience. The cocktails are also exceptional, a great complement to the food.
I decided to sit at the bar here on a whim and was completely impressed by so much: both the drinks and food were beautiful, rich, and craveable; the staff were all friendly; the atmosphere was lively. If you want to guarantee yourself a table, make a reservation because the place is popular (for good reason)!
Incredible meal—got 8 courses + 2 desserts with 5 of us. Everything was delicious. Portion sizes were very generous for less filling dishes and lighter for richer dishes. Every course was playful and adventurous without being inaccessible. Great mocktails too. Will go back when next in town. All GF kitchen.
We had the absolute pleasure of dining at Parche Oakland, and from start to finish, it was an incredible experience! We ordered a variety of dishes and every bite was packed with flavor. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering creative and beautifully plated dishes that truly showcase their culinary expertise. A huge shoutout to April, who assisted us the entire time—her hospitality elevated the experience beyond just a meal. She made sure every detail was perfect and added a personal touch that made us feel genuinely welcomed. We were celebrating my birthday, and Parche went above and beyond to make it special. The entire restaurant contributed to the lively and festive atmosphere, making it a celebration to remember. The cocktails were outstanding, the ambiance was perfect for a date night, and the energy of the restaurant was infectious. If you’re looking for a vibrant, delicious, and immersive dining experience, Parche Oakland is a must-visit. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely be back!
Had lunch with 2 of my girlfriends on a weekday and we were seated immediately. It was all of our first time there, and we loved it. We will be back to try more! Let's get into it: Menu: We came during lunch so we had the lunch menu as well as the Restaurant Week fixed menu. We didn't opt for it because we wanted to try some other items but we heavily considered it. The regular lunch menu was great - 1 page and yet had many options for us. The back listed several great looking drink options. Appetizers: Everything we ordered was extremely flavorful. We ordered the Salmon Salpicon and Bruselas El Prado to share. The salmon dish was so good and rich. We wish it came with just a few more more plantain crisps but that's our preference. We said we'd come back for that and drinks alone...unless we got the rest of our dishes. The Brussel sprouts were so well flavored and perfectly charred and crispy. I would eat that on it's own. Main Dishes: We order 3 dishes including: Arepa con Queso, Colombian Chorizo Hotdog, and Posta Negra Sando. I had the Arepa and it was a wonderful vegetarian arepa dish filled with a mix of root veggies, cauliflower and broccoli all topped with an egg. So filling. Highly recommend. I don't eat meat so I didn't eat the other dishes but my friends were not disappointed. Service: The servers were great. Very genuine interactions. They checked in on us periodically and were never far if we needed something. Ambiance: The place itself was beautifully decorated. I wish I took pictures of the inside of the restaurant. Overall, a wonderful treat to experience with friends. Treat yourself to this place! We'll be back to try more food and check out their dinner menu.
Did the Prix Fixe NYE dinner and it was actually impressively delicious. I wasn't sure it would be worth the price tag but service was excellent, portions were very generous, menu + flavors were quite exquisite and the wine pairing was insanely reasonably priced. Really a delicious and impressive experience all around.
We were in town for a concert and I found this place while searching for vegan options. Walking in, we were blown away by how beautiful this place is. Everything from the lighting, music, artwork was just so pleasing. Our servers were so attentive and helpful. The food was divine and even my omnivore husband admitted that the vegan dishes stole the show. Even if you just stop in for a drink, you will love this place. We will definitely be back!
Wow this place is good. The server was incredibly kind and helpful. The food was insanely good. We got one ceviche and one entree each. The server did say that it was a lot, but we were really hungry and they were supportive of the idea. I got the short ribs plate and it was insane--I was curious of the flavor combination because I'm a huge stickler for good short ribs. I was proven wrong--the flavor combinations worked fantastically well. The coconut/yuca mash complimented the rich rib meat amazingly. My fiancé had the mojarra frita and it was also insanely delicious. Full of flavor and cooked beautifully crispy but still tender. The spicy potatoes that came with the dish were to die for. Overall, an absolutely delicious and wonderful experience. Would highly recommend to anyone.
This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The empanadas were some of the best I've ever had. We split a couple entrees for lunch and everything we tried was excellent. The bartender Luis had some great recommendations for drinks and service was exceptional. A very memorable meal that couldn't have been better.
This place is a gem! Exactly the kind of fresh, fun vibe I was looking for! The food is delicious and the flavors are perfectly balanced. Not to mention the whole kitchen is gluten free! The Amarantha cocktail was divine and not too sweet. The atmosphere is lively, a little sexy, and full of good energy. My new favorite restaurant!
Amazing food, amazing vibes. The portions were larger than expected, which is a nice surprise And everything was so delicious. The staff were amazing. Would recommend for a date night, girls night or a solo date
Beautifully decorated with local Columbian history and traditions on display in a modern, upscale way. Staff is as amazing as the number of times they use the word. Food is craveable and leaves you planning a return visit halfway through the meal. I appreciate when chefs can add a twist to traditional meals without losing the core foundation of it, the essence of the experience and the flavors. So well done, Chef!
The short rib shareable was incredible. The drinks were good though I didn’t know exactly what I was ordering. The atmosphere was so cool - glad we stumbled upon this place!!
My socks are all the way in Berkeley because they were KNOCKED off. The depth of flavor and creative surprises of sweet and savory in these dishes was like finding a new religion. A truly joyous culinary experience. Our queen Jackie was so wonderful and served us up some lovely recommendations. Celery root is now a staple in my home kitchen. Thank you. 🙏
Absolutely wonderful experience at Parche. First time here, my mom and I came for a late lunch. The owner or manager was at the front, very friendly and sat us and brought water. The wait staff was lovely, explained a few menu items (I'm not super familiar with Colombian food), and gave recommendations. Ordered drinks and entrees - everything was beautiful. From the glassware and dishes to the drink garnish to the plating of the food. Entree sizes were bigger than expected, and we finished every bite - it was all so delicious. Kind, knowledgeable service, cool atmosphere, delicious drinks and food. Will be coming back!
Excellent food, the ceviche is all incredible. They had a huge selection of drinks. It was great to visit in December, they had holiday themed options and we shared an incredible steak.
Wow! What a great place to try Columbian food. We had the ceviche, Brussels sprouts and the bisteak on garlic mashed potatoes. ALL excellent! The server was friendly, attentive and responsive. I will be back!
Amazing food, amazing ambiance. The ceviche was truly life changing. Trout with squid ink, mango puree, crispy salmon skin + plantains for dipping 😱 textures 10/10. The flavors were tropical like a ceviche should be, but still unique. Best ceviche I’ve ever had. I wish I was kidding but the waiter asked if we were done as I was scraping the plate, plantain in hand. I had to forfeit the remains. Crispy chicharrones were probably my favorite dish. They were paired with quite an acidic sauce and I think it really added depth to the meat. We got into brussel sprouts from teleferic and therefore also have high expectations for them. And parche’s did not disappoint whatsoever. Every single brussel sprout was evenly crispy and caramelized. The posta negra was a braised short rib with the most beautiful sauce combo — some typical sweet meat sauce with yuca-coconut mash???? Hello??? Absolutely insane. Coming from somebody who doesn’t even enjoy coconut. The meat was sooooo tender too oh my god For dessert, we got the oblea Santander which was like a layered cookie with dulce de leche, cherry jam, and cheese (we were feeling experimental). SO GOOD. The cheese was naturally sweet but still a bit savory, balancing the sweetness from the dulce de leche and jam.
I’ve eaten here more than 10 times. I’ve never had one bad meal here, not one. I have impressed a lot of people that I have brought here with me from the harden foodie to the person who needs gluten free. Their gluten free menu is spectacular. This restaurant works hard on all fronts. The service is always warm and on point. Periodically, there is a a massive breakout celebration going on for someone’s party. The mood is chill and unpretentious. Do yourself a favor and experience it yourself!
Great food with good vibes. Loved the fresh ingredient and flavors. Dont miss the chocolate cake dessert and drinks.
Outstanding wait service, our Chef Sing Love absolutely amazing, excellent food, with short ribs and potatoes, and the other dish was plantains with beef, incredible. Our service manager brought us the finest Oaxaca Rum, an incredible place to dine in downtown Oakland!
Honestly, I was blown away by Parche! A friend had gotten me a gift card for my birthday as I am gluten-free, so I went going in with no expectations and sat with a friend at the bar with no reservations. Our bartender was great! She helped us order and recommended DELICIOUS drinks! Como un lulo and Molienda (We also yapped forever and she refilled our waters and didn't make us feel like we had to leave, although we were more than willing if they needed our seats.) We ordered the Tumaca Ceviche as was the bartender's recommendation and it was so delicious we drank all the broth. The patacones, which came with delicious salsas and sauces, and the Pesca Samira which was sooooo good! We also ordered the Arroz Attollado which actually was way too much even though it was all good so I brought that home for leftovers which which great the next day! We were so full we didn't order dessert! I think the candela would be a better drink with dessert or on its own as the cinnamon was a bit strong with fish, as that was our second drink of the night we probably didn't even need it. Otherwise, no notes! The space was beautiful, the bartender gave great service to us, and the vibes were great! Felt like such a nice Oakland Friday night and such a great surprise.
This place is amazing! Delicious food, tasty cocktails, and great service. Love de decor and ambience too. Highly recommend this restaurant!
We went because they were featured in the guide Michelin and it didn't disappoint. We had their ceviche (salty and spicy 🔥) with great seasonal cocktails. We tried their traditional dishes which were filling, although I wouldn't consider it refined food their take on it was good.

Food is delicious. Place is very nice. Service is great. Here is everything we tried and our rating: - Sweet potato gnocchi : very flavorful! The eggplant and hazelnut sauce base is creative! Solid 5/5 - Empanadas: must try. We ended up ordering 2 rounds of these. The frying makes it a little heavy but the taste and the aioli dip are divine. 6/5 …awesome! - Tumaco ceviche: interesting acidic flavors. The crispy plantain chips were the highlight for us. 3/5 …the acidity wasn’t hitting right but it’s still really good. - Carpaccio: the sweet tangy sauce makes this really nice. 3.5/5
1st dining at this restaurant and it was beyond my expectations! Absolutely delicious food, wonderful cocktails, and delightful service. I felt like I was sitting in a restaurant in South America. Do unique layers of flavors of each dish we had was extremely memorable. No one was talking at our table. We were too busy devouring the food in front of us. The only disappointment was the plantain gnocchi was not available so I will come back for sure to try this enticing dish!
I had a really great experience at this food place and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a solid, enjoyable meal. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy some good food. The menu offers a nice variety of options, with something for every taste. Everything I ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The portions were generous, and the presentation was appealing. You can tell quality ingredients are used, which makes a big difference in the overall experience. The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout my visit. Orders were taken quickly, food came out in a timely manner, and everything was accurate. The team made sure customers were taken care of without being overbearing, which I really appreciated. The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, with a pleasant vibe that made dining in enjoyable. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or sitting down for a full meal, it’s a great place to eat. Overall, this food place delivers exactly what you want: tasty food, great service, and a welcoming environment. It’s clear they care about their customers and take pride in what they do. I’ll definitely be coming back and would recommend it to friends and family without hesitation!
Came here for happy hour and was truly impressed! The cocktails were well made, the food delicious and flavorful and the service was so kind and attentive. Definitely worth a visit especially for the Yuma fries with chicarrón!

The overall experience was very good. The food is great, with the caveat that the salad had a bit too much dressing - next time I will order with the dressing on the side, and that’s my recommendation. Other than that, everything was delicious (salad, non alcoholic drinks), and the service was friendly, attentive and professional. Higher recommended, and a nice addition to the neighborhood
We stopped in on a Thursday afternoon at 1pm for lunch. The restaurant was unusually business with a very large group that had decided to dine there as they celebrated. The host let us know upfront that the kitchen was a little backed up since they were caught off guard by how business it was. They were still able to seat us within a couple of minutes. Our server came around quickly and let us know again that there might be a little wait on the food. We were not in a hurry, so we didn’t mind. Throughout the meal the service was good with only one small flaw that we had asked for a side of the onion relish that was never brought to our table. In terms of the food it was solid with the exception of the patacones. We are Costa Rican and eat patacones weekly and are very familiar with how to make them, these were beyond overcooked and left a subtle charred taste in your mouth. At first we thought for some reason they had intended them to be that way, thinking perhaps a cultural difference in preparation but we saw all the other tables and golden patacones instead of brown ones. Someone took their eye off of them and instead of making new ones decided to serve them. This was the only part of the meal that was disappointing. My husband enjoyed the whole fish, appreciating that it is served with head on as he is use to back home. It was a good portion and had solid flavor. I had the vegetarian bowl which was good, although the squash was a little undercooked but still very much edible. The Brussels sprouts were delicious and the patacones appetizer would have been great as well with the 2 topping options if they had not been over cooked. All in all we would come back, and appreciated that you could please everyone from vegan, vegetarian, and carnivorous alike.
If you’re here with a large party I would recommend every 2-3 people order an entree and appetizer to share. The appetizers are on the small side if being shared. Beautifully decorated!
This is my fist time in this restaurant and we love the food and the service. The only thing we didn’t like that much was the host. We arrived few minutes late and we called to let them know plus we confirmed the automated message too, and she was not very friendly and she said”well you arrived late so you can have the table with limited time…” we were celebrating my sisters birthday and we thought ok we will have to order now and we don’t have enough time for dessert… we arrived at 5:40 and at the end anybody said anything, we left at 7:40.. no rush, so it’s not necessary that the host warned us that we have limited time, she could be more friendly the next time instead of setting the wrong expectation, I felt I was eating very fast. Besides that the food was amazing and great staff.
I have no complaints about the food!! It’s delicious. But the wait time for the food during non rush hour is kind of crazy … it was at least 25 minutes after we placed the order , The area plate had so many butts of the squash, I’m not against being respectful and use everything and every part of the vegetable. But ALL of the squash on my plate were end parts of the squash which was a bit irritating.
Very delicious food! The most yummy shocking surprise was actually the flan. Otherwise the pork belly and pork chop were incredible. Brussel sprouts were what you’d expect. Only disappointment was the drink service was quite slow.

This restaurant is truly a little gem of Colombia in Oakland. The service was genuinely nice and welcoming, even though I could tell they were a bit short staff and they still handled everything with grace. I absolutely loved the presentation and flavor of the salmon ceviche. It was fresh, vibrant, and beautifully plated. I also ordered an espresso martini; it was good, but I personally missed that little touch of Baileys to make it perfect. The décor is colorful, lively, and full of personality it really adds to the whole experience. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because my steak arrived slightly cold. However, it's nothing they can't improve, and I'm definitely willing to give them a second chance very soon. Thank you, Parche team see you soon!
Went for lunch. Awesome ambiance, sad I didn’t get to try a cocktail but I bet they’re great! The ceviche was flavorful but it was mostly liquid and had only a ridiculously few small pieces of fish. Also had the short rib sandwich which was delicious. Prices seem high in comparison to the portions but the flavors are good. Service was very friendly but was only offered more iced tea after we paid the check.

This place serves good food, but you should avoid avoid ordering the empanada. At the price point of $19 for 2 I was expecting the bigger size you see in Colombia, but they’re not it’s just a regular size empanada. The taste of them were also nothing exceptional, you can easily find better tasting ones elsewhere for $4-6 each. Aside from this the other dishes we ordered were good and somewhat fairly priced.
Very beautiful restaurant, and maybe I just came in on an off day, but I had this place on my list for a while. The ceviche was nicely presented and the ingredients worked well together, but it was lacking seasoning. I also wasn’t sure if bottled lime juice was used as the base, which gave it a flat taste. After adding some salt, the flavors improved and I enjoyed it more. Then came the chicharrón con yuca. I’ll admit I messed up here—I probably should’ve ordered another entrée instead of trying too much at once. The server explained that their version of chicharrón (pork belly) is intentionally served chewy rather than crispy, but it was far tougher than expected and not enjoyable in texture. I didn’t expect a refund or anything like that, but I do think feedback is important. I truly hope to come back and give this place another try, because I’d love to find some authentic Colombian food in the Bay Area.

The fried plantains had the flavor of cardboard. Tried both ceviches and they were very light on the fish and totally smothered in goopy, fat sauce. The waiters bothered us every 5 minutes and seemed generally anxious and manic. My suggestion if you go: first try ONE small plate and if you aren’t in love with it, cut your losses and go somewhere else. Better restaurants in Oakland for sure.
2nd visit. First time, food was okay but expensive. This evening, food was even more expensive, mediocre at best and they never brought us our ordered entree. For 3 of us, a $100 happy hour quality meal with unorganized service. Brussel sprouts way too sweet. The $21 arepas - tricked out with sauce and beans, a far from arepas we had in Columbia. Can’t comment on the bistec because it never was served to us, and we had to request that the charge be removed from our bill. Clearly a popular place but for us, Oakland residents, there are better alternatives in Uptown. Not going back.
