A very particular style of pizza that JUST WORKS! Not greasy like a true Chicago deep dish pie, but doughy and delicious! Get the pesto drizzle on top...you're welcome!

4/21/2018. The pizza at this location will not disappoint you. I order the medium Good Health Specialty Pizza and one Mint Ice Tea. The order turned out to be $50 tip and tax included. It was a little busy but we were seated pretty quick.

Crowded beyond belief because it's darn good deep dish! Came due a very impromptu birthday dinner for son with 18 guests and they somehow made it all work! Our server was especially fantastic working several tables and making sure everyone was happy. And all five pizzas were excellent!!!

The pizza here is made fresh. My mother-in-law mentioned that she wanted some delicious, fresh pizza, so I found this place on Google. I knew it was something special when I arrived and saw the line out the door. The business was packed, with patrons enjoying their pizza inside. It's located in a trendy part of town. My mom really enjoyed the pizza, and I think I’ll make it a regular spot for her.

Amazing service with a smile also they have gluten free pizza with a little bit of cross contamination cause of there other pizzas but still my favorite.

Zach's pizza will almost always look pretty crowded as it is in fact a poppin environment. Their servers are very friendly and quick to respond. We ordered a large thin pizza that was half good health and half Zach's special. It was very juicy and delicious. I would definitely frequent this place more often.

Zachary’s is an Oakland classic. The spinach and mushroom pizza is a must-try, and it even takes good as breakfast for the next day. They also have some good vegan options, including vegan pizza. Though the pizza is fantastic, Zachary’s also excels with their atmosphere. The walls are decorated with community-made Zachary’s themed posters, the staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful, and the restaurant is owned by the employees.

Still the best freaking pizza in the East Bay! Haven't been here in 10 years and waltzed in tonight and felt right at home. The food is delicious, the service is spot on. Not to be missed!

Everything was on point during my visit- Food was fresh, delicious, and brought out promptly. Their hard apple cider was also a great compliment to the meal! Our server, Liam was also extremely attentive and didn't hesitate to swap out an item that didn't meet expectations. My only suggestion would be to add some dessert items to the menu.

THIS PIZZA IS SO TASTY NFKFKRKOCLSKSKXKNFKEK. Okay, I have come here once a year for a while before I started attending college here, so you know I have been craving to come back!! We came here and got a medium Chicken Special pizza for $26 ish (including cash excluding tip), which is around $3.30 for huge, delicious slices. The establishment is open for indoor dining and as per usual the service was great. Look forward to coming again soon :3

Olives mushrooms deep dish !! Pretty good !! Definitely not the best pizza I’ve had . But I can say it might be the best deep dish in the East bay ! Fresh produce the mushrooms were really juicy . Highly recommended

Deep dish mushroom and spinach add sausage......there is none better.... we were trying different combos a few years back and we asked one of the servers what would be something good to try and they suggested that..... it's pretty much the only Pizza I ever order now.....and it is good...... a tip... if you take it to go or you have leftovers make sure that there's foil between the pizza and the cardboard.....it will stick

One of the few pizza places in the Bay Area we like. Great options and ALWAYS great taste. We have only had thin crust, which is good and crunchy. You can't go wrong here. Do yourself a favor and skip Round Table and Mountain Mikes. Get Zachary's instead!

We don't live near any Zachary's locations so we always look forward to having any stuffed pizza, while in the neighborhood! I first heard about Zachary's on TV in the early 90's and I've never had a negative experience! The 🍕 has always been fresh and delicious! The staff are friendly and helpful.

Hands down the most delicious deep dish you'll find in the Bay. Incredibly buttery delicious crust, fresh toppings, cheese, and the sauce.... the sauce brings it all together for one of the best pies you could ever ask for. If you're looking for some stellar pie, then look no further than Zachary's.

We had a fantastic deep dish pie with mushrooms, spinach and anchovies. Great crust, the perfect amount of cheese and sauce was not too acidic. So...excellent pizza, great service..but it was really dirty in here when we visited. On a certain level we could understand as it must have been after a major rush...but there's no reason for food service gloves to be on the dining room floor. It won't stop me from trying another time though!

We ordered the bbq chicken and mushroom flavor, both are fantastic! Though it took 30 mins wait for the pizza but worth the wait. The pizza got tick crush and juicy tomato sauce, quite different from other pizza.

Came here after 10 years. Always had fond memories of this place. This time I brought the family. Surrounded by an amazing neighborhood stands Zachary's. Just across the street from Trader Joe's. We ordered the Zachary's Special stuffed. Sausage; onions; mushrooms and green peppers. After a 30 minute word search battle, the masterpiece came out. It was just as I remembered. Thin cracker like crust. Thick slightly tart sauce covered the pie. Flavors were good. Staff was also very friendly and everyone seemed happy. It's then I noticed the employee owned signs. Great pizza worth the 30 minute wait. It's no surprise it's been in business for 40+ years.

“The cheese is under the sauce” meme reminds me of this place…true authentic deep dish pizza that is delicious and well balanced! The crust doesn’t fall apart when you pick it up despite the dense cheesy fillings - truly a feat of science and/or miracle. If you come here, you must get the deep dish pizza. It is SO GOOD. Be aware from the moment you order, it takes 30-40 minutes to get to your table because they make it in house. I would recommend a salad or the meatballs as an app!

When we arrived it was insanely crowded but we were told that we could order and they would try to have our pizza ready when there was a table ready for us. We had a good sized group so it was going to be about a 45 minute wait but they ended up moving tables for us so we got to sit down after only about 5 minutes and we really appreciated that, as we had a few young children with us. The stuffed pizza was something really new for us but it was really good!

The 8th deadly sin, giving in to the Zachary's craving. It can be very busy but they have a good system for getting you served relatively quickly. The pizza is amazing if you love Chicago style. The tomatoes that they use for their topping and sauce taste so fresh and ripe. I've been to the other location but this one just seems better.

We're visiting from Australia and never had Chicago style pizza until I went here! We ordered a large thinking 'oh yeah that should be enough' not realising that this pizza could easily feed at least 4 maybe 5 people - let's just say we had epic leftovers for a few days 😂 Also the person that took our order was so nice and super accommodating when it came to our dietary requirements. Couldn't recommend this place more. Definitely go here!

Zach's is by far the GREATEST deep dish pizza I have ever had the pleasure of eating. That is a bold statement I know, but I have eaten at every restaurant they have in the Bay Area and never been disappointed. For the past 18 years I have traveled 400 miles just for a slice (Ok I visited friends and family too) at least once a year I know the pizza will delight my tastebuds and I look forward to every delicious bite. I'm already longing for my next trip to Berkeley...till then I will dream of their pizza. Some things to know about the Zachary's experience; be patient. Perfection takes about 45 minutes to bake and the lines do get long. You can pre-order a deep dish pizza while you wait for a table and have it arrive soon after you are seated. Also be amazed by all the Artwork adorning the hallowed wall. All fan created and all praising the pizza we love. I'm sure there are good deep dish pizza parlors here in L.A. but I have yet to find one. I am always open to new pizza experiences so if there are any suggestions, I'm willing to try them!

The pizza here is delicious! It's a true deep dish pizza. It is hand made and cooked to order, so expect some time for your order. But it is well worth the wait. The atmosphere is artsy, with tons of zachary's inspired artwork all over the place. The music is eclectic and fun. Also the meatballs for the appetizers are off the hook.

This is my favorite deep dish pizza. I usually get the meat and add artichokes. The place is cute, you can seat down and grab a beer while you wait for the deliciousness. Staff is friendly

Tried this place after being recommended as a top 3 pick by a Google employee. Both the price and the extra 15 minute wait for the deep dish was totally worth it. By using the best ingredients means that even the healthiest option is absolutely delicious!

Hands down the best Chicago style pizza in the bay area. Expect a wait when going during normal lunch and dinner time. Good beer selection also.

Zachary’s is one of the few places in Oakland that still has an affordable lunch deal! I had an hour to kill in that area and I was looking for something to eat, the pizza aroma was reaching all the way across the street. I was checking the menu and I saw a $12 dea that served a slice of pizza, a side Caesar salad and a soft drink. I wondered if that would be filling and it was actually perfect! The salad was well dressed, creamy, tangy, garlicky with plenty of cheese and the server cracked some fresh black pepper on top. The pizza was a generous portion with well seasoned tomato sauce. I liked how the new staff was attentive, even when they were being trained. Definitely recommend it!

First time at Zachary’s Chicago Pizza. This place is top notch. Everything was delicious. You can order by the slice or the full pie. Thankfully they have gluten free options too. So delicious. My daughter had the original pepperoni and sausage deep dish stuffed. She loved it.

Word on the street is that the people that fled the crazy of California to move to Texas still come here for Pizza and discover ways to smuggle it back in their luggage. I wouldn’t recommend that cuz you’d have to pay the “Heavy Bag” charge. I bought a 10” deep dish Chicken and basil special and it was thicker than your grandmas thighs. Pizza was delicious. I could only muscle down 2 slices. Now I don’t have to go to Chicago and risk getting 2 bullets to the chest to for the Pizza experience.

I’ve eaten at Zachary’s all over the Bay Area for years, and tonight was a surprising disappointment. Our deep dish chicken special was extremely dry as well as our regular pepperoni pizza. Not the usual quality for the price ($66)! UPDATE as of 11/2/22: After I posted my original review, a Zachary’s employee contacted me and apologized. They asked for more info to correct the problem and invited me back for another try. The second pizza was much better and had more sauce than the first one and not as dry. I really appreciate they care enough to listen and want to improve. Thank you!

The pizza here is exceptional. I shared a Zachary’s Special small pizza with a friend, and it exceeded my expectations. The service was just as good as the food. Thanks for being just as awesome as I remembered from my college days!

Always love coming here for dinner. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, whether it's pizzas or the appetizers, and they will try to work with dietary restrictions. Definitely the best deep dish pizza spot outside of Chicago in my book. Be warned it's definitely easy to underestimate the size of their pizzas. A small deep dish is definitely going to be enough for two average size adults.

Love love love this place. From my first post up until this post. If you are a true pizza lover, this is your soul mate . The location is iconic and I think the best part is al.of the art work all around the restaurant from student who draw their version of advertising Zachary's. We had the barbecue chicken and a build you own. Both pizzas were very good and the BBQ chicken pizza was pretty similar to the pizza from CPK. The crust was on the harder size which may hurt your teeth or braces.

The deep-dish Chicago style was so good I forgot to take pictures of it. The price may seem high, but most people can only eat one slice of the deep-dish allowing to stretch it out. Also, it keeps well as left overs at home. Their thin crust is excellent also. It has a good flavor slightly heavier than a New York flaky thin crust. I, who is not a fan of thin crust, enjoy their thin crust pizzas on occasion. The single serve salads are large, their shared salad size is huge. At lunch and dinner time their setting generally is full with a wait. The deep-dish pizzas take about 35 minutes to cook. They stopped their loyalty program. 😞

Zachery will always have a spacial place in my heart but sometimes a bad customer service will ruin an experience alone. And this was one of those moments that can make you think twice. I learned our server name at the end was Logan?!? Guess not important cause we didn't see him once!!! We got to watch him service everyone around us like ring around the rosey but kept us on "ignore only". When he did come by he said he was going on his lunch break and I was like "who are you?" He was like your server and I laughed and said really. We had Maggie instead and she was quite wonderful!! First time we got water or acknowledge since we got there she was amazing. And what's his face only came back to drop off the check so I made sure I gave Maggie , his intended tip. Working as a server doesnt entitle me to tip bad server, that what's your hourly for 🤷🏾‍♀️. Thanks Maggie!! Hope you get a raise!!

Pizza thin crust is really "regular" thin (not like Italian real thin crust). I like the Hawaiian one with thin crust. Deep dish just go with classic. Adding sausage in deep dish may be better. There are beer and wine offerings in the restaurant. Good for both family and friends, or take out :)

Finally tried this gem! Must try the stuffed mushroom and spinach. The crust and sauce are too good to be true! The chicken barbecue is also so good and I liked how it still had some marinara and went well with the sweetness of the barbecue sauce. 2 mediums was too much for 2 people but having this pizza for 3 days sounds lovely! Lovely place and staff!

I’ve visited Zachary’s Chicago Pizza a few times, and this time, my friend recommended the pesto pizza, which was absolutely delicious. The College Ave location definitely felt fresher compared to other spots I’ve been to. Our server was fantastic—super friendly with a big smile, which made our experience even better. However, the cashier wasn’t as pleasant. She was a bit rude and seemed to ignore us when we tried to ask if it was possible to modify our order. Despite that, we decided to order a bit more to take home, and the food was still great. Overall, we had a positive experience and would definitely return for the delicious pizza. Just a small note on the customer service, which could be improved.

It’s been yeeeeears since I’ve had an honest to goodness Chicago deep dish pizza. Zachary’s does this very well so it’s worth all these five star ratings. The staff was kinda and had my order to go in about thirty minutes. WOW! That first bite was an explosion of fresh mozzarella, robust tomatoes, and great pepperoni. All of the flavors just hit you like an old school Mike Tyson uppercut. The small size gets you six THICK slices of pizza…and it was an inch high!

Pretty legit Chicago deep dish for a respectable price. A large can comfortably feed 3. Have been here a handful of times and always left with a positive impression. The deep dish is fairly authentic, probably similar to Lou’s in Chicago, but sausage is a bit lacking here. Recommend the Zachary’s special, carne, or any veggie pizza. Everything from the cheese to the tomato sauce and crust are good. Nicely sweet and filling. I recommend you get the pizzas made well done to get that crispy crust. The “thin crust” is good but probably not worth the price. Come here for the deep dish and you’ll leave satisfied! Recommend coming at lunch to avoid any waits. Also, eating deep dish at night can be pretty heavy after. Don’t be afraid of leftovers. These pizzas might actually be even better reheated the next day. Servers are always friendly and helpful with any questions. Have heard salads are good, but I’ve only paid attention to the pizzas, the stars of the show.

My boo took me here as a surprise after work. I love the 80s pizza place vibe of the place and the cool artwork on the walls. We ordered the carne pizza and salad. Yummy, yummy deep dish pizza and arugula salad that we substituted for spring mix because they were out of arugula. Would come back again!

Very very yummy. We had the deep dish Carne and now I want to come back and try all the other flavors of their stuffed pizzas. We had a salad with apples that was very tasty as well. Drove from the peninsula just to try out their food and I can say I recommend the spot. Also liked the feel of the restaurant, very casual and unpretentious.

The servers were friendly and helpful. Parking could be an issue sometimes. The stuffed (deep dish) pizzas are really heavy and filling. A stuffed small 10” pizza would easily feed two hungry adults. You can always take the leftovers but just be aware of how filling these deep dish pizzas are!

A nice little pizzeria. Had the Chicago deep dish pizza, it was very good, and even the small pie can be enough people. Nice Ambiente and beautiful interior, the service was great and it was overall a good experience. The restaurant is also in a very nice area and definitely worth a visit.

The pizza was good! The seasoning was my favorite. I think the staff is newer because it took them a while to take our order and bring our beer. I think our pizza came before our beer... they were defiantly busy from restaurant week, so that is also a good sign. The tomatoes on the Zach’s pizza special was perfect .

I ordered a thin crust slice and it was okay, but not the best. Possibly reheated. Ordering and receiving was flawless, and took minimal time. For me, the restaurant is dimly lit and ready for a little facelift, but it’s pleasant. Nice posters.

I have had pizza as good as this only in and within a relatively short driving distance of Chicago. The plentiful sauce is spiced perfectly and chunky and there is plenty of gooey cheese, with the spinach and mushrooms. Though I carried my order out, I recognized the atmosphere as very much like places close to my home, simple decor, a big vibrant crowd of friendly neighborhood family types mingling with students, the staff was friendly and efficient while seemingly moving at light speed. Located In Rockridge, near the BART station. IMHO, Zachary’s is a pizza to go out of your way to obtain.

Great pizza hangout for the Bay Area. Currently been on a quest for quality Pizza and you have to have a placeholder for Chicago Style. This place definitely gave me the vibe of a Chicago style parlor. I took a star off, for I was sadly informed that you can only order a whole pie of Chicago style and not just a slice, which has always been an option for Chi Parlors across the country. As I was here solo, I didn’t want to be wasteful, so I deferred to the alternative and it didn’t meet my expectations. The crust was too hard and excessive amounts of corn starch. Now don’t think I’m just harping here. I can say that the Chicago Style pizza did look tasty and anticipating on going back to try those.

First time here & ordered the thin crust pizza instead of famous deep dish version. Got half Zachary special & pizza Blanca in large size (14"). Love the Zachary, very juicy & flavorful. Pizza Blanca was ok, too much cheeses for me & bit bland. The pizza came out in regular thickness not so thin crust that I expected. I am looking for thin crust like Cheeseboard pizza in Berkeley. Otherwise, the pizza was crunchy given the thickness just too much bread for me :) great customer service & plenty of tables. Affordable price. Street parking is easy to find on weekend.

To be fair, if you like Chicago style, then you may rate it higher than me. But here’s how I see it. We ordered Caesar salad, the Zachary’s 10” stuffed, and one slice of cheese and sausage thin. Two of us. Thank goodness for the slice and salad because the stiffed took almost 40 minutes. The Caesar was very good. They have a nice. Albeit white garlicky, dressing and anchovies. Crisp lettuce. And the thin slice was pretty good, but the crust is pretty hard. Maybe in my head I was imagining it’d be like New York style since they called it “thin”. But it was tasty. The stuffed was pretty for sure but the massive tomato is just not my thing. At least the tomatoes were on the sweet side, not sour at all. When you finally make your way to the crust, it’s quite doughy. Tasty, but doughy. And filling! I only ate two pieces. We left with about half the 10” stuffed to go. The wait service was good. They were very nice and only the one pizza took forever. Everything else was quick. And I really like the ambiance. It’s a nice pizza place/restaurant vibe. They also have a to go counter to order by the slice, or pies I’m sure.

Visited with some friends. Very good pizza and surprisingly light for a deep dish (in a good way). I could taste all of the ingredients so it definitely felt fresher than a typical pizza place. Really nice staff and cool local art hanging on the walls.

If Chicago pie is anything like this, then count me in! I ordered the pizza half-baked so that I could enjoy the pie at home right out of the oven. When I finally got to indulge in my fully baked masterpiece, I was blown away by the flavors. The crust was perfectly crispy and the cheese was perfectly melted, creating a perfect harmony of textures and flavors. The ambiance of the restaurant is trendy and modern, catering to the college crowds just down the road at UC Berkeley. The place has a youthful vibe that makes it perfect for casual gatherings with friends or family. What really made my experience at Zachary's Chicago Pizza exceptional was the staff. They were super friendly and knowledgeable about the pizza-making process. They took the time to explain each ingredient and helped me make some great choices when building my pie. All in all, Zachary's Chicago Pizza is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for an exceptional pizza experience. The ingredients are fresh, the flavors are out of this world, and the staff is simply amazing. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great time and an even greater pizza.

It is 15-20 min wait for the deep dish Chicago pizza. Highly anticipated with doughy, cheesy and meaty for the Zachary Special. The large pizza can feed 4 adults with leftovers around $40.

The pizza was slightly overrated, but not horrible. There are better choices for Chicago style in the Bay Area. I feel like this one has a good rep because it’s a local joint and has been a part of the community for decades. We had the Zachary’s Special... which wasn’t that special. Oof. The undercrust was soggy, and very difficult to cut. The pizza itself came out lukewarm. Maybe it has been sitting for too long. Tomato sauce was pretty good.

$40 out the door for small and incredibly mediocre deep dish. go to little star instead. the manager informed me they “can’t” substitute one cheap meat for another but was happy to charge me an extra $3 for the meat i wanted (in addition to the cost already baked in for the meat i didn’t). i’ve worked at pizza restaurants specifically in and off for a decade. i laughed out loud. GAH’BAGE

Decent. Great spot to bring a small group and share a good meal. Had the BBQ chicken, carne and pizza blanca (thin). The BBQ chicken was completely overpowered by the cilantro and raw onion. There was also no BBQ flavour. Would not recommend. The carne was fine. The meat flavours were great and shone through. This is a safe pick. The pizza blanca was the best of our pizzas. You definitely want to squirt some of that lemon onto the pizza though, otherwise it'd be incredibly heavy. Great herbaceous, creamy and savory flavour. Definitely go for this if you're looking for a non-stuffed choice. Atmosphere is nice, the place is a bit cramped though. Pizzas can take a while to come out (makes sense since they have to bake it), so be prepared for a little wait!

It seems as though the prices go up every few months at our local pizza place. Still ther quality and ease attracts me. Very basic service. Take out for us.

Spent $250 on a bunch of half-baked spinach pizzas to take down with me to Southern California, only to find out that everyone of them were BURNT underneath - very dark over-cooked crust, black in many areas. I grew up loving Zachary’s from the Albany-Berkeley location, and had loved Zachary’s for over 30 years. I had told so many friends about Zachary’s over the years, so was appalled when I found out that all the pizzas I bought were semi-inedible. What was more odd is the pizza we ate fresh at the Oakland location was great, but all the half-baked I took with me for the road, were all overcooked. I believe this is a training issue just with this location, and is no reflection on the other locations.

Where's the beef?? Or, actually, the "toppings "?? I paid $26+ for a small deep dish spinach and mushroom pizza, but instead got nothing but bread and tomato. I remember when Zachary's pizza was the bomb! Now it just sucks a**!!! The thinnest layer of "toppings ". Will NEVER get another pizza here. True fan: completely lost!

Went for lunch slice and was worst pizza slice I’ve had. Over priced at $7. The special with butternut squash and goat cheese, everything was huge chunks and not intentionally composed, very hard to eat overall. The slice was served cold. There was no price posted. The crust was overcooked and broke apart like a cookie almost, was not thin crust as advertised. Very hard to eat, I’ve never eaten a slice of pizza with so much challenge before.
