Opinions de Zocalo Coffeehouse Oakland
What a lovely spot. The atmosphere here is absolutely wonderful: beautiful lighting, warm, inviting, and a perfect place to settle in for a while. I spent a couple of hours working and it was such a comfortable, inspiring space. The people are incredibly friendly, and the woman working today was especially kind and helpful, which made the experience even better. The food and drinks were outstanding. The French toast casserole was hands down the best I’ve ever had—truly delicious—and the crème brûlée latte was amazing. Highly recommend if you’re looking for great food, excellent coffee, and a welcoming place to relax or get some work done.
Spectacular coffee and breakfast spot. So good we ate here all 3 days we were in town. I wish we had something similar in Washington D.C. / Northern VA. The quiche had the most amazing texture - I tried two different ones. The side salad was vibrant and fresh and perfectly dressed. The breakfast sandwich was also good - I ordered it on a croissant and it was the biggest tastiest croissant. The coffees were great and so was the service. Can say enough good things!
I went to this coffee shop to meet up with a friend and do some creative brainstorming. During my visit there, the staff was friendly and provided great service. They made an excellent latte, I enjoyed sipping on it while looking at some of the handmade paintings they have on the wall. Overall, the atmosphere was very quaint considering the location just outside of downtown and near the water. I have recommended people to this coffee shop.
My family and I came on opening night for their happy hour service! All new menu and a full cocktail menu. All the staff is so sweet and super friendly! For drinks, we got Florence and the bird of paradise. Both were so good, but if you must choose, try the Birds of Paradise! For food, we tried a bit of everything! Starting we got the roasted Brussels sprouts (my personal favorite! The best Brussels sprouts I've had!), Fries ( definitely get the cajun seasonings added), mussels for 2 (was enough for 3), Tartine of Oxtail (not enough! I could have ate the whole pot!), the sliders are also a must try! ( they come in sets of two So definitely the pork belly and the fried chicken)! For dessert, we also got one of everything! They serve chocolate pot de crème, crème brulee, and Affogato, which are all delicious! But hands down, the crème brûlée was our favorite.
I’m so glad they opened a spot in Oakland. I’ve gone to their original location in San Leandro a few times and always loved the vibe. The food and drinks were delicious. The have plenty of seats and their across the street from the water. I’m so glad they’re here.
This place has become a part of the fabric of my mornings! If I’m not stopping by for a delicious cup of crème brûlée latte, then you can find me indulging in brunch on one of my days off. Yes the wait can be a bit long at times when they get busy, but everything is worth the wait and I always leave with a smile after dealing with the friendly staff. This place is the vibe in the neighborhood we so needed!
Best shrimp & grits I’ve ever had + the staff were so kind. Great brunch spot. Note: The entre would be larger, I wasn’t too hungry so I just got shrimp & grits sides as sides.
The food was incredible, and the space is gorgeous and has a variety of seating types/areas. One star off atmosphere because the music was a little loud for our tastes.
Ordered the fried chicken sando and didn't know what to expect, it turned out delicious, and more than enough for one person! There's great high ceilings, natural light and it's kitted out with nice furniture. We came on a Sunday and it was fairly quiet, so easy to get served.
This space is big and bright with lots of seating and parking. The food is delicious. It’s a great place to work, because there is plenty of table space.
Barista Maya suggested I add a little twist to my matcha tea. I usually don’t like changes to my usual beverage but WOW was I glad I took her advice. I’ll be taking more suggestions from her from now on. Her matcha drink should be a menu item! The food tastes really good too. Big meals for a hungry stomach.
Love this place! So glad they’re in Brooklyn Basin now!
I got a 16 oz. White chocolate mocha, awsome.
Beautiful little sunny cafe with great staff and nice location. Oh, did I mention the delicious FOOD ?? We came for the new Happy Hour and it was fantastic. The mussels were the best I have ever had in my life and I order mussels all the time. Other members of our party had the roasted Brussels Sprouts (delish) and spectacular salads. OOOOh la la. The beverages (coffee-type and alcohol-type) were great. Leave room for the fabulous desserts. Hats off to the chef.
Best breakfast I had all year!! I came in just hoping for a decent cup of coffee and was blown away of what they got going on! Staffed helped me with the choice and this breakfast was huge! The price to portion was a match. I typically don't do potatoes but the flavor is here and i am glad i listened! Same with the breakfast sandwich with the Chipotle sauce and bite from thin sliced red onion and sprouts! These folks can cook and know what tastes good! The parking is a little rough, but you can always park down the way and walk along the water. The art and music represent the best things about the Bay Area!
What i love most is the amount of seating. Ok, love their coffee, their pastries, and food! Service is always friendly and fast!
Loved the vibes of this place! The tomato soup was delicious and cozy. My bf got the Borgia coffee (hot) and I got an iced creme brulee lattee. Both coffees were okay. We like strong, bold coffee so we had to order extra shots of espresso after we tried them. If you like smooth coffee, they would be great for you. Overall a great coffee shop ❤️
We absolutely love Zocalo! Every visit is a delight, with amazing food and drinks that never disappoint. The atmosphere is always positive and welcoming, and we feel completely safe and comfortable there. It’s truly a fantastic spot for families and the community. Highly recommend and definitely deserving of five stars!
I really enjoy Zocalo’s Coffee Shop—I’ve been going for the past couple of years, starting with the location in San Leandro. I love their drinks, food, and the overall ambiance. The service is always top tier. I’m so happy they’ve now opened locations in Hayward and at Brooklyn Basin.
Stopped in to meet up with the queer teacher union committee. Beautiful cafe. Art lined walls. Beacon of hope flying in the window. Delicious baked goods and coffees. Highly recommend this place.
Service was warm and welcoming! He complimented my dress which means the staff have good taste! The shop in general Is so cute! Love the artwork, love the area for children, seems thoughtful. Love the overall inclusive vibe. The talk about the ham and cheese croissant- absolutely delightful- the ham was THICK which sets it apart from so many others- we like it thick! My mocha was absolutely delicious!
I found this restaurant by searching online for places that serve avocado toast. I wanted to get some breakfast for my daughter and was very happy with this restaurant. It was early in the morning before 8:00 a.m. and it was quiet and clean. It is organized and comfortable for customers and even has a small child's area for toddlers
Pondered on Google Maps to find this gem so close to where I live. I love the whole atmosphere, very calm and spacious with no loud music distracting people's concentration and work. Water and to-go boxes are all self-serve with lots of tables available to sit at (at least during this time of the day; 2 pm). Got outlet plugs lined against the wall it would be nice to have some available in the middle seating area so people won't have to crowd or "fight" to get a seat along the wall area. Wifi is free but will require an access code or password to use it while you sip your cup of coffee. Parking is street parking. It's a meter-paid method but if you do not mind walking, there is free parking a few blocks down or a street away. The food was good! I wish I was hungry enough to try their lunch menu because that sold me to come here, but their granola bowl has basic ingredient toppings that have a base of yogurt. I would certainly come back to study again or just to come and chill.
Friendly service staff. Helpful, friendly, polite and with recommendations for when you are unsure. The Mexican Mocha had a nice, small kick to it... Some too mild, some too spicey, thus one just right. The chocolate chocolate cookie was fresh, soft and delicious. Lots of large chunks of white and dark chocolate. The space is large, with plenty of seating. We will be back.
Zocalo CoffeeHouse is a delightful meet-up spot that I've frequented twice now, and it hasn’t disappointed me yet. Finding parking has been a breeze both times, allowing me to dive into the cozy atmosphere without stress. The coffee selection varies and I'm still exploring the menu. The ambiance is beautiful, with plenty of seating and a charming kids' section in the back. While they were out of milkshakes during my last visit, the vast array of other food and coffee options more than made up for it. I'll certainly be returning for another sip soon.
Excellent Coffeehouse in San Leandro. We visited Zocalo Coffeehouse on a Saturday morning at around 10AM for coffee & brunch. The coffeehouse has an excellent atmosphere - large number of tables, huge windows for natural light, and excellent furnishing. We ordered a Veggie Breakfast Sando, Avocado Toast, Borgia and White Chocolate Mocha at the counter before we found a table and sat down. Since the place was busy, our order took a while, but that was to be expected. We enjoyed our food and beverages - the coffee was excellent (we actually bought a bag of coffee on our way out), and the sandwich and avocado toast were well seasoned with fresh ingredients and bakery products.
The chilaquiles chips were all soggy from the scrambled eggs being on top and the sauce. They forgot the avocados as well. The decor was nice however the speakers were pretty sucky and the whole places echoes with no sound absorption. I wish it was better.
I live in the area and come here multiple times a month. It’s very reliable and their drinks are yummy. My only gripe is with the variety of food offerings. They used to have a more extensive menu but a few months ago they whittled it down to a handful of entrees, most of which are prepared in advance like quiche or their French Toast Casserole. Don’t get me wrong, they are yummy but it gets boring after a couple of visits. I wish they would have more of a rotating menu and offer more freshly made food like sandwiches or eggs. Staff is great! Prices are expensive so expect to spend 20-30 for a meal here.
Love this neighborhood coffee shop but the office workers are taking over the entire seating area. Walked in today with a friend and no seats available. I easily counted over a dozen computer workers occupying tables, including the ones for seating of 4 people.
Love this cafe! Their brown sugar latte is SO good. I also really appreciate that they have a children’s area. It makes it easy for my little ones to play while I connect with friends, spend time with my love, or get some work done. My only concern is the cleanliness. The children’s area is consistently dusty/dirty, and there are often flies around. I’m constantly taking my children to wash their hands or applying sanitizer, and I feel like I need to bathe them as soon as we get home. The bathroom could also use a bit of TLC. There’s visible dirt and grime around the base of the toilet, which feels a little icky. I do appreciate that the food prep area is visible and looks much cleaner, otherwise I’d hesitate to eat or drink here. I really hope the overall cleanliness improves, because this cafe is one of my faves in the Bay
interesting coffee place. a bit on the sweeter side for mocha and cremebrulle coffee. a little expensive for my wallet :D average drink is 5$ (espresso and carbonated water on the side) to around 7$ or 5$.. idk. Coffee wise, its weak, lack of flavor. lack character, taste like water. My sister would love this kind of coffee. has a chocolate with minimal acidic profile.. pastries available.. sandwiches are around 16$ Food was on pricier side but it has a lot of deli meat atmosphere was lively. too hot during summer, and alright in the winter. Internet issue? um... its good to be there to do work.. undisturbed Creme brulle - in early 2025 generous amount for small cup at $$6.75 but the cup was bigger than usual small size coffee cup in regular coffee shop. a bit sweet for me.. It reminds me of a corn based korean coffee on the first couple of sips. but after that the taste becomes more like brown sugar boba flavor.. I'd probably ask them to reduce the amount of milk by 25 percent in the future. Today's Microfoam was good! but taste wise ... can be improved. The place has character! very cute coffee place. Bathrooms-clean and doesnt smell! very impressive!! yeah
Almond croissant is great, but the matcha was terrible 😔 anyone who knows matcha lattes knows you can absolutely NOT make it with boiling hot water. It makes it excessively bitter. It's made the soy milk in it super runny as well.
I really want to like this place but... The atmosphere and location are great - super appreciate the outdoor tables and there is almost always space to sit down. However, there is absolutely NO Gluten Free option on the menu (really? In the bay area? in 2025? come on...) and the espresso drinks often taste burned... and for a $6 coffee + tips, it should be perfect. Also, it's nice they allow dogs inside but sometimes you find the missbehaved dogs that bark indoors and they are a true pain - and the staff says nothing. It doesn't help the vibe to have a barking dog sitting next to you while you are trying to enjoy breakfast.
Zocalo is a good product at the wrong price point. The decor and atmosphere are great, but the experience just doesn’t match the price. Espresso is $5, a pour over $7, and an iced mocha will run you over $10 after tax and tip. A sandwich, coffee, and pastry will run you $35–$40. If the food and drinks are spectacular, go ahead and charge for it. But they aren't. My cappuccino was actually bad. Customers are expected to bus their own tables, something I normally appreciate because it means lower labor costs and therefore lower prices, but not here. If it works for Zocalo, I’m not saying stop, but I see reviews mentioning the vibes without discussing prices so I wanted this to serve as a heads up to those who may otherwise feel blindsided.
Honestly I used to love this place but 1) parking system in front is nuts (how much did it cost to keep replacing the system?!) 2) everything keeps getting more expensive 3) internet that used to work wouldn’t work at all. And not being able to reliably access WiFi totally discounts any desire to pay $8 for a cinnamon roll that was accidentally ordered (instead of my snickerdoodle). But here’s where I learned of an orange dark mocha so there ya go. 2 stars.
Employee tipped herself after I left on the little screen. In the process of disputing. First time there, disappointment. To go order. No service. Poor service. Would not recommend. Maybe they can make it right.
