Opinions de Mary's Family Restaurant Oceanside
Totally did not think to take pictures of the food, but I’ll start from here. I had called to place and order and the staff was amazing from there! Very diner looking on this inside. You could tell they have been around for a long time. The food was great, I order a breakfast burrito and was able to do a customization. They make a jumbo burrito! 🌯
Great, family run restaurant with great breakfast and lunch options. All of the portions are large, so arrive hungry. A single cinnamon roll will feed a family of four.
As a person born and raised in oceanside I've always drove past this place going to the beach. I finally decided to try it out and it is by far one of the best breakfast spots I have been to in awhile. From the customer service to the food (great portion sizes) & prices I have no complaints. Most definitely suggest giving it a try 🙂.
Food was excellent, server was attentive. The machacca had great flavor, perfect with flour tortillas. Prices were a little higher than expected but the food made up for it.
This cute, little vintage place is incredible!! We visited our son in Oceanside and he took us there for breakfast and the food was unbelievable! The french toast - incredible, the Omelet to die for! The service was wonderful, super sweet, welcoming, kind. I saw someone had ordered the Cinnamon Roll and I was so upset that we went there the last day we were in Oceanside cause I wanted to take one of these large Cinnamon Rolls home with me but couldn't. Can not wait for another trip to Oceanside and definitely many trips back to Mary's for breakfast, Cinnamon Roll and will try their lunch next time too. Thank You for giving us another spot in O-side to love! Try their homemade salsa too! DELISH!!!
The first day I got a steak and eggs. Noticed there was a Keto plate and had that the 2nd day. Food was good. There was a sign to thank a veteran but they didn’t give veteran discount. It still didn’t deter me from coming back. It still had the best prices in town despite no discount. The food is very good and service was exceptional. Atmosphere was ok. My husband prefers atmosphere, I don’t. I’m perfectly happy with a hole in the wall as long as the food is good. You will not be disappointed going to this little family restaurant. I would definitely go back.
Hands down the best place to get breakfast! The food is absolutely amazing, and very reasonably priced! The service was excellent, the coffee kept pouring, and our whole family thoroughly enjoyed their time. Other places nearby are a bit pretentious, but here they make you feel at home! The cinnamon roll is huge, and melts in your mouth! The French toast also is just the best. I got the huevos rancheros and it was incredible!!! Perfect proportions of eggs, ranchero sauce, and carne asada! It has a decent kick, but was even better with Tapatio! I wish I took a picture of it all, but we were hungry. This is the only breakfast place we will go to in Oceanside! Update: Went again, got the Jose special! Delicious!!!! All of the kids love it here!
Stepping back decades when walking through the doors, you can immediately tell you're in for an adventure. Staff are super cool and personable. Food is amazing, generous portions of quality yumminess! Had the Carne Asada Plate, my Father the Pollo. Tried both corn and flour tortillas, out of rice today which (Rebecca?) immediately advised me of when I ordered, and we worked a substitute in the form of their home fries w cheese on em! The PLATTERS that showed up blew me away!!! The menu selection is massive. The staff super personable, funny, and watching the team all work together was great. The kitchen is back behind a high counter, where you can hear and see everything, really cool! Double front entry doors protect from cold gusts when guests enter and exit. Love the down home original environment. A mix of booths, tables, and a little outside seating. Lastly, hold up your hand, open it, their cinnamon rolls are bigger than that.
We decided to try this place due to the rating and I'm happy to say that it's on point. This restaurant looked like a mom & pop small town feel restaurant. When we arrived it was quiet, but a large family came and it got more exciting. We tried one of their special that they had posted outside-- spinach delight. Yes, it was. It was definitely a delight. The egg had all the right flavors and the extras complimented it even more-- without any cheese. The salsa, together with the country potatoes and the eggs, was a perfect match. We also ordered the short stack pancakes and it was delicious and fluffy. They were the size of the meal plate, so it was pretty big. Other restaurants around the area charge around the same amount, but in my opinion, it isn't worth it. As for parking, you can park on the street in front of the restaurant or the parking lot behind the restaurant. We also like the fact that they're supportive of our troops and veterans. Camp pendleton happens to be really close by. We'll definitely be back to try other dishes or to get the same Spinach delight. 😁
We walked over from our hotel this is blocks away from the pier super easy to find. Breakfast was more than delicious food it was an experience!! We ordered the JUMBO cinnamon bun, Huevos rancheros and an omelette to share. The portions are huge easily could have fed 4 with the cinnamon bun and two off either entree. The service was fantastic! If you’re not sure where to have breakfast you can’t go wrong with Mary’s!!
For many years I’d pass by Mary’s and keep walking by just because it reminded me of 1970s Hill Street. After seeing eager patrons waiting to get a table time after time, I needed to check this place out myself. I took my friend early on a Friday morning. Sure enough the place had that 70s feel to it. I’m glad I came for my first visit. It beats the franchise restaurant chains any day. The service came with a friendly smile and endless refills of coffee. The food was excellent in my opinion. My country-fried chicken steak was plump and served just right with gravy, a generous portion of hash browns, and 3 eggs over easy. I look forward to trying the fried chicken and fries next time. My most recent visit in March 2024. Prices have increased with inflation. Noticed a service fee added to check. In short, breakfast and fair tip was just short of $30 for one person.
The minute I walked into Mary's I knew that I was in a good place because of the wonderful aroma. I had the Fish and Chips and I was completely satisfied. I'm looking forward to visiting Mary's Family Restaurant again soon and trying some of the other dishes that I saw being served. I highly recommend. They are currently only open for breakfast and lunch. It can get busy but the service is fast.
They have huge homemade cinnamon rolls for $6.50. We got the kitchen sink and strawberry French toast. Everything was delicious and when you leave you will need a nap. The only negative I can say is we went around brunch time and the doors were open causing the restaurant to be a little warm but it was well worth the food.
Food was good. We had the breakfast burrito, orange juice and tea. Fresh salsa was good but had no spice. Very laid back atmosphere. The waitress and cook were friendly and kind. Only negative is the place looks like it needs a sprucing up.
The food portions are good here. These are not denny's eggs, I really enjoyed them. My buddy got the Mary's omelet. It looked stuffed with mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers. The bacon came out nice and hot. Everything looked fresh and hot, don't sleep on the biscuits & gravy. This would've been an easy 5 stars, but unfortunately, 2 out of 5 of us never got our English muffins or toast. They got slammed, so I understand it happens. I will say our coffee stayed topped off, which is always great service.
I don't know what happened here. Over the last few weeks this place has really gone down hill. First small stuff, then stuff being found in the food (metal scrapings from steel wool), then food quality just keeps slipping. Now they are went from awesome long standing servers to new people every week it seems. I'm done trying and wasting money on a lost cause, which is heartbreaking since I had a lot of praise for this place.
Menu shown on this listing is NOT accurate for pricing. Expect to pay $2-5 more per item & get nickel & dimed for everything. We got one adult meal and two kids meals with a side of kielbasa and our check was $57. We wanted to sub the kielbasa for the breakfast meat & there was a downright refusal. We would have happily paid an upcharge of a few dollars but was told we had to just get/pay for a side & they could just not give us The other breakfast meat that we were going to be paying for anyway. Kind of ridiculous. The server didn't bother to Tell us that the side was $7 for a small piece. They also didn't bother telling us it was $4 to add strawberry topping & whip cream to my kid's pancake. Also, we got charged a plate fee since I had a few bites of the kielbasa (I hadn't ordered anything because there weren't any gf options). Any time we said anything to the staff they acted like we were a problem. I got the sense that the only way you get good service here is if you are a regular. The food was definitely not worth the price we paid. It was a terrible way to start my birthday & I honestly wish we had just left when we got the first inkling of how bad the service was going to be.
I had breakfast at that restaurant the other day, and honestly, it was the worst experience I’ve ever had. I was really hungry that day, but the meal was so bad that I could barely eat any of it. I only managed to eat about a quarter of what was served, and I was still hungry afterward. First off, when I arrived, nobody even acknowledged me, even though I tried to get their attention multiple times. Once I finally placed my order, the meal arrived, and the bacon I got was terribly overcooked—just bland and unpleasant. Later, someone did come over to ask how everything was, and I mentioned the bacon was overdone. The chef even apologized and removed it from the bill, but that didn’t really change my overall impression. It still felt like the worst restaurant experience I’ve had.
