What a joy! Wonderful customer service from the time we stepped in, to the time we left. The waiters pampered us! Not only was the service great, but the food is marvelously crafted and absolutely delicious. Plus, the atmosphere was pleasing.......It was my brothers birthday and the other couples eating sang happy birthday with us.Definitely an extraordinary night thanks to IL CARINO. PS The prices very comfortable, the home made gnocchi bolognese sauce have a special place in my heart. 100% recommended. Five stars After a long while, I finally came back to IL Carino. My family and I live out of state. However, after four years, they kept consistent their high quality food and excellent service. Everyone should try IL Carino, you wont be disappointed. Highly recommend
I absolutely loved the decor and fell in love with the atmosphere of thIs place. Candle lit tables with soft music playing in the background really made you feel as if you were really visiting Italy. The food is very fresh and the pasta is freshly made along with an amazing array of wine options to fit any occasion. Everyone was so pleasant and even engage in small talk with friendly smiles which made me feel extremely comfortable. The price is very reasonable especially in regards to the quality of food that you are receiving. I love the chocolate moose cake and their fried ice cream bites!!! I will definitely be returning and raving about this amazing place to everyone I know.
Best Italian food we've had in years. This place is a hidden gem. A cozy little nook with friendly staff and top notch pasta. We had a saffron scallop starter that was super full of flavor. I had clam and white wine linguine, and my wife had vegetable orecchiette, both of which were fantastic. We finished with an excellent tiramisu. Definitely coming back soon!
Delicious food. Great prices. Excellent ambiance.
From the moment I walked into this lovely restaurant, I felt right at home! The atmosphere is perfect for an intimate conversation and seems removed from all the hustle and bustle from the street. The service was impeccable and I will be dreaming about the pasta I had for weeks to come. If you are looking for a wonderful night, make sure you stop by and have the cannolis!

Excellent food, loved decor, o hqd a relaxing dinner with my family. Our waiter was very nice
A New York Gem That Feels Like Home Il Carino has quickly become a cherished tradition for our family. This was our third time dining here while visiting our daughter at Fordham, and each visit has been more memorable than the last. The food is simply outstanding—every dish is crafted with care and bursting with authentic Italian flavor. From the appetizers to the desserts, everything we were served was delicious and beautifully prepared. It's clear that this is a place where food is made with love. But what truly sets Il Carino apart is the incredible service. Giulio, the owner and our waiter each time, is the heart of this restaurant. His warmth, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality make every meal feel special. You’re not just eating at a restaurant—you’re being welcomed into a family. Il Carino will forever be our favorite place to eat in this great city. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience in NYC.
IL Carino was love at the first sight for me I can't get enough very elegant restaurant with great wine list and other cocktails absolutely delicious food from salads ,pasta, fish or meet dishes including desserts! Julio and Andreas are really amazing and they will make you feel like you are home I'm highly recomendig this beautiful place for enjoyable dining with love ❤️🥂
Just a fabulous experience! The food was outstanding and the service exceptional. Giulio was great, accommodating, and very personable. The home made pasta (fettuccini & ravioli) was delicious and perfectly cooked. They have a great wine list including cognac! The atmosphere is so authentic highlighted by an elegant décor. Highly recommended.
Best fresh tuna steak ever. Capers, garlic, onion and added the most wonderful memorable taste. Our waiter was an expert! We had a nice table outside. Was a bit pricey for me with the wine but money well spent.
Found this place by accident when I was passing by and decided to have dinner instead. The place had a really old classic italian vibe which felt cozy and rustic. The staff were really nice and professional. The food was nice but may be a bit pricy but other than that a great night. I would highly recommend if you wish to have an elegant and nice dinner
I was looking for a good restaurant on the upper east side and instead found a great neighborhood restaurant. This 12-seat Italian restaurant provided a relaxing atmosphere with wonderful service and food. I started by asking for bruschetta which was not on the menu but was not an issue for the kitchen. It was really good especially with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar placed on the table. My next choice was one of the specials, lobster ravioli with clams and mussels. It was all good with the lobster ravioli standing out. I finished the meal with the ricotta cheesecake and it was so light and satisfying. I must point out that the house Chianti Classico was a perfect accompaniment to the meal. I plan to return to enjoy the service provided Junior, the atmosphere and the food provided by the Chef/Owner.
Quaint authentic Italian place nestled in the UES. Delicious specials, wine by the glass is just a mental list. We had the sole special with wine & mushroom sauce, a rolled pork chop special, the gnocchi, and the fried zucchini. Everything was perfectly seasoned. The waitstaff is incredibly attentive and congenial. We will be back!
We recently had the pleasure of dining at this charming Italian restaurant and was absolutely delighted from start to finish. The warm atmosphere made us feel like a home away from home with the friendly staff treated us like family. Their daily specials stole the show and left a lasting impression. We had the red pesto with homemade raviolis' with an assortment of the seafood. It was perfectly done, with plump shrimp and mussels that tasted incredibly fresh. The portions were just right, leaving room for a delicious tiramisu and lemon tart.
Headline: maybe the best Italian food in NYC, and I feel like that’s saying a lot! Quiet and lovely ambiance, great friendly service Details: My friend and I wanted to grab dinner on the UES, and this place seemed like it would be nice. When I arrived around 7, it was dead empty and silent, and we persevered anyways. Thank goodness we did. There were some people who trickled in and out, but it was generally mostly empty on the Monday evening. And there isn’t any music playing so I could speak at a normal volume AND not have to shout — finally a restaurant that understands that I want to have a conversation. We had a lovely Italian man tell us the specials and interact with us through the evening and it was lovely. We got some spritzes, calamari, pasta, ricotta cheesecake, and it was all spectacular. The place is pricey for sure, but if you’re ready, it’s amazing. I want to come back — HIGHLY recommend.
What a cozy spot on the UES! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Exactly what you want for an Italian place. The service was excellent. I requested if they could use their marsala preparation with chicken and they were so excited to try something a little different. Such a lovely experience. The fried zucchini was great as well. It was a nice, intimate spot to celebrate my friend's birthday.
An unexpected diamond amongst the surrounding pubs and bars! We walked by it and assumed that it would be only ok food, given that the exterior looked a little uninviting/unimpressive. Don't be fooled by the book cover! Cos this place holds true to its roots and I was brought back to Italy! Real authentic wholesome Italian food, from appetizer to desserts! One of the best Italian restaurants I've been to in the last 6 years! Great service and great atmosphere :) perfect date night!
Haven't been here since the Pandemic hit, but we are soo glad we stopped by! Giulio was amazing. Treated us like family from the min we walked in. The food was exceptional. Honestly, everything we ordered was out of this world! They made my truffle fettuccine in front of me AND my banana dessert! Just an amazing night! Thank you for the wonderful experience! Even with restrictions for Covid easing, we felt very safe. Staff wore masks, barriers in place, and hand sanitizer available!
Family-owned and operated Il Carino serves, by far, the best and most genuine Italian food I've had in all of New York City. Go for the delicious dishes, return for the unforgettable service.
This place is quaint but elegant. Service is impeccable - very observant but also warm and generous. Nice wine list. A dinner for two at Il Carino won't break the bank even though it tastes like it should. We enjoyed the Insalata Caprese, Mussels Marinara, and their iconic Penne Genovese.

Genuinely one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in NYC! The inside is very cozy and dimly lit which makes the space feel very intimate, I went with my partner and we felt like we were in our own world. The service was amazing, our server was incredibly knowledgeable when it came to recommending wine and food, and I love that the meal was paced very well and we didn’t feel rushed. And the FOOD!! Every single thing we had was amazing. If you are lucky enough to go when they have the seafood ravioli special GET IT, the mussels in this dish were the best I’ve ever had. The homemade mozzarella and tiramisu were also amazing. Will definitely be returning!!
We went to this restaurant on a whim and I was not disappointed! The waitstaff were so friendly and funny and attentive. The food was absolutely amazing. Got the chicken franchise and the chicken was thin and cooked perfectly in the best lemon wine sauce. And the flourless chocolate cake warmed with ice cream was the best end to the meal. And the wine was just lovely. Will totally go again.
Wonderful Italian spot on the UES. Great ambiance. Perfect for a date night or a night out with family. I had the filet of sole special and my husband requested a veal chop valdostana. Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. The wine list is extensive and perfect for the menu. Service was warm and attentive. We have found our new spot in the neighborhood and would highly recommend.
My favorite Italian place in the city. The specials are always super wonderful, and it has the best atmosphere. You can tell everyone there is really passionate and loves sharing their amazing food with you. Can’t recommend enough!
We had SUCH a good experience here. Food was some of the best we’d ever had. I got the salmon and it was really good, my mom got the fettuccine and was seriously the best fettuccine we’d ever had. My best friend got the gnocchi and it was so indescribably good I’m still thinking about it. The service was incredible as well. Awesome environment, immaculate vibes, the energy was all great. We weren’t gonna order any dessert, and then they heard us talking about the tiramisu, so they just brought it out on the house. 12/10 experience will definitely be going back and showing people this place.

Pretty good food. Have had both their chicken francese and chicken parm. Probably best saved for dining in. Their takeout portions seemed particularly stingy this last order for $30 entrees.
Came for the chicken Parm. Was a little bit disappointed when I didn’t see it on the menu. I asked and they said that they could make it for me. I got excited. I started the meal off with some minestrone soup. It was very good, although the portion size was pretty small. I liked the fine cut of the vegetables. Flavorful and rich broth. Then came the chicken Parmesan! It was served on a bed of spaghetti. I had a requested the spicy marinara sauce, that’s just the way I like it. I’m glad I requested this change this sauce because it was very good. The pasta was nice as well. However, I didn’t love the chicken Parm. The breading was soggy. That was a disappointment for me. Also, they brought over crushed red pepper but didn’t offer Parmesan cheese for the entree (although Parmesan cheese was offered for the soup, which I turned down). The vibe inside was nice. Dimly lit with a nostalgic feel. The checks were handwritten, which is a nice touch. The water was constantly refilled. They had availability on a busy night, probably 3/4 full. Extensive wine list, triple the food list. I asked for a glass of rose which cost me $22, which felt expensive, especially for the pour that I was given.
Cute and delicious Italian restaurant. The fresh pasta is excellent. It's small but well decorated and good service. I would say they are more of a $$$ not $$ though. The special of the day with the pork chop was delicious but pricey. The pasta with mushrooms and marsala wine was excellent. The dessert was a banana flambé which was ok but pricey. If you live in the area is a most try, just ask for the special prices so you are not surprised like we were. Absolutely good flavors and great for a dinner date.
Good food. Tried the Carbonara and the Gnocchi con crema rosa al tartufo. The carbonara was good though not memorable; the choice of meat is bacon that was rather bland compared to guanciale or pancetta. The gnocchi was very good with a nice crema rosa. Tiramisu was very good, though the size is quite single-serving rather than a dessert meant to be shared— likely for the best after a filling pasta meal.
Lovely cozy space on the UES with delicious homemade pastas. The burrata appetizer (which often has a special twist) is always a delicious choice. According to one local child with a well developed palate who dines here regularly they have the “best marinara in the City.” Food is fresh, beautifully presented and the decor is charming. Sweet choice for dining.

Ordered takeout delivery to the hospital where I'm caring for my dad and my order was 2 hours early with not enough utensils. Food is mediocre at best and the serving size of the salad, which cost over $12, was a joke - the container was basically empty. I was very excited to try this place because Italian is my go to and it's NY. This place however was not my favorite and a poor experience. Tipping doesn't matter because we gave a nice tip 25% as we were grateful to stay with my dad. Lesson learned.
Overall, the main entries we ordered were a varying degree of disappointment. I ordered the bolognese with pappardelle and my friend ordered the lobster/muscle special. The bolognese was under salted and missing the classic notes of parmigiana. The lobster special was almost completely inedible, as it tasted like aquarium water and to top it all off, it was priced at 2x the other pasta dish costs. The zucchini fritters were delicious, and I loved the tomato dipping sauce it was served with. The service was great (although we had to beg for a wine list as the waiter was insistent on making a recommendation based on what we were looking for).

The restaurant is cute and quiet, the only pro. We ordered special pork chop, gnocchi, and seafood pasta. All lacked flavor. The worst is the seafood pasta. The linguine was over cooked. The seafood was not fresh, the wine wasn’t even cook off, smelled funky. The worst, huge chunks of garlic, raw in the pasta. I had never been so disappointed at restaurant specials.
I found the decor to be sophisticated and pleasing. I was very disappointed with my brief experience with the food. I intended to have a soup and main course, but I was so disappointed with what I started off with, I decided to have the soup only. I asked for olive oil for the bread that the waiter put on the table. I found the olive oil to have a very displeasing taste. The butter had no taste. The small portion of minestrone soup ($12.95), served in a bowl, was weak in flavor, especially related to the vegetables in it. Its flavor was dominantly a very mild tomato flavor. After all that, I decided to skip the main course there, and have it somewhere else.

Very disappointed with our dinner last night. Their high rating is misleading!! Prices of entrees were 30% higher than listed online. Paid $37 for linguini with clams that had overcooked store bought pasta, a thick grey sauce, huge garlic chunks. Never encountered anything like this. Caesar salad was sad and tasted like it was from a cafeteria. Fried zucchini was ok, lots of batter. Fettuccine bolognese used fresh pasta but was average. $200 incl tax and tip for 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 glasses of wine. Wish we had gone to Olive Garden instead
Downgrading my review based on recent experiences. The main server is a pushy aggressive guy and constantly tries to upsell you by getting you to order expensive dishes and desserts. A glass of wine is exorbitantly priced even for Manhattan standards. They also cancel your opentable booking after you have dined there in order to not pay the opentable fee. Unethical and sleazy operation. Never again!
Went on vValentines Day… they doubled the prices of everything .. wine was almost tripled.. Caesar salad was 5 piecee of lettuce for 18.95… 10.00 surcharge for paying with a card… we used to go all the time but never again
I had such a negative experience at Il Carino. I went with my mother and girlfriend for New Years Eve dinner and had really bad quality food. I ordered the sea food pasta special and the clams and salmon were not fresh. Moreover, I asked for the alioli sauce option which had a watery taste. I had two bites of it and that was it. My mother and girlfriend had very negative choice as well. My girlfriend ordered a pasta carbonara that had a burnt taste and same thing, was not able to finish it. My mother ordered a salad that was in the specials menu and ate it but said that it was super plain as well. The bread was dry and hard. Had to put a lot of butter to be able to eat it. The worst part about the whole experience was the poor attitude of the waiter who said that we were wrong when we communicated to them that the food had a very bad quality. My mother is from Italy and has been eating highest quality pasta all her life so I have. Never coming back to this restaurant again.
garbage rotten food. 1 strand of spaghetti and rotten broccoli. worst chicken francese and worst pasta. definitely the worst broccoli…. it was rotten to the core. pure garbage. they should be ashamed. just close your restaurant. you don’t deserve to cook and serve food.
A bad situation turned worse. I had a GrubHub order through them because the restaurant and food looked good. My GrubHub driver brings me my food spilled, the sauce all over the bag and submerging the metal platter that holds the food. Quite disappointed, I contacted GrubHub support for help. I am very unfamiliar with how GrubHub arbitrates situations like these, as I’ve never really had an issue with any order before, but wow, was there a rude awakening awaiting for me. Soon after an adjustment was placed, I get a call from an unknown number. There was an older man talking on the end and asked me why I adjusted the order. I said my food came spilled and that either the restaurant or the driver spilled my food, and that I put my bet that it was the driver that spilled it. The guy reassures me that they packed everything well and that now, they won’t get paid for the food. I had no idea that’s how it worked, assuming that GrubHub would punish the driver and pay off the restaurant. Before I could even think of anything because of shock, he then proceeds to ask me what I am going to do with the food? I said I don’t know, mainly because my bag is literally seeping in sauce. He then proceeds to say “You’re gonna eat it huh?”, and then proceeds to cuss me out multiple times, as if I was enjoying this situation any more, and slams the phone. Maybe other people have freeloaded from them before, but I didn’t even get an opportunity to say sorry or have any remorse for them because of their first assumption of me being that I am taking advantage of them, when really, I don’t even know what’s going on besides my food being messed up. I understand that situations like these are unfortunate, and I was hoping to just enjoy a normal dinner, but having been through this, I pray that customer service is much nicer in person than over the phone. I’m not saying to not try this restaurant, but I personally am very discouraged from going back. And if you do go, please do dine-in or pick up, so that way they don’t have anything to blame you on, and maybe your experience will be less hostile. PS: I followed up with GrubHub to ensure that the restaurant will still get paid, despite everything that happened. The GrubHub representative told me that they (GrubHub) will still be paying them, as it was the courier’s fault. Photos provided below.
