We are back here in 2024, and still find this a great place for a meal. We were here in the afternoon, bring your appetite. The bread and cheese were great and were brought as we were seated. The Haystack- very light and crispy onion rings were great. The meal was excellent. If you’re hungry this place is for you!

WOW!!! It’s been years since we have been here and I don’t know why. We had top notch service from Martel (the best we’ve had in Odessa in a while). Everything we had was delicious. We would highly recommend! We had bread with butter and the famous block of cheese. I enjoyed the steak bit salad which was huge! I was only able to eat half. My husband had the 12oz ribeye with a loaded baked potato. He also enjoyed the old fashioned with Woodford bourbon. All so worth it! If we were still hungry we would have gotten a dessert, but we were stuffed. Martel knew we enjoyed it and said I’ll see y’all tomorrow.

Update: As usual, my meal was served to perfection! Everyone in my party was undoubtedly pleased with their meals. We brought home a chocolate and a millionaires pie; which were equally delectable! If I lived in the same town, I would probably eat here everyday! The atmosphere is great and the service is amazing!

7/2/21: I ate at 12 PM and there was no wait and we were seated right away. The waitress was very friendly and helpful at all times and was great. A bowl of gumbo was given as a complimentary appetizer, as well as the delicious soft bread. The block of cheese was amazing and compliments the bread well. I ordered the 12 once ribeye steak and it was cooked to perfection and delicious, and the mashed potatoes with brown gravy was also perfect. I had the bread pudding for dessert and wow it was so good and excellent for dessert. Overall the meal was amazing with great staff and great atmosphere.

Man I hate to give this 4 stars. Gosh I hate to do it. Service was A+++++++++++++ !!!!! Location and environment with decor incredible!!!! Minus a star because the prime rib for wife and I wasn’t so tender. Prime rib guys…. HAS to be the most tender meat you ever eat. It was good. Sides were good…. But this place has built up a legendary reputation. Outback prime rib is better. I’ll try again and edit score as needed. Edit/update- heading there again next week

Steak was great and enjoyed watching food being grilled in the middle of the restaurant. Restaurant was not busy but had a wait before seated. Service was good. Location & parking not the best. Atmosphere was dark and felt like we’d walked into a 1970s Western Sizzlin restaurant. All-in-all, We’d go back because the steak was perfectly grilled.

Review - Legendary Barn Door Odessa From what I hear from family, this place has been around for a very long time. It used to make good quality food. Under new management and an overhauled menu this place seems to have missed a few steps over the years. We went on a Tuesday at lunch. I had the Crusted Pork Ribeye with Loaded Mashed Potatoes. It had a little spiciness to it and was cooked moist and all the way through. I had sweet tea with limes and it was as good as Bill Miller's sweet tea, which is VERY GOOD. My girl had the Sirloin steak with Mashed Potatoes and the Mac & Cheese. Steak was good but she didn't like the Mac n Cheese and I thought it tasted out of a box. Not terrible but could be improved on. The day we went the waitstaff gave us OLD menus but didn't tell us but told us that the buffet selections were slim so we asked for the manager. She was pleasant and courteous but she did bring out a handwritten list of the food choices that WERE available. Lack of selection for the lunch buffet did not give us a good vibe; but the couple we were with enjoyed it. I was relieved that most of the food items here very good. Although, sitting under the awning, the AC did not hit us at all and we were sweating. Terrible. This is the only restaurant I've been to where the restrooms were colder than the dining area. Maybe it was the table we were given. Most of the food we ate at this place, was very tasty. This place has some of the best eats here in Odessa. Decor is West Texas, for sure. Staff were very nice and pleasant. The manager Gina (sp?) was sweet and cordial. No Veterans discount. No discounts on any of the dishes offered, but that's OK. I am not from Odessa, but the couple we were with are, so, we won't be revisiting this place any time soon. But, IF we do, I will try a steak next time.

Appetizer: Calamari ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Super thick and meaty calamari with great flavor. It battered and fried along with jalapeños, peppers, and onions served with a nice sauce. Ribeye steak: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cooked to perfection, topped with coarse salt and pepper. Chicken fried steak: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was good for cfs… but I’d recommend getting the steak instead. Loaded baked potato: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Nothing special about it. It was a good size, perfectly tender, and had good toppings. Macaroni and cheese: DO NOT RECOMMEND! Tasted like boxed Velveeta mac&cheese that had been sitting out for a few hours. Didn’t eat more than a bite. Just order something else. Our sever was very short with us, didn’t check on us, refill our drinks quickly, or bring out our food. She acted very busy for no reason. All the other servers around seemed to be doing a great job though.

The food is just okay. The joint is somewhat historic but feels old and not in a cozy way. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger (I was not asked what temperature I wanted the patty... not a good sign!). The meat was overcooked and dry, but the bacon and veg were nice. The fries were cooked well and seasoned correctly. The cheesecake was large and tasty, but the strawberry topping was from a can. If it wasn't for my buddy wanting to eat here, I would have gone elsewhere.

Went on a Monday and was very excited to finally try the steak. Ordered Medium Well and arrived Medium Rare. I sent it back once and it returned burned on the outside and rare on the inside. The cooks have to be completely lost in the back . The vegetables still had dirt on them. Never again

They are slow to seat people, and there was tons of open tables and 4 couples still waiting to be seated. Music was loud, waitress was nice though. Food was not good. I was supposed to have pork, but it tasted like chicken and it was dry, don't know what they did to the mashed potatoes was horrible. Also people who got there after us got served before us and that was a larger group. Worst steak house I have ever been to.

Very disappointed, I had a reservation and when I showed up they were closed. I understand that there was a storm that caused them to close. However I called the day of and they told me the were open. I also received a reminder of my reservation as we were driving to the restaurant. Maybe you should have a policy that if you don't open for any reason you should let people know; those that have a reservation.

Waited 1 hour for my food only to have my steak come out cold and over cooked. No apologies or offer to discount any of the food. To be fair I sent my food back but my business partner enjoyed his food while I watched him eat. Highly disappointed,considering the last 2 times I came i spent about 300.00 total.
