Wonderful new restaurant! Service, ambiance and food was exceptional. Looking forward to going back.
Danny is by far the best bartender! Always a pleasure!
Great place! Great service! Delicious burger!
Amazing place to see a show!
Was there for a baby shower.
Such a beautiful place !! Great, fast friendly service. I dined outside on their gorgeous back property with the nice Mountain View near the creek side. 10/10 !!! great place to stop in for a few drinks and have a chill time!
Fish and chips is authentic, light and crispy, tender noisy fish! I'll be back to try more yummy food inspired by the owners travels in Europe.
I will absolutely be back and with a few friends! We stayed at the cottages and it was exactly what we needed! Everything we needed was close, phenomenal value! Excited to come back for concerts.
Very nice, would visit again.
A great place for food and drinks! Loved the space and decor. Highly recommend the burger and fish & chips.
Beautiful historical inn. Excellent food and staff who are extremely professional and courteous. You need to stay there.
I AM REPEATING MY REVIEW FROM LAST YEAR WITH A VERY WELL DESERVED UPDATE!!!!! THE TAVERN & RESTAURANT ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED HOWEVER THEY ARE STILL BOOKING ROOMS AND THE PROPERTY IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR YOUR SPECIAL EVENTS. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS FIVE STARS…..NO PICS…..GO SEE FOR YOURSELF!!!
So the food from circle market moved across the street to here. Still delicious. Got my favorite with goat cheese, prosciutto and fig name. So good
Excellent sandwiches, good beer list, and an amazing place to hang out and spend the afternoon. The outdoor space overlooks a river and is must see if you’re in the Catskills.

Wife and I live within five minutes and I wanted some post hike food and also to support the new place in town. Atmosphere is good, interior design is really nice. Cocktails were very enjoyable. We got the smoked cod chowder; will be getting again soon. We enjoyed the potato skins (smaller serving) not sure if we would get again. We split the fish and chips for dinner. Very good. Will likely get again, made the wife happy. Overall we really enjoyed eating here and are likely to eat here or get takeout again soon.
We just spent the weekend at the newly opened Griffin House. From our first interactions reserving a room we were impressed by the follow up and polite interactions with Autumn!. The room was wonderful and the grounds were very impressive from the views of the mountains in the backyard to fire pits. The place was absolutely stunning with a beautiful wood bar area and bartenders that knew their drinks and the area. They were polite and knowledgeable about the area and gave us numerous tips on what to see in the area. After arriving we realized Autumn did so much and was so attentive to all things going on with all guests it was truly amazing. Then let’s talk about the food. I truly believe I had the best hamburger ever!! And the fish and chips were fantastic. I was impressed by the whole staff and environment and can’t wait to return.
I recently visited Upstate NY for the first time and was lucky enough to stay in Palenville at my boyfriend’s childhood home, literally a minute walk from the newly opened Griffin House. I’ve heard so many stories the past couple of years about this place that was a part of my boyfriend’s childhood and was so excited that we were able to dine here. The staff, the owners, the atmosphere, the food, the drinks are so outstanding! I started with the espresso martini, which was absolutely perfect. For food, we ordered the wings, fish & chips, chicken curry, and shepherds pie. The menu was carefully curated and food was a testament to it. Everything was delicious! Even though we were stuffed, I had to have the bread pudding - especially since this one has my favorite accompaniment - WHISKEY SAUCE. This seems so rare to find on a menu anymore. It was so good that I had to come back two nights later and make the bread pudding my last meal before heading home. Griffin House made our trip extra special, such a great gathering spot for locals and friends and I cannot wait to go back, hopefully in the fall. Until then I’ll be trying to recreate that whiskey sauce at home :)
Griffin House Tavern offers a wonderful English dinner. We chose the night's three specials - buffalo cauliflower, local steak, and a veggie pot pie. Everything was delicious and we ended up with some leftovers so we'll have to go back sometime for dessert. Cozy and perfectly appointed tavern room, lovely service, fantastic classic rock playing in the background - we'll be back.
My goodness, I wish there was a Griffin House in every city. Incredible doesn’t begin to describe this place. With a robust bar, delicious menu, pool table, and cozy decor, I wanted to pick this up and move it to Chicago. Home-y place for sure. I got an americano and the oatmeal and they were both tasty and reasonably priced. Staff were also very cheerful and friendly. If I’m ever in the area, definitely paying this place a visit again.
I came here for the Four Tet concert over the past weekend and for it being such a last minute gig- they did an excellent job of organizing and the outdoor space at night was truly magical. I wasn't able to actually have the food - but I want to come back soon to try the menu! :) Thank you for such a great experience and hopefully you will host more concerts there again!
Another great night at the Griffin! Since they have opened their doors, my husband I have had several great meals at the Griffin. The view of the stream and the mountains from the garden, and the inviting interior make every seat in the house, a good one. The staff are friendly and local to the community, so it really adds to the spirit of the place. We particularly love the wings, fish & chips, shepherds pie & the curry.
Title: A Charming Evening at The Griffen House in Palenville! We recently visited The Griffen House in Palenville for a delightful family dinner, and the experience was nothing short of fantastic! Despite not having a reservation, we were warmly accommodated with a cozy 4-seat table. The ambiance of this establishment is truly special, exuding a lovely Scottish inn feel that adds to the overall charm. The fireplace added a perfect touch to the atmosphere, making our evening even more enjoyable. As for the menu, we were impressed by the diverse offerings inspired by the owner's travels through Europe. My dad and I opted for the Shepherd's Pie with green beans, and it was absolutely delicious—flavorful and satisfying. My mum enjoyed a tasty burger, and my daughter loved the chicken tenders from the wee menu. The Griffen House not only offers a delightful dining experience but also manages to capture the essence of European inspiration. From the warm reception to the delectable food, our evening was a memorable one. Highly recommend to anyone seeking a charming atmosphere and delightful cuisine in Palenville!
This is the perfect location for exploring the Catskills. They have a charming quiet location with a great restaurant and bar. They have an outdoor area with fire pits and occasional live music. The staff and manager are extremely friendly and polite. Me and my wife love this hidden gem!!!
Last weekend we had a wonderful dinner at Griffin House! We shared the Fish n Chips and a Caesar salad, both excellent and complimented each other well. Staff was knowledgeable and attentive. They recommended the Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, we were very pleased with its fresh clean finish. We will definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu!
We went for their AirBnB experience and a concert in the backyard; therefore, the restaurant and bar were closed. They were amazingly accommodating, pleasant, and kind. They provided a plethora of complimentary snacks and drinks for us.
Griffin house is great! We came for dinner opening night, the waiting area is spacious with chairs and a pool table although you don’t have to wait for long. You walk into a large room but it’s lighting and wood choice make it feel very cozy (the fireplace tiling is adorable). The cocktails were beautiful to look at and very yummy (recommend their take on the martini!). I had the Captain Walsh’s Curry for dinner which was delicious (I am enjoying my leftovers while typing this). Service was very quick and kind- definitely will be going back, a great addition to the town.
Absolutely beautiful venue inside and out. Intimate tables, I especially loved the stools at the table by the fireplace. Margarita was delicious and lovely selection of beer. Ordered the burger with a side salad, all around perfect dish and the real stand out was the Shepard pie… by far the comfiest coziest meal I’d eaten in a long long time. The portion was perfect and accompanied by the best garlic green beans. It’s wonderful to be able to roam around both inside and out. The picnic tables outside are the perfect place for gathering with a group and inside is cozy! Did I mention they have a pool table?! All around wonderful place and can’t wait for many many more visits with some of the nicest staff I’ve encountered.

great place, good food, tad bit expensive
Did not get to enjoy any food, but the atmosphere was great. Beautiful bar, friendly staff and an inspiring outdoor space with tables fire pit and stage... Check it out
We only had snacks, and they were delicious. My one complaint is that with a yard that big, I'd LOVE for it to have a separate beer garden menu/prices. As it is, it isn't the type of place you can go and drink all day and eat small bites at (both because it's expensive and lack of options). I hope the owners consider adding less fanciful food and snacks, at least to outside dining.

Not bad but weird! My husband and I stayed in the hotel for a weekend getaway. We were on an email chain with the other guests staying that night that told us to let ourselves in through a code. We came into a completely empty building and had to call someone, who told us just to go up to our room and let ourselves in. Everyone's keys were hanging out in their doors and it kind of could've been a free for all. The rooms aren't bad but very sparse - no TV, no fridge. I'm a new mom and luckily it was cold enough overnight to store my breastmilk in the car. We had to turn the heat on ourselves when we got in. The rooms are very close together and you can hear into other guests' rooms. They had free snacks and beer in the fridge, which was a nice touch, but in general it is bare bones and not a $250/night experience. The grounds are really nice, but it would've been a perfect night for a fire and I wish the hotel provided more amenities to hang out outside like blankets. Also because the restaurant and bar were closed we were literally the only people on the grounds and it was nice that it was private but felt kind of spooky. Lastly, there's a fire station across the street and the alarm was blaring for 45 minutes at 1:30am. Obviously not the fault of the hotel but worth noting. In general, it's a nice space that it obviously brand new and still in growing pains. We could've benefitted from more communication/availability of the hosts. This feels way more like an Airbnb than a hotel - honestly it feels more like you and 5 strangers are crashing at an acquaintance's house but they're not home to host you. Not a deal breaker, but you're definitely not getting your money's worth at this place right now. Nice but not welcoming. A good place to lay your head after a day in the Catskills, but not an experience in and of itself.

Went for a festival, not what I expected. The place is okay but overpriced for what it is
One of their sister businesses “circle W” has started running their kitchen out of the griffins House at weekends. Prices have gone up and quality has gone down, $13.50 before taxes for a sandwich is getting a bit silly especially when my emaciated Ruben was very close to being vegetarian! The bar is nice but it’s a bit too expensive with so many other options around.
The service was non existing. Forgot to put our order in.waited 45+ minuets for drinks. 40 more for food. Dining room was freezing. NO body ever checked on us to see if we ever needed any thing!! Horrible place for lunch. Plastic utensils, are not environmentally friendly. Food was COLD. Beer was warm and not able to be enjoyed. Having invited a friend out for lunch, I was embarrassed at the service and quality.
The share plates are too small to be shared and on the expensive side. None of my party enjoyed the food. The garden is nice but at $10 for a pint of blue moon it’s expensive.
Website said opened at 4:00.. we drove up to support the restaurant and at the door we were turned away and told “ we are opened for Circle W”. When we said the website said 4:00, we were told no it is 5;00.
If you're looking to eat a once great grilled pastrami sandwich from the Circle W general store, good luck! You will be directed across the street to the Griffin House, where the Circle W crew allegedly moved into to continue to make great food that was once at the original Circle W. We were told the menu remained the same and the quality was just as good. Not true....... the sandwich had risen in price, there was a couple of slices of pastrami on it, it had a rainbow color, which is normally indicative of cheap cold cuts, and the pickled cole slaw was completely red (beet colored) and extremely sweet. It tasted nothing like the grilled pastrami sandwich from the old Circle W. So, you must order food , your beverage and pay as soon as you walk into the Griffin house. After paying, they allow you to be seated, at which point you wait for your beverage and food to be delivered. My wife and I ordered a dark stout, which was sweeter than a Coca-cola! Horrible! When the food came out, my wife asked for utensils, and the waitress told her she could help herself at a counter which had utensils, and napkins. She did, and we ate was a pretty bad grilled pastrami sandwich! If your thinking that your getting a pastrami sandwich that you were used to getting at the general store, you will be sadly disappointed! This is what happens when you change a very good thing. Won't return ever!!
This is why Americans think British food is terrible! My wife and I ate at the Griffin House shortly after they opened and we were looking forward to having a local pub in the area. Sadly the Griffin House is not that. The prices are high for and the food is average at best. The fish and chips were bland and the mushy peas were not only actually bitter and dry, but inedible, this not how fish and chips is supposed to taste. I ordered the burger which again was average. We each had a cocktail which seemed short of a full measure of liquor. Our bill was almost $80 for two non fancy entrees and two cocktails. My wife and I have both lived in NYC and I’m British, and we live locally. Charging Manhattan prices is all fine but to do that you need to provide quality, $18 for a watered down cocktail is not okay. If you want to charge elevated prices then you need to serve elevated dishes and drinks. All in all I feel you missed a great opportunity to serve the local populace and missed the boat by chasing the wallets of out of town visitors with sub par product.
