Opinions de Ramen Nagi Palo Alto
I can confidently say this is my current favorite ramen spot in the Bay Area! Shoutout to our host David for being super accommodating, patient, and sharing with us the history of Ramen Nagi. There is decent seating, but when I went there was a line before opening and a bigger line at rush hour lunch. I recommend either going early or going off-hours so you don't have to wait too long! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere of the restaurant feels like you're at a ramen shop and it's super clean. What I really like about this place is that you can custom your ramen, from thin or thick noodles to broth thickness, salt and garlic strength and more. You can also do add-ons as well. One thing I want to add is they definitely don't skimp out on the meat, which a lot of shops do. 1. Original King - Tonkotsu: Super flavorful, perfect thickness, and you can tell it's been cooked for a long time. The thick noodles goes so perfectly with it, and I love how the meat is super fatty. 2. Red King - Spicy: My boyfriend got this and he really enjoyed it! It was spicy and had good flavor. 3. Pan-fried Gyoza: this is a MUST! Apparently it's extremely popular and highly recommended (which I can see why). It's super crispy and the ponzu sauce they made is unique, but works so well with the gyoza. 4. Karaage Chicken: the pieces are definitely bigger than usual and it has a good crunch to it! Definitely not dry and very juicy. Overall, this place is dope and I would recommend giving this place a shot!
We tried the Gyu King Ramen and the Original King Ramen. The Gyu King (limited edition) was amazing! The broth had such a rich, deep beef flavor and tasted super comforting. Definitely worth trying while it’s available. The Original King is always solid. I like adding a bit of the spicy sauce which cuts the richness and makes the soup feel lighter and more balanced. Would happily come back again!
I went to Ramen Nagi with two co-workers, and it was my first time trying it. The ramen was absolutely delicious. There was a line, but the wait wasn’t too long. We also ordered the crispy gyoza. It was just okay. We tried to order takeout for two other co-workers, but they only had small containers instead of the large ones, so the food had to be packed into two separate containers. The service itself was great, and the staff were very attentive. I’d definitely go back! This is definitely a place where the food is best enjoyed fresh rather than to-go. By the time we left, the line was wrapped around the building. So go early!
Simple and delicious. Very organized restaurant. Best ramen I have ever had in my life… we went 2 days in a row… And their gyoza is something else.
Long time water first time reviewer I've been coming here since hey first opened. I have attested over the years that this has taken over as my favorite ramen place in the Bay Area and for California. You get to customize your order, which is a staple for any ramen shop. The line gets long, but don't worry it moves fast. I like all the offerings, but I usually get the Original King. I prefer my noodles to be extra firm. I love that they offer Moyashi (Mung bean sprouts in a sweet sesame soy sauce). They used to offer Takana (Pickled Mustard Greens). They removed these offering during the lockdown, but only the Moyashi has returned. Please bring back the Takana too, it was my favorite. Street parking is limited. But there is a parking garage nearby.
This is one of my top 3 ramen places in the Bay Area. What's great: the ramen options are interesting and delicious! I tried the black (squid ink) and loved it. Every element is at the peak of its craft: noodles, broth, ajitama, and pork. The pork belly is especially delicious. But there are a couple of other places (Taishoken, Totoro, and maybe Marufuku) where I could say the same... and they have no lines. The one area where Ramen Nagi whiffs it a little bit, in my opinion, is that (at the PA location at least) the black pepper flavor is too overpowering in the broth. I love spicy food and am usually adding more pepper to everything, so if I think so, others probably would, too. It overshadows the other culinary delights in the bowl.
It's not a hype. It's actually (surprisingly) top notch. I've had many many ramens all over Japan, NYC, but this definitely stands as one of the very best. It's crystal clear how top quality the ingredients, the cooking, and the (very small) menu all are. The noodle was absolutely perfect, the broth was perfectly umami (I had the black), even the karaage was surprisingly good (had a Korean fried chicken vibe with sweet and hot sauces). My only complaint is that the line does get insanely long. This time I just waited but I'm not sure how often I'll be able to dine here. If you can snag a seat go for it. Fully endorsed.
Visited Ramen Nagi and ordered the vegetarian recommended option. While the ramen itself was good, there were very few choices for vegetarians, and customization options were quite limited. It’s a decent experience, but I wish there were more vegetarian-friendly varieties and flexibility.
As usual, Ramen Nagi has a long wait. Sometimes there are lulls in the line, which is when I happened to get in. The line is outside, so be prepared for the weather. When you get close to the front, they give you a sheet to fill out on what you want. I got the squid ink with everything the usual except with lower sodium and a 4 on spice. I should have asked for more spice, 4 was not that spicy! I also like the thick noodles, the thin ones are a little too thin. The meat on the top of the squid ink ramen was scrumptious!! The service, once they get you seated, is super fast. I added the bean sprouts from the table to mine! We also split a chicken kaarage, which was yummy. I had enough to take home a little in a too go box!
Saturday night ramen craving = Ramen Nagi. I was fully prepared for a monster wait, but the line actually moved pretty quickly—maybe 20–30 minutes. Not bad at all, and honestly… totally worth it. 🍜🙌 I went classic with the Original Tonkotsu and added extra firm noodles. Soo good. Rich, creamy broth + perfectly chewy noodles = one of the best bowls of ramen I’ve had in the Bay. Funny enough, I’ve tried Nagi once before at Valley Fair mall, but this location hit way harder. Flavor was next level.
I visited Ramen Nagi for the first time and was impressed by the rich, authentic flavor of their ramen—it truly lived up to the hype. The broth was deep and satisfying, and I’d recommend choosing your spice level carefully, as it can get quite intense! The staff was quick to respond and attentive, though they seemed a bit rushed when clearing tables. Overall, a delicious and lively spot worth trying.
One of the best ramen places I have been to in the Bay Area. Sad that it is so far from me. The Black King was very good. It has a more savory flavor and just a hint of iron taste with the squid ink. It isn’t too strong tho. I recommend ordering that one. The red king was also good for that extra spiciness. Karaage is a must try as well. Chicken is crunchy and flakey and the aioli is zesty and tasty. The wait is pretty long but I’d say it was worth the wait. The staff is very nice and will come out to answer any questions. When we sat, they were constantly checking on us and asking us how our experience was. They seemed to care a lot.
Fast service even with the long line. Great ramen and chicken karaage. I got the squid ink broth and it had a deep umami flavor.

Came on a rainy Saturday at 5 pm, took us less than 10 minutes to be seated. Wonderful typical Japanese ramen restaurant vibe with the speedy order before you get seated to your table. Squid ink soup is the most popular and a must try. Eggs are optional add on for about $2 which made it seem a bit on the pricey side. But hey, what’s a Japanese ramen with a half boiled marinade egg? This is the rare ramen restaurant in the Bay Area that gives you the option to choose soft or firm noodle and you also get to choose the amount of garlic added to your ramen. I always prefer everything to be regular. The help yourself free black pepper pickled bean sprouts was a highlight, my husband finished half of jar of it. For those who had squid ink pasta before, you knew it will always make your lips and teeth look black afterwards. However, we didn’t have this problem with the squid ink soup. It was an overall unique flavor and we would definitely come back next time.
We came at 6:30 pm for dinner and waited 45 minutes to be seated, which was expected. We ordered black, green, regular, and vegetable kings. They were all very tasty. The thick noodles had more texture than the thin ones. The added egg was great but we were not sure if it worth almost $3 extra. One of the options in the menu was adding oil, I asked them what kind of oil, and got the reply of "100% pure pork fat oil," which could add to the flavor profile. The staff were very attentive, checking on us occasionally. I took 1 star 🌟 off because I had a horrible upset stomach 30 minutes after eating the noodles 🙃 my other 4 friends were just fine. I also had a more sensitive stomach than regular people, sometimes high gluten or garlic triggered my stomach a bit 😅 I was perfectly okay with other Ramen places in South Bay. My friends were really excited to come back again. I may just eat adamame next time I come here.
Ordered the Vegetarian Ramen and Karaage chicken. This was my first time trying ramen and it didn’t disappoint at all – really happy with the taste, 5/5. The Karaage chicken was okay, nothing special but decent, I’d give it 4/5. Note: Prepare to wait at least 45 minutes to 1 hour to get a table at this restaurant.
I enjoyed this location. It always seems to be busy but it was worth the wait. I am not a huge fan of building your own Ramen. But the quality and flavor were decent. I would come back for another shot. Will update in the future. I sat at the booth. That was fun! Shout out to the Latinos working here. You know the food is going to hit when you see them in the back!
Plan to wait to get in. It's very popular. My son went on a Saturday night and waited 90 minutes to get in. We went on a Monday night and waited 40 minutes. The Ramen is delicious. The dumplings and the edamame are great. I especially enjoyed the sauce for the crispy dumplings. The original broth is very good, lots of flavor. My son got the black ink broth and his GF got the spicy red broth. They said both were very good. My husband got the green broth. It's a basil broth and I was afraid it would taste like pesto, but it doesn't! It's very mild and has a fresh herbaceous flavor. Service was okay. They forgot one of our appetizers and the edamame. We had to chase those down. Otherwise, solid bowl of Ramen and fun night out!
Really delicious ramen, great portion sizes too. There's only a few options of food, you fill out a little form to say what you want. There is definitely a line, I would say it's about 20 mins in line, 10 inside, and then another 15 or so once you're seated. So it's not a quick process! The inside is pretty medium sized, there's nice music playing, and the staff was quite attentive and kind. I don't know if it's worth the long line, but it's super delicious nonetheless, and a great place for a meal.
really great options for making it exactly how you want it, and still the default choices are brilliant. definitely worth the wait

As with many places where people have to wait in line, poor customer service. They do not seem to care about whether or not a person likes their service.

Overrated… is the one word which comes to my mind when I think about this place Waiting for atleast an hour, totally a waste of my time and energy. Wanted to see what the hype is all about but was disappointed. It’s not bad but it’s not worth it. There are many other places which serves much better & delicious ramen. Ordered Red King and ticked all the “chef recommended” choices which turned out to be not worth recommending. The karaage chicken was so so. Nothing else to add here. The food was major missing flavours. Not happy about the ruined evening. The seating arrangement is so weird. 2 person tables are so close to each that you cannot have any conversation with each other. It feels like the other table is always watching & listening and vice versa. Nah I wouldn’t recommend it. I would rather go to a mom n pop restaurant and have better tasty ramen than this super commercial overhyped place. Honestly just like me there were many who were only there for the hype. Not worth it!!
First and probably my only visit to the Palo Alto Ramen Nagi. Went for a mid-week, early lunch, and walked in without the famously long wait in line. The person at the door, explained the menu process, with a quiet voice, and we struggled to hear him over the general noise of the restaurant. Spouse and I ordered the Black King and the Red King, along with the karaagi. Both the ramens were fine, but not overly remarkable or memorable. The karaagi arrived after our ramen was on the table. It was warm, but not hot, feeling like it had been pre-made and sat for awhile. There were some juicy, and some overcooked pieces. The crust was crunchy, but a bit dense for our taste, overpowering the chicken inside. Was still drinking water to cleanse the palate several hours later. The cost is fine, as long as you don’t add a bunch of extras, though the bowl feels a little empty without an egg and seaweed. The staff is a mix of super helpful/attentive, and slightly clueless. In summary, they are famous on the social networks, and might not be worth the typical 30 minute plus wait, unless you really need the photographic proof that you were there.
This was the 2nd or 3rd time going to this location. Parking can be difficult to find, so we just parked one block away. We went around 5:30pm on a weekday and there was a line already. We waited around 20 minutes to get seated for 5 people. I normally get the red king with a spice level of 4. Other times I felt like the service was great, but this time I felt like the staff was just not there. When the person who sits down people at their table passed by, we asked for some to go boxes and he ignored us. When he was handing out the papers to mark down what you want on your Ramen, he would ask if it was your first time and not explain anything till you got inside. Normally, they explain the paper when they hand you the paper. If it wasn't for how good the ramen is, I would have twice about going again.
Fast service. There is often a line. They give you a paper to circle your order. Then you will give it to the server. This speeds up the process since the tables need to be turned over for the others…

Palo Alto's Ramen Nagi: Custom Bowls and Unforgettable Broth
Alright, fellow food lovers, if you're ever wandering around Palo Alto with a ramen craving, you absolutely have to check out Ramen Nagi. This isn't just another ramen spot; it's quickly become a Bay Area favorite for good reason, and I can totally see why.Be prepared for a line, especially during peak lunch or dinner hours. I’ve heard tales of 45-minute waits at 6:30 PM, though a rainy Saturday at 5 PM might get you seated in under ten. My advice? Go early or hit those off-hours to minimize...
