Opinions de El pelon Paraíso
So the food is amazing. Just be prepared..it is REALLY authentic. I know I know... You're thinking "Dude. I love authentic". No. This is AUTHENTIC. And I mean that I'm a great way. But if you're expecting a "more authentic" Chipotle, don't bother. It's like you're getting your food from a really great street vendor in Oaxaca. If you're used to Western "Mexican" food, and don't want to stretch your boundaries, don't bother. But if you want to really taste Mexico, this is the place. Oh...if you want hot sauce, sour cream, or any of that gringo crap... They'll totally give it to you. But you might need to ask. Must try IMHO.
The right balance of quality and price for a taqueria. The plantains are a guilty pleasure.
I eat here at least once a week like clockwork. The staff is family, the food is life changing and has you thinking all week about the next time you’ll have another burrito. Absolutely the best takeout Mexican in the Boston area. When we travel, our first meal back is always El Pelon. Imagine you’re in Italy and STILL thinking about your little Mexican place back home. Yeah, it’s THAT good.
Amazing food - best burrito in Boston, hands down. Bit sad they closed the Fenway location, as this one is a little more off the beaten path, but it's still so good. And the catering in on point, too.
Easy, great, and quick. Birria quesadilla is outstanding. The fish burrito was large, delicious, and filling. I tried the vegan tamales, but I would avoid - they are all masa with only a tiny sliver of corn and vegan cheese
The meat is unreal. It’s so good, whatever you get. As someone with a ton of allergies, they were pretty accommodating. Great spot for vegan cheese (if you don’t do well with dairy) and their tortillas don’t have gluten. It’s a hidden gem for real!
Absolutely loved my experience at el pelon taqueria! The caramelos tacos were a standout, perfectly seasoned meat with just the right amount of melted cheese in a warm, soft tortilla. The flavor combination was spot on, and you could tell the ingredients were fresh. The tacos had a delicious, slightly smoky taste that made each bite a delight. Service was quick and friendly, and the staff seemed genuinely passionate about their food. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for authentic, mouth watering tacos!
Is it the best Mexican place in Boston? Very likely but I have no proof. What I have a proof of is thousands of burritos and tacos eaten here over years. I was never disappointed if only in myself for overeating. I find fish tacos and burritos the best. The staff is accommodating to reasonable requests (gluten free, etc) but don't expect a bespoke cooking. Yes burritos are overflowing and not convenient to eat on public transit (which by the way you shouldn't do anyway) but you can always get a burrito bowl. Parking can be a challenge if parallel parking is a challenge for you, but if one is willing to walk there are more spots further along Comm Ave.
Love this place, must-visit if you’re in the area. Was there this past Saturday at 11:45AM just before the Boston College football game. Walked right in and ordered. If you go after the game lines are literally out the door. My favorite is the caramelos but they might be too spicy for some.
I want to eat every menu of this restaurant. It's so delicious. I ate enchilada with grilled beef. Tastes like western dumpling but it has a twist inside of the tortilla. The beef was cooked so well and I could feel every ingredient. Peppers on the top made harmony of all the tastes it has. Totally recommended
Moving my daughter in to BC, I thought we would try some Mexican food , good choice, right down the street from the BC campus ! Small place but pleasant ; food was fresh and tasty . When going back to BC I will certainly stop in again fir them delicious food ! Enchiladas were great! Burrito was excellent , according to Victoria . 😁
Great burritos and quesadillas. Comparatively smaller portions than other places, or similar to the small/regular option of other taquerias with large options. The food I enjoy: The burritos are simple but satisfying and filling. My favorite is the El Guapo, which has steak and plantains. The two ingredients make it a sweet and savory burrito which I surprisingly enjoyed together very much. The quesadillas are on the smaller side, but very delicious. The enchiladas and tamales are also good. Their guacamole and hot sauce are tasty additions to your food as well. I've eaten here many times and every ingredient has always been fresh. The food that wasn't to my tastes: I enjoy fish tacos, but I wasn't of fan of the ones here. The shell was fine, but asides from the small fish pieces, the only flavor was from some chile mayo. They were filled with blandness from six whole slices of cucumber that I didn't think went well with the tacos and a bunch of pickled cabbage. The tortas have a generous amount of the same great ingredients, but they are not executed well. Both times I've ordered them, including eating in, the bread was soggy and the torta just fell apart outside of the aluminum foil. I didn't have this issue in other places. If they would get rid of some of the extra liquid, I think they'd actually be really good. The Calabacitas (veggies) was okay, but nothing special. It was very liquidy. Service: The atmosphere and employees here have always been great and I would recommend this place for most items. Atmosphere: There are several tables here, most college students since this is right next to Boston College. Parking: It is difficult to park in the small area right out front. There are about 10 spaces, but it's for several stores in this area. There are a few more spots on the side, but you'll be driving down the side street filled with one-way residential streets, which may make it inconvenient to back on your route.
Okay just to start out I'm only rating this a four-star because there is no decent salsa and no alcoholic beverages served. Aside from that, super extra delicious loving comfort Mexican food that I will go back and seek out again every time I am visiting my daughter in Boston. It's very convenient to the Boston College campus and is always lively with students. Don't go there if you're not expecting to get some food on your lap. The burritos come wrapped in aluminum foil and that is a great thing until you unwrap it and start biting into that burrito which ends up on your lap and on the floor and on the table and on the napkins. That's the way it ought to be.
Only reasons for going here was to use the restroom. I paid for my food first and then asked to use the restroom and was told no. Had to go in and out of every business to find a bathroom as I'm a school bus driver and this is a daily struggle finding a restroom. The billboard out front was cute. I originally planned to go into subway and decided on Mexican because of the cute chalk sign out front. It said vegan tamales. I'm not vegan but love vegan/ vegetarian food., I bought the vegan tamele and Al pastor tacos. Tacos were great. But let's just say I tried to vegan tamele so you don't have too. It was awful. It was just Masa. Literally just dough mixed with corn. There was no filling. I dipped it in salsa Verde sauce just to get it down because I was honestly starving. And I complained the whole time. I love that they offered a vegan option but if you can't do it right then don't. Could have filled with with jackfruit or oyster mushrooms. They did offer vegan cheese too I saw on the menu. This was a one stop kinda of thing I don't know if I'd go out of my way for this place but the tacos were good.
Edit: went back tonight and my food was awful. Clearly rushing as it was close to closing time (in winter hours ). Had to throw out the tacos shells (super wet) and just eat the inside. Mushy and over stuffed black bean quesadilla. The college students of Boston and everyone nearby is so lucky. Visiting from out of town. Delicious and cheap. Hot sauce is a 12/10
It doesn't matter if they use 2 tortillas on the tacos. They get destroyed as soon as you grab them.
This was the most disappointing Mexican food I’ve ever had. The restaurant should remove the word “authentic” from its name because nothing about my meal reflected real Mexican flavors. I ordered the rice plate with chicken and refried beans. The beans tasted straight out of a can—bland, mushy, and processed. The salsa was equally bad, tasting like canned tomato chopped with no freshness or spice. The chicken was dry, barely seasoned, and certainly not Mexican in flavor. The rice, how can you get that wrong too? If you’re looking for genuine, flavorful Mexican food, skip this place and try Amuleto Mexican Table instead. Their food is fresh, authentic, and absolutely worth every penny. Try for yourself and taste the difference! Those who gave this restaurant thumbs up for delicious Mexican should get their taste buds checked!
If you want bad food, bad service, and over-priced food this is the place to go to. $20 dollars for a bowl. This is what happened. Ask for a bowl with Chicken (The worst chicken in a Mexican place, I think this chicken was boiled with rubber), told the lady what I wanted on my bowl, didn't pay attention didn't care didn't offer advice, Asked for a little rice got a bowl full of rice. Asked for extra lettuces I got a little lettuce Ask for no cheese got cheese, paid for extra chicken, got 0 extra chicken. Asked for no cheese, got cheese in my bowl. Asked for pico de gallo, extra $.75 cents. It was the worst pico de gallo, if you can call it that. Went I got my order and so what I got I told myself maybe is good what a joke. I was some bad that Ithrew it away right in front of them and they didn't even ask me what was wrong with it.So for $20 I got a bowl full of bad rice, a little bit of bad chicken, whatever they call pico de gallo ( you have to pay extra for this ), and watery black beans. I will stick to los Amigos or Chipotle, pay less and get more. Better food and better service.
Last month I traveled to one of the most historic cities in the US to visit my cousin. Her husband is from Boston BTW. "Brads" family swore up and down this was the "best Mexican food they've ever tasted". My cousin "Mary" and her husband "Brad" are nowhere near fans. So we went to El Pelón anyway. His family has NEVER had actual Mexican food in their lives, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. We went and the service wasn't great. I ordered two fish "tacos" and a steak "plato". I wasn't in the least bit shocked that both items I ordered were, hands down, 2000%, a cultural appropriation nightmare. The fish in the wannabe tacos was dry, salty, and extraordinarily bland just like the crap in the steak "plato". This is just white food in brown face and it's very insulting and extraordinarily racist. If you want authentic Mexican food, try eating at a Mexican restaurant owned by actual Mexicans. I absolutely LOVED "Brads" moms Italian cooking. She's Italian. His dads German/Austrian food was a dream. The dad is German and Austrian.
I got a Fish burrito yesterday and I told them just a little rice.. got chips and dip also. I walked 10min to bus stop and had 13min to eat and I opened half of the foil and the burrito exploded with rice 🙆🏽... food everywhere.. then tried to continue eating on bus and made a mess. I just left there again and I wanted to tell the manager what happened and the cashier told me sorry about yesterday and the manager is not here. I paid $21 for chips and burrito and queso... I will not go again for their lack of an apology also. Easy instructions just bad service
I’m so mad, because i come to eat there every afternoon before class, for the past few months you guys been lacking in making the food, I don’t know what’s going on with you guys, I usually ordered chicken tortillas plate with a side of guacamole for some reason the guac is so salty 🤢and the chicken 🐔 is Burnt🔥 and there’s a lack of flavor. So I don’t if they meant to be like that.
