Opinions de What A Chicken Petaluma
This place is awesome! Just too bad they won't let them grill out front anymore. It smells so delicious! Get their special platter. It's a huge fresh salad topped with 3 pieces of chicken, 3 giant ribs and grilled shrimp. Served with 2 sides and handmade corn tortillas and chips and salsa. All for only $23! So good I forgot to take a picture!
My favorite burrito spot in sonoma county and always a spot I have to stop at if I go anywhere near or through petaluma. Their chicken is just phenomenal, so juicy and flavorful, and their serving size is great for the price. The complementary chips and salsa is also excellent with a wonderful variety of flavors of house made salsa.
It's the most delicious chicken around. Get any chicken item: tacos, burritos, chicken plate, chicken salad. So good! And their salsa bar is hands down the best I've ever had. Love this place.
I'm seriously impressed by the excellent food and service here. The wait staff suggested several popular items, offered information about the size of the portions and the spiciness of their amazing salsa bar (definitely something for everyone). As for the food, it was so wonderful that I forgot to take a picture of it. I'll even admit that I usually dislike tortilla chips but theirs were actually good. Pictures to come on my next visit!
Got a whole chicken salsa chips and a large container of guacamole for less than $30 today. Enough for 4-5 people. Exceptional chicken. Really yummy. Great salsa and guacamole. Go. Hope you like it too.
They have the best veggie burrito I've ever tried! We've gone over 50 times and are still impressed by the quality, portions and consistency. The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The weekend salsa is to die for, and the every day salsa bar has so many options, including several pickled veggie options. The jugo is also incredibly good, especially the fruit punch, watermelon, and strawberry. For a place with the name chicken in it, they have fantastic vegan options as well. Overall, we are so in love with What A Chicken, and had to share our secret with the community. Look forward to more weekly burritos!
If I could give What a Chicken 10 stars I would! Their chicken is amazing! It tastes so good!!! It has the perfect amount of herbs, spices and smokey flavor! We paired it with mex rice, refried beans and fresh homemade tortillas that are out of this world delicious!!! The staff is friendly too!
Randomly found this place today and I’m so happy I did! Super tasty tacos! The shrimp tacos came with half an avocado! The carne was super tender and perfectly seasoned. Will definitely return for the ribs!
The chicken here is off the hook! The chicken burrito doesn’t need any salsa, it is so flavorful! But note the salsa bar is fantastic, more than just 2-3 salsas! The parking is a bit small, but found parking every time during lunch hours. There is seating inside and outside, enough space during lunch hours.
This place is unreal! If your looking for amazing authentic flavor, this is the spot. Stop reading other reviews and just go, trust me. They have it all, combo plates, burritos, tacos, salad....Good size portions as well. Chips and Salsa bar is off the charts. Affordable pricing, friendly staff and clean environment. It’s our new favorite go to in Petaluma.
This is some of the best Pollo Asado your gonna get. The salsa are great as well at the Agua frescas! Still our favorite place in Petaluma!!
Loved this place, they’re a small chicken joint and their portions are delicious and sizeable along with being reasonably priced. We ordered the two piece chicken and 2 small sides and four piece meat and 2 small sides, the grilled chicken and pork ribs both tasted great, and so did the sides of coleslaw and beans. They also came with chips which was nice. They are also generous with providing different sauces. The cucumber and pineapple drinks were great too, albeit quite sweet, mind you. The service was prompt and polite. They’ve around 5-6 tables inside for seating, and during lunch on a Sunday(when we went), some tables were still empty. They’ve parking outside as well. I’ll be back here soon.
First time visit to “What a Chicken, Pollo Asado Restaurant. The staff recommended the “What a Plate” for my wife and I to share, which included ribs, chicken, Shrimp, Salad and a choice of two sides. We included rice and black beans. The staff were very friendly and helpful helping us order. They also checked in on us a couple times to make sure we were enjoying our dinner!
If you're in Petaluma and your taste buds are screaming for something incredible, make a beeline to What a Chicken.Trust me, this place never disappoints. The chicken here is a game-changer: delicious, moist, and packed with flavor that hits all the right notes. You know those places where you take a bite and just have to close your eyes in pure bliss? This is that place. And let's talk about the salsa bar—it's like a flavor carnival. Whether you're into something mild or you like your salsa with a kick, they've got you covered. The chicken salad is my favorite go-to order. Healthy and packed with flavor!
Food was delicious and the tortillas are made by hand. If I had a bigger stomach I would eat more! Perfect portions and I like how they have the grill outside, the aroma got our attention!
The best chicken taco I have ever had! The grilled chicken was not dry and delicious! The taco itself was loaded with chicken, so the portion size was very generous. It comes with complementary chips and salsa. Roasted pepper salsa is very flavorful and spicy! Definitely recommend.
Small place with nice people. The food was amazing. The best burritos I've ever had. Free cucumber water was fresh and crisp, the nachos were hot and the salsa was home made and excellent.
I had the asada burrito which was excellent and filling. I didn’t try the bbq offerings. The salsas were fresh and a decent amount of spice level, but not too high. They have complimentary chips and salsas which is nice. However it would be great if they made their own chips with their homemade tortillas. I will definitely be back.
Love this place. So affordable and the portions are huge. I think the sides are the star here. The chicken was good, but a little dry. The salsas save it for sure though
This places burritos were huge, delicious and reasonably priced for the amount of burrito you get!! It was SO good!! I got the steak burrito and couldnt even eat a half of it. My fiancee got the chicken burrito and he ate a little over half!!
5 stars for the value... aka tons of really good food for the price. Nice place... the kind of place I like going verse going to a chain restaurant. I got the Chicken & Ribs plate . Comes with salad and two sides. They even give you chips and salsa . I enjoyed the rice with vegetables also... garlicky. Bottomline lots of good food.
Chicken tacos are 5 bucks and they're huge and so tasty! They also have the best Salsa bar in town with things like pineapple onion salsa! The steak taco was so amazing I couldn't wait to eat it so no picture, but it's just as big!
Okay, let me start with saying I've been here so many times I've lost count. Not even embarrassed. A coworker recommended this place and I almost want to be mad because I can't stay away. One taco is all I really need, but you know I order two then complain I ate too much for the rest of the night. Honestly, though how the heck is this place so good?! And $5.00 for the fattest taco you've ever seen! Ooooh yassss. I drive from Marin County to get my fix. Check it out.
First thing...the fresh salsa bar...unlimited (be reasonable) chips and salsa.. serve yourself. Great food , reasonable prices, cheery staff. Chicken can run out after a long popular day. Try it, you'll like it.
The "hole in the wall" with great food is my favorite type of restaurant. As you walk in you are met with a BBQ grill roasting delicious chicken and ribs, setting the tone for the delicious feast you are about to have. The choice of fresh aqua fresca, and the array of handmade salsas let you know you are in for a treat. We got tacos, burritos, and a meat dish. Everything was excellent! Will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.

Found this place via yelp. Me + family was hungry and in the mood for BBQ. This place did not disappoint with it's special called "What-A-Plate". It came with a little bit of every meat. Green salad and two sides of your choice. The presentation of the meal was very satisfying to the eyes and even more so to our appetites. Another bonus was that there was a variety of sauces, which complimented the meal. Definitely recommend to friends.
Came because of the name and I didn’t regret it. Their chicken is delicious. We got their chicken burrito and it was really good, but super heavy, even without sour cream.
What a chicken what a place. Living almost two years here, this was my Wife's and I first time. Parking lot is pretty small with one way in and out. Inside was smaller than I thought, but comfortable and set up perfectly for a quick bite. Expecting only chicken, options abound. Shrimp, ribs, beef, pork and of course chicken. What set this place apart from other I have been to was the service. At the counter the guy asked if it was our first time. We said yes, and he gave us full details of the items and offered a suggestion of the What a Plate. That way we could try everything and know what we really liked. It was great, rice and beans as the sides we took it with some Flan as dessert. Everything was amazing from the tortillas, to the shrimp and even the salad that was the base of our plate. It's billed as a meal for two, but it could easily be for 4 light eaters. Everything was great. But the service was awesome. Thank you.

This place is convenient and located in great place. The food is tasty, fresh, and well priced. I loved the salsa bar and complementary nachos. The only con I see with this place is the girls they have working at the cash register. There is no room for a rude attitude in the service and food industry. Maybe it's due to their age but the owners should invest some time in training these ladies in customer service. The front staff should reflect the same work ethic as the kitchen staff. I still recommend this place to anyone I meet.
First time here a week ago was great. My wife and I both ordered a regular chicken burrito. My wife loved the chicken quality (a rarity) and was amazed by how much chicken was in the burrito. I thought the same and the taste was very full and rich. 5 stars. I thought we had found a good place to get take out regularly. Second time there yesterday I tried the rib burrito and my wife had the same chicken burrito. Unfortunately neither burrito was even half as good as the burritos just the week before. The rib burrito had many bone fragments and gristle, and very little meat. The taste was ok but every other bite I had to pull out something from my mouth that was inedible. It made an unpleasant experience and I cannot recommend this item. 1 star. The chicken burrito was ok but not good, it contained about a third of the amount of meat as the week before experience. 3 stars is an average of the 5 and 1 star experiences. My guess is different staff were working. The place seemed crowded both times and their salsa bar has great salsas, although it is very difficult for anyone over 5'6 to reach in under the short opening. I'm only 5 11 and I have to bend down in a squat to reach the back salsa trays. Might try this place again, if a repeat of experience #2 we won't be back again. Whoever made my rib burrito should be waaaay more observant about what they are putting in someone's dinner. Some of the bones were sharp and could have hurt someone if they swallowed it 😕
Good price. Big portions! I think the food is fine. The line there is ridiculous! It's kinda been a thing everytime I've been there. Big wait, crowded, kind of at the will of the Gods whether you're going to have table or not. Buy that special and share with a friend. It's crazy huge!!
Usually when I come here the chicken is flawless in the super chicken burrito. But today I got 2 chicken super burritos with extra meat that were full of unchewable bits. And it was a grand total of over $46. Sorry guys, that’s not acceptable for the high price being paid.
Used to be so much better. Now they give you minimal sauces (from the sauce bar) don’t ask for just one more they will charge you. New person at the counter very unpleasant and can’t remember anything ( I used to go 3 times a week for takeout for my wife and I). Last week was the worst I needed to get a chicken salad and asked if it could be put in 2 different containers slip in half. This was an emergency food run for family just out of hospital. Answer NO we can’t do that. It started a can of worms as i complained and explained. They did not budge. I usually don’t write reviews good or bad but I’ve never seen this before. Too bad it is an easy place for takeout
It used to be better! The corn tortillas are thin and flimsy now… they used to be thick and amazing! The tacos used to have big chunks of chicken breast but now you get what you get. The salsa is still amazing but they won’t let you have more than 2 little salsa dishes if you dine in… what happened to pre-pandemic What a Chicken!? Bring that place back!
This is a great place! Everything, from the burritos to the tacos to easily the best salsa in town! And the agua frescas are just fantastic! I have eaten here at least 10 times and have never been disappointed. Plus the prices are very reasonable. Edited on 02/02/2022 - We have stopped eating at this place. The last two times we went the meat was full bone bits and gristle and the quality had plummeted. I don’t know if the owners changed or they got a new cook or what, but we are really disappointed. Would drop the review to 2 stars.
What a chicken? What a joke. Condiments are not fresh. The point-of-sale has it set up so they asked for a tip before I got the food. The burrito was wet. The salsa was not fresh. Verde salsa had a frozen ring around the top of the container, clear evidence of time temperature abuse. This place deserves much less than an overall 4.5, more like a three if you factor in the people who are probably uneducated as to how food should be prepared and served and who would rave about it. Meh.
Lo how the mighty have fallen. I dined here three times back in 2021. The chicken was delicious, fresh and so flavorful. Had me seriously considering moving to Petaluma. Fast forward to 2025. First of all ,the service was bad. The cashier was stoic to the point of unfriendly. The food was mid at best, and the portions have shrunk (sadly the prices have not). We ordered a whole chicken to go, and somehow our order never got started. Ended up waiting a 1/2 hour, with nary a apology in place. This place is solidly below average.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! I have never written a bad review on anyone but the guy who answered the phone when I called to inquire about my UBER EATS order has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever encountered! I ordered a whole chicken along with a bunch of other stuff for our July 4th dinner and they did not send any sauce. I called to ask why there wasn't any even though I placed a note. He said that they don't pay attention to the notes, we need to pay for the sauce and they don't include sauces with their take out orders. How are we supposed to know this if it's not written anywhere? What really pissed me off was when he said I'm just a worker, I can't help you. I asked for a manager or the owner and he said there's no one there! Extremely POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I would give this place a NEGATIVE ZERO if there was that option!
What a Chicken — what a fall from greatness. Used to be incredible. Yet today, Tacos are now half-sized or less, chips are behind the counter. 2 people working lunch rush instead of 4+, Beans watery and not as well seasoned as I remember. I’ll always remember how good it was in 2018, but don’t think I’ll come back in 2025. Update: got diarrhea within an hour of eating this.
Was so excited until I saw that the cook stuck his hands in the salad bowl / then tomato bucket/ cucumber bucket with NO gloves on then he opened the refrigerator door n grabbed more trays of meat - put more meat on the grill (no gloves) then made another salad (no gloves)…. I can’t eat here …. Bummer!! The lady at the counter (she wasn’t the owner) said, “Per County Health Department, he doesn’t have to wear gloves). I’m not sure if that’s correct or not…. I left.
Food tastes good 👍 ribs too greasy not enough meat but tasty. I’ve been buying what a chicken food since they first open consistently . I recently bought two tacos and they were so tiny with only one tortilla for $11.00 I would say that will be my last meal there’s too many cutbacks and changes. Probably Trying to save money or something .I’ll definitely take my hunger to Elroy’s. At least you get two tortillas on tiny tacos for about two dollars cheaper per taco 🌮.
