We had a wonderful date night this evening at the Independent. We started with the cheese appetizer. Blue, brie and another hard white cheese with toasted walnuts an amazing truffle honey and fruit. It was light, had amazing complimenting flavors and the presentation was fantastic. I had the old fashioned which was one of the best I've ever tried. My wife had a local Chardonnay that was recommended which she enjoyed. We both enjoyed the beef Wellington. It was cooked to a perfect medium. The pastry around it was soft buttery and crispy all at once. One guest next to us had the same and said he's had the dish at hells kitchen and says the independents rivals or surpasses at a lower price with a heartier portion. I particularly enjoyed the vegetables that accompanied the dish. Every restaurant serves the same broccolini or cauliflower with it's steak dishes. I was surprised to see corn, greens and peppers. For sides my wife had the polenta, creamy and cheesey! I had the Mac and cheese which was also amazing the baked crumbs on top were crunchy and the texture combination was as great as the flavor. We then had the most amazing pineapple coconut tart. I can't say enough about the menu and the options. It was a fantastic evening with amazing service and I can't wait to come back!

Best food, worth every $$ located right here. The Mushrooms, mash potatoes, bear battered french fries, the steaks, the salmon burger, the *light & fluffy* cheesecake and the bread pudding. With a party of 5, we were sharing each other's meals because we couldn't stop raving about each dish. You can't go wrong with the food here. All the way home, we were talking about the next time we'll go there. We can't wait to go there again and try some new menu items because everything was so good. Great drink menu and great service. Can't wait to go back again!

The fish & chips were among the best I've ever had. The outside & inside seating options are very nice. I prefer outside, even if the air is a little 'crisp'; by the fireplace under the pergola is especially nice. The waitstaff is pleasant and helpful. Overall, one of our go-to places after moving to El Dorado County.

Delicious food and great service! So excited to have found delicious crispy calamari with amazing dipping sauces. My husband had the pesto fettuccini with grilled chicken, I had the burger with fries and then we finished with the creme brûlée. Everything was perfectly cooked and we will definitely be back!

Went here for dinner with a group of 12. Food and service was exceptional. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. We sat inside. Great food and wine options. We started off with a salad which was good, not over powering with dressing. Ahi tower was yum perfectly seasoned. Main dish we shared the Hawaiian ahi crust which was a deconstructed sushi on a plate. Concept was good and did not disappoint. Portion of meat vs sushi rice was good. Dessert bread pudding was yummy. Warm and not very sweet. Our server was awesome and fun. He had great recommendations on food and drinks.

this is my second time at the independent, and i will say that i love that they use fresh and local produce, and high quality meat and fish. it totally enhances the dining experience! so lets get into the details: FOOD if you’re an app person, HIGHLY recommend the summer caprese salad. i believe it’s seasonal, but wow.. those tomatoes were SO sweet with the perfect texture. i could’ve had a plate of those alone. the mozzarella with the fresh basil and maldon sea salt, topped with 12 year aged balsamic?! if your mouth isn’t watering reading that, go ahead and read it again 🤤 the caesar had the most amazing homemade croutons & the garlic chips are out of this world. the only reason i gave 4 stars is because my salmon was overcooked; it was pretty dry and $45, that’s really unfortunate 😩 the steak was cooked perfect and the mashed potatoes were absolutely divine! SERVICE Jake was our server and took excellent care of us. everyone made sure our waters were never empty, and made sure we were all set throughout the night! SEATING lots of indoor and outdoor seating. great for small intimate couples or large parties! the outside seating area is pretty large, and was perfect for our evening. PARKING there’s a small lot adjacent to the restaurant but plenty of street parking and a big lot nearby! overall, we’ll absolutely be back, and crossing our fingers (& toes!) that the caprese is still around! 😍

We stopped in for lunch. Bar was full so we made our way to the patio. Server and bus girl were very attentive and got drinks right away. Server spent a good amount of time discussing great options on menu and items not on menu. We chose two top pics, Salmon and a burger. Both dishes came out very good, fresh fair portions. We were happy, mostly for the friendly service.

Very clean and simple place and food,not one dish went WOW!! Basic way you cook food at home.Service was real good.As usual in this area Seafood should mostly be avoided.Been there done that don't need to try again.

It seems like the atmosphere would change based upon what you look like. The server wasnt really hospitable, however the female bartender had excellent service. I had the salmon with asparagus and a roce cake. Delicious!! I wish i remembered which drinks i had but both were great, not watered down and you can tell the bartender takes her craft seriously.

Food was average to my palate. The radish fries were a little disappointing, but overall it was a dining experience. Kid friendly. Toddler spilled water and they were kind enough to clear it for us, without any issues

my friend and i love (a good) french dip sandwich! but before i get to that... the setting out on the covered patio very pleasant, cool (stone), stone fireplace that i'm sure gets a lot of use on colder days, pretty little lights in the ivy/trees on one side of the fireplace (not working on our side), a very pleasant little water fountain behind our table - but... wow! here we go... what a disappointment in the french dip sandwiches!! meat was shredded to the point of being mush - my friend said a chalky taste - i tasted no flavor at all; husband got the ahi salad - said the ahi was sinewy, tough - the only good dish was the ceaser salad with added grilled salmon (although you couldn't tell it was grilled - more like baked) that the other guest had... what a severe disappointment after reading so many positive reviews - probably won't be back - on the upside, however - waitress amy (i think her name) was fantastic!

I took my Daughter there for her birthday because I heard many good thing about this place. Where do I start, First I think they need to google Stuffed Mushrooms, I order their stuffed mushrooms and got a plate of cut up mushrooms in a garlic sauce but no stuffing? Second I heard the Truffle Mac and Cheese was to die for - it was about a 6 out of 10, the steak was ok at best and my daughter was really disappointment. I am not a complainer and understand food cost - over 40 years experience with restaurants in areas such as Monterey and Carmel. Over all the food was medium at best and way over priced for what you get. In my line of work I meet hundred of people a week and when the name Independents I let then know about my experience and my opinion. Again this in only my opinion.
