Stopped in for lunch and had a very tasty Caprese salad and wood oven pizza. Only outside seating for lunch, at least on this day. The lunch menu is pretty limited compared to the dinner menu so I would suggest looking it over. I didn't order a burger, but I did get a good glance at a couple of them as they were on the way to the next table and they looked goooooood. Maybe next time.

The food is fresh, creative, high end, yet also still comfort food! We enjoyed Arancini de Riso, Polynesian pizza, mamascotti flatbread, Cesar salad, Jambalaya risotto, chicken slfredo, bacon and corn carbonara, along with decently priced (for modern times) beer and sparkling wine. Service was top notch (thnx Shelby!). We also enjoyed being greated by Mateo, the restaurant doggy. Finally, the basement atmosphere is cool (both temp and design). The only thing I'd recommend is to eat inside versus outside, which may mean calling ahead of time depending on season. We ate there once outside and weren't as impressed with the vibe, though it's not bad. All in all, this is our current favorite spot in Placerville.

I’ve enjoyed both lunch and brunch at Smith Flat House. The patio is spacious and inviting. The service is gracious, friendly and accommodating. During one luncheon, with over 100 ladies, they served us with alacrity. The salads were fresh and filling. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the butternut risotto was creamy and flavorful. During Father’s Day brunch, we sat on the beautiful patio. Service was wonderful. The food was delicious. We had eggs, biscuits and gravy and breakfast potatoes. Everything was fresh and flavorful.

What a delightful experience. A beautiful spot in El Dorado County, just outside of downtown Placerville. Menu varied and had something for everyone. The weather was perfect so we could eat outside. However, took a tour of the cellar and fell in love with the ambiance. My steak/shrimp were cooked to perfection. By all means, order the grilled asparagus as a side

The food was delicious, but too expensive for the ambiance and clientele. For a small cut of filet mignon and 3 prawns with mashed potatoes, $63 is really expensive for Placerville. Wine prices were ridiculously expensive too.

So I went here on 9/6/24. For my birthday. My girl had a reservation and 5:30. We checked in fine. Located a seat. The seat was in the sun. They try to find shady spots and the sun happened to move and caused the shade to disappear and we asked if they could move an umbrella for shade. They did. One lady had some attitude. The checking in lady. The guy that took our order was cool. The guy that brought us the fly fan was cool. The food? The meat was perfect. The coconut shrimp was bomb. The sourdough bread was okay, it was all crust it seemed. The salad was not my favorite, but my girl enjoyed it. The negative: One cup had something nasty on it and I had to get a new cup. There were so many flies. Thankfully they had this little fan that would deter the flies. BUT, they were serving food to this one table and the flies were all over the food while the waiter would serve one plate and grab the next to serve. Nasty. Nasty. There was live music and that band was amazing. I would say definitely worth a try, but I won’t be returning on my dime. Thank you.

I haven't heard of this place before, and I would probably not know about it if not our neighbors' recommendations. The interior surprised us with the quaint charm of the past gold town era. My husband enjoyed his Lamb Shank $36 very much (the dish was the main purpose of our visit). I liked my Bouillabaisse $33 even though the seasoning was not typically European. But the best course of the evening was the starter - Scallops & Pork Belly $17! They were beautifully seared and went well with perfectly candied crispy pork belly which, surprisingly, did not overpower the scallops at all. We liked that they had a good selection of the local wines and beers on the menu. If I had to nitpick at something, I'd say the service was rather clumsy. Kind of harsh. Very incompatible with the rest (the food and the ambiance) of the experience but this won't discourage us from returning. I do recommend this place. This is a fun, unique, and quirky location. The restaurant is downstairs in the basement with stone walls and you can tell they tried to preserve as much of the history of the place as possible. Food was overall very good. The lamb and pizza were excellent but the sides to the lamb were mediocre and not super tasty. But I would still recommend this place as a great location for dinner.

Nice, rustic atmosphere in the cellar. Arancini was good to start with. Mains of shrimp jambalaya risotto was good, lobster and shrimp were cooked well as was the risotto just too corn forward for my taste. Lemon chicken piccata was served with garlic mashed potatoes that were bland, chicken itself was moist. Deserts were solid. Staff were friendly. Overall solid but was left with a sense of being underwhelmed by the food.

First time here for brunch, and we were super excited to try it out. The atmosphere is definitely incredible. Charming and comfortable. We arrived and were seated at 12:46pm. I was excited to try their brunch, but they didn't come by our table for anything until after 1pm and they'd stopped serving brunch. No problem. I had a backup. I ordered the sourdough bread basket with the tomato butter. Yeah, no. Apparently that's a misprint on their lunch menu, and they didn't have any bread baked. Fine. I ordered the Caesar salad. But the romaine lettuce was old and slimy, and I found a hair in it. Yes, technically the salad was still edible, but if I'm going to a nicer place I have higher expectations. Partner ordered the jalapeño burger and fries. The burger was fine, nothing special, but the fries were oily and floppy. DEFINITELY not worth $24, I can get a better burger at Carl's Jr. for half the price. Lady at the table next to us that had a dog in a stroller that barked anytime anyone got close. Will say, server was kind throughout, and removed our drinks from the tab. But the bill still came to about $50 before tip. I don't know how the $24 burger and $12 salad comes to $50, but whatever. Really disappointed in our overall experience and in the quality of the food. If you want to market yourself as a more upscale experience, then you need to follow through.

Special Christmas Eve dinner for my wife and I since we can't be with our children. Reservation at 4:15 to beat the crowd . Instead of going downstairs(which is awesome) The young girl's Seating people decide to take Us to what they call the glass house. Right away I'm furious because there was nobody in the restaurant downstairs. Special menu sucked my wife didn't finish hers and I barely could finish. You have to walk outside to get to the classhouse. It was raining pretty hard and we got wet. Just a chintzy set up. We will not be back!

As a Placerville resident, you want to support local businesses and one that has a good reputation in the community. Tonight was utterly disappointing. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and made reservations at 6:30pm. Our server didn’t engage with us or ask if we were celebrating anything. We ordered drinks and food promptly, and then proceeded to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food (salmon and a steak). My wife’s steak came out well done even through she ordered medium rare. Our waiter seemed to be purposely avoiding us and never came to refill our drinks or check on us. I voiced my concerns and received a very lackluster response from the waiter. Then to add more insult to the night, when we finally got the check, the waiter proceeded to fill up my glass of water and left my wife’s empty…. Very disappointed in the service at Smith Flat House. Not a great way to celebrate an anniversary. Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.
