Sonora Prime in Playa del Carmen is a fantastic steakhouse. The quality of the meat is outstanding, always cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The atmosphere is stylish and upscale, making it great for a nice dinner out. The service is also very attentive and professional, ensuring a great experience.

Such a Vibe — Perfect for Intimate Dinners, Families, and Large Parties! We had an amazing dinner at Sonora Grill Playa del Carmen — hands down one of the best meals of our trip! The food was phenomenal from start to finish. We started with the Octopus Chicharrón and Melted Cheese Tacos, and even my picky eater (who never orders appetizers) couldn’t get enough. For entrées, we tried the Beef Wellington, Countryside Skirt Steak, and Grilled Octopus — every single dish was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We finished with the Cheesecake and Chocolate Red Velvet Cake, and both were absolutely delicious. Our waiter, Ezequiel, was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. The whole staff went above and beyond to make it a memorable night. The atmosphere was such a vibe — elegant but lively, with a table-to-table magician and a drink cart mixing cocktails right in front of you. Whether you’re on a date, out with family, or celebrating with friends, Sonora Grill is the perfect spot. Highly recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had an absolutely incredible dining experience at Sonora Grill in Playa del Carmen. From the moment I arrived, the service, the setting, and the overall environment were simply immaculate. I started with the ribeye-wrapped asparagus which set the tone for an unforgettable evening. For my main course, I had the Beef Wellington, and it was perfection—cooked beautifully, tender, and full of flavor. To pair with the meal, I enjoyed a few glasses of Malbec that complemented everything wonderfully. What truly stood out was the attentive and top-notch service. Every detail was taken care of, and the staff made sure the experience was seamless from beginning to end. The ambiance is warm and elegant, creating the perfect balance between sophistication and comfort. Without a doubt, Sonora Grill exceeded my expectations in every way. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience in Playa del Carmen—I’ll definitely be returning!

The food was nothing short of excellent, each dish bursting with flavor, and the beverages? Simply perfected to tantalize our taste buds. Not the cheapest place for good food but worth every penny. Perfect service. Our waitress was top notch. The food was consistently excellent too. The desserts are exceptionally presented and really very good. The bean paste is also worth mentioning. It was explicitly recommended by the waitress and was the best bean paste I've eaten in Mexico. Highly recommended!

We were celebrating the birthday of one of our friends and they rushed our food. Our starters were still on the table when they gave us the main course and one of the starters were missing.

Visited during Spring Break. The restaurant is beautiful and I love the diverse music/videos. It has potential to be a great vibe. The restaurant was not really busy however, service was slow for both food and drinks. The 3 stars are for the ambiance, bean dip, spicy salsas (verde was my fave) and the broccoli. We had: • Berry Martini: Fresh berries but not very tasty • A drink served in a coconut- don’t remember the name but that one was actually good. • Octopus Chicharron: Requested it to be crispier but it still had a soggy exterior. • Onion Soup: It was entirely way too sweet. The soup itself had the right ratio of onions and cheese and served piping hot (which isn’t common believe it or not) and I’m glad it was hot. • Cowboy Dry Aged Prime Steak: I was extremely disappointed in this overpriced steak- I’m pretty easy going yet have expectations of certain types of steak and how it’s cooked. We ordered medium rare and it was soooo rare and requested it to be seared on both sides but I think the language barrier didn’t result in a seared steak. I think Mexico also just has different understanding of steak temps and definition of “USDA Prime”. We could barely cut the steak.. it was so chewy and I had to dang near tear the steak to even get a palatable piece. We never send steak back but we just needed to and asked that it be cooked a tad longer. They did bring out a hot grill plate to cook the steak but it still did not help. It was also flavorless and did not taste like a dry aged steak— It tasted and cuts like a Walmart sirloin. • The broccoli was soooooo good. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly enhanced by a citrus element- probably lemon. • Mashed potatoes were creamy but needed more garlic or some other seasonings. It had an interesting after taste- I think from either the cream , cheese or butter that they use. Will never go back and will never order steak in Mexico again.

We had an unfortunately disappointing experience here for a family Christmas dinner. We arrived for a 7:30 reservation and were seated around 7:40. We ordered promptly and after probably about 30 min, were told the kitchen was a little backed up but they will work to get our food out soon. Our entrees did not come out until 9:15 and while one of the dishes was hot, the rest of the food was lukewarm at best. We let the staff know and while the waitress was apologetic, she only offered to warm the food back up after it was nearly 9:30pm and we just wanted to leave. At the end of the night, we asked for the check and they tried to accommodate us with free sorbet despite us not even trying to order dessert. While we appreciated the kindness, it was not quite enough for the inconvenience of waiting 1.5hr for food and the food coming out room temp. After asking, they did take some additional $ off the bill but sadly wouldn't recommend this place if you are looking for a nice and high quality family dinner spot. The music, while good, was also incredibly loud!

We went with friends and family and I have never been more disappointed. Ordered the prime rib asparagus and it came out cold as well as the skirt steak and a pasta. For 3 people including 1 drink was $250. I ask if they could please warm it up and it came out the same. I got home and looked at the menu and what they charged and they completely scammed us. Crappy service and food was worse. Never again will I ever visit this place. Dark atmosphere so you can’t see the bill and when I asked if he was sure he had it right he said yes. Warning do not go unless you have money to through away because it was the worst!
