The food was really good especially the Nasi Kandar was A+ it was my favorite dish as it was very flavorful and glad I am finally able to find a good Malaysian restaurant close by in Pleasanton.

I’ve never had Malaysian food but it was pretty tasty. It was very flavorful, it was clearly a family run establishment. They were busy but efficient. Prices were reasonable too. The owner even explained what we were eating too. I would come back 🙂.

My family and I have been looking for authentic Malaysian Food in the Bay Area for a long time! My parents are both from Malaysia(Penang Area), and they always miss the Nasi Kandar food and energy that makes them happy after a long day. Finally, Curry Leaves Bistro did the justice of bringing the Penang flavors to the states! They provide from Nasi Kandar meals to Mee Goreng, which you will find if you travel to Penang. I have traveled throughout the west coast and tried almost every Malaysian restaurant, from Washington State to California. I do have to say this is the closest it gets to the fantastic flavors of Penang's food! The owner Jai is amiable and a passionate chef who enjoys bringing authentic Malaysian flavors and vibes. The restaurant has easy access with I-580 being near and ample parking if you decide to get a quick bite or want to have a full course Nasi Kandar meal!

Authentic, delicious, each ingredient is meticulously prepared. The owners go to great lengths to make sure the food is authentic and flavorful. I also like that they offer various desserts (kuih muih, cendol, kuih loyang) by local bakers.

Char Kway Teow was awesome. Nasi Padang was also very good and worth it, chicken leg was big and came with lots of rice. I guess I'm not used to the Mee Goreng, since I'm more familiar with the Singapore style, not Malaysian, so won't recommend it for Singaporeans. Will return for the Nasi Lemak next time!

I mean just take a look at the Teh Tarik we got. ON.POINT. We really enjoyed the Char Kuey Teow, Drinks and Kuih! Although the CKT was missing that really charred flavor, having it at its spiciest still hit the spot. For drinks - other than the Teh Tarik (which I have to reiterate was ON.POINT.), we got Asam Boi and Iced Coffee (Kopi Ais), the former was amazing and brought me back to when I was a kid sipping the same drink out of a plastic bag on the side of the street, very nice; the latter was good but the one we got was lacking in ice but could be a one time thing. Unfortunately, both the Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang & Nasi Kandar with Mamak Fried Chicken were lacking in flavor and overall spice. But I do have to say that the Mamak Fried Chicken was PERFECTLY fried, just lacking in seasoning and flavor. Overall a great Malaysian dining experience, ambience was top notch! Definitely coming back here to try the specials next time!

Best Char Kuey Teow i had so far in the Bay Area! My favourite and a must try! Plus a cup of teh tarik (also great), and it really gives you a feel of Penang. Also tried their nasi kandar banjir with onion sauce chicken, which was good, but i would have preferred the rice to have stronger spice aroma. Have room for improvement. Overall a must try!

Absolutely loving the food here. Very authentic and feels like I’ve been transported back to home, Malaysia. I’ve missed my char keow teow and roti canai badly ever since I moved here so I feel so happy to have food that taste like that from home! The nasi lemak is also very tasty and the best part is they have vegetarian option (which is what we ordered and love!).

S

The nasi lemak here is very authentic, right down to the traditional paper serving style that reminds me of my experiences in Malaysia. The sambal is delightfully spicy, adding a great kick to the dish.

The only place I could find Nasi Kandar from and owners are from Malaysia and all foods are tastefully authentic. So happy I drove all the way from Union city to this place and my husband was in awe of how good it is. Hopinh to see more menus coming in!!

Enjoyed the generous portion of nasi kandar which is hard to find in many Malaysian restaurants. Char kway teow has a good amount to greasiness and char that makes them one of the closest to food in Malaysia I can find! Family run business, and enjoyed the familiarity of hometown food making the trip from SF worthwhile.

Came back again for dinner on a Saturday. We were thrilled that they have Nasi Kandar. We tried the Nasi Kandar Banjir with Ayam Bawang (onion chicken) and the regular Nasi Kandar with Ayam Mamak (mamak fried chicken). Also ordered the Char Kuey Teow. All of them were excellent and spot on - same taste as the dishes you get in Penang, Malaysia. Owner/chef Jai and his staffs were extremely friendly. If you're craving for Malaysia (more specifically Penang) food, or you're the adventurous foodie, you should try this place.

Stellar delivery on flavors Malaysian from a strip mall kitchen in Pleasanton. Check out the regularly updated menu, ensuring there’s a new taste to try always. Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee came as two types of noodles in a satisfyingly fragrant coconut broth — tasting of the essence of shrimp and topped with shredded chicken. Penang Mamak Fried Chicken, both dry and wet spiced before deep frying for a crispy, spicy skin. The saltiness could have been higher, however.

So authentic and delicious food!! Nasi Lemak with prawns and fried chicken were so good. And I tried their iced Malaysian coffee the best coffee so far! Perfect price for the potions. Definitely will come back.

Finally a restaurant that serves delicious authentic Malaysian food (including desserts) in the SF and Bay Area!! The prices are very reasonable and affordable for everyone. The roti, made in-house from scratch, is the best I have had in the US and Malaysia. Also, it is the only place to try the Malaysian nasi kandar (bismati rice with curry sauces and meat). Highly recommend this place if you want a taste of Malaysia.

This is one of the best Penang Char Keow Teow & Nasi Kandar in the Bay Area by far. It’s run by this friendly Malaysian couple. Their dishes are very authentic, reasonably priced & made with passion. They strive to offer a taste of “home” (Malaysia/Singapore) & one of kind dinning experience with their weekly special dishes like Nasi Ulma, Nasi Kerabu, Asyam Laksa, Roti Canai, Roti Telok & etc. With both of my visits there, most of the customers are regulars and I really get the vibe of dinning in a neighborhood Kopi Tiam in Pleasanton where I get to speak Hokkien with the owner & customers where I could feel like ka-kī-lâng.

We drove from San Francisco to eat at this new Malaysian place and were not disappointed. The char kway teow was amazing and the owner was so nice and friendly. Even though we unfortunately reached after they closed, he was kind enough to still cook us some food. The place was clean, family friendly, and had all the nostalgic drinks such as soy bean and Milo. Will definitely make the trip here again to eat more delicious food!

The Nasi Kandar is legit and taste like back in Malaysian. My wife had the Char koay teow and it has the wok flavor. Nasi Sambal has room for improvement. Overall, I recommend this place for great Malaysian dishes. Notes : Nasi kandar does not come with hard boil egg and you need to pay extra for that.

I had the best Malaysian food here. I invited my friends who never tasted Malaysian food here to share some of the food I grew up eating. We ordered nasi lemak, chicken satay, char kuay teow and roti telur. I only took a picture of the first dish and totally forgot about the rest. I tried few Malaysian restaurants in Bay are and LA, and this restaurant came close to authenticity of the food. For those who are not very familiar with the dishes, do have a chat with the restaurant owner for recommendations. I would definitely recommend char kuay teow and definitely will come back on weekends for ABC and cendol.

We went during lunch time and had nasi lemak chicken rendang and char kuey teow. I am from Malaysia and this remind me of home. Chicken rendang taste amazing with spices. Nasi lemak rice cook perfectly and char kuey teow have smoky char flavor. This restaurant serve authentic Malaysia dish and definitely I will come over to try other dishes. Nasi kandar serve during dinner 1730PM until 1930PM

While the menu is limited, the dishes served reflect real Malaysian street food, and the quality is really high too. We got the nasi lemak and char kway teow and both were really good (but smaller than expected for the price).

Hailed from Sacramento just to try out at this Malaysian restaurant in Pleasanton over the Malaysia National Day weekend. Ordered special dish Nasi Kerabu, roti canai with curry chicken, char kuey teow, and curry laksa. Everything tasted delicious and generous portions for 4 of us. Not to miss the infamous Kari Puff and Teh Tarik! Being Malaysians, it was a very satisfying treat!! The cherry on top was the Nyonya kuih, which we craved that we never had living in the US. Hats off to Chef Jai!!

This is the most authentic Malaysian restaurant in San Francisco Bay Area. The cook is a friendly Malaysian and he is a master at creating the dishes. The food is halal, with no alcohol served. There is also no beef, which caters for non-vegetarian Hindus. I visit the restaurant every chance I get. My favorite dishes are nasi lemak and nasi kandar, with with various combinations. Also love the mee goreng and char-keuh-tiaw, as well as the teh (tea) and kopi (coffee) tarek (latte). Portions are good and prices are typical for the area. Highly recommend!

Friendly restaurant serving authentic Malaysian food: very flavorful and spicy food, the atmosphere is relaxed and practical. Service was excellent, fast and everything very clean. They are also optimized for takeout. I had Penang Asam Laksa and it was wonderful, exactly as I remembered it! We also had a Nasi Kandar with grilled chicken (so tasty!) and Nasi Lemak with lamb rendang, also excellent! Highly recommended for anyone looking for real, comfort Malaysian food with fresh and quality ingredients.

My third time visiting this restaurant and it never disappoints! Loved how authentic each dish tastes. As a Malaysian, this is still the best Malaysian food I’ve tried here. Totally love their asam laksa and it’s a must order dish for me everytime I visit. I also love their variety in nasi kandar selection. The ambience was great and totally makes me feel like I’ve returned back to Malaysia when i walk in. Owner and workers are all very nice and friendly. Would always recommend!!

This is my Malaysian family’s favorite Malaysian restaurant. The food is delicious and authentic. Jai is a passionate chef, frequently bringing new dishes to the menu and curating special dining events, like a recent AYCE Penang Hawker Food Fest. On top of that, it’s incredible how he’s created a community spot for Malaysians and Singaporeans (some even driving from 4+ hours away for his food). Some of my favorite dishes here over the years: -Penang Assam Laksa (not to be confused with curry laksa) -Char Koay Teow (fried noodles) -Char Koay Kak (fried rice cubes) -Belacan Fried Chicken -Penang LoBak -Roti Canai

Tried this place in Pleasanton today. The food tastes good and closed to the actual south-east Asian cuisine. It is kind of semi-self service. You order from the kiosk or directly from the cashier. Overall, if you are in neighborhood and want to try some south-east Asian food, check this curry leaves bistro.

One of the few authentic Malaysian restaurants you can find in the Bay Area. I recommend their Mamak Fried Chicken, Mee Goreng, and Assam Laksa (follow their FB page for heads up on weekend specials). You can also get good Teh Tarik here although sweetness is not adjustable. On special occasions, you could pre-order Ngoh Hiang or Hokkien Bak Zhang. The owner being a Penang native, never disappoints with these dishes.

This is great Penang food. I have been here a few times. As a 6 ft talk white guy, the lady at the register was a little amazed I liked the Penang Laksa. She triple verified that I like this type as it is sour and strong fish flavor. Last time I was here I called ahead a the chef was nice to make me a special order that I requested. Great guy and loves to smiles on people's faces with authentic Penang food. They also had a side dessert from local bakery, Pandan Chiffon Cake. Yummy

We love CLB!!! We come here almost at least a couple times a month, driving the 40+ mins each way to satisfy our char kuey teow (CKT) cravings! Chef Jai and Vicky have brought a piece of home with their very authentic and Penang-focused Malaysian dishes especially the must-haves CKT, roti canai, nasi lemak, mee goreng etc. The CKT is the very best, arguably better than most back in Penang too! Jai really brings the “wok hei” (pan heat) to it! But aside from the amazing dishes, the atmosphere at CLB is so homey. We meet old friends and make new ones every time we go! A real small town “kopitiam” (coffee shop) feel to it. Everything is halal and parking is easy in the big mall lot. Love it!

I'm currently visiting my wife in the Bay Area, and she was craving nasi ayam, so we decided to try out this restaurant. The food tasted just like home. We ordered roti canai, chicken rice, mee goreng, and nasi lemak. My least favorite was probably the roti canai—I think it would’ve been better paired with fish curry. The highlight of the meal was definitely the mee goreng. It completely won us over and, honestly, it’s one of the best I’ve ever had—even better than most I've had back home.

Really good Malaysian restaurant. Good food and big quantity. Just FYI the Laksa soup is not the creamy laksa Singaporean soup. It’s a tangy fish based soup. I highly recommend the Mee goreng. Also wanted to add the owner is the sweetest. My friend wanted to try the Laksa but was unsure… he even gave her some of the broth to try.

Probably the most authentic Malaysian restaurant in the bay area. The menu is very limited, but the quality of food is good. The portion of the noodles are on the smaller side and can easily be finished by one person. However, adding an appetizer would make it too full. Would come back with more people.

Authentic Malaysian food in a casual setting. We tried the chicken rice, char kway teow, chendol, and iced teh tarik - and everything tasted great! - chicken rice - chicken was tender and flavorful. Both ginger sauce and chili were authentic. - char kway teow - good wok hey and right amount of chili heat. - Ice teh tarik - was sweet but not too sweet and tasted like tea. Will definitely visit again to try more items on the menu!

I thought the food was pretty good overall. I was a little bummed that they didn’t have any hot beverages, but aside from that, everything else was solid. This is probably the closest I’ve come to authentic Malay food in the US. The roti canai was a bit on the thicker side — more of a personal preference, since I tend to like mine thinner. The sambal that came with the nasi lemak leaned a bit sweet for my taste. That said, the spicy mee goreng was absolutely delicious — definitely the highlight for me.

I tried the Penang Char Koay Teow and Chicken Curry Mee, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were a bit small, but the taste was good – totally worth visiting. The restaurant has a cozy, homey vibe that’s perfect for a casual meal. The service was a little slow, but it was the weekend, so I wasn’t too surprised. The staff were friendly. Even though I’m not Malaysian, I loved the flavors and the relaxed atmosphere.

The Food I always thought there was only one type of laksa, but recently I got introduced to Penang asam laksa. There are very few places that have this dish, and Curry Leaves Bistro is one of them. It is quite interesting because the restaurant doesn't quite have a set menu. They have a normal menu that's fixed, but they also have a "Today's Menu" which is different from time to time (check Facebook for update). I've only been a few times. The first time I got their Nasi Kandar with Mamak Fried Chicken, and the second time I got the Asam Laksa. I also got different small dishes such as... - Karipap (Curry Puff) - Pulut Nangka (Jackfruit and Sticky Rice) - Nyonya Kuih Combo (Dessert) The Nasi Kandar was flavorful, and the Asam Laksa was quite unique compared to other laksa I've tried. The Karipap, Pulut Nangka, and Nyonya Kuih were also interesting. I want to come back another time to try their other dishes as well. The Miscellaneous The restaurant resides in a typical plaza. At first glance, you might not know they specialize in "Penang" Malaysian dishes. The interior is also kept simple, but with a decent amount of seating. They do not have a fixed menu, but they do have a variety from rice to noodle, to bread, to special dishes. They also have a variety of drinks that I didn't get a chance to try much. They usually announce their special on their Facebook page, so keep an eye out. Would recommend this place if you are looking for some unique Penang Malaysian food.

A Penang style Malaysian restaurant. They provide standard menu and daily specials. I have only been here once so I cannot give complete judgement. I did order three items hok kein mee, mee goreng and nasi lemak with chicken randang. The mee goreng was the best dish out of all them .the hok kein mee was ok. I would give it 3/5. The mee goreng 3.5/5. The chicken randang with the rice and sambal would give a 3.5/5. I feel the chicken randang the gravy could have been reduced more give it a thicker base. Flavor wise it was on the milder side when it comes to aromatics. Put more dishes and aromatics in the base. The owners are very sweet and kind. I did feel like I was in a street side restaurant in Malaysia when I walked in. I think this place needs to be a bit more bold in terms of flavor. The recipes are authentic but they can amplify the same flavors more with a bit more aromatics and herbs. For example the mee goreng use garlic chives instead of spring onions. Garlic chives are more traditional. Satay was not on the menu. I think that should be standard in any Malaysian restaurant as a starter. I think as a weekly special introduce some malaysian fish beef curry or ikkan bakar or crab pepper. I know the owners are Malaysian and they can definitely be a bit more adventurous and bring their soul into their food and set a unique brand for themselves. There was nothing on the menu that stood out to me from other Malaysian restaurants in the bay area. That is why I ask you to use local California sea food and introduce Malaysian style sea food dishes. This place has potential to do much better and I think they can with a bit of risk.

I was really looking forward to trying this place. We have heard raving reviews about the food and was really looking forward to the best char kuey teow in the Bay Area. We ordered 4 dishes. Roti canai, Nasi Lemak with mamak fried chicken, mee goreng, and their famous char kuey teow, along with 4 Malaysian iced tea. Honestly, they were all underwhelming. Char kuey teow was lack of flavor and lack of wok hei. Mee goreng tasted ok but again, no wok hei and hardly any protein. Fried chicken was dry for nasi lemak and roti canai comes with only about 2 tablespoons of dhal. Don't even talk about the service, if there was any at all. Sorry but I was not impressed.

Ordered a few dishes here including Mee Goreng, Char Koay Teow, Nasi Lemak, and Roti Canoi. The Roti was fresh and fluffy - best one I've had in the Bay Area. The same goes for Nasi Lemak served with crispy fried chicken. The other two stir fry noodle dishes were spicy and relatively flavorful. If you're ever in Pleasanton looking to try Malaysian cuisine, you should include this dining establishment on your list.

Food was just okay. We had 5 dishes, the mee goreng was the only thing we loved. The lamb Rendang lacked flavor. The roti cenai also tasted bland. The rice noodle seafood wok fry - Penang char koay Teao was a mush and greasy. The oil tasted not good quality also. The Sandai in WC much tastier food, ambience and worth its price. Curry leaf bistro was greasy Malay fast food, unhealthy preparations and a line-up to order. No ambience or service to speak of. Try Azalina in SF if you want really amazing Malay food. We could not understand how this place rates 4.5.

Over hyped Over priced. If must eat here, dine in, don’t do take out. This way if things go wrong you can complaint in person and hopefully they’ll fix it. It maybe a rare find to have a Malaysian restaurant around this part of town, does not mean one should push review for greatness when it’s NOT! At best a mediocre hawker stall food that I would never repurchase from. Ordered take out for Thursday lunch. Mee Goreng Seafood- $16- got 3 shrimps, a sliver piece of squid, no eggs, hardly any greens and 5 stalks of bean sprout. Complete rip off since it looks nothing like their picture nor what’s stated on menu. I basically paid $5+ per shrimp with instant noodles. Also got the Nasi Lemark $16 and Nasi Kandahar $16 for a 1/4 of a chicken (drumstick and thigh). The chicken was on the dry side. Even though they didn’t add the egg that was suppose to go into my Mee Goreng. I got a bunch of egg shell pieces as garnishment in my food.

*to owner response: of course you deserve days off! but, there was no sign at the restaurant stating the reason for closure - we looked all around for it. it seems unreasonable to expect new restaurant visitors to check your Yelp and social media sites first. the review is not meant to 'punish', but to advise to please consider putting up signage for the closure reasons next time, thank you. We came at 5:30pm on a Thursday, but no one was here and it was all closed :(

We ordered hainanese chicken rice and nasi lemak with chicken rendang. The hainanese rice was half cooked (there were parts where the rice was still crunchy). The nasi lemak rice was over cooked. The chicken rendang was bloody raw inside. They were pretty bland to begin with. We were looking forward to trying this place but left disappointed.
