If you’re looking for a quick and delicious meal, this place is a must! I ordered the beef chow fun with extra egg, and it was perfect—full of that authentic, smoky wok hei flavor. Just a heads-up: make sure to ask for spicy beef chow fun. It is amazing. The highlights for me were the chicken chili oil dumplings and the garlic pork XLB. The soup inside the dumplings was incredibly flavorful. On top of the great food, the service was lightning-fast and the restaurant was spotless. Highly recommended!
First time at Ju Feng Yuan and it didn't disappoint. There was a wait at noon which was a good sign, since they open at 1130am. We were sat pretty quick, but it probably depends on how large the crowd is and how much a group orders. The orders came out super fast. We couldn't dish out enough to clear room for the next, so you don't wait very long. Make sure you bring friends to share with and everyone wants what is being ordered to keep from ending up with a backlog of dishes. The dishes themselves were fantastic. I can't speak for how it compares to mainland Chinese cuisine, but compared to other dumpling places I've been to in Taiwan, this was spot on. The xiao long bao were great and had slightly thicker wraps than Din Tai Fung. Personal preference, but I like this better so I don't risk breaking it and losing the soup in the steamer. The ginger serving it came with was generous, but I forgot to ask for vinegar. All of the veggies were extremely fresh, the green beans were my personal favorite. We ordered some fried rice and chow mein as well. The pork chop on the fried rice was great, it seems like it was a very fresh cut and it was tenderized well. Very juicy and a good crisp texture. The egg in the fried rice had a gorgeous orange yolk, which is nice to see they use good quality eggs. The chili wontons had possibly the best sauce I've had in chili wontons. It's very savory with good umami. I love spicy food but not everyone at our table does and the flavor to spice was more mild so almost anyone could enjoy these. I would highly recommend the chili wontons paired with the fried rice. You can use the rice to soak up the leftover chili oil on your plate and add an extra flavor. But the fried rice is delicious on its own. Not too heavy and exactly how a fried rice should be. As for the chow mein, it's not my favorite dish (in general not this restaurant) but I still enjoyed it. The sauce was nice and the diced pork added a nice texture. The ambience was good as well. The tables were all good heights and the music was loud enough to hear but not too loud to detract from conversation. Kind of a small thing, but the cups are great. The plates are also a nice touch, they have different designs which were nice to look at and just made it feel like an overall really premium experience but without the hassle of larger restaurants. Overall 5 stars. I think this restaurant could probably get busy and suffer from lack of seating, so it would be nice to see if they are able to get some kind of seating set up outside since the weather is nice almost all year round and it would be a fun experience! Thanks for the meal!
It’s my first Chinese restaurant with good food! I can recommended for anyone, - noodle soup, dumplings, rice and noodles with meat, very big menu. And important info it’s handmade dumplings!
Went here on Sunday with my friends for brunch, we ordered a bunch of classic dumplings from steamed to pan-fried, fried rice, chow mein, and orange chicken. Everything tasted really good and fresh, and very sophisticated. You may not get overpowering salt and sugar, here, but everything is very well-done and easy on the palate. The team here is the nicest that I have ever met, they really go above and beyond to ensure you have a pleasant experience. I'm in customer service and am very hard to impress, but they knocked this one out of the ballpark. I would go back here for the food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Update review -Took my mom to Ju Feng Yuan Dumpling Cafe, and she loved it! The pork & shrimp potstickers were juicy and flavorful, and the wontons in chili oil had a bolder kick than DTF’s. The cumin lamb was aromatic, though my mom thought it was slightly overcooked, and the sweet & sour fish was a surprise favorite—perfectly balanced and appetizing. Service was friendly, and I learned their colorful soup dumplings are naturally dyed. Can’t wait to come back on the weekend to try their giant soup dumpling with a straw! Previous review - I’m very impressed by this Chinese restaurant! It’s right next to the barre studio where I’ve been going for almost a year. They are absolutely busier and more popular than I thought. It was almost full on a rainy Wednesday night. Their foods are very good. We had their signature colorful Xiaolongbao and Beef warp and a Mopo Tofu. Everything is delicious and authentic. I will totally come back to try other items.
One of the best dumpling restaurants! Very substantial menu with dumplings, noodles, and authentic Chinese dishes. In addition to XLB, we enjoyed the sweet and sour pork, honey walnut shrimp, and spicy chicken. Haven’t had a bad dish here. Once sat down, the waiter will hand you an iPad to order. This is very efficient. The orders go into the kitchen immediately. Nice decoration with wall murals depicting Chinese cuisine. This is our 4th visit and will definitely continue to dine there.
The restaurant is very small and by the timing of the kitchen I’m guessing the kitchen is even smaller. But wait— The food is 5 stars. So for that reason alone I would come back. It’s best to go earlier to beat the rush as food will take longer to arrive especially for a large party. The kitchen timing for food is on the slower side and dishes come out one at a time. So it’s not the fastest food service which doesn’t help if your party is hungry or has kids, which our party was and we had kids. The food was so slow that I didn’t have time to take pictures of all the dishes as we were hungry and devoured every dish that arrived at the table. The dumplings and XLB were all so delicious. The food is very authentic. I appreciate that they give every table a tablet to order our own dishes, as the tablet has images of all the food so it’s hard to mess up your own order. Conclusion, I would come again with 1 person max, for take out and during a non-busy time.
If you like my comment please click on the ❤️ and show some love 😽 This is a Hidden Gem+ first time here and already loving it. Very friendly staff, very very clean, and the atmosphere makes you feel like I'm in a very expensive place. The food was awesome, the coco shrimp was really good, the mixed fried rice was AWESOME, the beef noodles is good while it's hot. The spicy dumplings... Yeah that was very spicy but good. Over all, yes I recommend this spot to anyone.
Food: 5/5 Service and Setting: 3.5/5 Value: 3/5 Ju Feng Yuan is a new restaurant that has opened where a Lao restaurant used to be. The interior has not changed much and there is not even a sign up yet. The restaurant itself is clean. They are very short staffed so while the service is very kind, they do tend to run behind. One of the chefs would come out and serve the food and share lots of information about the restaurant and how things are going in Mandarin, so if you want to practice this a great spot! The young lady helping me in the front told me that this restaurant is an extension of another small restaurant in LA. I was not expecting much, but the food here is exceptionally honest, authentic, fresh, and has a homey flavor. Please come out and support a new small business! Pork and Chive Dumpling: 5/5 I really wanted to try their xiao long bao 小籠包 and their sheng jian bao 生煎包, the waitress told me that they just sold out. I got the pork and chive dumpling instead and it was very good. The skin was thick and chewy the way a boiled dumpling should be. The filling was lightly bouncy and had a good amount of soup inside. The ratio of meat to chive was perfect as well as well seasoned. I did not like the dipping sauce and would have preferred just some soy and black vinegar, but I did not want to add more to their work load. A stellar example of what a dumpling should be. Shrimp and Pork Wonton in Chili Oil: 5/5 This wonton was also spectacular. I have always been disappointed with wontons from most restaurants as they tend to use the same filling as their dumplings. At Ju Feng Yuan, they do it the right way with a coarsely chopped meat and big chunks of shrimp. Again, a deliciously thick skin with a wonderfully springiness that soaks in the sauce. I am not a particularly big fan of their chili oil, but it is very complex and hits all of the flavor points, particularly sweet and sour and not so much spicy. To me, it tasted a lot like a sweet and sour version of sha cha jiang 沙茶酱. Beef Dumplings: 4.5/5 I’m not an expert on Chinese food, but beef and onion dumplings are a Northern style that I do not have a lot of experience with. Always seeing people eat this online has made me crave it intensely and I’m glad I got to try it here. It is not common to serve and they do a good job. The flavor of the meat is strong, almost a bit gamey with some bits of gristle that I think help give it flavor. It was a bit tough, but “tough” isn’t the exact word I would use. Maybe sinew-y? The flavor was shockingly similar to beef kebabs, especially Pakistani renditions. Again, the dumpling skin was great and lots of soup inside with the filling.
I cannot describe in words how amazing this place is. The service was good, food was amazing, and wait time wasn't long! I would highly recommend trying the soup dumplings and the pig custard dessert as those were my favorites. 10/10 highly recommend.
Came in today to support this new business! They’re still on Soft opening so their menu was temporary and limited. We ordered: • Xaio Lang Bao - It was delicious, very simple yet flavorful. It was not on their temp menu but they have it available, yay! • Combination fried rice - It was pretty good and quite filling. It had shrimp and pork. •Popcorn chicken - This is an appetizer. Also very good! It’s Taiwanese style :) •Shrimp & chicken wonton in chili oil - I love this one! The chili oil was the game changer, it was so good! •Beef chow mein - I’m not a fan of chow mein but this one was so flavorful I ate more of this than the fried rice. Customer service was 10/10. The staff were friendly and knowledgable, our server knows what’s in the food, and was able to answer all our questions.
We came to this place looking for some spicy chicken wontons and xiao long bao and they did not disappoint!! The chicken & shrimp wontons are really flavorful and filling; not too spicy but enough of a kick. The xiao long bao have a soft, squishy exterior and inside the filling is nice and chewy with so much soup inside. And the pan fried dumplings have a more meaty flavor than the other two but really flavorful as well. Additionally, the prices are not crazy expensive either. We ordered 1 appetizer of veggie spring rolls and 5 main dishes and it came roughly to $80, plus we left stuffed! The service is great, food is amazing, and price isn’t bad, overall, definitely recommend!!

Authentic Chinese! Everything is so savory and delicious 😋 they even have vegan/ vegetarian options. I crave the green beans and Mapo dishes like every week!! Service is great everything is nice and clean, including the kitchen and the atmosphere gives a humble home cooked meal vibe.
This is a wonderful Chinese dumpling restaurant that is hidden away on palmetto and Scripps Poway parkway. The food is excellent, service is professional and it has some very interesting decorations. For a little added fun. Fun! It now has Halloween decorations along with the normal Chinese venue. We had the fried rice noodles shrimp, the eggplant and the beef wrap. All were excellent. I especially like their eggplant and the sauce.
Legit!! Had the shrimp and pork dumplings, chili wontons, scallion pancake beef roll, spicy cucumbers, and sauteed broccoli. New owners were super nice. Only feedback is that the acoustics are rough - it's loud in there.
We had a great experience at this Chinese restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by a new dessert we tried. The chocolate-based dessert was unique and not overly sweet, with a nice balance of flavors that felt both creative and well thought out. It was something different from the usual options and a great way to end the meal. Overall, the food was enjoyable, the dessert stood out, and we would definitely come back to try more items from the menu.

We have been here 5 times now. Our entire family loves this place. Great dumplings and other dishes too, always attentive and friendly service, prompt water refills, reasonable prices. Great local spot!

Stopped by for lunch on the weekend and was able to get seated quickly. They give you menus, however you use your phone to access the app to order food. Most of our food came out quickly but had to wait a bit for the beef roll pancakes (which I was looking forward to the most). I enjoyed the beef rolls but felt I could skip the orange chicken. The spicy dumplings weren't too spicy but there was extra chili oil available. After you are done ordering you can close out your order and pay at the cashier. Overall the food was decent and next time I am in the area I'd want to try some of the other dumplings on the menu. I do want to mention that I realized later I had not completely closed the app and could see the order of the next people seated at the same table. I might have been able to add items, but didn't try it so something to be aware of.
We visited this restaurant recently with my family. Ambience: this is very cozy and amazing place. There is this special structure resembling some temple which is the star of attraction. Service: probably i think there are only 2 waiters who serve as cleaners as well. So do not expect any quick response. But, trust me they have this order yourself QR code on the table which can place the order. Neatness: the restaurant is neatly maintained along with restrooms. Staff is kind of confused that might be because they are understaffed. Just like those amazing restaurants you can see chefs preparing momos and buns live at one of the corner. Rates are economical, and portions are huge. 2 people can share 1 dish easily if you have an appetizer and desert.

We had a great lunch there yesterday. The service is spot on and the food is well above average. While the dumplings are good, we loved the vegetable offerings.

Ju Feng Yuan, second date (C+) First date with Ju Feng Yuan was great. Unfortunately, 2nd date was very much downhill. Long wait and getting accused of not responding when called (not possible since I was famished and essentially pay close attention to the greeter’s every move), over 30 minutes wait for mediocre food, and the worst chairs ever, I don’t think there will be a 3rd date. Sauteed string beans (C+ ) : This was a highlight dish the first time we tried JFY. Given the long wait, I expected fresh from the wok, piping hot, savory yet sweet, crunchy string beans. First bite, a total disappointment. It was maybe a touch over lukewarm but not more. The seasoning was a little light, not too bad, but the string beans were quite overcooked. First date was hot, stiff and crunchy. Second date, cold, soft and limpy. A total let down. Pork spareribs w garlic (B+ ) : The highlight of the night. Freshly fried, steaming hot, savory and crunchy on the outside, juicy meat on the inside. My only complaint - the ribs were somewhat bony. But this was a very good dish, and brought hope to the meal. Beef chow fun (C+ ) : Okay on the seasoning, felt a little oily, but the biggest problem, beef chow fun served not hot enough is like serving nigiri, or beer that’s too warm. And the beef, again, well seasoned but the texture was a bit mushy, maybe too much baking soda and simply meat that’s not fresh enough. Combination fried rice (B- ) : First bite, super promising. Light, hot, and some nice fragrance from the egg. A few chews in, the rice wasn’t cooked properly, much too tough, with quite a few clumps, definitely a no-no for great fried rice. The use of spam was smart, giving little bursts of savoriness. The shrimp tasted light and springy. But the pork killed the good traits; tough, dry and the worst part, a frozen, non-fresh taste.
