Everything was yummy! Cute quiet lunch place with great atmosphere! Burger was delicious, juicy and well prepared. Fries were perfect and can be shared with 3-4 people. Very cute inside and even though it was a casual dining feel the food was very elevated. Everything felt chef prepared and presentation was upscale.
The food was phenomenal! I came with my dad and brother tonight on a whim and we loved it! We sat on the front patio. I had the salmon poke and it was delicious and totally fit for a meal (it’s on the starters part of the menu). The restaurant is beautiful, the staff were very nice and accommodating and the food was amazing. Will definitely be coming back!
Really nice place in the heart of the Redondo Beach Riviera district.
This place was so good! We got the oysters and fried avocados to start. Then ordered the Ahi Tuna sandwich w/ truffle fries, and the Salmon Poke, and a side of Brussel Sprouts. Everything was so delicious. Originally we were going to get the berry cobbler for dessert but our waitress let us know it was just 'ok' and they still needed to fix it. So she suggested the Sticky Toffee Pudding as her top, or cheesecake was next. The sticky Toffee Pudding was great 👍🏻 We will definitely be back here to eat!
My brother and I stopped by for dinner, having always wanted to try it. We made an Open Table reservation, yet when we arrived, they said last call had been about 1/2 hour ago. BUT, they apologized for the glitch with Open Table and honored our reservation! They could not have been nicer or more gracious about the situation. The service from beginning to end was fabulous. We ordered oysters to start, I got a grilled artichoke & a crab cake. My brother got the short rib. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend.
I came here for brunch. The food was pretty good. I got the breakfast burrito and asked for the sauce on the side. Pretty big portions. Also friendly service and pretty chill outdoor dining space.
Great location with outdoor seating and really good food. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Patio heaters were great on a cool evening. The downtown Redondo/Riviera area is very walkable with tons to do. The only downfall is that parking can be tough. Definitely give The Hook and Plow a visit.
I've been here for brunch and $10 Thursday burgers. Never had a bad meal after three times. Their small plates are all tasty and the Redondo Beach location is nice this time of year with the open air windows and outside patio. Always friendly good service.
Love everything. Relaxed environment for 4 of us to have dinner. The restaurant is pretty full for a Wed evening. We ordered seafood dishes and shared a salad. Everything terrific and delicious with fresh materials. The salad is the best thing exceeding our expectations. We will be back.
We eat at H&P all time and whenever we are walking QT the superpuppy she tries to pull us toward Hook & Plow with all her mighty little dog strength... they have a doggy menu for the patio and she loves the dog burger. Her people love the human menu just as much... they have some nice variety and flavors on the menu presenting something for everyone, all in a relaxed but nice environment where just about anyone will feel comfortable, welcomed, and have a great experience. Favorite items would be a long list but the steak sand is money, the scallops with the yellow sauce.. amazing! great burgers and we love their oysters.. we have to say best oysters in the village. Obviously you have a ton of options right on top of each other in the village but we tend to go to Hook & Plow over and over and it is one of our favorites due to the excellent service, great menu, and vibrant comfortable patio that is dog friendly. If you come here you will probably become a regular.. that's how they get ya. 5/5
Hook and Plow on South Catalina is one of our favorite local spots in the Riviera Village. We are fans of their raw oysters- their mignonette is special. We also generally always get their clam chowder. We've tried just about everything on their menu which changes just a little every season and it's all pretty good. We really like their mimosa flight, too. That's only available at brunch. Note on the price per person - while we spend about $50pp, it's generally because we get the seafood platter (for 2 ppl) or tower (for 4 ppl), plus a mimosa or bottle of bubbly... Anyway, a meal here can be as cheap as $25pp.
Easy to make an online reservation. They are keeping social distance. We had the pekoe avocado appetizer and the salmon salad. Enough to share for two. Room for dessert. Bread pudding with ice cream. It was all so yummy!
The breakfast burrito was amazing! Peach sriracha and crème fresh! (I had them bring half for later) One of the best I’ve ever had! My friend had the breakfast sandwich and loved it! Brittanie was our waitress and she was fun, friendly and efficient! Highly recommend.
Great lunch spot! For a lite meal we love the salmon poke and their burgers are delicious if your up for that type of meal. The outdoor patio is fun to people watch and get cozy by the fire pit.
Lunch special deals are great!! 2 for $15 or 3 for $20. I ordered Fish Tacos and Furikake Fries. My friend ordered Fish Tacos and Arugula Salad. Everything was delicious and very filling.
My first time visiting Hook and Plow. In fact my first dine-in restaurant visit in the South Bay since reopening after COVID19. My party ordered the breakfast sandwich, roasted brussel sprouts, seared scallop cacio e pepe, cheeseburger with furikake fries. Meals were paired with the Paloma and Hayabusa Lager. Food was all prepared well and tasted delicious. Pricing is borderline from $$ to $$$. I would visit again if when the menu increases variety or rotates seasonally.
The Hook & Plow is in the beautiful and lively Riviera in Redondo Beach. It is walking distance from the beach. There are lots of good restaurants to choose from on the street. Parking is available but may take a minute to find a spot. They have plenty of indoor, patio and outdoor seating. The servers are always very nice and helpful. Stefanie is the sweetest! The food is delicious. A super cute beach themed seafood restaurant.
I loved everything about the hook and plow in Redondo! They made everything easy. We started outside with a party of 7,then it got cold so they moved us to the indoor patio with no problem. Everyone loved the drinks as well. Okay so I had the short rib and I think it was African lobster tail and I loved every bite of my dinner

We love this Riviera area in Redondo Beach. The food at the Hook & Plow is excellent and the patio is so fun. We'll be back for sure.
First time here for me and my girlfriend. We came for apps and dessert. Ordered the half dozen oysters and clam chowder and she got the arugula salad with peaches and burrata. Food was all very good. For dessert we ordered an apple and peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream that was out of this world. It was a nice night so we sat outside. Decor was very modern. We throughly enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely come back.

Combo prices for lunch are a great deal. The burger and poke are delicious, the fries are well seasoned, and the salads are fresh. The outdoor see seating is great and they have heaters as well. Service is excellent.
Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - ordered the Hook & Plow Benedict with smoked salmon, two poached eggs, brava crispy potatoes, marinated capers, and hollandaise sauce. The smoked salmon was quite salty, the potatoes a bit bland, and the capers quite sour. So if I got a bite of everything, it was fairly good but it was a bit difficult to hunt for the tiny capers and ensure that the ratio of salmon to potatoes were perfect. Service: 5/5 - we arrived just after 10:00 as they were still setting up. Once ready, they immediately greeted us and let us pick any seat that we preferred. He gave us his full attention with no urgency so we were able to just enjoy our meal and chat. Ambiance: 5/5 - we sat outside on a beautiful Saturday morning with some holiday decorations. It was quiet, so it was easy to have a conversation! Value for price: 3/5 - great atmosphere so it was the perfect place to hang out and catch up. Unfortunately, not the best meal at $20+ per dish for some smoked salmon tossed on potatoes.
Hook & Plow in Redondo Beach delivers a delightful dining experience with its farm-to-table philosophy and warm, welcoming atmosphere. Operated by twin sisters Lisa and Lauren Cassity, this family-run restaurant group has grown from its first Hermosa Beach location 10 years ago to four locations today. Their commitment to sourcing seafood, meats, and produce locally and organically is evident in the quality of the food, which is made from scratch and reflects the changing seasons. We visited on a vibrant Friday evening and were lucky to snag an outdoor table with heating, thanks to our wonderful server. She even brought our dog a grilled chicken treat, which was such a thoughtful touch! The menu, while concise, offers a well-curated selection of dishes. We started with the burrata salad, which featured fresh arugula and a hint of vinaigrette—a perfect balance of creaminess and zest. For our main, we had the short ribs, served with smooth mashed potatoes. The flavor was outstanding, though the short ribs could have been slightly more tender. The Redondo Riviera’s lively ambiance added to the experience, making it an enjoyable evening of good food and a great setting. Hook & Plow is a solid choice for casual fine dining with a local, seasonal twist. We’ll definitely be back to explore more of their menu as the seasons change!
Date night brought us to the Hook and Plow. We planned on dining in Manhattan Beach but I'm pleased that we decided to head to Redondo beach instead. Place is quite small indoors but they do have outside seating with plenty of room. Our dining experience here was great.... great staff, great food, overall was the perfect Saturday night for us. Only downfall.... Parking. We drove around a few times before finding a parking spot. We have decided that we are going to try every single eatery located at Riviera Village so I'm definitely looking forward to that!
After a long morning hike we decided to dined here. It was lunch time so I understand that it was busy and our host apologized also they are very busy. I told him that I'm glad they are busy and he took our order. I knew there will be some wait but I was expecting our drinks delivered first while we waited but nope. 43 minutes later, food came. Salad was ok..at least got my omega 3. But..where our drinks? Our server came by like 20 minutes later asking if anything is ok..told him we need our drinks. He apologized and came back with drinks. Check came and they didn't charge the coffee because they forgot about it but they charge my sprite which they shouldn't charge also.
The food’s pretty good. Staff are really nice. And it has a great atmosphere, outdoor seating/patio. Good happy hour specials. If there’s any complaint, it’s that the fish dishes lean too heavily toward salmon, and lots of dishes are too laden with cheese.

Sat outside, nice weather. Sidewalk tables with umbrellas. Server attending good service, pleasant. Ordered grilled chicken sandwich option for fries, salad extra cost . I chose neither. The chef must've felt bad that there was nothing else on my plate so there was 2 tiniest gerkins I ever saw , probably less than an inch . So cute . The sandwich on a bun was huge. I liked the chicken breast was flattened and there were 2 in the sandwich, with tomato , lettuce, special sauce. Very good . And filling. Street metered parking, good weather to walk!
We were visiting our Granddaughter and her fiancé and decided to try somewhere new. It was a Sunday and we decided to try The Hook and Plow for lunch. A table inside was available. They had a DJ outside and it was a bit too loud to have a conversation, so we opted for inside. Our server was attentive and friendly. Our food was excellent. Fresh. I had a salad. My husband had a burger. Other than the loud music, which made us have to use our outside voices inside, it got hot. No air-conditioning. It's a small dining area, which made it feel intimate. We enjoyed our lunch but couldn't linger any longer. Too warm. Would we go back? Probably not. The food and service was wonderful but the atmosphere wasn't conducive to conversation.
I insisted on this place & brought my friend here to celebrate my birthday. I've been here many times and never disappointed. Today I was disappointed. We waited forever for our food. Our waiter barely checked on us. A different (rude) waitress tried to give another table our food, we were right there - she took the food back to the kitchen. By the time our waiter brought our food, my burratta salad was soggy, the steak was cold, barely any balsamic, etc. My friend's ahi sandwich was served on extremely greasy bread. She's definitely not coming back, I will give them a chance to redeem themselves. I've always loved their food.

This used to be my go to place for date night with my husband, celebratory dinner spot, etc. I went specifically for the baked chicken dish. It was my absolute favorite. Even after the price went up, because I understood they had to make adjustments for the losses during the lockdown. For some reason, this winning dish was taken from the menu and replaced with another chicken dish that is sad in comparison. Instead of fresh sourdough, there are croutons. And the leek cream is minimal. It makes for a very salty addition to the tobacco glazed chicken. And to be honest it's not as attractive. We asked if there was a new chef and/or why they removed the dish and they told us no new chef and it was removed because it was too dry. The new chicken dish was dry. Even the spicy cucumber drink I used to get is gone and replaced with another that is too spicy. We have tried other dishes and found them to be bland. It's not the servers fault so we don't make a fuss. We still love the clam chowder and the ambiance, but they're not enough of a reason to spend $200+. I'm sad because I loved going to this place and it was always my choice when my husband asked for suggestions, but after the last 3 visits I just can't suggest it again. 😢
Came on Saturday night for dinner around 6:30/6:45ish. Was told we couldn’t sit inside as there was going to be a private event in there. That was fine as the weather was nice so we sat outside. At around 7:10 after we had placed our drink and starter order, our waitress told us that the restaurant was closing at 8pm so we had to put in our main food order and be out by 8. At no point when the person seated us told us this otherwise we would have gone to another restaurant. We didn’t want to rush dinner so went to another restaurant. We felt this was really poorly handled by the restaurant and just some basic communication would have prevented this.
Cute spot a block or so inland from the Hermosa Pier. Came here with a friend on a Monday evening around 7pm, and had no reservations. We were seated immediately. Indoor and patio dining with heating lamps available. Credit cards accepted. QR code menu. It’s good for big groups, and is kid-friendly. Food-wise, I wish they had more of their lunch options available for dinner, but the food overall was alright. I think the dishes could’ve been more flavorful, but on the positive side, the waitress we had was friendly and it was nice to have some al fresco dining. Brussel sprouts - a generous amount of brussel sprouts; note that there’s no char, and I typically prefer mine to be more crispy Furikake Fries - get these - you don’t really get a furikake flavor, but the fries are just the right amount of crispy Poke - the sauce could’ve used more flavor, but the fish itself was good. Panko avocado - this was interesting, it’s breaded half pieces of avocado (total of 4 pieces atop arugula)

This place has good food, a little pricy however you’re paying for the atmosphere which is amazing. Giving it a two star as our server was not great. Got order wrong. Service was painstaking slow. Slow w everything. Didn’t get anything that we asked for. Had to go find her multiple times because it was so slow. Came for a birthday she didn’t put candles despite asking her. Just forgot everything. Just awful she had no awareness. Worst part is they just add 20% gratuity automatically.
When did they start blasting club music all dinner but oddly during Sunday lunch? Its kind of terrible and annoying to the neighborhood and other restaurants. I like the food but.....i wouldnt go back on a sunday or to any of the neighboring restaurants.
They have outdoor seating and the owners think that they should have privacy out in public? This is what is wrong with restaurants like this they have outdoor seating and expect the public space to be private, doesn't work that way, seen they sent out an employee to stand in front of a video recorder and hassle him, uncalled for, just do your job and stop being Karen's, hook and plow more like Karen's and Fire starters, I'd suggest if you want privacy when you eat, don't eat outside in a public setting. I'll never give this business any of my hard earned money, respect we the people's rights! BetterTraining for employees needed!
Not a good experience. My boyfriend took me for Valentine’s Day. We were happy because it was our first time going to this location and the place wasn’t too crowded for a holiday. For the place having a moderate crowd the service was horrible. We ordered 4 appetizers and 2 main dishes. It took about an hour to receive all of our appetizers and we never received our main dishes. By this time it was well over an hour of waiting and my boyfriend was over it so he asked for the check. When the waitress never came back I asked the hostess to help us. The waitress Stefanie V. finally came over and gave us the check, which had the main dishes Jidori chicken and Seabass that we never received. We called this out and the waitress reason for us not receiving our food was because the ticket for our food was nowhere to be found in their kitchen. As a server it’s her responsibility to check that the flow of food and service is going well. After pushing back she took the main dishes off our bill. This was a disappointing experience to have a waitress who gave lack luster service and on what was such an important day to us. The whole ordeal took almost two hours, we left frustrated and still hungry. We will never go back to this restaurant again.
