El Chico's seems to be our go to restaurant when we can't decide we're to eat. I always get the 2 beef enchilada. I'm one of the people that cilantro taste like soap. So I ask that cilantro not be on top of my rice.
Update 2/2024. We went for lunch and got fajitas. They were excellent. Still a great place to go to. I recommend this location for good food and good service! 5 ⭐ This place has gone through a lot of changes over the years. I think it is much better today. They have a newer, better menu with a larger variety of choices.
It's been awhile since my last visit and I'd say they place is alot better. Caso was good quesdilas were delicious. Salas is alright. Waiter was awesome he was never far and payed attention to us. Not cheap but not too expensive. Booth seats were a little worn but still comfortable. Definitely coming back soon
Gre a t food clean friendly service
Been eating at El Chico for 40 years and the quality is still outstanding. The manager was incredibly pleasant and it was yet another wonderful experience. Can't wait to go back.
My husband and I decided to have a late lunch at El Chico's today even though we haven't been here for many years. So glad we did! Everything was wonderful! The food was tasty and hot and the service was EXCELLENT! Henry made us feel so welcome and took great care of us from the moment we walked in the door. My husband and I both had the Wednesday enchilada special which was a great price at $6.99. I also love that their lunch menu is served until 5:00pm. Honestly, the special brought us in, but the food and service will bring us back. So glad we decided to try this El Chico again. We will be back.
Hands down the best service and food in the metroplex!
Incredible! Phenomenal! Can’t say enough great things about this place! The food is absolutely delicious. The staff is overly friendly and helpful. Dale, their cook of 30 years, came out and met us. Everything was super clean. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough! We will definitely be back and we live in Lubbock, 5 hours away! Thank you to the entire staff (especially Blanca and Dale) for the hospitality!
Excellent! We have been stopping here on and off for 35 years. We would dine here more often, but it is way out of our way. The parking lot is free of debris, clearly marked for parking, and well maintained without potholes. The small amount of landscaping there is, is beautifully kept. We were seated quickly, and greeted by our server quickly. Our drink orders were filled along with a basket of fresh chips and cups of delicious salsa. The food order was accurately taken. Our eyes feasted as a beautiful tray of food arrived. We ate til we couldn't eat more. So good! We worry they may be struggling due to the construction right outside their parking lot. Many people have been working here for over 20 years. Can't let anything happen to change that. We will be back as often as possible.
This restaurant is so nicely decorated and so clean. We had a fantastic waiter. He was both friendly and attentive yet very quick and busy. The food was fantastic! I had the avocado enchilada which was gourmet and stuffed to the brim with avocados and mushrooms and Jack cheese. Very good value for the money!
This was a very plesnt visit, and good food. We had an excellent host too bad. I didn't get her name to thank her.
The manager here is very good. Though I've never actually dined in- I have visited to check out the party room & my husband has also ordered to-go. Each time I've dealt directly with the manager & he has been great. He has great attention to customer service - very friendly & willingness to work with you. Definitely a well run facility. Plus, the food is delicious!!!!
I've eaten here twice, both experiences were positive. The staff was what really stood out. We had two different waiters, both seemed to have been employed here for some time. All of the staff seemed happy, cheerful and welcoming. The drinks were great. I recommend the frozen piña coladas and strawberry margaritas. My sister likes the chips and queso. The salsa is nice too.
Better than some places. Took some time to get my desert . Overall I got my money worth.
!Other restaurants' spinach enchiladas do not compare. These are absolutely delicious. Their charro beans are perfection. The one thing I'd change is the salsa. It's too garlicky for my taste, and it's icy cold. Still, this is a small concession to make for the enchiladas and beans. It's become our favorite Tex-Mex cafe!
The service is always super friendly. The food so far has been excellent. I'm surprised that people still have low prices like this. The low price and excellent food and friendly staff are why we keep going back.
Food is always amazing and delicious. The ribs are one of my favorites! Tender, meaty, juicy and just the right amount of seasoning and spice . I have never had a bad meal or experience at the Richland Hills location. The staff is always friendly and we have never had to wait for anything . If you want some delicious ribs be sure and swing by 😊
What great, fresh and delicious food! The drinks were spot on too! The guacamole made table side was devoured with their chips( that kept getting replenished without asking) Food portions were above average and we even mentioned a free appetizer promo with our room key and were able to pick which we'd like without limitations. Friendly service from the moment you walk in the door. Awesome place!
If you love Tex-Mex, you can't go wrong at El Chico. Great Food and Margaritas, I wish the decor wasn't so modernized though.
Food was fine, not the best I've ever had but a great deal for the price. The service was phenomenal. Definitely coming back
Have been here several times for the ribs. They are truly some of the most tender and tasty ribs. The employees are always very friendly and definitely a great amount of food for the money! I will be back again.
Everytime I've been here (during the week) it is not very busy so it has a calm atmosphre. My Favorite is their Chicken enchiladas. They also have the best apple pie, it comes wirh icream and an amazing sauce over the top. The parking isnt too bad. The servers are friendly. This place definatly desrves more buisness!
This place has really up’d their menu. Love the food and great prices. Service just needs a little help. Overall can’t complain.
today is May 31, 2025 my sister and myself went into this location to eat lunch and an amazing young lady by the name of ANCHAL gave us wonderful customer service she was very attentive she made sure that everything was refilled on our drinks and asked if there was anything else that we needed we need more people like her working in the fast food industry and she always had a beautiful smile on her face no matter what even she laughed at my corny jokes
Our favorite Mexican restaurant. Love the chicken and mushroom enchiladas.
I really can't say enough great things about this restaurant conveniently located The staff loves their patrons the food is amazing I love this place I have been going here for 20 plus years Eddie or no manager owner I don't know how that works he has been with this place since I can remember and I've been going here for 20 plus. There's a reason I keep going back
Food was great service was great and the waitress was very good her name is Maria
we came in today in this busy and Maria did an excellent job and on top with anything that we needed with the brightest smile .
I come here for lunch once a week. I always get the same thing because I really like it. Never seems to take more than 5 minutes to get my food. Chicken fajita burrito bowl. Just enough to fill me up and really tasty. I like to eat it as dip with the complimentary chips & salsa they serve with your meal. Server is always attentive and friendly.
The service was great and so was the food. The margheritas were tasty too. Definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner.
Luckily they were opened this evening and we were able to enjoy their Enchilada Special. The platters came out hot and the food was freshly prepared. The service was comforting and accommodating. During these dire times because of the looming pandemic, it's great to visit a nice and clean establishment. We thoroughly enjoyed this visit and look forward to returning soon.
Food was amazing, I got the chicken breast stuffed with shrimp. The waitress was kind, efficient and informative. What it lacks in atmosphere it made up with the food and service!
Love this place been going for manyany years it was different with yet another remodel but the food still coming out the same great everytime.
Oh my! Tex-Mex fare is always on my list of choices but these folks made my day when I found out that I can also mex it up BBQ style! Brisket tacos? Yes, please, may I have another! Ribs? One more slab, please! Set it right next to my combo fajitas! (Yes combo - try the chicken, its delicious!) Only 1 WARNING: the Top-Shelf Guac & Queso speak a love language that says, "more, more, more,"... be sure to leave room! Job well done to all the staff. I could not have been more satisfied with everything I ate. Outstanding!
Our family has been dining at El Chico for over 50 years, starting in Shreveport, LA. It was so fun and nostalgic to eat there today. The food and salsa was just as we remembered. The carrot, onion and jalapeño relish was a treat too!!! Karen, our server, was the best!! We will be back!!
Wow! Hadn't been here in thirty years and everything is still as great as it was then! We came tonight and had great food, and really great service! The Thursday Mucho platter was all you can eat and an excellent deal. Our server Achel was fantastic! We are so happy to be back and look forward to coming again soon!
I've been to many Mexican food restaurants all over and I have to say I am SO glad we decided to pop in to El Chico and check it out. The place is super clean, the service was excellent and the entire staff was friendly. The selection was excellent and everything in the menu looked good. The prices were great comparable to most any other place. I had the two-burrito plate with taco and my wife had the enchilada plate. Nice presentation on the food. I have to say the burritos were amazing and it was the BEST taco I've ever had. I've had thousands all over the place and these are top of my list. And the deciding factor for most Mexican food fans....the salsa was excellent! I hate that it's across town from us, but we won't hesitate making the drive for their food again! A+++
My boyfriend and I have been coming to this El Chico location for years, and it holds a lot of nostalgia for him. He has fond memories of going with his uncle and dad when he was younger, and every visit still carries that same comforting, familiar feeling. The food is cost-effective and consistently satisfying. Especially the chile con carne enchiladas, which are always a standout. I usually like to mix things up and often go for one of the combination plates, which never disappoint. On our most recent visit, I ordered the enchiladas with a chile relleno, and it was excellent. The cheese had the perfect pull, the chile was just the right level of heat, and everything came together exactly how you want a classic comfort dish to taste. Beyond the food, the atmosphere feels like stepping into a piece of Dallas history, and that’s part of what keeps us coming back. It’s a reliable spot for good food, fair prices, and a dose of nostalgia especially if you grew up coming here or appreciate classic Tex-Mex.
Food was great! It had been many years since eating at an El Chico. Excellent! Muy bueno comida....
We got to-go. Food was delicious. Just as if you were sitting down. The waitress was nice. Would definitely go back.
The food is always tasty and plentiful and the service attentive and cheerful. Their tortilla soup is served with the the soup makings in the bowl and you pour the broth on yourself - it is incredibly good. One thing I love, love, love about this place is it is quiet enough to have a conversation while dining. A large part of enjoying a good meal is being able to enjoy the people you're dining with. That's hard to do if you spend the meal hollering at each other or being distracted by half a dozen tv screens like you have to do in many places.
Karen and the ENTIRE staff at this El Chico location is absolutely stellar! Our food was amazing and the desserts are even better than I remembered. This gem of a spot should be a frequent stop in your dining schedule.

I love the sour cream chicken enchiladas \nI had them in Texas!\nCan't find it anywhere else!
Love their food. Mondays is taco day great choices of tacos. Great margaritas. Waiters and waitresses are great.
Great combination today, El Chico's and Cinco de Mayo! Food was awesome, service was fast and they even had live music tonight.
We have been to this location many times and continue to be impressed. Is it absolutely amazing? No. But it is dependable and tasty food for some of the best prices around! You seriously can't beat…

We ate lunch here today and was pleasantly surprised. The food was served hot, plentiful and very good.
I enjoy their food, it's one chain that hasn't went downhill food quality wise. However we went on lunch break and it took over 30 minutes to get our food. We were in a hurry, which I'm sure is common during lunch hour, and I barely had any time to eat and ended up taking most to go. I understand there are labor shortages everywhere and probably here too, but i wish they would have warned us. Our to go order, which I placed at the same time as our other order, didn't arrive until 45 minutes later and I was ready to walk out the door rapidly.
Update Dec 2024: Returned as promised and we still love the food. I had the Chicken Monterey and it was delicious. Jay was our server and he was wonderful too. First time here and will return for sure. I ordered the combos which came with taco, enchilada and burrito. Jason, our server, was wonderful. Prices were reasonable too.
It was a short wait, the chips were cold BUT they’re still very good
I got the queso blanco, that was good. How can you mess up queso dip though. I ordered the chile relleno. It's not on the menu but I asked and glad I did. I got it with cheese and Ranchera sauce along with a side of rice. It was all really good. The pepper was breaded a little thick but it tasted good. And the ranchera sauce was super tasty. I had a strawberry margarita, that was ok. I wouldn't get it again. Maybe just a beer next time. One thing I didn't like was service was a little slow. I think if one more server is needed on deck.
Today was my first day trying the chicken fajita burrito bowl and it was quite repulsive. The picture on the menu made it seem so appealing but the taste was very disappointing. As far as the service and the atmosphere it was really nice. However they can improve on the chicken fajita burrito bowl.
Been eating here for years. Always good food and service.
Went because of nostalgia! My first job was a busboy at El Chico in the '70s.Menu items were different but very good.Got the Valentine Day special of fajita combo alot of food for the price which was reasonable.Server and other staff were friendly.
A family member's favorite spot. Food is always good, service can be hit or miss. Easy to dine and have a conversation - there is music playing and TVs are on, but you can carry on a conversation at the tables without interference. Personal favorites - Old fashioned tacos, Monterrey chicken, chicken mushroom enchiladas, Avocado enchiladas 🤤 The only food caution I have is on the brisket tacos - I assumed brisket tacos would be shredded, but it's more like mini cubed. Flavor was good, but the texture was off putting.
Don't believe a recent negative review, obviously written by an employee of Mi Pueblo (which is terrible). The restaurant was NOT full of elderly people, nor did it smell bad. Our server was friendly and attentive and I loved seeing the manager, Dale, helping run food and take care of guests. Above average service. The restaurant was clean and only smelled like food. 😆 The chips were warm and crispy. The salsa was fresh tasting with a pleasant building heat that I would rate a 1 heat and my gf called a 2. We ordered the quesadilla circulo salad, burrito bowl with "crispy" pork, and had the hot skillet apple pie ala mode for desert. Neither of the main dishes was perfect, but both were well above average. The chicken on the salad had been grilled previously and then chilled. That's always a mistake. It makes the chicken dry out, and this was no exception. Grill a breast fresh and serve it hot on the cold salad. The balsamic sesame chipotle dressing was good but odd, Asian flavor for a southwest salad. The burrito bowl was tasty, but the pork was not "fried crispy" as the menu describes. It was more like carnitas. The wine chipotke dressing was good and different from most restaurants. The apple pie was delicious. La Hacienda Ranch still wins on this desert, but El Chico s is definitely wonderful. We will definitely add this place to our Tex-Mex options list.
I stopped by for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! They staff were super friendly and they seated us immediately. My mother ordered a raspberry mule, and it was absolutely amazing. It was very well made and a bit on the strong side. We both ordered off the lunch menu and were surprised by how large the portions are. We got the lunch fajitas and the enchilada taco plate. The rice was a bit puffy for my liking, and the salsa was a bit like tomato sauce, but that was my only complaint. Everything was well priced, and it was pretty tasty. It's hard to find a good restaurant in this area, so I highly recommend it!
Good food and good service. They were a little crowded when we arrived, but we still got our food quickly.

Great food. I grew up eating at El Chico. The atmosphere is nice. The service has 2 parts, Part 1) Our server was not attentive to our needs as far as not refilling drinks and did not seem to care to be there in general. Part 2) A lady waitress constantly checked on us as far as drinks, food and happiness. I wish I would have gotten her name as she deserves a BIG thank you for picking up our waiter's slack.
Well, I'm going to rate this an overall 3. It could go either way. If you are an older crowd. Your going to love it. I think of it as the mexican Luby's. It's old outdated and the food is so so. Not much taste. No sald added I think, so it is great for older folk. If your a younger crowd, your not going to like the atmosphere. Its 70s outdated and not worth the money. Now, the service and employees was excellent!! Fast service, everything you ask for. Drinks were always full. Sorry no photos because it really wasn't worth it.
Ordered fajitas for 2 and a side of cheese enchiladas. Order came out almost immediately. Enchiladas were barely warm; grated cheese on top never melted. Beef fajitas could have been pulled from a pot, no browning or searing to them like I usually expect from beef fajitas.
Wayyy too hot, so we stopped here for margaritas...only like 3 to 5 cars, but we sat at the bar almost 10mins before being waited on(There was no wait, I think they may have been short staffed). Chips and salsa were given and we ordered 2 20oz margaritas (Strawberry and Line)-with TO GO OPTION! They weren't strong at all, but tastes good...
I absolutely hate when the staff is super nice but the food is disappointing. We have lived in the area for many years and finally decided to give this place a try. For starters their salsa is very bland. I ordered The Caballero Combo. Like most other reviews, my food was literally room temperature almost cold. You can tell by the unmelted cheese. The enchiladas were okay. The burrito was just a cold tortilla filled with ground beef and topped with cheese. Reminded me of school food. The boys got steak fajitas. The steak was tender and flavorful however the skillet was not hot. It didn’t char the onions. I say “onions” because it was mostly onions with 2 small pieces of green bell pepper. Their pico was also mostly onions. We ended with a “fried ice cream”. Imagine soft serve ice cream with chocolate syrup served in a fried tortilla bowl covered with cinnamon sugar. I don’t think we will be back.
Enchilada Wednesday! Service was great. Good was to fast. Enchiladas were served, cold tortillas wrapped around cheese with canned sauce poured over. Warm tortillas were cold. Butter would not melt. Our waitress was great but the food was a total waste of time and money.
Typing this as I sit here, surrounded by senior citizens that smell like they poo’d their pants, eating retirement home quality food that tastes like the poo in their pants. If you’re over 65 and think ketchup is too spicy, this is the place for you. If you like real food, head down the street to Mi Pueblo.
I grew up eating at ElChico’’s. My family loved everything they served, but all the restaurants near us closed. We were thrilled to find an ElChico’s 400 miles from home and drove there. It smelled bad, but we stayed. The staff was very friendly. The queso was thin, tasted ok. The tortillas were hard and dry; inedible. The hot vegetables were delicious. The cheese enchilada was bad. It had unmelted shredded cheese inside it. My sour cream chicken enchilada was terrible. The chicken looked and tasted like it had ground chicken mixed with ground beef.the tiny bit of sour cream sauce on top was horrible. Needless to say, we will not return.
I waited at the bar for my "to go" order. The top of the bar was sticky! I explained the details of my order and it was placed. Henry asked if I'd like a drink and i agreed to a glass of tea. I expressed my needing a detailed receipt due to the order was for 3 people and that the total would be split on our own. He gave me the credit card receipts and forgot the detailed receipt. I reminded him and waited. He brought it to me and i left. Fyi: $10.00 tip was left! Got home and food was COLD. The rice was a bit hard. Two orders were the same and both of my friends said it tasted terrible! My order was good except for the side garnish!?! It had a bit of spinach in garnish! I had avocado enchiladas, Spinach doesn't go! Even the chips were cold! We live 2 miles away!
This is an old location, so not fancy, but it's well maintained and comfortable. I had an enchilada plate, one each beef, cheese, chicken. All the enchiladas were not very good. The tortilla was tough and not much stuffing. The sauces were bland. The rice and beans were tasteless. The rice was dry. The server was good, efficient and friendly.
2024-12-01 Went there for lunch. I must say... this place is a shadow of its former glory. Whereas, once there was hot meals, has since been replaced with varying degrees of cool. As for flavor? We ordered the beef and the cheese enchiladas. Very disappointed. The cheese sauce tasted like cardboard and the spices in the meat was .... what am I saying.... I could taste none. Service was mediocre, waited nearly 15 minutes for the check. No, they weren't busy.... there were only 4 tables. In the 90s, we went there several times a month. I can honestly say, we won't be back.
I've went there 3 times in the past month. The first 2 were great! I just went there mothers day. They were short staffed I understand but we had to keep asking for water and soda refills. I had to ask fir extra napkins twice. She got the steak fajitas 22.00 only enough for 3 wraps. I got the chimi combo 16.00 asked fir No sour cream sauce. He brought the food with the sauce all drizzled on it. I said I asked for none. He Saud he told the kitchen but they put it on anyway. I had the shape it off. As much as possible. Not happy ended up with a 53.00 bill. Also got the cup of queso 7.00 very watery. I dint know what happened but definitely dissatisfied and disappointed. And she wanted to go to on the border And I talked her into El Chico.
My dad and I have been coming to El Chico all my life. I think it was his first job in Dallas, in the mid/late 60s. Over the years it's gone from a local staple to "oh, they're still open?". This location is one of the few I still visit with him from time to time, but we both agreed this was probably our last visit. There wasn't one awful thing that ruined the meal, just a lot of little things that made us question why we would return. For one, when you see a mostly empty restaurant at 7pm on a Sunday, you don't expect to get seated right next to one of the only other occupied tables. The whole dining room had a strong odor of cleaner. Then when the server introduces himself by telling you he's still in training, you know you're in for an experience. Everything was an ordeal to get from the server to the table. We had to ask for every little thing, from sugar and lemon for tea, more chips, etc. Then the orders came out and were just average. The steak nachos I had just had fajita meat dumped on top like an afterthought and not very much of it, maybe one piece per nacho. Both dinners were lukewarm.
Food not fresh. Omtoday I got cold chicken and last time. I do not recommend When I complained the distress asked if she should bring it sepa6suvvezgknv that the salad made it cold. No, thank you

I was meeting some friends for a ladies lunch but was showing up late, so I was just going to have a drink. When I showed up, everyone was ordering and I only ordered a margarita. We waited for a solid 30 minutes before we started to ask about the drinks. Not just the one I ordered, but there were 3 other drinks ordered, as well. Waitress apologized and said she was going to make them herself. Did another 15 minutes we watched and there wasn't even anyone behind the bar. Then the food came. Still no drinks... Not even water. Two dinners were extremely small portion and cold. The other plate was completely wrong and the last plate, the steak was so raw, it was still cold. We brought the waitress back over there. She knew the one plate was wrong, she apologized again. We asked about the drinks again and she didn't know. So, at this time, we don't want the drinks, we don't want our food, we only wanted the manager. Well, come to find out, the manager was who was behind the bar. Needless to say, three people didn't eat, four people didn't get their drinks and it was the most complete, up most disgrace to service. I won't be back to the Richland Hills El Chico.
Other sever's are standing around chatting with eachother instead of giving food to people. took FOREVER to get a refill on ONE drink! So bad we had to leave early before the food arrived:/
This El Chico location was an incredibly gringo version of Tex-Mex food. While we were there our waitress didn't get some of our order right, but luckily the manager helped fix it. The waitress also kept calling me lady instead of ma'am, a little awkward when she asked if I needed anything else. The flour tortillas looked and tasted store bought with a waxy texture. The rice didn't taste authentic or fresh. Additionally, the charro beans didn't have much flavor either. The only thing that was pretty good was the free chips and salsa. We've been to some of the other El Chico locations before the Cuellar family sold it, and I can see why they left when they did.
We have not been in awhile, but we left because this place was a mess. Kitchen had a big party in side room and rest of restaurant was close to empty. A lady kept coming out to say kitchen has told us not to sit anyone for 15-20 mins, after that time passed she said kitchen said another 10 minutes. During all of this tons of people were just crammed into the wait area, she wouldn’t take names or preferences. When did kitchen start managing front of house? Sit people so they can get a drink and disability and elderly are not having to stand for 30 minutes, then you tell them kitchen is backed up so it will take longer than normal. We ended up walking out and going to another Mexican restaurant. Not sure I will be back because it was a disappointing experience.
Very disappointed. We would eat here once a week until last Feb when the husband left for Denver to help his son. We loved this place. That is until tonight. We were there for almost 2 hours. We kept seeing the tables next to us get there food and leave. The table next to us had to ask for their desert. Well that’s when we finally asked when our food was coming. Well our appetizer came out finally. That took 30 minutes. My husband was getting very upset at this point. She got an attitude when he asked what was taking so long. She said she just put in for our meals. Well……30 minutes goes by an finally we get our entrees. At that point I was not hungry anymore. She finally brought desert and I had to tell her I was done for the evening. The husband wanted to just leave. He went and talked to the bartender and she came over and somebody didn’t show for work. Well if they had mentioned that early on we would have left. Would not recommend anymore! This place has gone down hill for sure and nobody there seems to care.
Food quality- It tasted like it was sitting in the cooler just waiting for the day someone might want it. Tasted old. Like leftovers that had taken on another flavor. Service- Slow to refill drinks and then brought the wrong one. Portions- Very small. Almost like an appetizer amount. We heard the booth behind us having the same issues, the customer stated “No, we don’t need anything else, you’d never bring it anyway. “ Menu selection - Seems as if they are trying to have something for every one, but instead, it taste as if nothing for no one. I wish I could give negative stars. Absolutely will never come back.
No one on here is going to talk about the horrendous sewer smell when you walk in the door?!? It makes the food and drinks taste like sewer. It is so gross. I couldn't and wouldn't even eat. Fix this! Second time I have been since October and it smells like feces and is disgusting. Clean this place and fix the pipes!
The food was good when it finally got there.i don't usually leve a supper small tip, however she earned the $3 tip she got. They need a new manager. Do not go there. Sucks a lot.
We have been here a couple times and I usually just get tacos. Today I decided to get the Lunch Special “Siete”. Cheese Chimichanga with queso and a double order of rice. The Chimichanga was the WORST I had ever eaten. The cheese inside was just shredded cheese that wasn’t even melted and the deep fried tortilla was barely fried and still a little soggy. I voiced my concerns to the server, Maria, and she laughed but also said that she will tell her manager. No manager ever spoke to us to address my comment. I am highly disappointed in this experience. I can typically finish most foods that I eat but this was such a sad excuse for a chimichanga that I had no choice but to leave half of it for the garbage. That is where it truly belongs. This experience deserves a 1 Star rating. Pathetic.
Chips and tea were the best. Tortilla soup and chicken fajita salad was not worth the money, very poorly prepared for the price. I could of had a much better salad from Wendy’s.
Food the last time we went was really good. Brought my mom and dad while they where in town and we'll let just say the service and food was not what we had the first time. Wife and I wanted to share fajitas, the waiter suggested to do the fajitas for two. But he didn't say it was an extra $30. So we ended up paying for basically 2 separate fajitas opposed to obly paying the $32.. the amount of food that was brought out was NOT worth $60 for just that alone... when we obly got rice and some beans as extra? Not to mention the waiter spilled water on my father's lap. Not just a cup, a hole pitcher. Not that i wanted any thing but they couldve offers something you know? Really wanted the apple pie, but after that happend he wouldn't come back to the table... and when he finally did ask, we had already asked for the check. Really sorry experience for their first time.. if we go back I really hope it's better. But not sure I will after this..
“HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT” I have been eating at El Chico since I was a boy in 1980. El Chico has always been a great place to eat. I was very disappointed when I ate here because the fajita steak enchiladas had almost two cups of grilled onions and only a sprinkle of meat of two cheese enchiladas. The El Chico in Rockwall is very good and never disappoints. I live in Houston and haven’t eaten at El Chico in 4 years because there isn’t one in Houston. I won’t ever eat at this one again. The atmosphere was more live a dive bar, the chairs were sticky and it just isn’t somewhere you’d want to relax and have a good meal with friends or family. Sad but true!!
The electronic sign in the restaurant displays and different price for Tuesday fajitas than the actual price. Service was very slow. We decided to leave as it took so long to even place our order. Tried to talk to the owner/manager and he just walked away when we were trying to talk to him. We are long time customers who wont return again
Decent food. Adequate service not slow and the order was correct. Good The problem .. they let an older man (cannot say gentlemen as a Gentleman would never do this) come in with his DOG!! On a leash!! Obviously NOT a service animal And to make matters worse they let him up on the booth where he helped share the food!!! I am not sorry for saying this. I love and have 4 dogs in my home, but they do not belong in a restaurant! And I am all for service animals. Not “emotional support “ animals! Especially in a restaurant!! What makes it worse is the restaurant knew it and allowed it to happen! How many health code violations did that break?? Would I ever eat or go to a restaurant that makes me share a table with a dog?? HELL NO!! I don’t do that with my dogs at my own home! Never go back
This place is the exact same food and flavor as taco buano for an enflated price. If you are coming hear because you think you are geting an experience like EL PHOENIX OR MEXICAN INN LOOK ELSEWHERE
Man the server was good but when my husband brought the food home …. We will NOT return In response to why I deconstructed it: it was dry and inedible tortillas inside another tortilla with some thick yellow looking cheese inside and sautéed veggies. So I picked through it to try and salvage as much as possible to make a meal.
Ate here years ago and it wasn’t bad. We tried it for the $2 taco Monday. The service was great although it took forever for the food to come out. My buddy and I ordered the tacos. The meat portion was pretty good but the corn tortillas were awful! It tasted like they opened the package of tortillas from Walmart then threw the meat on them. I don’t think that they even attempted to heat them up. Sorry, but we won’t be back.
Think twice before you come here. My husband and I came for lunch and order the chicken tortilla soup and the cheese chimichanga. The cheese chimichanga platter so super bland to the point where my husband had to add bunch of salt just to taste it. And normally all of the ingredients of the dish are listed on the menu not here. They had listed as just cheese only and that wasnt the case at all it all jalapeños and very little cheese. No where on the menu does it say it contained jalapeños. My tortilla soup wasn't even hot is was lukewarm. My husband couldn't eat his meal and brought to the waitress attention and asked for the check. The first time she brought it out, it said $20.50. Then she took the check off the table and said oh if forgot to take my husband's dish off. We'll when she brought back the check the 2nd time the bill was now $25.40 and that was without my husband's meal. So that's a little fishy. Then, at the bottom of our check it had a different price for cash and a different price for card. No signs are posted anywhere saying that they charge more to cover the cc fees versus if you pay cash and it doesn't say it anywhere on the menu or receipt. When my husband questioned them about it they got defensive and said that it was a discount for paying cash. No it's not at all, it's a scam to get people to cover the credit card fees that the restaurant doesn't want to cover. Ask me and my husband how we know all about any of these, after we've been in the restaurant/hospitality industry for a combined 40yrs..
