Little unassuming Italian spot that has the BEST risotto in the greater Richmond area. The mushroom risotto is buttery, glossy, and perfect texture. I would come back for this dish alone. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Super clean and would highly recommend
Super charming Italian spot! Came here for an early lunch with a friend one random Saturday and couldn't have been more pleased with our church! Delicious home made pasta - I got the pasta special, which was a spinach pasta with a light sauce with cherry tomatoes. Perfectly balanced flavors. Also very filling, especially after the warm bread and butter, so we did not have room for dessert, but I definitely want to come back and try the sweets menu! We sat at a booth, but there was plenty of seating, including additional seating that I didn't get a picture of since we just stayed at the front. Would definitely be able to accommodate a group. Wonderful service as well. Would recommend for families as well as couples looking for a romantic spot to get away. It's a lovely space.
Went here for Valentine’s Day! Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The Veal was excellent and portions were large. Parking was easy. Reservations are strongly recommended. We will return!
This place is a gem. The service was fantastic, the food came out quickly, and was delicious. Very good recommendations from our server. The atmosphere is warm and inviting while also feeling very well put together. I can here for a first date and we both had an amazing time. Also the owner drives a CitiCar which he proudly parks out front (as he should!) need I say more??
YUM!!! this place is incredible! the bread was soft on the inside with a great crunch, the portions were huge, and the pasta was fresh! service was attentive and friendly. the eggplant parm was out of this world, as was the sausage ravioli and the cheese tortellini. i want to come back and try the entire menu! couldn’t recommend enough!
Staff was very attentive, food was amazing and very beautiful Christmas decorations. We also checked out their new mini market next door and picked up some fresh Christmas cookies.
Great food and very healthy portions. Recommend
This is my new favorite lunch/dinner spot. Authentic Italian dishes freshly prepared, locally sourced ingredients, perfectly seasoned !!! The staff is knowledgeable about every aspect of the menu. Great atmosphere and perfectly prepared drinks at the bar. This was the total package. Bread and salads were the perfect compliment to our entrees. The shared LIMONCELLO CAKE finished out the meal! Extremely clean and professional environment.
Wow! My wife and I visited here for dinner in November 2023 for the first time. We had a great course style dinner including appetizers and dessert. On top of that they provide you with a hot bread starter and side salad with entrees. They provide butter, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and chili oil as condiments to dip with your bread. Food and service were both great. As for the entree quality nothing was too salty or too sweet.. just balanced really well. Pictured are our appetizers, side salads, entrees and dessert. Bruschetta (Classic) Pumpkin ravioli (seasonal special) Seafood risotto Limoncello and mascarpone cake
Best Italian food in the area! Owners are friendly and welcoming. Warm bread and focaccia to pick on while you wait. I ordered the crab and spinach pasta to go which sold me on this place. The vodka sauce is perfect not to creamy. My husband and I went for dinner without a reservation, they were able to squeeze us in. Your better off making a reservation if you go during regular dinner hours. We ordered from the fresh seasonal menu. I can’t wait to try the other options!
This was my cousin and my first time here and everything from entering the building to the ease of ordering was spectacular! We did have some recommendation’s from Chef Kristi on some wine pairings and they did not disappoint! We tried the GRECHETTO, which is a white wine and for my girlies and guys who love Sauvignon blanc or Pinot Grigio, you will love this!! We also tried the PINOT NERO and this was a hit!! I’m a red wine drinker and this was so smooth and full of flavor! We had the fried homemade mozzarella and the Parmesan risotto fries to start (thanks Chef) and they were perfect!! I ordered the Pappardelle with Sausage Ragu and instead of the salad I had the Pancetta and onion soup! The consistency, the flavor, the temperature of the soup, all perfect! The pasta was so fresh, the sausage had an amazing taste and the sauce was perfect! My cousin ordered the chicken Alfredo Alfredo and the chicken was seasoned perfectly!! The sauce to pasta ratio was spot on!! For dessert we had the limoncello marscapone cake and yall… the freshest, most moist slice of cake I’ve ever had! The flavor of the lemon was not too overpowering and it did not stand a chance on that table! 10/10 recommend!!
On a Saturday night between 6 PM to 7:30 PM, we couldn’t find a place to eat after tried two restaurants at the Stony Point Fashion Park and three restaurants at Libby and Grove. Found this place on Google with 4.7 stars review and they have tables available. Tables are six feet apart, all servers wear face mask. The food is amazing. Highly recommended.
Even though we weren’t able to eat here because we were a large group and they were crowded, the owner went ABOVE AND BEYOND to try to work something out with us. Even suggesting their sister restaurant and that she would personally call in the order for us. I seriously cannot wait to try this place in the future. If you are visiting or are in Richmond, you should support this amazing owner! Also I should mention it smelled fantastic inside. I’m sure the food is top notch! Update (9/19/24) - we finally were back in Richmond and got the chance to eat at Casa Italiana and it was as great as we expected. The fresh bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The creamy tortellini was filling and flavorful. I wish the sundried tomatoes were blended into the sauce rather than whole but I still loved it. I would even eat the kids pasta (which I appreciate them bringing that out with the adults salads.) We all enjoyed our Caesar salads which were well dressed and not overpowering of any specific flavor (not too garlicky). The jumbo shrimp scampi also hit the spot! Kristi (the owner) personally came back out of the kitchen to say hello and thank us for coming back after we weren’t able to eat last time. This is a must hit spot and we will make sure to come back when we are in Richmond!!
I found my new obsession! Hands down THE BEST Fettuccine Alfredo I have ever had in my life. Pasta was fresh, perfectly cooked, Alfredo sauce was absolutely magical! The flavor, the consistency, it's obvious that the best ingredients were used and it was cooked with precise intention. Service was also wonderful.
Excellent place for a date night. Service has always been attentive and offers great recommendations for entrees. One of the specials this time was the grilled strip steak with roasted baby potatoes, balsamic sauce, horseradish, and balsamic braised onions. It was a great choice!
Excellent food and service! I had lunch with friends, we were a party of 7 people with reservations. Our server was extremely helpful, friendly and the food was beautifully plated and delicious. Highly recommend!
Visited with family and had a great experience. Risotto fries for appetizer and was so delicious and unique. We each had different entrees: braised beef ravioli, gnocchi with meat sauce and chicken Alfredo. Each were fantastic! For dessert we had limencello cake with berries and mascarpone and cannelloni. Everything was fresh and homemade. Highly recommend!!
Visiting Richmond from Florida. This was an excellent Italian Restaurant and not too pricey. Service and food was impeccable 👌
I keep coming back!! It was great when I wrote this original review 6 years ago and it’s even better today. The people are wonderful and they truly know how to make amazing food! This is my favorite restaurant EVER, ANYWHERE!! Today’s visit included Roasted Tomato and Fennel soup, their homemade bread (you MUST try the roasted pepper infused olive oil!), and Pappardelle with Sausage Ragu. ALL were amazing as was the friendly and personal service provided by Paris! But then I’ve never ever had anything but a wonderful meal and wonderful service here. Please try it. I can’t imagine you won’t love and will plan to return. 2017…This is a great family with great values and they know how to do a restaurant! Linguini and white clam sauce is amazing! The meatballs are delicious! Chef Gaetano is just wonderful and his sister Kristi is a delight! Amazing all the way around!
I have been in Virginia since 4 months, moved from India. Having an Indian taste palette, I found the food very tasty. So far the best Italian food I had in 4 months. Loved the food. Would come back again with the family.
Definitely worth the drive from Virginia Beach. We were a party of 16 and they were able to accommodate us with no problem. Great food, service and overall vibe.
My wife and I order from here regularly through grub hub. It’s always so amazing. The food is the best and seems that it is cooked with good energy. Fresh and delicious. Always packed considerately.
This restaurant is absolutely wonderful. Chef Gaetano and the rest of the staff are so friendly and caring. I will continue to stop here every time I pass through Richmond. The rare signature dish "Spaghetti Al Formaggio" is worth the trip!
Family-owned and run Italian restaurant with excellent food and service! Went with a party of four on a weeknight (Monday) and we were cordially greeted by of the owners (Kristin), who seated us and provided transparency for the evening. Miles was our server and we all found him very courteous and professional, getting each of our orders correct. Appetizers of fried breaded zucchini and caprese with house-made mozzarella were delicious! House made gnocchi had the smoothest texture and great flavor with the meat sauce! The menu was very diverse, with plenty of vegetarian options. Ambiance was very inviting with comfortable seating, layered lighting and excellent design elements. Noise level was pleasantly low. Dress was casual to business in the dining room, and all were welcomed just as warmly. Thank you for a great evening La Famiglia!
It was a very nice place and the service was fabulous. We have never been here before but we were not disappointed. It's a small quaint restaurant but slightly elegant. If that makes sense. We would go back.
I recently visited Casa Italiana to celebrate my cousin’s 40th birthday, and the experience was incredible from start to finish. The atmosphere was perfect, and we lucked out with their $5 Monday wine special! A huge shoutout to our waitress, Patricia, who was phenomenal. She was incredibly attentive and went out of her way to be accommodating to the babies in our group, ensuring we all had a memorable time. The food was fantastic across the board. We ordered: • Appetizers: Mozzarella sticks and fried zucchini (both delicious). • Entrees: Eggplant Parmesan, Chicken Marsala, and Penne Vodka with Crab. • Highlight: The bread was served hot, fresh, and perfectly fluffy. The only minor note was that the Shrimp Scampi could have used a bit more seasoning, but everything else was a 10/10. I highly recommend giving this place a try!
My partner and I had dinner here last week and it was AMAZING. The seasonal drink I had was so tasty (I think it was called the white Christmas margarita). Our server, Keyera, was incredible. Friendly, helpful, and engaged in conversation when she was able to (she was also the bartender ended the evening). We had the special appetizer Brussels spouts which were delish. I ordered the scallops on the special and the risotto they came with was scrumptious, as were the scallops. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. I could’ve done without the walnut, but that’s because I have texture issues with food so next time, if I get it again, I’ll order it without the walnuts. My partner got the braised beef ravioli, which he said was tasty. He didn’t realize it came with red sauce but said the sauce was also tasty. We had the dark chocolate and pistachio bread pudding to go and it was very good as well. Oh, and the bread was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back!
The serving size was great and food was fresh and delicious. The Pastas and entrees come with bread and a good sized salad. The booths are very good sized for 4 or for 2 and they have good upholstery. The place has an upscale feel and it's pretty big. The price is a bit on the higher side for the area but the food taste, quantity and the experience tends to help cover it. Overall, we had a great experience.
Soup and calamari were excellent. The mushroom risotto was disappointing. No truffle taste at all although menu descriptions mentioned it.
Our reservations were at 6 pm. We were promptly seated. The server brought our water quickly and took the drink order promptly. We received the bread approximately 20 minutes after we were seated. Our appetizers were served after approximately an hour. The food was very good. My friend ordered a Cobb salad. I ordered asparagus and mushroom with polenta drizzled with balsamic vinegar. We were pleased with the meal. The server was very friendly. We didn't receive an explanation about the delay receiving our appetizers. There is a ~3 .5% upcharge for using a credit card.
This was our first visit and it most certainly won’t be our last. They are definitely 5 star worthy but I will explain why they got 4 from our experience. Let’s start at the beginning with our appetizers. Calamari is always a must. I just love the little tentacles and they served a bunch of them. I was thrilled because most of the time, you only get a few but this was a generous portion with lots of little arms. The second appetizer was the grilled octopus. This is where they lost a few points because the $17 tentacle over white beans was pretty tiny. It was tender and nicely cooked so we didn’t complain. For the mains, I got the bone in veal Parmesan and hubs got braised beef ravioli with a meatball added. My goodness, the veal was super tasty. The red sauce was very balanced. The meatball, Mmmm Mmmm. His ravioli was very good but I liked mine better. Served with fresh, hot bread and a spring mix salad. We were very pleased and we look forward to our next visit. The service was friendly and the foods were presented at their appropriate times. Just an all around great experience.
The service and food was excellent. We had reservations so we were seated quickly and we're able to sit outside. The outdoor patio is pretty small so if you want to sit outside you might want to put that request in your reservation. As you can see in the photos the plating is done very well.
It was fine. It wasnt mind blowing. The main reason i went there was for the cheese wheel. Apparently, it's only there when the manager is there. The portions weren't that big, and i didn't get much crab meat, but at least it was tasty. Another thing i didn't like was i ordered a drink but changed my mind in less than 5 mins. My server didn't want to take it off the bill before i even received the drink, so i ended up paying for it. At least it was pretty 🙃
I'm a little late writing this review, but was just thinking about how I'd like to visit Casa Italiana again after having such a good first experience. I attended a retirement party a few months ago, which was quite large and took up most of the dining room. Service was exceptional, no one ever wanted for a single thing. Our server was great at anticipating our needs and proactively delivered with flawless efficiency. The pasta is house made and delicious. If you've never had homemade pasta, you'll never return to a box one you try it. We chose from a limited menu since we had such a large group, but the options were diverse enough to satisfy all. See photos for some of the plates we had at my end of the table. Food and service deserve 5 stars; the reason for the 4 star rating is for the restroom issues that we experienced over the few hours we were there. There are two unisex restrooms and one was out of order shortly after our arrival, while the other was in total disarray and only usable in an emergency situation. I realize this may be due to the high volume of use and the staff may not have had a chance to visit between customers. This was in no way a deterrent to return and I hope to edit to 5 stars after my next visit. IG: @rationsandoldfashioneds
Had dinner here with friends earlier this week. Service was first rate: friendly, helpful and not intrusive. Food was tasty and served quickly.
My mom and I visited this place for a late lunch/ early dinner for the first time. The first impression was a little off since the host was asking servers if they wanted us as a table while we were within an earshot and all we heard was no because either they weren't on the clock yet or were going on break. It made it seem like we weren't really welcomed there. I do understand not wanting to work while on break or not on the clock. Just don't do be asking within range of where the customer can hear you. The guy who sat us ended up being our waiter, which he ended up being very good. Attentive and had good recommendations. The food was very good as well.
Rating: 3/5 Visited: Nov 14, 2025 (night before Richmond Half) Came here for a pre-race carb load before the Richmond Marathon weekend. I ordered the beet & burrata salad and the spaghetti aglio e olio (no meat). Service was shaky — my salad came out with bacon at first, and only after I pointed it out did they bring the correct one. Food was fine but nothing memorable. The beet salad was okay, the spaghetti was decent but not standout. Bread was offered, but overall flavors felt pretty average for the price. We sat on the patio since we had our dog, which I appreciated, though there were no outdoor heaters. All in all, a solid enough Italian option, especially if you need dog-friendly seating, but the execution and taste weren’t strong enough to rate higher. I’d give it another shot next time I’m in Richmond and update this rating if things improve.
Came here for the first time. My guest and I shared a bottle of the House Cabernet Sauvignon from Italy (Rimola; Veneto) along with a two appetizers and 2 entrees: The Casa Meatball and the Bruschetta Classica; The meatball came with two polenta sticks; crispy on the outside and deliciously smooth on the inside. The meatball which was topped with shaved parmesan had great flavor specially after taking a sip of the wine; the meatball was very light and smooth; you can slice thin pieces with a fork. The Bruschetta came with 5 Bruschette topped with mozzarella and garnished with a balsamic reduction. They had a lot of flavor and tasted fresh. Both entrees came with house salads that were plentiful. My guest ordered the Lasagna and said that it was the best Lasagna they've ever had. It was topped with a béchamel sauce and fresh herbs. I tried to take a bite but ended up taking several; it was exquisite. I had the Grilled Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and this is why this review received 3 stars. While the dish had good flavor, the pasta was clumped together. It broke when trying to separate it with a fork; it wasn't an enjoyable experience unfortunately. Although there were only 2 servers and a food runner, the service was okay; a little slow but we didn't mind specially with those huge appetizers and the house salads. I'm sure they are short on staff like everyone else during these difficult times. The place looks clean and cozy; very well suited if wanting to impress on a first date and not break the bank. I think the Fettuccini was just a misstep that night as everything exceeded expectations. I would definitely recommend this place and will revisit it.
This restaurant has an interesting set-up where you walk into an open room that serves as the bar area, with two booths sort of off to the side along the wall where the door is. Then there's a ramp up towards the dining area. I have to admit I was a little put-off when I was taken to the booth next to the door, but it was a little chilly so I asked if I could at least get the next booth that is essentially at the bottom of the ramp. The entire room/bar area was completely empty and everyone else was seated in the dining area up the ramp. I thought perhaps it was full up there but then a couple entered after me and was taken up to the dining area. I thought it was because I was eating solo that perhaps they thought I wanted to view the TV in the bar; however, nothing was playing on the TV. So it was just odd that everyone leaving walked towards me down the ramp, sitting in this area completely to myself. Aside from that I found the service to be very attentive and the food was served quickly. Thoughts on what I had: Salad - it was a very generous portion of fresh mixed greens, shaved carrots, and onion. I was informed that all salad dressing is housemade so I always find that impressive. I opted for the balsamic vinaigrette, which is not your standard, as it is more of a creamier blend. Basket of bread was served warm with butter packets (I was surprised it was not with olive oil). The bread was still tasty, especially since it was served warm. Entree - Pappardelle With Sausage Ragu. I found the sausage Ragu had a bit of heat to it so couldn't eat the whole entree. But it was a very tasty meal, especially with the fried fennel topping. Bathroom - Single use bathroom for male and female. They didn't skimp on the toilet paper, which is always a nice surprise for a public bathroom 😊 The mirror is hung a little high so if you're a bit short you won't be able to check your reflection. Also there is not a changing station available in the women's bathroom.
We’ve come here at least once a month for a year. The service continually gets worse and worse. Tonight we were seated in the bar area with my 9 year old daughter. While ordering my daughter requested a side salad with ranch. When the food runner brought us a large salad with balsamic I simply said we had just ordered her a side salad (the same that had come with our dinner entrees) and just mentioned that it had balsamic on the plate. The food runner said no problem and went to grab the small salad. Our waitress (also the bartender) came stomping over when the food runner brought back the small salad. She grabbed it out of her hand and while holding it over us at our table told me that they don’t have side salads at this time because of the time of day and we will be paying for a large garden salad so we are going to get a large garden salad (this was NOT mentioned when we ordered and provably wouldn’t have purchased a $10.50 salad as a side with her meal considering she is 9 and can’t eat that whole salad and a meal). I then said ok well we ordered it with ranch can you bring ranch back when you bring back the large salad. She dumped the salad on a plate and brought it back. It was all covered in balsamic. No concern for food allergies WITH MY 9 year old CHILD! It was so unprofessional. Then she proceeded to ask us in a rude fashion if we need anything else. We come here very frequently and spend quite a bit of money there and I do not appreciate being treated like trash. It is really disheartening that they allow their waitstaff to treat customers that way. We also had a drink spilled on our table by the food runners bringing out our appetizers and I cleaned it up. Accidents happen but our waitress did not even offer to bring my boyfriend a new napkin. Rude all around. Don’t waste your time if you want good service. You will not get it here.
Decent Italian spot near the high school, with some hits and misses. We tried the calamari, Pappardelle Ragu, and Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Both entrées came with salads — the house salad was basic with ranch, and the Caesar tasted more like something from a chain pizza place. The Alfredo pasta and sauce were actually quite good — creamy and flavorful — but the chicken tasted like it had been pre-cooked earlier in the day. The Pappardelle Ragu was the highlight: the sauce was hearty, and the crispy fennel on top was a surprisingly great touch. The bread was fine, nothing special. Unfortunately, the calamari was extremely rubbery, though the breading and marinara sauce were solid. Also worth noting: the wine list is organized by grape and country (like “Pinot – USA,” “Merlot – USA”) with no brand names, so it’s hard to know what you’re getting — we tried four wines and still aren’t sure what they were. Overall, not bad, but a few tweaks could make it much better.
Very disappointed with this Italian restaurant. Despite the fact that it had very good reviews I thought the food here was poor, service lacking and staff unfriendly. The chicken picatta i had was average with very rubbery chicken. My daughter had gnocchi which was okay except for the hair she found in her food which put her off. The lasagna is a deconstructed mess on a plate and the Ravioli was uninspiring. Deserts were no better. The lemon cake barely had any flavor and the tiramisu was more a pudding in glass that was mainly all cream. I would also suggest removing the undecorated xmas tree, after all its now late January! This restaurant just seems tired and a little tatty inside. The staff were noticeably unfriendly and most seemed unhappy. When we left I said thank you and goodbye to two staff members at the empty bar who completely ignored me. I would not visit this restaurant again nor recommend it to anyone.
If I could give this place a negative I would. Server had an attitude the whole time. We waited a long time for simple drinks like lemonade and sprites. Food was bland. Bread was hard. My friend got a BLT, and the bacon was black. Our whole table didn’t finish their food. We advised the server of our dislike of the food to which she told the owner. He never came to the table. Literally sent a message through her saying “ he apologized and hopefully it won’t be like that next time.” The server then continued with her attitude to which she went to another table to clean and was talking about us loud enough for us to hear. The bill was over $300 where no one enjoyed it. Overall did not enjoy the experience and WILL NOT be returning! The decor was nice though.
Honestly terrible I was so excited to try this place and now I wish I never stepped foot into it on impact the server who you can tell is miserable was rude as ever half the tables food came out before the others all of the meat was dry sand which breads were hard as rocks and I had the lovely opportunity to have the blandest Alfredo I’ve ever had in life to call them selves an “ITALIAN” Resturant is pitiful and a joke I held the food down all of 20 minutes until I had to race to the bathroom to vomit my lungs out salt and pepper didn’t do the trick for the food and maybe if the waitress had a better attitude I maybe it could of saved at least one of their stars but nope and the. The chef only sent her out to apologize after seeing a review he came out with the most insincere apology now if you can excuse me I need to go finish the round of food poising I have acquired from this waste of space of a Resturant $300 worth of disappointment I wouldn’t feed this to my dog or my worst enemy
They had medicine sitting in the cooking area and someone was coughing loud in the back were our food was being cooked. And the sever with blonde hair was rude. And everyone that got food was cold.
I came into Casa Italiana for a pre-marathon meal, hoping to carb-load with a simple, delicious, and relaxing dinner. Instead, my experience was a disaster. Despite having a reservation, we were seated late. Once seated, it took forever to get water and some bread—normally not a huge deal since I enjoy catching up with my parents, but the delays just kept piling up. When my food finally arrived—clam linguine—I immediately noticed something off. The dish had five clams in shells, but the rest were clearly from a can. Worse, it smelled and tasted rotten. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but couldn’t stomach it. We asked the waitress to take it back, and while she was polite, she returned saying the chef claimed the dish smelled and tasted fine. Let me tell you, it was neither. They did take the dish off our check, which I’d normally appreciate, but serving potentially spoiled food is unacceptable. The rest of the service was mediocre at best, adding to the overall disappointment. Rotten food is a dealbreaker, so this place gets a 1-star review. I will not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend Casa Italiana to anyone. Stay away.
Went there with the fam on a Sunday, we had a reservation and got in right away, it was also not busy so makes sense. The food had flavor, but it wasn’t we something enjoyed, even though we do like Italian food. We had also asked for drinks but they were forgotten. We did ask for them later though. The seatings were too close to the table, we felt like we couldn’t really move. That was it, hopefully they can improve on these things.
I’ve been ordering from this restaurant for three years and always request to replace the mixed greens with lettuce on my salad — they’ve never had an issue doing that before. However, this time the woman on the phone said switching to lettuce would require an upcharge to a Caesar salad, and she was quite rude about it. Very disappointing experience. I won’t be coming back — there are plenty of better Italian restaurants in the area. Order placed around 7:37 PM on November 11
The waitress was horrible. Very rude. Their was a sick person making the food🤢🤢🤢 some of the food came out super cold, some came out really burnt. The water glass was dirty. Of i could give zero stars i would. This was my first and LAST time here.
Bartender sucked. Bad Attitude. My drinks are always consistent. This was awful. Asked what happened to the original bartender that is usually there. Guess she's gone. My husband and I always enjoyed her. Worst experience I've ever had at the bar.
