🥩 Unassuming Charm, Exceptional Steaks: A Review of JD's Mission Steakhouse 🌟 We celebrated a great first visit to JD's Mission Steakhouse on Saturday, December 13th at 6:00 PM, and we’re already planning our return. This restaurant offers a very relaxed, low-key atmosphere—it definitely leans into an older, classic steakhouse vibe with its simple booth and table seating. The exterior is quite unassuming and could use better lighting, and the interior isn't modern (we were slightly surprised by the presence of TVs), but don't let the dated look fool you. ### Culinary Highlights & Details: * **The Steaks:** The stars of the show! We ordered the New York Strip (with asparagus and a baked potato) and the Ribeye (with garlic mash and roasted corn). Both were cooked to absolute perfection. Though they carried a bit more external fat than expected, the flavor was superb and ultimately delicious. * **Sides:** The sides were solid across the board—the garlic mash, baked potato, asparagus, and roasted corn all complemented the main courses well. * **Appetizer/Bread:** The Caesar salad was just okay. The complimentary dinner rolls were a split decision: my wife loved them, but they weren't my preference. **The Defining Factor: Exceptional Service** The true highlight of the evening was the incredible customer service. Our server (a friendly young lady with red hair, whose name we regrettably missed) was incredibly friendly, attentive, and patient. Her attention to detail elevated the entire dining experience. **To our server:** Thank you! Your excellent service is the best part of our visit. Summary While JD's Mission Steakhouse's exterior is dark and the interior lacks modern flair, the combination of fantastic steak flavor and outstanding customer service makes it a clear winner. We look forward to returning soon to continue supporting this local gem!

Don't let the outdoor appearance fool you. 😁 We're new kids on the block. It's our 4th day in Jurupa Valley & we found this delicious steak house. It was Sunday, just missed brunch so had dinner at 230pm. It wasn't really busy. The music was from our generation, the 90s. Our server was OSCAR & he was amazing. Very attentive, great attitude & gave us great attention without being overwhelming. The food YUMMY! Started off with some fresh guacamole, fresh made tortilla chips & a special order of spicey salsa. HOLY MOLLY! 😋 I couldn't stop eating it! 😂 Next, the boys ordered Ribeye steak platers. Very tasty , good texture meat. Us girls had one California Salad and a cesar salad with grilled chicken on side. The dressings & meat tenderness delicious. Soup of the day, chicken cream soup. Lots of chunks of chicken, tender veggies, creamy sauce. So satisfying. 2 shots, 3 beers & 3 ice teas under $240. We'll be coming back to experience their brunch next Sunday. Can't wait!! 🤩

Will definitely be coming back for the brunch as well as other date nights and special occasions this place deserves 10 stars easily

Really enjoyed my first experience at this steakhouse. It will not be my last time. We ordered the sampler, salmon and lamb steak. Everything was cooked to our satisfaction. The services was very attentive and jenny was so perfect. She made sure our experience was great. The lamb steak was very favorable. My wife loved the salmon. No room for desert. When you come, don't be fooled by the outside. The restaurant is very friendly and affordable. Thank you everyone.the for

Sunday 3/17/24 Sunday Brunch at JD's Mission Steakhouse in Jurupa Valley with my cousin. Trying out their AYCE tomahawk steak. This tomahawk steak, other foods, and omelet were very tasty. Oscar Jr., service staff, was attentive, friendly, and hard working to refill our drinks and clear our empty plates. I even have a chance to meet the restaurant’s owners, Oscar & David. They both were friendly and hospitable. They work at the restaurant as the chef and food server, respectively; they also walked to every tables to ensure customers were enjoying their foods. They both made me felt welcome even though it was my first time going to this restaurant. Thank you Oscar & David! The restaurant played great music (80s genre) and it has good decorations. I feel happy to be there; it is a blessing to have this experience. I recommend trying this restaurant. David Young Restaurant Enthusiast

Food is amazing. Vibe is great. We met the famous chef Oscar, he has a great personality and wonderful talent in cooking. He said “I love to cook”. The host and server Oscar was welcoming and was very personable. We will definitely be back and try their all you can eat meat buffet on Sundays for brunch. A must try place for everyone. Good value for your $$$

Where do I start??!! My goodness…this place was next level in all categories. We came in on Saturday, and it was so good, we decided to come back this evening. This place is a must-try! Notable food items Spinach/baby greens salad with house-made vinaigrette, fresh fruit and chopped walnuts (bleu cheese)The mixture of flavors that made me a salad lover forever :) Cocktail sauce for the shrimp cocktail - best I’ve ever had House-made bread with a buttery, flaky exterior, and a soft center Filet mignon covered in a one-of-a-kind sauce - a true masterpiece Skirt steak (this one surprised me) very tender and flavorful! Chicken Alfredo - chicken breast was seasoned well, and tender. The Alfredo sauce danced in garlic and other delightful flavors Apple Streusel pie - apple pie with crumbles, topped with a generous helping of vanilla ice cream. Drizzled with a chocolate or Carmel sauce and fresh fruit. A beautiful finish! Ambiance Walking in, appropriate for the holiday was a beautifully decorated Christmas tree and cozy, yet also classy decor, also playing fun, upbeat Christmas music. Service These are some of the best people you will meet. They all greet you with warm smiles, are attentive, detailed and what I especially enjoyed was when the chef came out and personally checked on us.

This place was a big surprise for Sunday Brunch. The Buffet includes a salad bar with fruit, breakfast included French toast, bacon, sausage and shrimp and sauce area. There is an Omelet Station with Menudo as well. The Main dish is the Tomahawk Steak cutting station with chicken and Spare Ribs available. The Steak was amazing and flavourful. The service was amazing and to top off, there was love music. I would recommend this place. 5 Star.

Wow. Me and my mom went to JD's on Sat eve. I have to say that this is the best steakhouse I've ever been to . The boneless short ribs were absolutely amazing compliments to the chef. We had the bruschetta appetizer that was really delicious also. The manager David was very welcoming and very informative about his business. We have found our favorite restaurant in Riverside this will be our steakhouse. The service was great the restaurant was very clean the food was amazing I can't wait to go there again I will tell everybody about this restaurant. Thank you David for your Hospitality.

All I got to say the this is one of the first steakhouses I've been too. It didn't disappoint. The Chips and Guac were delicious. The Fries and Burgers were good. The veggies and Mashed Potatoes were good but the steak was one of the best Ribeyes I've ever had. I use to order ribeyes a lot back in the day but due to disappointment after disappointment I stopped and then I wanted to try this out and opted out of the safe choice, the filet mignon. The steak I would say was a solid 9 out of 10. Server was attentive and great at her job. If you are looking for a couple cocktails I would not go here yet since they are in the process of obtaining there license but they do serve wine, beer, IPA, and if you want Micheladas.

There is a bit of a story to this tail. We went on the weekend of my wife and I anniversary and we always go to a steakhouse to to celebrate. We checked out 4 other "chain restaurants" that an over 2 hour wait time. This was around 5:30 pm. We found this place after finding on tic tok this recommended place in the IE. We came no wait time. Plenty of table to sit at. Service was very kind. Frequently check up on you. It took a bit to get our dinner roles and plates for the appetizers but other than that no complaints. The steaks were very good despite my wife have hers made well done, since she was pregnant. It was on the pricier side but it had a very unique small town, hole in the wall vibyou can't get anywhere else. The chef even came out to see all the table and see how we were doing. Over all we will definitely be coming back but next time I'm trying the ribs. ;)

First time I came here with my parents for lunch I ordered a side salad and added a steak, I wasn't impressed.... Now, last night my fiance has been wanting to eat here bc hes from the area and loved tonys spunky steer and steer n stein so hes been wanting to eat here, and we both thought it was exceptional. We both ordered a JDs house salad and I thought it was was way overdressed with dressing I wish it was put on the side, just far too much dressing for me it ruined the salad, and my fiance didn't care for it at all and had only 3 bites and was done. Rolls very good. Now dinner, WOW. I ordered the skirt steak blue rare with seasonal veggies and a baked potato and my steak came out 100% perfectly cooked, im very picky on the temp of my steak. My fiance ordered a medium rare ribeye with delicious garlic mashed potatoes with roasted corn and his steak was cooked perfectly and his mashed potatoes were perfectly garlicky with fresh garlic I presume and the roasted corn was so delicious. I really recommend the skirt steak, he too said I'm getting that next time. Very good steakhouse, I highly recommend. Also, I noticed a gentleman helping and it seemed as though it was the owner and as a judge of restaurants I think highly of an establishment that has the owner hands on and involved, and typically businesses flourish with the involvement. Highly recommend.

Was looking for a place to celebrate my anniversary with the girlfriend. After looking online for what seem forever. I come across this particular restaurant. Didn't know they had a specific dinner menu for new years, but it didn't change my impression. Definitely be back to try out the regular menu some time soon. 10/10

Came here for dinner on Saturday night. Made reservations. Highly recommend! Everything tasted incredible, came out hot, full of flavor, and the waitstaff were so kind and attentive. Cannot say enough good things about everything. Get the creme brûlée! You won’t be disappointed!

We just had dinner there, and I was a little skeptical due to only 2 other couples in their dining. But wow! Did they sure surprise us. We got the sampler platter and I love how it was presented on the cutting board. And it tasted delicious! Hubby got the baby back ribs (Damn, so tender!) with the Mac & cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. I got the salmon, best I’ve ever had! And the backed potato and asparagus, all of it was so damn good. I definitely recommend and would go back again.

Great steakhouse in the middle of an industrial area. Don't be scared of the neighborhood or the strip mall it is in. The food and service was killer. Ordered medium rare and the vegetables aldente. Came exactly as I ordered. Steak seasoned well, tender and very juicy. Vegetables had a great season and oil. Gain, cooked perfectly. Staff was super nice and the chef came out at the end to inquire on the experience. He says he likes his veggies like I do. :) A bit of a weird layout of the restaurant and apparently no flushing of the toilette paper. Would not discourage me from visiting again.

This place is fantastic! The ribs were so tender and flavorful. There was so much meat and it literally fell off the bone. My daughter had the filet mignon which she also loved. I was also very impressed with the staff. We had a lovely conversation with the owner who was very friendly, and and the chef came out after our meal to speak with us as well. There was a small wait to get our food because they happened to be busy so the owner brought out several entrees for us on the house which were also delicious, especially the wings. I would definitely eat here again and have encouraged all my friends and family to eat here as well.

M
Michael Vandruff

Food was excellent. Their Jalapeño poppers wrapped in bacon were delicious, as were their homemade potato skins.. The steak was a perfect medium rare, just as I ordered. The asparagus was crisp but not raw, perfect. Staff was very kind and food came out in a timely manner. I will definitely visit again.

We were so surprised about the quality of the food. The food was amazing!!!!! Better than Morton’s or any Chophouse I’ve ever been too. I would compare the food to Vic and Anthony’s Steakhouse. The place is a fixer upper. We found out after dinner that the owner just purchased the place right after covid hit. He apparently was an executive chef at this very cool country club. He decided to open his own. This restaurant survives because the food speaks for itself and the service was excellent. Recommend the Tomahawk, Ribeye, and Salmon with avocado relish. Omg!!!!! Everything was heavenly

Absolutely amazing off the beaten path steak house. Probably the best steak house in the IE in my opinion at least. Great prices, great food, owner is a very nice friendly guy. The chef knows what he's doing for sure.

First time coming here with hubby and a couple friends. We came right at 5:00 PM, walked right in and were sat right away. Hubby and I both had the ribs. They were good. The menu states they are Baby-back ribs, they are not baby-back ribs! They are just pork spare ribs which were good, tender and tasty, but not baby-back. We both also opted to have the bbq sauce brought out on the side as some of the review pictures showed them being overly sauced which neither of us would have wanted. They were well seasoned and tasted good with and without sauce. Lightly sauced was perfect. Our friends both ordered steaks and they both enjoyed them. Next time we’ll try the steaks. Also, they serve everything on wooden cutting boards, I asked for a regular plate. Just an FYI that a regular plate is an option if you’d like. For me it was just a preference.

Would not change a single thing! Food cooked to perfection, fresh ingredients beautiful presentation. I don't remember the last time I had a steak so good at a restaurant. You can see the craftsmanship in each bite. Service was personal and on top of it.

My sister loves this place and I agreed to meet her, my brother-in-law and my niece there. I arrived first and was underwhelmed by the decor. BUT!!! Do NOT let that turn you away! The hostess was kind and friendly and asked if I wanted to be seated first but I said I would wait. After my family arrived, we were seated promptly and the service by Oscar was exceptional! He was professional but so helpful, pleasant and friendly, he really made the evening a great experience! And the food is amazing! We shared the brussel sprouts - so yummy and crispy! (We ordered the balsamic dressing on the side.) I had the lamb and it was seasoned well and cooked perfectly to my request! The asparagus was tender-crisp and the chipotle mac and cheese was delicious! It was not soupy or mushy - nice al dente with a nuanced smokey flavor. They have a new drink menu and the martinis we saw on the way out looked great! They also have a Sunday Brunch which I will have to try!

My absolute #1 favorite place to go when I visit my sister. The food is soooo good, so on point! Meats are cooked to order and the ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender! Good portions too! And Oscar is the best server anywhere - great service and great sense of humor! If you haven't been, this is a MUST visit. Forget the big chains, support this local gem! ❤️

The recommended steaks were middle of the road not exceptional did not stand out as really good. Sampler plate was all right. Service was friendly and attentive. Ambience was OK. Had two big screens to watch a football game. There was no wait for a table. If you’re really hungry and don’t wanna wait this is a place to go.

First time dining at this place and honestly it wasn't bad. The decor has the Midwest vibes and nothing is fancy but I guess that's the part of the charm. The food itself was pretty good. The steaks we ordered were a little tough but we managed to get through. Other than that it's a nice little mom and pop steakhouse who doesn't take itself too seriously. Overall worth checking out.

JD's steakhouse was a first. Tried the sampler platter that included potato skins with cheese and bacon, bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers and wings. The wings were dry and crispy very tasty with sauce on the side, buffalo and spicy BBQ sauce. Said it came with ranch but didn't receive it. We had salads also that were tasty but the croutons were not crunchy. For dinner we had filet mignon baked potato rice pilaf and corn. The steak came with a sauce and mushroom on top. Everything tasted good but I didn't like the wood board that the food was served on. I would definitely try again.

It's a 5-star meal in a 3-star storefront. JD's serves an excellent steak and high quality sides, deliciously prepared. The service is friendly, if amateurish, and the furnishings and decor are rough. So go for the great food (I understand they also put in an excellent Sunday brunch) but don't expect it to be fancy.

J

The flavor of the filet was excellent but the baked potato was cold in the middle, and it seemed odd to get a Ceasar salad with the dressing on the side. The dinner rolls are fantastic! I will try the sirloin next time. Update. Went back and tried the Top Sirloin with the Chipotle Mac and Cheese. Much better option. The fries are unique and delicious.

Wanted to grab a quick bite to eat and decided to take a chance on a local steakhouse and I'm glad we did! We were greeted with a smile and we were able to sit wherever we wanted and were presented menus. Our server promptly returned to obtain our order. After bringing our drinks our server provided us with warm rolls along with butter. I appreciated the butter temperature which allowed me to spread it without tearing up the roll. I really enjoyed it! After agreeing not to order appetizers we decided to just try entrées. From the prime dried aged cuts, I ordered the 12 oz ribeye with sides being a fully loaded potato and asparagus. My husband ordered a half rack of baby back ribs with his sides being garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. After a reasonable amount of time our food was presented. I requested a medium cooked steak and unfortunately it was more on the rare side of doneness. I decided not to return it because I was so hungry. My steak was very tender and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor profile. I appreciate how they presented the "fully loaded" items for my baked potato and my asparagus was properly cooked. My husband ate his ribs with a fork because the meat fell right off the bone when he attempted to pick up a rib. He said that the barbecue sauce was on the tangy side which he enjoyed. Overall, we were pleased with our food and experience. The only two complaints I have would be having to order Pepsi because they do not offer Coke and the temperature of my steak. I specifically asked the server if I wanted a light pink in the middle of my steak how should I order and he said medium. Next time I'll order medium well and it should be perfect. Looking forward to the next time we go and try their appetizers, soups, salads and other entrées.

Food was good a little over price for the place

K

First of all the food was great! Even though the steaks were a little on the thin side and were served on a cutting board so they cooled off quickly. The meat was very tender and nicely seasoned. The Shrimp Alfredo was also a treat. The Old Fashion drink was excellent as were the salad, rolls and desserts. The service was a little slower than expected however it was a Saturday night. The ambiance was lacking however. It felt more like a Sizzler than a high end restaurant with high end pricing!

Visited JD's Mission Steakhouse at 4957 Felspar St, Jurupa Valley, CA, for dinner tonight and had a mixed experience. The service started strong with a friendly waiter who was quite attentive, offering a menu promptly after a brief wait. I ordered the iceberg wedge with bacon, red onions, tomatoes, and blue cheese, which was delightful, followed by a 16oz Ribeye that promised 29 days of dry aging. The wedge salad was a refreshing start, but the steak, while well-cooked, didn't live up to expectations. The portion appeared smaller than advertised, resembling a 12oz rather than the 16oz listed, which was disappointing given the $50.99 price tag. Although the salad hit the mark, the main dish and a glass of red wine (chosen after a less than pleasant soda water) didn't quite justify the cost. Overall, the dining experience was just okay—nothing memorable—and unfortunately, it doesn’t inspire a return visit.

Stopped by for first time and ordered to go. This review is based on a to go order which sometimes impacts the presentation and quality of food. Ordered a salad and had steak added. They have three dinner salads, regular Caeser, a wedge salad and a house salad. I decided to go for the house salad since the ingredients sounded good. menu said it had Pears, dried cherries, nuts and mixed greens. I am glad i opted to add meat because the portion of salad itself was quite small and at almost $9 for a small portion of almost mixed green its not worth the cost. Surprisingly the add on meat cost the same amount $9. The meat portion was nicely cooked and very tender and was the only reason i was contempt with my food. For the total price of $20 it is a bit high for the serving of this salad. The location either needs to correct their portion size of green, pears and nuts which were a bit lacking to justify the $9 price or lower the price at least a dollar or two. As for flavors i have to say that they were really good and the added meat was delicious. One thing i noticed is lack of help, the person that helped my at check in desk was also taking orders and serving guests.

(Update - went back a couple weeks ago and had the exact same experience. Steak was good, but not quite high-end level. Sides are so tiny, almost comically small, and my rice was undercooked again. The veggies were great, but just so little on the plate. My wife ordered asparagus, and literally got like two pieces; that's just a crazy way to lose repeat business. But I'm going to keep trying after a few more months; maybe a lift in business will lead to better decisions; there is potential here. The steak was good, but with the quality and current sides, the meal should be $30 tops. $40, when you figure out the sides. They have finally gotten a liquor license, so I'm told, so that's good. The original review, below, still holds for now.) 3.5 stars (4 stars if their prices or quality were corrected). Staff was great, and they seem to have an interesting Sunday brunch. They just need to do a better job of defining what type of establishment they are. I rate based on expectation, and my expectations are set fairly based on the type of establishment. This place is reminiscent of any other neighborhood Steakhouse. So you normally would have to rate it based on that expectation. However, their prices are that of a lower-high end steakhouse. So that raises the bar on food expectations, and this place simply doesn't fit that kind of bill. $45-$60 for a 12oz NY is absolutely fine at a high end steakhouse. But I expect a prime-thick cut steak, cooked as ordered... A high end atmosphere and creative sides; and a liquor license. That's not the experience here. The rice was under cooked and portioned small, and the steak was cut uneven (so part was well done; part was medium well). I ordered it medium. Again, if the steak was cut/cooked right and this was a higher end place; no issues paying $50'ish for the steak alone. But this place appears to be charging more, because business is slow (likely due to the construction and Newsome blunders). Mind you, they bring two pieces of bread, then charge $0.75 per roll. And it isn't brown or focaccia bread... You know something special; just a dinner roll. That kind of stuff feels cheap; like skipping out on croutons to save a buck. Now I'm not hating on the place. I ultimately liked my steak, and my wife's steak was cooked correctly. The sides need to be better portioned, and redesigned, but if my meal was $35, I wouldn't be mentioning any of this. I got what I was expecting from a neighborhood steakhouse; the price just didn't fit, and that likely reduces the overall business patrons as well. Of course, they could go the other way too, and truly go upscale; I'd love an upscale steakhouse nearby. It's not the money, it's the value for the money. You go to a restaurant for atmosphere and a dinner you wouldn't cook for yourself at home. We'll give them another shot; maybe the brunch. Again; wasn't bad (I'd suggest people try this place). But I think they need to pivot (one way or the other) to fine tune business.

Heather was really nice & took our order. Ribeyes were tuff & chewy, Creme Brule was cakey on top & soggy on the bottom weird. Waitress with wanna be red hair is really rude.

B
Brian

Went back after 10 yrs. Good steak but high prices, small portions, pay for extra bread (really?), no kids menu/ options, outdated/faded awning at entrance (put some love in your business!), service wasn't good. For $140, it convinced us to make steaks at home.

D
Dominique Hubbard

I guess they give the worst cuts to delivery orders so we can’t send it back. 12 oz steak was literally 50% fat. I know a lot of people exaggerate so I uploaded proof. Steak was also undercooked. Flavor was ok, Mac and cheese was average, asparagus was fine but you can’t really mess that up.

R
Renita Drumal

Fried chicken was crispy, but no flavor. And my veggies were a mix of under cooked and mushy. Mashed potatoes were ok. 1 - 10 I give it a 2 and price was kind of outrageous. It was ok. Almost no body in there for a thursday night. Quite.

A
Alexis Passion

We were so disappointed with our service. Our server was rude, didn’t tend to us in time. Took extremely long to take our order, the salads we got were withered and old. We waited almost a hour for our food… When we tried to get the servers attention.l she just ignored us. They aren’t even busy. We won’t be coming back. Better off going to a commercial steak house.
