I’m a little late on this review, but better late than never! We recently celebrated my brother‘s 50th birthday at Donovan‘s. The food and service was exceptional. But the best part was that I called ahead and asked if they could do something “obnoxious” to celebrate my brother 😂. I hadn’t known that I was talking to the owner. Right after our drinks were delivered in walked this large, balloon display, it was even better than I could’ve imagined 😂. We all got a huge laugh out of it, several pictures, and my brother loved it. I neglected to get the owner‘s name, but thank you, thank you, thank you! You hit it out of the park. Run, don’t walk to visit this place. I’ll be back again soon! 😍
I made a reservation for our 25th anniversary dinner. We have only been in the area for about a year and have want to try Donovan’s. I didn’t realize they closed an hour after our 8pm reservation. When we went in, we asked the hostesses if it was too late for us to try enjoy our night, with only an hour. I quote, “You have come here and we will take care of you!” We were so happy! They found a perfect, quiet spot for us and were glad to serve us. Our server, Patrick, was amazing! Attentive, cordial, knowledgeable and never seemed to rush us or anything! Excellent, excellent server! Everything we ordered was amazing! I had the seasonal old fashioned, do warm and perfectly balanced! We ordered the Prime Rib Poutine and it is a LARGE appetizer. Hot, crispy and melty. Delicious with the horseradish dip. I ordered the Duck Con Fit. This was truly special! I ordered medium, as suggested. So perfect with breast medallions and leg. The meat was soft and savory. Very tender, perfect seasoning and texture. My husband had the Cowboy ribeye with mushroom risotto and it was a beautiful steak and matched in flavor! The risotto! Everything tasted like what it should. Not salty or flavor enhanced. True, delicious flavors. Really amazing food! We were offered dessert and declined. We were so full! The fact that they welcomed us knowing that we didn’t want to be rushed, and we weren’t at all. We wound up leaving right at 9:00 after a perfect dinner and excellent service. We also received several congratulations on our anniversary! We will definitely be back! This establishment truly cares about their patrons!!! Thank you for a very enjoyable dinner and evening! This is likely to be our GO-TO for anniversary dinners! ❤️
We loved the warm, welcoming environment at Donovan's. The food was superb with that grilled woodsy flavor.
What a Gem! My first time there. The food and atmosphere were great! My family picked for my birthday and it did not disappoint. The shrimp on the appetizer were huge. We ordered a meat app as well and it was delicious. Steaks and sides were great as well. The owner John was engaging and friendly. Only negative was the server was busy and forgot an item and later offered but forgot the dessert menu as well. My birthday dessert was not forgotten however, and was delicious! Once reminded, the server made a great recommendation for dessert for the others. Overall a great first experience. Will definitely go back.
We are here for the first time and the new owner John was on the floor training employees to pay attention to detail! A rare find in the restaurant world these days!! The restaurant was immaculate clean, the food & wine were outstanding and the service was exceptional!! We will definitely return!!

We ate dinner here at 4:00pm. It was not crowded. They had live jazz playing around 5:00pm. The food was delicious. We all enjoyed our steaks. They were seasoned and cooked to perfection! Our waitress was very kind and attentive. The front door is kind of angled on the corner of the restaurant. And a few of us had trouble finding it. It's kind of comical watching other people struggle too. Perhaps they could add more signage to help.
We've been here many times, but today I'm writing my first review, and it's all because of our server, Hayden. He was absolutely amazing! This was by far the best experience we've had, and as I mentioned, we've dined here frequently. The food was delicious as always, but what stood out was Hayden's exceptional service. At our request, he made several recommendations and was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, which we greatly appreciated. We'll definitely be back, and from now on, we'll be asking for Hayden—he's truly a gem!
Wow! Donovan’s Meatery absolutely exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the service was flawless. Our host, Hayden, set the tone with a warm, welcoming energy that made the entire experience feel special. Our fabulous female bartender and Jason, who seamlessly balanced roles as both bartender and server, delivered some of the best hospitality I’ve experienced anywhere as of recent. The cocktails were crafted with precision, the food was thoughtful and delicious, and every detail felt intentional. Donovan’s is truly doing it right — an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. Impressed! 🙌
This was our first time at Donovan's, and it did not disappoint. The ambiance was amazing, the people were so kind, and the food was superb. We tried a little bit of everything, and we had no complaints. Everything was seasoned, and tasty. The cocktails were great, it really was a great time. The owner of the restaurant even came and chatted with us, Highly recommend....
I just went for my birthday and my experience was phenomenal. Joe was our server and in a business that can be so unforgiving, he was an AMAZING server. Even if the food was horrible(it wasnt!), he would have made it amazing. He was attentive, he made knowledgeable recommendations, and his overall service was top notch! Joe was AWESOME! The food was very good as well. Everything we had was seasoned to perfection and delicious. The entire experience was great, but Joe took it over the top. One of the best birthdays ever.
I had a great time there on 9/19. There is really good customer service from the host team to the servers! The drinks were really unique, well crafted and flavorful. We ordered a red sangria, The Big Guava and the Huckleberry Lavender Lemonade and ALL were delicious. We ordered the charcuterie board, which was fine as an appetizer. But, the meats were the stars! I had the wagyu ribeye and it was melt in your mouth tender and flavorful. The other orders we had included prime rib with mashed potatoes (excellent!! 5⭐'s), petit medallions for my daughter with the crispy potatoes and black garlic aioli for dipping and filet mignon with brussel sprouts. The sides were great too! Honestly, the atmosphere was really fun, especially the playlist. I am so happy to have a great place to go to in Riverview with quality downtown Tampa vibes. We'll be back soon!
celebrated new year January 1st dinner. I first did recon of the restaurant to assure the atmosphere would be condusive for a special date night. I met with Nicolette, the manager and Jason to prearrange table , I then left a dozen roses with vase to be on table as we arrived...the Old Fashions were perfectly paired with our steaks that were prepared exactly as ordered...the attention to every detail of the evening was amazing by the hostess, bartender and the manager . it was an amazing evening. it appears whether you're going for a lunch date, or sit at the bar for drinks or dinner, I don't think that you will be disappointed. I also want to give honorable mention to Quinton the night time bartender. He is a master at making "Old Fashions" and a great conversationalist.
I had the most delicious filet mignon tonight cooked medium rare and it was buttery and cooked to perfection! Kyrin was an incredible server who was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and guided my husband and I to the best choices that truly elevated our experience! Loved it!
After two visits to Donovan's Meatery, this restaurant is now my go to place for girl's night out, date night, and celebratory family dinners. The service is exceptional, the food is delicious & filling, and the atmosphere is warm & inviting with upscale South Tampa/Hyde Park vibes. We will definitely be making more reservations here to enjoy all of the above!

Wow. The ambiance, food, service, and drinks are 10/10. My fiancé and I sat at the bar where Jason & Jessica took great care of us. Very attentive, knowledgeable, and offered great suggestions on menu/drink options. This was truly a fantastic experience. Also offered a 20% military discount to veterans/active duty service members. Absolutely worth a visit.
On December 10, 2025, I treated my husband to a birthday dinner at Donovans Steak House, a highly-recommended establishment. The atmosphere was cordial, and I must commend our server for being polite and attentive. He also informed us that they knew how to cook steaks to perfection. However, the food was a major letdown. My husband's well-done steak required two returns before it was cooked to his liking (no red meat) , and although he found it satisfactory thereafter, my chicken parmesan was subpar. The chicken seemed to be days old, tough, l rubbery and hard to chew with a breaded exterior that was masked by a layer of cheese. The accompanying noodles were lukewarm, much like the entire meal. This dish is not recommended. After informing the manager, she offered to replace it, but I declined, citing concerns about potential tampering. Given the exorbitant price, this level of quality is unacceptable. In fact, this was the worst meal I've ever had. Consequently, I would not recommend this restaurant. While the manager waived the cost of our drinks, my primary expectation was a satisfactory dining experience. Unfortunately, the food fell short. This service made me wonder if it was intentional because we were the only black ones in the establishment. Such a disappointment.

Phenomenal steaks and drinks. Service is top notch too. They do a great job bringing the fine dining experience to Eastern Hillsborough County.

I tried Donovan's Meatery for the first time, and I will certainly return. Upon checking in for my reservation, I was greeted by a very kind woman (whom I assumed was the manager), and she instantly brought a smile to my face. From there, I became even more excited to experience this new (to me) restaurant. I ordered 1 lobster tail, crispy brussel sprouts, macaroni and cheese, accompanied by the seasonal old-fashioned, which turned out to be peach flavored. I'm not really a fan of the peach syrup used, but it was palatable. While the food was good, I'm rating my overall experience 4 stars because the bartender seemed to be stretched thin, creating longer than necessary wait times.

Went to Donovan’s Meatery for the first time and let me just say the staff here is SUPER FANTASTIC! Seriously, amazing energy all around. Huge shoutout to Hayden✨✨ the absolute bomb.com. He recommended my entire experience from the drink, to the appetizer, to the entrée, and everything was spot on. I didn’t take photos this visit, but trust me, I’ll be back very soon for a full food review because the food was FAB! The only issue we experienced was with my mom’s meal. Her salmon and mashed potatoes were served cold. The staff did explain they were trying to bring all the meals out together since my mom arrived late, which we appreciated. However, instead of preparing a fresh piece, the salmon was repeatedly put back on the grill after she had already cut into it, which honestly didn’t feel ideal. That said, overall I still can’t complain the food quality and customer service were genuinely good, and the staff made the experience enjoyable. Definitely looking forward to coming back!
The atmosphere and the service were great. Yet, we ordered two tomahawk’s and we received very fatty cut’s of meat, lacked flavor. We were misled and told that the special was 32 ounces of meat and it was shareable. The bone took up a good portion of the weight. We did leave hungry. Highly expensive! A “shareable tomahawk” with two coffees came to about $170. We came with 10 people. Probably spent close to $1000 dollars all together. We Called them back to give them an opportunity to redeem themselves, because we were disappointed and they offered us a free appetizer. You may check my reviews, I usually have nothing but kind things to say about every restaurant, but I must say for us Dohnovon’s is definitely not worth the price. Hopefully they can use this review to make some adjustments. Maybe other things on the menu are better. But we are not willing to give them another try.

Actually a 2.5 We sat at the bar and Clarissa (spelling) was wonderful. Very attentive and friendly. We ordered the prime rib, garlic mashed pot, carrots and a side of the shrimp. The shrimp was overcooked and had too much spice. The prime rib was mediocre but not terrible. The carrots were delicious. The mashed potatoes were salty?, not sure how that happens because it's very difficult to add too much salt to potatoes. The cocktails were delicious. I had the New York Whiskey Sour with Fig. Very delicious. My date had the seasonal smoked old fashioned and a regular smoked old fashioned. They were a bit on the sweeter side but still delicious. Would I go back here? Ummm. Maybe for a drink, but most likely won't return.

Went on Valentine's evening and it was very busy, so a little credit to the issues with food and service. They ran out of baked potatoes at 6:30pm, but everyone around us seemed to get loaded baked potatoes around us. Steak came out medium rare, not medium well+ (for the lady). Took about 1.5 hours to get the actual main course. Overall, the end result was good, but I'm not sure it was worth $200+ after tip.
The hostess who sat us was great. The rest of the experience was disappointing. It was our 36th wedding anniversary- Our expectations from the reviews were this will be a nice place like a Ruth’s Chris with outdoor seating, ambiance and great food closer to home and the fact that it was fellow Veteran owned was the cherry on top. The reality- atmosphere 2 stars- The outdoor seating wasn’t ambient at all, we chose inside. The lighting combined with the font of the menu made it very difficult to read. Our server came back several times to see if we had made up our minds but it was so difficult to read it took me forever . We learned more about the specials, menu items and recommendations from overhearing the bartender explaining it to his patrons but that was after we had our meals and were waiting on our check. We ordered the shrimp appetizer. It was piping hot but the batter crumbled to pieces- the shrimp has a great flavor though- the steak was cooked as requested - medium. But there was no seasoning at all.My chicken was okay but our food wasn’t hot . It wasn’t cold but the sauce had congealed a bit making me think it sat for a bit before it came to us. When our server asked us how it was - we were honest and said it was “okay.”( food 2 stars) The manager was at our table almost immediately. Very apologetic - wanting to make it right- offered a new steak but at that point - it was what it was, We came with expectation of a 5 star dining experience and it had missed the mark . She did give us a free dessert because the meal wasn’t up to our expectation. Service 3 stars.

Donovans Meatery is the revitalized Boca that use to be open but closed. As you enter the setting is reminiscent of Boca with the hanging glass bottle lights with the bar centralized. We were quickly sat down and the staff seemed quite friendly however, this changed. From our seat we could see the kitchen staff preparing food. We started by ordering the prime rib poutine with drinks. The poutine was mediocre at best, but the espresso martini, and old fashioned were good. My wife ordered prime rib and myself ordered a 16oz lacquered delmonico medium rare. Upon arrival of our food as I cut into my steak it was noted to be done with very minor pink. Upon waving the server down and asking them to replace it this is when things changed. As it was taken back to the kitchen they could be visibly seen complaining about us saying "pink" is medium rare. The kitchen staff continued to stare at us and make comments, This made us very uncomfortable. The steak replaced was smaller than my initial 16oz steak as well but it was acceptable doneness. We finished our food and left but for an evening spending 200+ dollars your money is better spent elsewhere.
We had the wagyu beef steak, potato dippers, smoked Mac n cheese (for the kiddo), espresso martini, charcuterie board for a starter, twin lobster tails, and the lacquered Delmonico. Pros: BEST espresso martini Ive had. My delmonico was savory and a lot like a prime rib. Charcuterie was amazing (reach for the hot honey) sauce for the potato dippers was a delicious black pepper aioli. cons: Wagyu was VERY mid, my lobster tail was WAY overcooked, Mac n cheese was super salty. The servers were amazing. The cooks were a little loud and not professional. The kitchen is wide open so they should be mindful of what they are saying. Atmosphere was darker and really cavern like. Very cool decor but there were fruit flies EVERYWHERE which by the end of my meal had us swatting like maniacs and my daughter was grossed out. I’d say this was more of a $30 per person type of restaurant. Not $100.

I went to Donovan's for a small group dinner on a Saturday with a 7pm reservation. We were greeted by the staff upon entering, and Alani escorted us to our table. Our server, Hayden, was amazing and very attentive. Unfortunately, the dinner itself was lackluster. After we received our drinks and appetizers, it took way too long for our main courses to arrive - after 9. I ordered the pork chop with mashed potatoes, which was okay, but the staff delivering the meals seemed unsure of which dish was the pork chop and which was the steak and walked around the table with my food. My husband had a steak with tempura fried shrimp as an enhancement. I didn’t care for the shrimp - the breading was not traditional tempura, under-seasoned and greasy. We also ordered bacon-braised green beans, but they were overcooked and underwhelming (mushy and bland). While our food was edible, others at our table had several complaints that went unaddressed by the manager. After multiple requests, she finally came out but chose to yell down the table instead of addressing us individually to address our issues. Although we were offered a couple of free desserts as compensation, the option most people wanted was not available. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. The bright spot being aside our interactions with Alani and Hayden. Considering the price, the food was definitely not worth it, and I won't be returning.
I went to Donovan's for a small group dinner on a Saturday with a 7pm reservation. We were greeted by the staff upon entering, and Alani escorted us to our table. Food took one hour. The quality has gone down with so many changes over past year. Great atmosphere but expensive for the quality. We will not return.

We made reservations for 11 people for 7pm. We were seated right away, placed our food and appetizers but sat for two hours with just drinks and appetizers. Finally received food, several steaks were undercooked. The served Hayden did his best but was left alone without support from his manger after our table on more than one occasion asked to speak to a manger. We were offered a free dessert and wine bottle to be comped. They didn’t have the dessert we wanted, we settled for a slice of chocolate mouse that was overly sweet. The bottle of wine was not comped, just one glass of wine. The manger came and spoke to one side of the table. She didn’t even make eye contact with the other side of the table. The whole experience was mid. Sad the sever was made to take the blame for the manager’s lack of accountability of short staff in the kitchen, short staff of servers, and overall experience.
