Really cool place. 600+ pictures of veterans. Food is good too!
Such a great lunch today. We were a party of about 12 and the food and service were great. How nice to be served by pleasant waitresses.
Plenty of food and great service! The fish was melt in your mouth FANTASTIC as well as the meatloaf. The loved their dishes too!! Good home cooking!
Nothing beats small town Texas cafes! The decor and tribute to our veterans was beautiful. Thank you. Amazing food and very attentive waitstaff. Chicken fried steak was some of the most tender I have had. Peach cobbler for dessert was piping hot and the serving was enough to share! Highly recommend Hwy 77 Cafe.
Everything about our dinner was an enjoyable experience. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. We came in during a rain storm and they even turned off the fans for us. 👍 We had the fried catfish plate and agreed it was the best we have had in a restaurant. The fish filets were thick perfectly fried! Top notch fried okra too! I really enjoyed my German slaw and onion rings. We finished our meal with yummy bread pudding for dessert. Oh my, it was so good, I highly recommend you try it!!! I was told they have a new cook to whom I would love to say, “thanks for such a great meal”. We will return asap! I have to mention their Wall Of Fame! Covering their walls are pictures of our men and women who have served in the US military. I was touched to be sitting among such great company as those who have fought for our freedom!
Very friendly and helpful staff. So many choices on the menu. Three of us in our party and we all loved what we got. I would definitely stop here to eat again if I were in the area. Atmosphere was comfortable. Highly recommended.
We stopped to eat here back in April on our way down to South Texas to visit family, and I just wanted to share what a great experience we had. We arrived after breakfast hours, and my grandparents were talking amongst themselves about how they were craving breakfast. The staff overheard them and kindly accommodated us by offering breakfast anyway. The food was great, we loved all the patriotic décor, and the service was excellent. If you’re passing through, please stop by!
Very cool highway diner that appears in the middle of nowhere! Friendly service and great food with a nice vibe. Walls are covered with pictures of veterans, old and new and each is indexed with a number so you can see their name and information. Multiple generations too with things like "...son of #293." The index can be found on their website or they also have a tri-fold menu style printout that you can look at as well. Love this place!!
After passing this place several times while traveling, I finally got the chance to stop. Very pleasant experience! The food was delicious and the service was great. We tried the fried mushroom appetizer and it was perfect! The mushrooms were so big they had to be cut in 4ths to eat. The batter was delicious and not greasy at all! The meatloaf was a huge portion and tasty! The fish and shrimp combo plate was big enough to share and the onion rings were perfection! Hand-battered and deliciously crispy. The patty melt was flavorful and gooey. And the desserts were delicious. Everyone got something different and no one was disappointed. The peach cobbler was big enough to share with 3 people. We will be back!
Going to this little restaurant was a great experience. We were passing through town and just so happened upon this place. It looks so tiny from outside, but it's pretty spacious inside. Our waitress was very nice, and answered any questions we had about the menu. The burger was good, and the whole family enjoyed their meals. We had the banana pudding for dessert, and it was delicious. I'd highly recommend stopping here for lunch.
Woke up and decided we needed some mom and pop, home style food. We found this place and it DID NOT disappoint. Food was fresh and delicious, staff was helpful and very polite. Love the atmosphere, very relaxing and has a great decorative theme. Absolutely recommend trying. We will certainly be back!! ❤️❤️
First: food was outstanding for some little mom/pop place! Onion rings were delish! Second: service was amazing! I mean hands down amazing!! Third: hard core social distancing and masks and reminders and sanitizers really on it here! Fourth: the women’s restroom was so clean and inviting!! Lucille Ball quote on full size mirror, purse hook, just awesome! If you are in the area it’s a MUST STOP! Worth the 20 min wait outside! Ceiling and atmosphere were really cool too!
Cafe is clean, staff friendly. I had liver & onions, salad, blackeyed peas. It was well done, very nice, peas tasty, brown gravy was excellent. Others in my party had chicken fried steak, cream corn, & they were good as well. Mashed potatoes were average. Desert, bread pudding was excellent, some of best I have had.
I’m not sure if this meal would qualify as coming from a top rated cafe. Could be because it’s the only place to eat in this area... We were hungry, so we ate, but if I wanted to eat burnt food, I could have stayed home! The sausage gravy was delicious and the coffee was strong- which was great. The atmosphere was honey and nice. The ladies serving us were nice and happy we were here.
We laid my grandfather to rest in rosebud all the family came from different parts of Texas and after the funeral we came to this cafe. I got there first so I told the server we would have a lot of people coming, she looked really annoyed when I said that her and the other girl they had a huge attitude problem with our big table (I worked as a server for years so I understand being overwhelmed but this was uncalled for ) it took and almost 2 hours for me to place my order (got there at 3:30 didn’t eat until 5) my drink was never refilled and over all the customers service was horrible! I spent 60 dollars on 3 people we did not get our moneys worth!
What a way to treat a veteran let alone just anybody. Didn’t greet me when I came in and just stared at me like I was a leper. When they finally had to, they were condescending and rude giving dirty looks to each other (rude little highschool girls). No, thanks never again. Last time I was here the food was expensive and not very good (poboy). Over rated anyways.
Haven't been here in several years but we used to love going here. Not anymore. Just terrible all around. The waitress was on her phone about 60% of the time, had to flag her down to get her to get service. I asked if they had Miracle Whip and she said yes. She put Cool Whip on my food. The meatloaf had a can of stewed tomatoes on top, just straight out of a can, nothing to it. My husband and I both got mashed potatoes (instant) but his tasted sour and mine didn't. The chicken fried steak was undercooked. The salad had 1 slice of cucumber and 1 cherry tomato on iceberg with the little cup of dressing only half full. There was no dinner roll with our dinner, despite what the menu said. The black-eyed peas were mushy with no flavor. At least the tea was good. There was not one single thing good about our meal. No drink refills offered. Had to go ask for our bill to pay. Such a shame because this place used to be so good with fresh food. No more.
