Opinions de Mahal Roslyn Heights
We are in the USA on holiday from India and after 3 weeks here were craving for good Indian food, Mahal exceeded our expectations. Amazing food and hospitality.
an amazing experience to dine here. Extremely elevated like fine Indian restaurants in the city-that same value is so hard to find in long island. Mahal brings luxury experience, taste and service in one place! High recommend
I visited this restaurant with family. we are pure vegetarians and this place has the perfect item in their menu that I always long for:) that is the Veg Thali. Their veg thali is super tasty and good enough for 2 people with an extra order of rice, roti or poori. I make this suggestion because we were 3 pax and we ordered 3 thalis and the food was way too much in-spite of we being heavy eaters. The only thing that disappoint me about the thali was that It did not come with a dessert which is my favorite after any major meal of the day. Also their palak chat is a must try something nice, tasty and unique. And not forgetting the ambiance of this place, guys it gives an amazing and classy wala vibe. Our server was very friendly and the owner of the place is also very down to earth. Well now on another amazing Indian restaurant in my recommendation list.
Great experience - service and food were both amazing. The Hara Bhara Kebab, samosas, and paneer were all really good, as was the dal and other entrees we got. Definitely my go-to place for Indian food in the area.
Very nice restaurant. Food was really good. They had unique dishes on menu. Our server was very sweet and attentive, took great care of us. Highly recommend for indian food in Long Island.
We went to Mahal for dinner and were pleased with food and service. We tried lot if appetizers like paneer tikka, hariyali kabab, cheese bread with makhani sauce.. they were all yum Will definitely go there again
I came here a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved the food. Perfectly seasoned and just enough spice. We ordered the patiala murgh (a chicken curry) and the malai kofta (a vegetable dumpling curry). We also ordered the mushroom truffle nan, boondi raita, and palak chat. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate. As much as we liked the food, the service was just as impressive. We had Divya as our waitress. She was bubbly, friendly and efficient. She is a prime example of how service can make or break your experience and she definitely made our experience even better. We will definitely be coming back.
The best Indian cuisine I've had in the US as yet. There is something in the taste of US Indian restaurants that makes it unpleasant (for me), not sure if it's the ingredients or perhaps catering to a specific palate. Thankfully, I didn't experience this at Mahal - the food really was excellent. Coupled with amazing service and staff who actually listened, everything was cooked fresh. I only wish it was closer for me to have more often. Special shout out to Mr Preet and the owner!
Great food and a nice restaurant. Fancy compared to other Indian restaurants in the area with reasonable prices. The customer service was excellent they gave us free appetizer and dessert. Food was high quality and authentic.
I hosted a private event here knowing that the incredible food would not disappoint. What I never anticipated was being looked after so attentively and generously by their owner and staff. I'm so touched by the care that was put into every step. From initial contact to menu selections and logistics. This was truly a special experience. Everything went smoothly and of course, the food was amazing. Thank you Bob and everyone at Mahal for taking care of my family. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽✨✨✨
Wow, best Indian food ever. Got recommended this restaurant by a friend, and it did not disappoint. Really good Indian restaurant on Long Island.
Manager handsome and Chefs make the most unique dishes with the freshest ingredients. 15/10 highly recommend. I miss the old bartender he was very good and made cocktails
Came here with my family for my mom's birthday. We had an incredible time. The ambiance was great - nice music, paintings, and interior. THE FOOD WAS THE BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE HAD IN NEW YORK. Everything was so flavourful and cooked to perfection. I really mean it. The food even impressed my dad and he doesn't give out complements so easily. The staff were very pleasant. We even got to meet the head chef after we finished our meal. Again, a fantastic experience. They really made my mom's birthday special. I'll definitely recommend this place and I hope to visit again soon. If you wanna impress someone, Mahal is the place to go!!
Had a gathering with friends for lunch at this restaurant. Every thing was impeccable from the cuisine to service … The ambiance and food was just amazing!! I just loved it Would def recommend to try this restaurant!!
We really enjoyed our dinner Mahal tonight. In terms of quality, the food here is on par with high end restaurants in the city. The food is delicious without being too heavy. The portion sizes were great and the service was wonderful. Additionally, unlike many Indian restaurants that rush through your meal, we found this to be more of a dining experience where we were able to enjoy our dinner at a leisurely pace. Would highly recommend!
Great atmosphere, great food, and great service. Can’t complain, everything was just amazing. Will be coming back with my family for dinner.
I recently dined at Mahal Restaurant, and it was an exceptional experience that left a lasting impression. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, setting the tone for the evening. The ambiance was cozy yet vibrant, with elegant decor that added to the overall dining experience. The authenticity of the food at Mahal is unparalleled. Each dish I tried was bursting with flavor, showcasing the chef's mastery of Indian cuisine. From the tender tandoori chicken to the masaledar murgh, every bite was a delight. What truly stood out, however, was the top-notch hospitality. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that every guest felt welcomed and taken care of, making the dining experience not just about the food but also about the sense of belonging and warmth. Overall, Mahal Restaurant is a gem that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine paired with excellent service.
We had a small family party at Mahal NY. Their service is impeccable, absolutely fantastic. They went out of their way to accommodate all our guests requests. The party room is good for 70-80 guests, we had 50 so it was perfect. Anil managed the event very well and Rehana who served us was super nice. Food was really good and tasted heavenly. Every single food item that we selected felt it was prepared with care and passion. Their service and arrangement is absolutely 5 star. Definitely booking them again.
Absolutely delicious! Excellent food & a lovely atmosphere. Lamb vindaloo was a standout. A bit more expensive than some other local Indian restaurants but worth the upgrade!
I hav only been there once but I think it's safe to say best Indian restaurant on Long Island. The food was phenomenal, the service was great, even the owner came around and had a nice convo with us. We are vegetarian so I can't speak on the meat dishes but everything we had was delicious. Best garlic naan I ever had, the dishes were bigger than I expected for the price, and none of it was greasy or spicy (we asked for mild). Thank you Bobby for a wonderful time in your beautiful restaurant.
Highly recommend it! Delicious food and beautiful ambience. The prices are to be expected for fine dining. Restaurant is brand new so you may need to be a little patient with the service for now but overall, super great place to enjoy some Indian food with friends and family. Definitely try the lamb chops if you are wondering what to order- my favorite entrée. I will absolutely be visiting again!
Absolutely incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality and inviting aroma of spices set the tone. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor—from the perfectly spiced peshwari lamb chops to the creamy hara bhara kababs. The naan was soft and fresh, and the lychee martini was the perfect sweet touch. The staff was attentive, friendly, and happy to offer recommendations. You can tell they take pride in both the food and the service. Highly recommend!
Anniversary dinner @ 5:00 pm 6/18/25. We had a wonderful experience. The food was so fresh, I had Tandori Chicken with vegetable basmati rice. My husband had Tikka Masala with papaya salad. We also had rosemary nan. Everything was spot on. The staff was delightful. We will be back. Highly recommend.
My family and I come to Mahal often. Everyone is so friendly and accommodating. The food is amazing and so is the atmosphere. Family and kid friendly. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys great food!
Tried an Indian spot in Long Island and the food was solid. Flavors were bold, everything was well-prepared, and the service was smooth. The malai naan was a standout soft, rich, and definitely a must-try.
i recommend this restaurant if you want amazing food and service. the place is clean n nice. the lamb chops is so worth it and definitely coming back again.
Absolutely outstanding service by staff. Get to spend quality time with the owner Narinder Ahluwalia & get to know him better. His genuinely speaks through his eyes. Enjoyed special birthday for my brother Robin & Sister Shilpa. Could not have chosen better day than that. Even weather played it's part after being temperamental for so many days. Delicious food. Loved all 3 signature dishes. Shilpa& I both like to eat chat & fulfill over regular dinner. Both of us End up eating 2 kulfies each. Really loved delicious Spinach chat, HariBhari...... & Malai Nan. Of course brought home Bhindi veg. Just perfect ! BEST Indian Restaurant in Roslyn Heights you want to try if can not make it to NYC for several very good Indian restaurants. We were flying with joy on Sat. 3-29-2025
Absolutely delicious food and Wonderful Staff. Palak chaat was one of my favorite .Hara bhara kabab you can count on And Kheer 😋Perfectly sweetened I would definitely go back and enjoy Indian delicacies
I planned my mom’s 70th birthday party with this restaurant and after all is said and done I can say we will be back AND often. Management? 10 out of 10 Staff? 11 out of 10 (especially Nadma, Divya, and the bartender- Whose name I apologetically forget). Accommodations? 10 out of 10 Food? 9 out of 10 (Only because my mom was a chef for 30 years…and so I can be somewhat biased) Atmosphere? 9 out 10
This place has the best Indian food in town very cozy environment and a very, very nice staff
Great place to have good quality Indian food. They have great fusions like palak chaat served in a cocktail glass. Hard bhara kabab is great… malai naan was definitely something to try. Overall would recommend this place to anyone craving for great Indian food.
This place was amazing, fantastic costumer service. Loved the food, highly recommended! -from yours truly Sami Saleem
This restaurant was exceptional. Likely the best Indian food I’ve ever had. When you first walk in the lighting and music is very subtle. It creates a very welcoming ambiance. My husband and I were greeted immediately and brought to a double top. Everything was clean. To start, we ordered a specialty naan bread that was filled with cream cheese on the inside. It was delicious. The red wines blend perfectly with the spices they add to their dishes. For the main course we had the lamb, chicken tikka masala and garlic spinach rice. The lamb was phenomenal. So much flavor. The chicken tikka masala mixed with the garlic spinach rice was an excellent combination. The service and whole experience was top tier. Would highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to try something new and intimate.
Mahal is one of the best Indian restaurants in Long Island. The service is excellent, the ambiance is beautiful, and the food is outstanding. Many times, we have enjoyed lunch or dinner at this restaurant. Each time, we receive the same top-class service that Mahal is known for.
A stunning meal, so authentic and clearly home made recipes. Service was impeccable.
I had such a pleasant experience here this past Saturday night. We stopped in on a whim and are so glad we took the chance on this restaurant. The food was delicious. The service was impeccable (our waitress was Divya). The ambience/atmosphere was serene. One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend.
Here’s a new Indian restaurant that does not give you indigestion! The food is prepared to your taste… mild pepper 🙏🏽. We were able to taste the food. Everything was freshly made and delicious 🤤. It’s a bit pricey, but so orth it! The lamb chops were amazing! The Chef came out and chatted with us. That’s always a plus in the service column!! Will definitely return!
This place has really transformed under the new management! Highly recommend - service was excellent and servers were friendly. The ambiance is perfect - we went with a bunch of girls and it was the perfect setting for an evening girls night - highly recommend. Food is also flavorful and not so greasy.
I went to this place last week food was amazing. I didn’t leave any reviews because I wanted to go again and try it again for the second time to make sure of the consistency and let me tell you the best Indian restaurant you will ever find don’t waste your money on cheap Indian food garbage this is the real deal Clean restaurant very clean Everything is fresh and very reasonable prices. You will not regret it. You must try it five star for everything.
Fine Indian dining has finally come to Long Island. This is not your run of the mill Indian restaurant with all the usual suspects. The dining room was at full capacity and quite loud and lively, with the co-owners making the rounds and chatting with the diners. Service was slow but this restaurant just opened so some hiccups are to be expected. We received some tiny spring roll appetizers with a comical amount of chutney for their size; I wish the actual appetizer I ordered (hara bhara kabab) had that much peach chutney compared to the few dabs on the plate. The Maharaja thali was absolutely fantastic, with the incredibly rich makhni daal, paneer tikka and bhindi finished with crispy onions being standouts. The menu had a number of great and unusual finds which I will have to come back and try.
This is an absolute gem of a place for authentic Indian cuisine. Loved the ambiance, the staff and the wide selection of food and drink menu. It’s a great addition to the Long Island community that’s in need of genuine Indian food that caters to those that love the hot and spicy flavors and those who love milder touches of eastern spices. We went there with a group of friends who were from India and US and everyone walked away super happy with what we ordered. Their dessert menu is a must-try!
I had such a great experience at Mahal Indian Restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious — full of authentic flavors and perfectly spiced without being overwhelming. The butter chicken was creamy and rich, the naan was fresh and fluffy, and the biryani had the perfect balance of seasoning. The staff was super friendly and attentive, making sure everything was just right. The restaurant itself has a warm, welcoming vibe that makes you want to sit and enjoy your meal without rushing. If you’re craving real Indian food with generous portions and great service, this is definitely the spot. I’ll be coming back soon to try more of the menu
Sure — here’s a short, polished review you can post on Google, Yelp, or OpenTable: --- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mahal Classic Indian – Roslyn Heights, NY Mahal is easily one of the best Indian restaurants on Long Island. The food is rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented — especially the Malai naan, palak chat, paneer tikka, dal tadka, dal makni, Lobster Masala, and Palak Paneer. The staff are warm and attentive, the ambiance elegant yet comfortable, and every detail feels thoughtful. Whether it’s a casual dinner or a special occasion, Mahal always delivers an exceptional dining experience. Highly recommended.
From start to finish, everything at Mahal was exceptional. We began the evening with cocktails, followed by Amritsari fish and beetroot kebabs—hands down the best Amritsari fish I’ve had so far. The mint chutney served alongside was incredibly fresh and perfectly complemented the dish. For the main course, we ordered the Mutton Rogan Josh, made with tender baby goat. Every piece was succulent, rich, and full of flavor. What truly elevated the experience was the personal touch—the restaurant owner himself came to our table to check on us. He was genuinely warm and welcoming, which made the evening even more special. Our hostess Amrita was also very delightful to talk to. If you’re in town, this place is an absolute must-visit. As a lovely bonus, we were served a complimentary dessert to celebrate my mom and dad’s anniversary, which was such a thoughtful gesture. Highly recommended!
We have ordered take-out from Mahal multiple times, but finally went to the restaurant for dinner. Love the decor and the staff are so friendly. The food was fabulous. We asked for the spice level to be medium, and next time we will get it a little spicier, but it was delicious. Everything was perfect from the drinks, appetizers, soups, entrees and dessert. I look forward to going there again.
The food here is truly the best in New York. The chef, who previously worked at another well-known restaurant, opened this place on his own—and brought all of his incredible talent with him. This is, without a doubt, the most consistent and flavorful Indian food I’ve ever had. I’ve tried searching for anything comparable and nothing comes close. The atmosphere is stunning and the service is top tier. I’ve tasted almost everything on the menu, and it’s all exceptional—you really can’t go wrong with any dish. The chef, Mr. Mishood, is an absolute genius in the kitchen!
My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary. The food and service at Mahal was impeccable!! The samosas we had as appetizers were some of the best we'd ever had. For Entrees, my husband has the lamb vindaloo, I had the chicken Korma and we shared a palak paneer. We had the rosemary naan and rice as sides. The food portions were generous, we were full when we finished and still have some to take home for lunch the next day. We will definitely come back again! Sorry that my photos are taken mid-meal!!
This is the first Indian Restaurant we’re happy with since we moved on LI. We’ve been in search for good Indian food for 3 years. Mahals food is full of flavor, the staff is friendly and attentive and the ambiance is inviting. Veg Samosa was good. Tandoori Chicken was one of my favorites. Tender, juicy and flavorful. Chicken tikka masala and chili garlic naan also amazing and flavorful. The goat biryani was ok, it had a sweet taste instead of savory but the goat was tender. For dessert the Kulfi and Gajahara (if I’m spelling it correctly) were also very good. Gajahara is very sweet so beware. It’s the orange desert in the pics. Even my lemonade was tasty. I will def be going back.
So glad we went and tried the place after the new ownership. I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews. However I guess the resturant business is not an easy one to run and people are really hard to please. I sell on Walmart.com and people expect Channel for a $4 top. Having said that, the food was fantastic, the service out of this world and the atmosphere great. Whoever took this over - good job guys. I attended an event upstairs as well and that was a hit with the food and I learnt not to blame the resturant for not so top shelf drinks when the hosts pays for a basic drinks menu. I guess it is difficult when a resturant tries to please hosts with a lower price but then guests expect top shelf liquor and dishes at those prices. The resturant cannot tell the guests this is what your host paid for. All in all, great place, I will keep coming back.
A few friends and I had dinner here last Friday and had such a great time. The bartender was super helpful and found us a drink we loved, and the whole staff was really friendly and welcoming. The food was incredible. Hands down my favorite dish was the palak chaat. We ordered a bunch of different things to share, and every meat dish was perfectly cooked and super juicy. Overall, an awesome experience.
In June of 2025, we hosted a party at Mahal for our father's 82nd Birthday. Originally, we rented the upstairs room to hold 50 people, but the number ultimately ballooned to 90 people. Since this was a surprise party, Mahal accommodated us by giving us plenty of time for us and our DJ to setup ahead of time. The restaurant has an elevator to provide accessibility for older adults and to move equipment. The staff provided great service and several guests madenpositive comments about the food. The lamb Rogan Josh was fantastic! As the host, the staff were very attentive to our needs, timed all the food perfectly, and were extremely warm with our guests. I want to thank the chef, the owner, and Mr. Singh, the event coordinator for their effort in making this party a success.
Incredible dinner experience at Mahal! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The food was absolutely delicious — full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and served hot and fresh. The tandoori chicken and grilled items were especially amazing. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. Service was top-notch — friendly, quick, and professional. The staff made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout. The atmosphere was elegant and peaceful — a great place to enjoy a relaxing evening meal. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic, high-quality food with great service!
An elegant yet cozy atmosphere, welcoming service that makes you feel like part of the Mahal family, and an extensive menu filled with both traditional and inventive dishes. In the humble Roslyn Heights, NY nestles a culinary experience that provides a unique combination of both exquisite and comforting flavors that will transport you to the heart of India. The inclusion of perfectly grilled and seasoned meat and seafood is unlike anything you will find elsewhere and the classic curries you know and love will give you a sense of nostalgia no matter what your cultural background may be. This lively yet tender establishment offers a slice of life experience as you get watch diners from all walks of life come in either for a quick drink at the bar, a grand celebratory reception, or simply just a lovely meal comprised of a few friends enjoying each other’s company. It is a reminder to appreciate the beauty of togetherness in the form of sharing delectable food and unforgettable memories. You don’t go to Mahal just to get dinner, you come to this place for magic.
Went on a Friday evening and was seated immediately. All the servers were so kind and attentive, consistently checking to see if we were okay. The owners are also so warm and welcoming!! All the food was so tasty, but my top favorites were the Hara Bhara Kabab (sooooooo good, has a good kick to it too) and the prawns (we got a mixed platter so i can’t remember the exact name, but they were cooked perfectly and the flavor was so delicious). The lamb chops were also cooked perfectly. Also, the name is escaping me, but there was a sort of coconut rice pudding dessert dish that i actually really loved!! if you are a mango sticky rice fan, you would love this! can’t wait to come back !!
Very nice place to spend time with family/friends and enjoy Desi food and chai. The BEST part was that every single thing that was ordered was delicious, clean, well cooked and served with care. I took some pictures to share my experience with you guys. Will highly recommend to try this place for sure.
The food was very well cooked. It is quite spicy however, so you must ask for a mild if that's what you prefer. Very large variety on the menu and the staff was very friendly. It is a very beautifully decorated interior as well
We celebrated New Year's Eve with a family dinner at Mahal, and it was a pleasant experience overall! The atmosphere was festive and welcoming, and the service was attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, but nothing particularly stood out as a memorable dish. Nevertheless, we had an enjoyable time, and Mahal's consistency in delivering good food and service made for a wonderful evening. A solid choice for a family dinner or special occasion. 4/5 stars!
Overall a good experience at Mahal in Roslyn Heights. The ambiance is nice, and the service was attentive, but I was a little surprised to see so many empty tables on a Saturday night.. it made the space feel a bit quiet for what could be a more lively weekend dinner spot. We tried a variety of dishes, many of which were very good. That said, I do think the menu could benefit from being more focused. There are just too many options, and I’d love to see them narrow it down to highlight more authentic, well-executed Indian dishes. Some of the fusion items sounded exciting but didn’t quite land. The truffle naan, for example, sounded great on paper but barely had any truffle flavor. The papaya salad was also underwhelming—it was more like raw veggie sticks with soy vinegar on the side, which felt a bit out of place. And the mixed seafood platter was another miss, especially with honey mustard on the side… honey mustard with Indian food (?) just didn’t make sense to me. That said, I do see potential here. The kitchen clearly has talent, and with a more curated, authentic menu, I think Mahal could really shine. I hope they keep refining because the space and concept have a lot of promise.
Inexplicably poor service from host/maitre de, waitress, was great trying to recover for him. 1 1/2 hours for appetizers. We were early, 2nd table there and half the dinning served appetizers and meal before we were served. Inexplicable
This place was ok. Not the best for me to be honest. Atmosphere and service were great but the food wasn’t that good. We ordered aloo tikki, tikka masala with side rice, chicken biryani and nan bread. Nan bread was swimming in butter it was so oily. Tikka masala was swimming in tomato sauce. I took one bite and couldn’t even take another bite. Biryani was better but also not the best. Overall I would say it was a nice place to try but not amazing food.
had Chicken Tikka. i was not impressed & wouldn’t recommend. ridiculously spicy even for me. small portion of chicken. mostly bowl of sauce.w no rice. overpriced. for portion.
Worst service. Walked in and were seated at one of the bar tables. Bartender was obviously extremely busy working by himself on a Saturday night with a party going on. I would have been happy to go somewhere else had they told us the wait time in advance and we could plan accordingly. The bartender had us walk over to the bar to place our orders. Then we waited about an hour for our food to arrive. The chicken tandoori was dry. Lamb was good. Pretty sure MSG was used by the amount of water I drank. And our glasses were not filled for quite sometime. Will probably not go back. Gave 2 star because the building was beautiful. Parking lot is horrible.
Joined a party of roughly 75 persons, the food quality was poor, so was service. The waiters were novice, no experience. It was a overall bad experience.
Went here for Mothers Day 2025. Abysmal experience. Expensive and boring. Table was tilted and had to change spots in between, as plates kept sliding off the tabletop. Arrived at 7:30pm. Ordered at 8pm. Appetizers came at 9pm. Main course at 10pm. Very minimal quantity food, not very flavorful. You would require 2 of anything to satiate the needs for one person, and I’m speaking VERY little quantity. I counted three pieces of lamb in my dish (Madhira Ghosht) , the rest was supplemented with 6 mushrooms.. The staff had no idea what they were doing, I feel they were understaffed that day in particular. Overall underwhelming experience where my mother had to offer me her food as there just wasn’t enough to go around. Stay away if you know what’s good for you and your wallet.. A restaurant that acts like they’re a Michelin Star restaurant with the quality of food of your local Indian curry shop.
Visited the restaurant along with my friends with a lot of enthusiasm after reading the reviews. Below is our experience - Appetizers: Ordered a mix of veg & non-veg appetizers. Veg ones were fine however the chicken appetizers were rather uncooked. A few of us chose not to eat them after the first bite which was a blessing in disguise. Some of us, who chose to eat, ended up suffering from food poisoning and ending up falling sick! Drinks: The mojitos were well made. Can’t say the same for the Jaljeera which tasted like masala and water stirred together. Main course: Ordered Kathal (Jackfruit) Biryani and Chicken Biryani with barely any kathal or chicken pieces to be found in either Biryanis. We all found the biryani’s quite bland. The Chicken Korma pieces were also chewy. Service: Seated immediately and the staff was quite attentive. To summarize, our experience was rather poor and none of us plan to ever go back. Those who fell sick will be reporting the food poisoning to NC Department Of Health.
From the wait time for the table(no real order or system-other groups that came after are taken before you) to wait time for the food(well over an hr), to lack of friendliness, to possible hair in the food, if I go into detail you just might vomit. I'll spare you. Good luck if you still try it out!
where to begin😞🤦🏻♂️ I waited for time to pass after my dining experience so i can properly give a non emotional review. Took my lady here for Valentine’s day because she wanted Indian Food and this place was “rated well!” To sum it all up, This place is in a nice town, in a nice building and has nice interior/ decor BUT the restaurant tries to jam pack people in like sardines. People are sat way too close to one another. They have an upstairs but the vibe Up there is sad. Feels like a time out room. No music, no vibe. just a room filled with people looking miserable! Why miserable? well, back to downstairs exp. Music was barely audible, but at least people were chattering downstairs. You are sat down and maybe 10 mins later, someone brings you water. 10 more mins later, waiter finally comes by and takes your order. Nice FRIENDLY behavior BUT This place is SLOW. 15 mins later, my mango lassi arrives (which left much to be desired) It is 30 mins later and no Food! 40 mins total waiting: NO FOOD everyone around the room is “miserable looking” at this pt , including us. They are all waiting for their drinks. All they have is water. Many waiters and servers walking around like robots. holding empty trays. But no food or drinks. Truly a weird scenario. We felt maybe we were being pranked? This wasn’t happening was it? We are the only ones in this place ON valentines day out of 50 people with actual drinks BUT again NO FOOD. IF NOT FOR V-Day, we would have walked out long ago BUT i knew it would be hard getting a reservation elsewhere this late. FOOD FINALLY ARRIVES 55 mins later. It was welcomed as i was quite hungry. BUT the portions, presentation and quality was not there. Ordered food that needs to be eaten with NAAN: Served us our food BUT “naan is not ready” So we sit for another 5 mins staring at food we cant eat without the naan. Naan arrives and we eat! we are laughing at the terrible experience but noticed we are the only two people eating. we ate for 20 mins and noticed NO one else had food. These folks looked at us with anger and misery. It was hard to enjoy the food even if we wanted to try. we quickly ate and got the hell out. NEVER AGAIN! Pls feel free to try this place BUT i recommend you lower your expectations and eat a snack before you come here. Heck, bring a snack. Def do NOT bring kids, they wont have the patience to wait 55 mins for their appetizers.
We went to a party here last night in the upstairs space. Surprised at the poor service. Waitress was great and was limited by the resources around here. The space itself as well as the bathrooms themselves were dirty. Most of the food was delicious, the bar tender was also helpful and able to make drinks with the limited bar he had. Not top shelf although I heard that the party organizers were supposed to have “top shelf”. I would not recommend having an event there because of the lack of preparation by the restaurant!
Ordered takeout from this place because it's close by and although the food was good, it is definitely way overpriced. It's nothing special. This Vindaloo cost almost 30 dollars and it doesn't even come with rice. Rice is an extra 5 dollars. How do you serve a curry without rice!? Every Indian place I have ever ordered from always comes with rice. Super dissapointed. Luckily we also ordered a naan to go with the curry because who the hell eats curry by itself. Just do the extra drive to queens and you get better food that is not overpriced.
I went 3 times over the last year. First time I got thali and it was amazing so I was excited about second time. Few months later (second time), I ordered thali exactly the same way and the taste just wasn’t there. I thought that was probably one time thing, but I read reviews the place hasn’t been same after ownership change. That made sense. However, most recent reviews encouraged me to try for third time (take out this time). That was a mistake. I ordered paneer lajawab, roti, and rice ($34), and I asked over the phone extra spicy and reiterated extra spicy. Paneer lajawab was watery, paneer wasn’t tender, no flavor and not spicy at all. The recent reviews had to be fake. Food: 0/5 Value:0/5 Staff: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Parking 5/5
We recently hosted my father’s 70th birthday at this restaurant, and overall, the experience was great. We had agreed on a fixed price of ₹55 per person beforehand, which I felt was very reasonable given the quality and variety of food offered. The food itself was excellent — I especially loved the naan and the vegetable subzis. There were plenty of veg options, and they were kind enough to accommodate a few non-veg items without any additional cost. That kind of flexibility really stood out. Another plus: they allowed us to bring our own liquor, which made things easier and more affordable. The staff was courteous, attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly. Service was solid from start to finish. If I had to point out a downside, it would be the parking situation. The restaurant is located on a narrow road where parking isn’t allowed, so you’ll likely have to park behind the fence. That said, there’s usually enough space there if you don’t mind the extra step. All in all, highly recommended — great food, great service, and a good vibe for hosting events. Would definitely go back. Edit: They calculated more people than what they told us. We registered this later and regret not going over the names of the people present. We overspent by around $400. Please be careful here!
Worst service I have ever experienced. Walked out of the restaurant. 20 minutes to get our drinks after reminding the waitress. After appetizers, the waitress informed us that one dish we ordered would take a a little more time to cook. After an hour had passed, we asked one waitress if our order was placed. She said yes. Then our original waitress came to the table and informed us that she forgot to place the order. We asked to speak to the manager immediately. The manager said there was a computer error and asked us for our order again. A lie by the manager to cover up their poor service after the waitress admitted her mistake. It's mind blowing that the manager had walked by our table several times in a HALF EMPTY restaurant and never once asked himself why our table of 4 wasn't served their dinner. We got seated at 7:15pm and left at 9:20pm. A complete waste of time.
So we had a take out order. If you can’t take the order in a timely fashion then don’t take it. My. Brother called at 730 and was told to pickup at 815. We didn’t receive the order till 9. Two little pieces of fish, one shrimp, and one scallop. Not much of a seafood platter. Very disappointed and terrible service. Do yourself a favor and don’t go here.
Worst experience in my life. We called restaurant to make reservation at 7pm given Father’s Day knowing it might be busy . We were told that no need of reservation and to just walk in. But made us wait for 40 min even though we explained that kids are hungry but they won’t care instead very sarcastic saying happy Father’s Day and to wait for some more time .. I would strongly discourage taking kids to this restaurant, not at all kids friendly. I would never go this restaurant again..
Mahal used to be our favorite Indian spot for dates nights and take out - we’d visit monthly. My suspicion is that it has changed hands because service and food has changed dramatically for the worst. At first I thought it was maybe just a bad day when we ordered several weeks ago, but we've ordered two times since then and it has been consistently the same for worse experience. Naan bread is stodgy flat crepes. Tikka masala tastes like tomato soup. Papadums taste stale and old. Masala Chai tastes like grocery store tea bags. Really sad about it and unfortunately won’t be back.
If you are starving, don’t go here. We went today (Sunday) at 1:40pm and there was no one in there except for another family waiting as well. No one came to seat us. There was no one working in the entire place that we can see. We even called while we were inside to get someone to come out to the restaurant but the phone just rang and rang. After 15 mins of waiting to see if anyone would come out, we left. I have never experienced something like this where the restaurant is open but there is no one working. Truly disappointed
We came in for Mother’s Day dinner with 18 family members only to be turned away. My sister made the reservation. Also called the restaurant 1 week prior to confirm. Which they did. When we came in, they said that they don’t have any tables. Food is good. But service matters. They have lost my families business. I will wait for more Indian restaurants to open up in Long Island and go there or go into the city. Anyone can take a reservation, but holding a reservation is the most important part. —-Seinfeld.
Oh this place service is one of the worst I e ever experienced. 730 Reservation. We got seated at 830pm. The food took over an hour….i had to ask “is the chef ok?” The food came out 5 minutes after that comment and it wasn’t that hot. Warm at best, the food was decent. Asked for the bill that took really long as well and they weren’t that busy by that time. Came in 730pm left at 1030pm. What a waste of time. Never going back, even if they paid me and gave me free food. The place sucks on every level.
THE FOOD WAS REALLY BLAND, the price was high compared to the quality and quantity of the food. The service was okay, the naan was burned, the tandoori chicken was bad. The tikki masala tastes worst. This places food tastes like how food tastes like when one is sick. Never again will I come back.
This place used to have the best Indian food in the area. But either they sold the restaurant, or they have changed chefs. The food is not good at all anymore. I’ve ordered the same food from them for the last couple years, and it was ALWAYS consistent. But now the last 2 orders we didn’t even finish the meal, and I never throw food away. It’s such a shame that they ruined something that was so good. Even the staff has changed! The naan tastes like store bought reheated naan, the tikka masala tastes like chicken in tomato soup… the samosas are terrible, even the mango chutney is a flop. Another disappointing end to what was once my go to stop for Indian food on my way home from work.
TRASH SERVICE. TRASH FOOD. We came here and it took forever just to get seated, and even longer to receive menus. Nobody checked on us, nobody cared, and the service was completely disorganized from the start. When we finally got our food, we hoped it would redeem the experience — it didn’t. The food was absolute garbage. The way they serve you here is unbelievable. I’ve had 100x better service and food at tiny hole-in-the-wall spots in Queens. I honestly cannot believe people pay these kinds of prices for such terrible service and mediocre food. Absolutely absurd.
