Opinions de Ramen 101 Sacramento
Pleasantly surprised. Noodles were decent, broth excellent, flavor oil used as well as tare. Toppings legit including wood ear, chashu that was seared, marinated soft boiled egg. Really good. Average to high price. Bad part was shared restaurant with Thai orchid, so wait time was a long time. Ramen shops in Japan are like fast food speeds. Also extras, like extra noodles was 4.50. Thought that was a bit excessive.
There is actually 2 menus to choose from. One is Ramen 101 and the other is the Orchid. We had food from both menus and all of it was great. We made a reservation for 13 people and they had no problem accommodation us.
So good! My boyfriend and I got the tonkotsu ramen with extra egg, and it was so phenomenal! Best ramen we’ve had in a while. The broth is so delicious, and it’s cooked to perfection. We’ve been back several times! Definitely recommend.
Good food good environment but had crazy diarrhea after, maybe it was an off day but overall good.
I'm pescaterian so I was very leary of what to expect but that have a fish bowl to die for. and they're open to 1:00 on Friday and Saturday. great late night food when all else is closed....
This ramen shop pleasantly surprised me! Not only are the portions large, but the ramen tastes good and comes out of the kitchen quickly. I really recommend this place if you want some casual dining that's budget friendly and is still delicious.
YUM!!! First time here, excellent vibes & food. Had the Seafood Ramen, WOW!!! Spicy. Great service, prompt, fresh. Parking can be an issue. Sunday night was great, very quiet, easy to park close, free meters. Amazing first ramen experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! 🍜🍤🦐
Got black garlic ramen, karage chicken, and lumpia delivered by DD… they were still crispy! And look at all these cute, garlicky roasted black garlic cloves! (I got Extra egg and pork for the ramen too)

I only had the Tonkotsu ramen, but it was so good! I'm not a fan of the texture of the mushrooms, but everything else was just right. The broth was perfection.

The food was excellent. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is that I ask them to not include mushrooms and they said that would not be a problem. After the food was brought out I ask them to check to make sure there were no mushrooms in they did check and said there were not any. But, when I got home there were mushroom soup. I was able to pull them out no problem but it was kind of a hassle I was trying to avoid. Otherwise, the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I really enjoyed the garlic pepper Roman.
Good late night eats but be warned that each item is $2-3 more expensive on Doordash. Calling in recommended
The flavor was really good but the noodle portions for to go order was very small which was dissapointing. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars
Short version: Great food, poor service. Long version: First of all I extremely dislike having to order food before sitting down. It forces you to have to decide right there and then and you feel rushed especially if there's people behind you. Also, tipping fairly has been ingrained in me and this way of ordering forces you to either tip based on service you haven't received or wait until the end and if I received good service, hopefully I have the cash. I opted for the latter and I'm glad I did because the service was poor. I think this whole idea is supposed to save money so they don't have to hire people to wait on you but it ends up being a terrible experience. The woman at the front wasn't that helpful and it's really hard to ask for anything during the meal because no one is around. As for the food, we ordered the mild(least amount of spice) Tonkatsu and it wasn't spicy at all so next time I'd probably get a step up, and the teriyaki chicken bowl. Both were awesome. Especially the ramen was exceptional. We couldn't get enough. I would definitely go back but I would get it to go or go somewhere else if I was looking to eat there. I'll also add that the restaurant itself looks really nice so kudos for that.
Good food and decent service, but it can be slow. Consistency is off like 1/5 of the time. Also, the small to-go containers are annoying.
Wonderful place for all things Ramen!! We came here Halloween day for a quick lunch and really enjoyed this new restaurant! It was so fun sitting outside and watching everyone walk by in their costumes! Also, you can connect to the free wifi from the park across the steeet, so cool. The Ramen here tasted fresh and the portions were huge, we both had to ask for to-go bowls. The service was good, the options were plentiful. We ordered the vegetable tempura and it was really good and more than we could finish,, then I had the vegetarian Ramen, but after trying my astonishingly creative fiances pork Ramen I wished I had ordered that. Both were good though and we definitely had plenty of leftovers for the next day! We will definitely be returning!
A nice new spot for Ramen! Love how you can order Thai and get Ramen as Thai Orchid is co-located. Price is fair. Good but not my favorite Ramen in town. Portions are good. Flavor was a little bland IMHO. Service was good, fast and friendly. Would eat here again (probably would not get chicken Karage again though - mine was cold and tough). Nice place to eat and people watch outside.
Ordered the seafood ramen here and it was delicous. I loved the egg, mushrooms, and other fixins. The shrimp was decent, tasted great, however slightly rubbery. The ramen noodles were also well made. I enjoyed this quite well. I also order some spam sushi, which was aa to be expected. All in all i has a good experience with this restaurant.
The restaurant is aptly named. It is indeed the 101 of Ramen, beginner’s level. Broth: 3/5 too salty, spices didn’t mesh well. Noodle: 4/5 good firmness but lacking in source. Toppings: 4/5 eggs can be improved. Chasu was good. Spam nigiri: tasty spam, too much rice - 20% less would be a good ratio, too much sauce, overwhelmed all other flavors, go lighter. Restaurant is still new so hope they can improve.
Good food and fair price. Friendly staff and nice environment. The only improvement I would suggest is to make sure the ramen comes out piping hot, especially now that it's cold.

Ok food. Ok staff, but not overly friendly. Health hazard with lamps above tables completely covered in layers of dust. Gross!! I'd rather go elsewhere and not worry about allergens and dust falling into my food.
only menu on screen offered while there were paper menu available in the dinning room. good seafood ramen on large bowl. then after meal was served , never asked if an empty glass of water was to be refilled or if the empty dish was to be taken away.
If I was drunk and in need of ramen I would come here. Broth was good and hit all the necessary notes of being ramen. However the pork was over cooked/bland. Plus the disposable silverware and big TV playing infomercials the whole time were big turn offs for me. I’d try somewhere new over coming here again.
The food is good, but some pieces in the ramen are cold while the rest are hot. It's like they just pick up things from the fridge and put it in the ramen then serve it right away without warming them up. Service is bad. No one checks on you and basically you have to chase the staff to get a refill or anything. It's like they know they already got your money since you pay first before you eat so nothing matters anymore. It's not just my table either, there was a table next to me that the staff never checked on either, but the moment they got up and left they rushed to clean the table up. The staff basically watch and chitchat from a distance next to the bar and only come to your table after you leave (saw them do the same thing when I left).
IT USED TO BE. It was once good but now it is not worth it. Ramen broth is SUPER bland (and watery). It used to have more flavor. Cashu pork pieces used to be bigger but now they are way too small. They’re not even complete pieces. Black garlic oil ramen doesn’t have a lot of actual black garlic oil (not like it used to). Spicy level is not spicy at all. It used to be. More often than not the kitchen cooks always get something wrong with the order. But I think the workers are very nice. Perhaps not attentive as they should but nice nevertheless. I don’t know what happened but over the last 1-2 yrs the quality of the ramen has plummeted. It used to be my favorite go to ramen spot. Now I go just to get chashu rice bowl…even though they are now putting less meat in it. Ramen 101 Midtown: Please add more flavor to your broth, go back to larger chashu portions and add more garlic oil to your black garlic oil ramen. Oh and actually make the ramen spicy when it’s ordered spicy. Stop cutting back on portions sizes and quality of your ramen while increasing prices. Go back to the way it used to be please!

Quite often I called and request just simple chili oil or teriyaki sauce on the side even on DoorDash I put it in the instructions and to ask for chopsticks and The staff Misses the instructions about 70% of the time. I tried to request DoorDash’s verify before leaving, but they also are not the best at customer service, which is why I call.

Not much chicken in the grilled chicken ramen bowl and the container of chicken broth was only half full.
I'm giving a two-star for their service atmosphere in the restaurant music was too loud the waitress oh my , granted the fact that they can't speak English very well but it sound like she was speaking in a foreign language I asked her to slow down with her talking and she said thank you very much so that let me know that she didn't know very much English we ordered the Ramen special with came with two pieces of sashimi which the waitress never informed her that she put all pieces of Sashimi on one plate and if she did we couldn't understand her so we thought it was my nephew's play and he ate it all except two pieces was excellent I give you the food four stars for the food the service and Ambience was terrible. It's sad to see when there's good food at a restaurant and they have bad service there's nothing worse
The service here SUCKS the service feels like you’re a burden to them… 2 young ladies and omg no smile, no greet, very bland, they look miserable, straight face no feelings geez 🙄 no courtesy whatsoever I had to flag them down for a refill… I paid with card and when I declined the tip because I was going to give cash instead, you can see how much that bothered her… she assumed no tip smh….first and last time here!!!
Unfortunately, I have to edit my review. The last few times I've been here haven't been good. very small amount of noodles, and they were out of pork. They added chicken instead which made the broth taste off. They also have you pay and tip prior, so there's no need for them to refill drinks or check in, etc. I dont think I'll be back. OLD REVIEW: This place nails what I think makes great ramen. The tonkotsu broth is excellent, salty, deep, and rich. I chose the spicy variant. The soft boiled egg was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The chashu pork is out of this world and honestly the best part of the ramen. I do have some critiques The noodles were a touch overcooked and there were way too many bamboo shoots (40+ in my bowl). But overall it was a great experience. Bonus: my wife and I love the outdoor patio, it's safe and comfy although the tables are a little close imo.
This the main reason I don’t tip before my service bruh. Nobody refilled our water, been waiting for 20+ minutes for a server cuz I wanna take my ramen to go. God forbid a 🥷🏾 get a to go container 😭😭🙏🏽🥀 (This place is buss tho I’m just thirsty fr)
This place is mid… Nothing great about it. I typically only leave reviews when I have a great experience and would actually go back. This was not worth it.. food was not good for how much it was. Veggie tempura was greasy and heavily breaded. The ramen wasn’t spicy and it wasn’t served hot enough. Waiters didn’t come outside to ask if we needed refills on our fountain drinks or anything else. You have to pay before you get your food and they ask for a tip up front lol. I’d rather pay after I eat and tip based on quality & service. Lastly… we ordered pad Thai from the sister/neighboring restaurant and the noodles were so rubbery you couldn’t chew or bite them. idk what’s going on here…
Sorry, this is not the best tasting ramen. Ok it’s not “good” tasting ramen. There is a lot in the bowl don’t get me wrong, the egg was over cooked. It’s cloudy and 49° outside, Christmas season and after walking around waiting for traffic to die down, one thinks “let’s get good Ramen” this is not the place, it’s bland. Staff are efficient, polite, the ramen was hot (for cold weather) but not ok enough for me to come back.
My Boyfriend ordered a to go food and left the restaurant to pick me up. When we came back to pick up the food in the restaurant instead of them asking if we ordered(because me and my boyfriend sit down on the chair) they just stared at us looking as if we are homeless or what. One guy and a girl that looks like asian, I am asian too. They stared at us twice! and with the judging look, mind you we don’t look like we are homeless! I worked as a front desk officer and I never look anyone even if they look sus with judging eyes! It’s so disappointing, why do you need to look at your customers like that. You can simply ask us in the first place if we ordered already right? not looked at us with so much hate or what it’s so annoying. (ps. the veggie tempura is not that good, the batter is too thick)
Something happened to this restaurant. It was one of our favorites, but the ramen presentation, quality, and recipe seem to have deteriorated. The egg was cooked thoroughly (like overboiled), quantity of pork chachu was minuscule, and the garnishes were minimal and haphazardly arranged. WTH, Ramen 101?
First time getting ramen. I purchased the tonkatsu and asked for spicy but it wasn't spicy at all. Actually, there was no spice to it. There was barely any flavor. I personally wouldn't return. Staff was really friendly and greeted me as I walked in. Service was great.

Their food quality has significantly declined since I first started ordering here over a year ago. Will never return.
Customer service is incredibly awful. I have absolutely no intention of coming back to this place. Wow.
The service was amazing no complaints there, as well as the the place itself. However, the food was terrible. I really tried pushing myself to have some more of that Ramen but the truth is. It tasted so watered down, like they made the ramen and then when they were about to run out so they threw a bucket of water and let it cook. I came out gagging because I could not believe I ate that soup. One of the worst experiences I've had with food >:(
Great food, but bad service. Employees were unprofessional and didn't provide any service to us during our time there. Employees were eating in front of us with their bare hands while working, and from where we were seated, we could see people eating INSIDE the kitchen area. Because you pay BEFORE you get your food, they don't care about your experience there.
So I came in said me and my son were going to be dining in and she said I had to order first. I don’t mind that but then the screen asks for a tip. It’s super annoying . I always tip especially when dining with a kid ( if you know you know ) but how much you tip should be based of the service you receive. She told us we can sit anywhere on the right side. . Everyone else dining is on the left. My son got a kids Ramen which came out too hot to eat ( 100% understandable, it’s ramen!) I waited for someone to come by so I can ask for ice but no one ever came. Our seats are facing the other side so I see the servers introducing themselves and checking on the other patrons so it was like we were forgotten about. My poor kid was starving at this point so I literally had to put my hand in my cup or water to get the ice out. When my food is gone they finally come and ask if we are still doing okay. . I suppose I could’ve waved someone down but idk it was just frustrating seeing the other side get waited on and us forgotten especially since we needed something . Food was good but after spending $33 (tip included) for a beef rice bowl and a kids ramen I’m still hungry they 🤷🏻♀️
Terrible experience. It opened at 11am and it took nearly half an hour to bring our ramen out. Ramen should be quick and for a restaurant that is named after that it should be good. It was not worth waiting for or even paying for, for that matter. The broth was bland, the noodles were starchy and gross. The egg was hard boiled instead of soft boiled. We didn’t even finish our ramen, we just left it and paid to eat at another restaurant since we were still hungry. When we complained about how long it took the bartender and waitress offered no apology, just that they had just opened. That’s not a good reason, it’s unprofessional to not be ready and have poor customer service, say nothing of flavorless food. Awful experience and it wasn’t so cheap that any of those things could be overlooked.
went in and ordered a chicken ramen add shrimp and took a bite of a meat I’ve never tasted before. could have been pork from the looks of it’s texture (which this place is heavy on along with I’ve never bitten into my anything pork related my entire life). Chicken and shrimp were both there but but chef may have made a mistake and a piece of fried pork may have slipped in. No problem, accidents happen. However the reason I’m giving it a 1 star is directly due to the manager and his incompetence. Argued saying it wasn’t pork and I’m mistaken. I’m very aware how chicken tastes and this just wasn’t it. Do better.

Worst experience ever! Walked in an ordered while grilled squid that the cashier stated was available only to be cancelled due in availability when we have finished ordering, paying, & siting waiting for our order of food to come out. Then when all things were finally sorted with mathematically which was another episode in itself, the 3rd and final incident incident transpired when I was trying to enjoy my rice bowl & scooped a fork full of rice and cabbage to find a HAIR! Come and eat at your own risk!
Came here one night since every other ramen place was closed and I definitely should’ve looked at the reviews before coming here. My girlfriend ordered a pad Thai and found GLASS in food that she bit into. Absolutely will not be coming back to this location.
I hate leaving negative reviews but this is just to hopefully dissuade anyone from eating on the ramen side of the restaurant. The Thai side is decent. You stand to order and the tip prompt STARTS at 20% and goes up to 30. I’m literally standing at the counter like it’s a fast food place, what service has been rendered at this point to earn 20-30%? The ramen didn’t taste like anything. Mushrooms didn’t taste like anything. Hard boiled eggs were both overcooked AND cold. How do you even achieve this? 2 prices of meat for in the tonkatsu ramen, and fatty ligament filled meat in the chicken ramen. I’d never go back here. Impressively bad.
